Bad battery life/major keyboard lag on CM9! - HTC Rezound

Just like the title says. I've been getting bad battery life and my keyboard (both the ics one and smart key) lags major. I have gone to the development menu and checked the option for force 2D bla bla

For the bad battery, make sure you're on the latest, and trying to turning off your wifi...mine has been getting a pretty bad wakelock on wifi. For the keyboard lag, go into developer options and force gpu rendering.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2

What keyboard are you using? Stock or a third party keyboard? Try removing the 2d gpu render and see if you get keyboard lag. Worked in my case with Swift keyboard. I think the gpu rendering vary per user, as I've got opposite results after enabling it in dev settings. My best advice would be follow shrikes advice, flash the newest RUU and play with the gpu rendering setting and see what works for you.

I am not on the latest. I will try flashing that and see if I get some improvement. I have a question though...can I just flash the firmware via bootloader and be ok?
Do I have to go through the process of flashing a new recovery/rom?

Even though I am not 100%, from years of being on here, I would say yes for rom. I think there are moded firmwares out there where you do not need to change recovery or it will for you. The way I think about it, firmware is a heart or brain and if you don't start over the connectors of the rom will be looking for the old firmware. (This could be a terrible analogy, just trying to help).

Definitely make sure that you're on the latest firmwares. But when you say bad battery life what kinda are you getting? CM9 keyboard lag is pretty easy to troubleshoot but bad battery life could be a bunch of different things.

I think he meant the latest CM9 build, the one that came out on 9/12 had wakelock issues with Bluetooth where the phone wouldn't go into deep sleep. The fix for that is in the 9/18 release Gray put up. I let my phone sit overnight unplugged on the 9/12 release and my battery went from 100% to dead in under 6 hours, not seeing that issue anymore on the latest release.
As for firmware, I'd be at least on ICS firmware. If you're s-off you can just grab the latest firmware out of the firmware thread in the dev section, otherwise you need to flash the whole RUU via the bootloader.

[Q] Running Hot - Any suggestions?

My first time posting here, so please be gentle.
I've had my SGS2 for around 6 months now, its an unlocked ASIA (as I live in BKK). I noticed on the original stock firmware that the phone was running hot, as in the back panel around the camera would heat up to the point I could feel it in my pocket. This would normally happen if I was using a game like angry birds, or a psx emulator. But sometimes it would happen in the browser under normal conditions. I just thought this may be a issue with dual core phones, so I took this as a 'feature' and accepted it.
But now lots of people I work with have this phone, and it came up in conversation about heat. Everyone stated they do not have this issue, that the phone remains cool all the time.
I have moved between many different ROMs, and have finally stuck with Westcrips ICS ROM. Then a strange thing happened, the heat issue goes away with version 8.4. Phone is cool all the time, even playing my PSX emulator in software mode. Battery also increased from 12 hours to 16-18 hours.
But now I just moved up to 9.3, and its back again, the front screen is very hot to touch when using things like the MX video player, or surfin the web. And if I launch a game ... well, forget about it. The battery drain is immense to, be lucky if I pull an hour of use like that.
Anyone else suffer from this? Hardware fault? I can't take it back because my flash counter is probably in the 20's now, and I can't find a reset JIG in Bangkok.
Cheers.
FYI, I always do a clean wipe, dalvik / cache / permissions.
same issued here, phone bought from Thailand also. Phone getting hot when browser, downloading and playing some games( not all). And its really hot
Changing Rom and kernel sometimes solved it for awhile but eventually will come back.
Looking for solution also
Thanks
P/s: right now im using LA4 stock Rom and CF root LA4 kernel and still get hot

Thanks for getting back to me.
The one I know that fixes it is Resurrection 8.4. Its a dam good rom, and given me the best battery life (once I got 20 hours with normal use). But there is an issue with touch screen sensitivity that makes it annoying.
Maybe its something to do with the Kernel on the Asian models?
If I find a fix I'll pm you.
Hmmm mine only gets uncomfortably hot when playing some 3d games. Didn't experience the same level of heat when just browsing though... It just gets a little warm but far from gaming temps.
What i did was undervolt and underclock when playing. It did reduce the heat and extend the battery though i admit it's not the best solution / workaround.

Well it looks like the ICS kernel is not supported right now under Tegrak. It is bleeding edge.
I tried setCPU to under clock but ended up with a lot of slow down and some full system freezes.
Guess its back to 8.4 until I find a more definitive answer.

