[Q] How do i downgrade hboot 1.58 to a lower version - HTC EVO 3D

Phone Status:
Htc dev Unlocked
S-OFF
HBOOT-1.58.0000
Radio-1.09.00.0706

By downloading a lower hboot version and renaming it to PG86IMG in all caps, placing it on the root of your sdcard. Boot into bootloader and letting your phone detect the file and update. Just remember though lower hboots don't play nice with the new ics kernel so be sure you have a copy of 1.58 in case.

You should be able to flash any custom ROM that is sense ICS. If you want AOSP, CM, or GB ROMs, you'll need to downgrade.

Custom roms don't come with hboots in them. Do your research before you ask noob questions like that. Roms with the new ics kernel are compatible with only 1.58. For instance you flash cm9 which is a aosp Rom with your hboot 1.58 your gonna end up in a boot loop. This question has already been answered. Search the forums first because you will more than likely find the answer. That way you won't end up flooding this forum with nonsense threads. No offense.

This guy "jsparta". What's w the attitude dude. If u gonna answer a question answer it w respect or don't answer at all. Seriously. U doggin on newbs like that??? What ? U a dev? Got a rom ??

Once you find one, rename it to PG86IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sd card. Boot into bootloader and update to that hboot. You should then be able to flash the ROM you want.
EDIT: Got my hboots mixed up. :banghead:

Sorry bro. I mixed up my hboot numbers again. Chalk it up to tired brain from having a six month old. Here are the hboots for CDMA. I recommend 1.4 since that's what I use.

Depends on what you're looking for. In my opinion:
Tweaked stock look: Homebrew
Sense majorly themed: ZR3dXL
Sense with AOSP theming: Common Sense AOSP
Senseless: D3rp's Bareback ROM or Desensification
There's also SOS which uses an installer that let's you select how Senseless you want the ROM.

[Q] ICS Kernel

I recently rooted my EVO 3D running hboot 1.4.00 s-off and I am planning on flashing an ICS rom. Do I need to update the kernel to an ICS kernel before flashing an ICS ROM?
Well the ICS Roms already have ICS kernels built into them so you should be good to go unless you want a custom kernel.

Since you are on Hboot 1.4, the kernel will flash when you flash the ROM. You do not need to flash the kernel separately unless you choose a custom one (I'm digging dodova's stock kernel right now- great performance and battery life and very stable).

Wanted to clarify this post. Having Hboot 1.4 doesn't allow you to flash kernals through recovery, being S-OFF does. If you were on 1.4 and had S-On, you wouldn't be able to flash kernals through recovery with a ROM.
Also, these should really be posted in the Q/A sub forum. Just a note for next time OP.
Thanks
Appreciate the quick response from both of you and the recommendation. I'll check it out. Thank you.

If I'm S-ON can I downgrade my firmware?

I'm currently rooted and I'm running team viper 1.03. However, I updated previously to the leaked ICS 5-7 firmware which came with some pretty crappy radios for me. I use to get much higher 4g speeds, and I'd like to return to the gingerbread ones. I saw this thread and I was wondering if it was safe to flash these firmwares here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
There's no mention about s-on anywhere so I'm not sure.
Sorry, you need to be s-off to flash these

S-OFF was very easy to do and really is worth the few minutes that it takes. Just make sure you download the correct version for your firmware.

Yea from all the threads, it seems like you need the new hboot or the new roms don't work. I would just wait a few days, I'm sure someone will figure out how to get it to work without the new hboot
Specifically, from what MikeyXDA says, the new kernel looks for the 1.58 hboot and refuses to boot otherwise. So, you can use a ROM based on the ota if it contains the VM leak kernel, not the new kernel.

If you are s-off, you can switch hboot anytime you want. What I'm unclear on is if taking the new firmware keeps older ICS and GB ROMs from booting. I've yet to see a definitive answer.

From the OP of the "custom kernel", I was under the impression that it also needs the newest hboot. So I assume you mean an older version?

I upgraded my firmware and I can't run older roms without bootlooping. Only thing I can run that gives me no problems is anything built off the new base.

And I've heard the opposite from others. They said they upgraded and everything on GB and ICS leak ROMs work fine. I'm holding off until ramjet does his testing.

Any Rom can be used on 1.4 as long as it doesn't include the newest kernel. The bootloops are probably caused by being s-on.

Then you´re probably s-on.
Did you unlock your bootloader? Do you have root access?
When booting into the bootloader it will say s-on or s-off.
I s-offed my phone yesterday with the same hboot, using the wiretrick here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466

You can also try to flash the kernel via fastboot.
extract the boot.img from the rom, put it in your fastboot folder and type in cmd 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'

Used it myself, simply boot up into hboot with that file on your sd card, and accept.
Then it'll restart bootloader and voila, hboot 1.49.0007
The hboot wil also say 'locked' on top.

Damn somebody got hamed on by coal686. By the way homie, hamed is a term in Detroit used to describe somebody that got told off. But on a serious note, this site doesn't need pompous jerks trying to act like they are better by trying to sound intellectually brighter than somebody and having a smart mouth. This site is full of devs and users collaborating together to help one another. So there's no need to be a ****. I'm not name calling I'm just merely stating facts

It's all good. I edited mine to to be more straight to the point. Some people do need to be reminded what this site is all about and I don't think you were in the wrong. Although sometimes we all make mistakes its recognizing them and being the better man sometimes. Btw I liked your comeback as well. Not too harsh and got the point across
Thank all of you guys for all the help! I appreciate it. I have another question. I flashed the 3d to metro pcs. If i flash another rom will it delete the flash? and i downloaded apn backup but it says that ics doesnt let it back up or restore anything...
No it shouldn't. And are you flashing a aosp or sense Rom? Either one ics won't allow third party apps to write to the apn xml file. But here are a couple solutions. On sense you can download msl reader and get your msl code. Once you get that code go into your dialer dial ##3242# and punch in your code under edit. Once you do that click on advanced, go to the bottom of page where your mms settings are located. If you know the setrings, edit the settings to your liking. However if its aosp, you will need to make a copy of your apn file. It's located in system/etc folder if you didn't know. Place it in your pc. Use notepad to edit the settings and save it. Copy it back onto your sdcard. Then copy it back into the folder and set the default permissions for the file and reboot. If that don't work try go sms as an alternative until devs fix the issue.