Since you're using Westcrip's Resurrection Remix, you can get rid of the triangle by using Chainfire's TriangleAway app - I'm using Resurrection too and it got rid of the flash counter and the triangle.
TriangleAway should work on all ICS roms though.
Strange, installed triangle away yesterday evening. Work like a charm, so I guess if I need to return I can now.

[Q] Is it worth flashing the new ics leak?

Is it worth the hassle of flashing the new ics leak and roms? ive been running clean rom 1.7 ics and its been fine does the new leak and roms based off of it have a performace boost worthy of the hassle of relocking and unlocking again?
I was very hesitant at first weather or not to do it. Now that I've done it and am running cleanrom 4.0 its performance is better and i, myself, am getting way better battery life. Go ahead and do it! Look for Scotts tut on how to do it. Follow it and its really easy.
Its def worth it and its rather easy if u just follow the directions.
Is there anyway to go back to GB after if you find it is not best for you?

It's got some nice things in it that I like, but I have to mention this -- my phone's running a lot hotter. And it doesn't seem like any of the usual tricks (airplane mode, CDMA, etc.) are taking any of the load off the battery. Power settings say the juice is all going to the display, but I seriously doubt that -- it's staying plenty hot even when I keep the screen off.
Also, I've never liked the fact that this phone discharges while on even when connected to a power source. They really need to keep consumption inside USB's ability to charge. If you leave it on all day even while plugged in to power you'll have a low batt after a few hours. That's ridiculous.
Did you change your CPU governor to conservative? That is one of the things on my check list to do when flashing. It really keeps it alot cooler.
Also know that if you flash back to a gb Rom you probably won't have access to external memory

[Kernel Test] - Testing for those with excessive battery drain / heat on ICS 4.0.3

This is a test thread for those experiencing excessive battery drain on the latest RUU leak 3.11.605.22.
This is only a test! I dont know if this will fix anything! Pleast post your findings!
Background
Some people with the latest kernel from 3.11.605.22 leak are experiencing excessive battery drain accompanied with excessive heat. I and others believe this is kernel related and need some people to test the older kernels with the latest leak. This is meant only for those with these symptoms. If you are not having this problem then skip this thread!
Instructions
Install the 3.0.13 Kernel and test battery and heat. Flash in recovery like any other mod / ROM. It will then reboot to boot loader and from there you press power to make phone scan the SD card and then allow it to update the boot.img
Notes
The 3.0.13 kernel had the blue flash issue. Do not report that bug. I know it exist and you know it exist. The purpose of this thread is to for drain and heat! The 3.0.13 kernel may not charge 3.8v batteries properly.I honestly cant remember so can you report the findings if you have a 3.8v battery?
You do not need to wipe anything when you flash these kernels.
I have also posted the original kernel from the latest leak so you can revert back.
Once again this is just a test for those experiencing excessive battery and heat problems with the latest RUU leak 3.11.605.22. This is not a fix or work around for any other issue.
Please test these kernel so we can figure out why some are having this issue!
Thanks to Con24 for the install script!
Thanks,
-Scott
Flashed. Will report back.
All good so far. Can't seem to reproduce the high temps. Tethering, charging and camera all at the same time, no heat issue. It's only been an hour. Will report back later. Thanks for your help.

So you had the heat issue before but with the kernel I posted it seems better?
I did test this as I was initially having heat problems with the 3.016 kernal. I was hesitant to post the results as I seem to have more difficulty than most with this particular device. My first install after ruu I had temps around 120 and battery drain. Wiping and reflashing brought it down to about 105 Max, and decent battery life . Since I was about to flash the clean pro I figured what the hell. Flashed the 3.013 kernal and ran it for a couple hours and my temp averaged 115 to 120 again. I then flashed back to the 3.016 kernal and whaddaya know, 115 to 120 again.
Wiped boot, and 5x wiped ...flashed cleanrom pro edition and it hasn't even hit 100 degrees yet.
It should be noted that I believe I have "one of those devices" that sometimes just doesn't work right for whatever reason.

Yes, phone would get very hot while tethering and having it plugged in. Thus far, no more heat issue.
I have a major heat/battery drain problem running the latest leaked RUU. My phone will go from 100% charge down to 50 in less than an hour! It also gets extremely overheated to the point that i end up popping the back cover and battery to let everything cool down. I mean my phone gets HOT. I was thinking I just happened to be one of the "lucky" few with a "bad" device but I will try flashing the kernel and report my findings back here . I'll keep my fingers crossed!!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I'm wondering if on some devices if the actual flashing of kernal may be going wrong somehow. If someone flashes this and still has a heat issue could you try simply reflashing the kernal.

Yea, not much change here, Seems cooler, but drains the same. I am gonna flash cleanrom 4.1 pro and 5xwipe and see if a clean install of everything is any better. Will post back with more later.
Have you guys reached out to IMO for kernel help? I read he was interested in making rezound kernels. The more help the better.
I've been trying to replicate the heating and battery drain problem by switching back and forth between the two kernels but have been unsuccessful. It's strange because I did the exact same thing. The only difference is that when I got it to heat up this morning I was on cleanrom regular, now on pro.

Reach out to who? No one has source code for ICS so I am not sure who woudl really be able to help with out that though.

ICS or Jellybean?

Hi guys.. ive been flashing all kinds of rom and kernel. In the end i find stock Ics with stock kernel gives me both the performance and battery life i need after removing useless start up and freezing unwanted apps.
Had been using the default touchwiz and suprising theres no lag or redraw or whatever issues. Only set back is i cant customize my stock rom.
Battery life wise i can get up to 6 hrs screen time or maybe more. Will post screenshot after i drain my battery.
On jellybean, batt drain is more noticeable regardless using stock or any other jb roms / kernels. Personally i dont like OCing or undervolting so pls dont mention abt those here.
I am wondering who else here share the same experience with both ICS and JB. Would u still stay on ics or jb?
Would love to hear opinions

You got 6 hours of screentime with data/wifi on with ICS?
Personally I've been getting better battery life with MIUI on Jellybean, but I've also been using Siyah since the first day I flashed my ROM so that might also have something to do with it. I've had experience with stock ICS and MIUI ICS as well, and the battery drain was essentially the same. I'm running a heavily customized JDUltimate though. If you don't want to undervolt or flash another ROM/kernel then JD is a great alternative. I was using stock GB on my S2 with nothing but Juice Defender and I got pretty decent battery stats, though I can't remember them right now.

Hi .. yes approx 6hrs screen time. With only 3g. But i setted my display to around 20% brightness as im indoor most of the time. I usually use the same setup to test among roms and phones as ive got 2x S3 to play with. One of it is my gfs phone. She plays lots of games so i also hear her feedback regarding the roms and kernels i flashed for her.
I find using auto brightness actually drains the battery more with continus use. I also make sure i got only essential tasks ans apps running in backgrd. Btw i have whatsapp in backgrd all the time.

Yeah I have my brightness at the lowest setting most of the time as well, as the only time that I'm going to be in bright daylight is when I'm walking around, and I'm not going to be looking at my phone while I'm crossing the street and whatnot I figured that all of those "auto" settings actually drain more battery because of their constant turning off and on and adjusting and etc...it seems like it would consume unnecessary CPU power.
How do you manage which apps run in the background?

System apps like mapservice, secphone, samsung pushservice etc that runs in the background are frozen with tit backup and startup removed by ES task manager.
Result : No useless bloat running in your phones background. Better batt life and performance. I can achieve 300mb ram after a fresh reboot. Stays aroumd 400 to 500 range of ram after a day. Will observe ram a day more as i just flashed stock 3days ago.

So far my experience is in ICS's favour.
Ok. JB is latest. FIne.
BUT TELL ME SOMETHING WE CAN DO IN JB AND NOT IN ICS?
I didnt see even a single sort of such think except some added settings in settings app.
Even looks are same.
We can easily mod the ICS rom to make it look better.
For looks and functions of JB, we can use launchers ofcourse!
And personally, in JB, my ram normal usage was 500+MB.
In ICS, with same apps, its 200-300 MB. How and Why? Both stock kernels.
Also, i am used to playing games while charging. In JB, the battery only declined, even while charging when i played game. But in ics, there is charging instead of discharging even when i play games.
Therefore, jb is mess for me! So unstable with lesser battery....

[Q] Please Help w/ 2 Deal Breaker Issues Charging Issue and Background Apps Closing

I have tried finding answers on my own but I haven't been able to find anything that has worked on the Meanbean forum or anywhere else. I'm obviously on the latest Meanbean Rom.
My issues:
1. When I am in my vehicle using Waze for navigation (the issue would likely happen no matter what I'm using for navigation but I haven't tested it) I either get a pop up alert that my phone is using more current then the charger can supply or I don't get the alert and my battery percent drops a couple percent every couple of minutes, eventually my phone goes dead on a long drive.
I have tried the following with no success: OEM Charger, multiple aftermarket 1 and 2 amp chargers that were hacked (so that phone allows AC Charging instead of the limited USB charging) and unhacked, changed governors/kernels to power conservative versions, removed any overclocking, kept phone cool and out of sun, and wiped/clean installed Meanbean.
2. When I go running and turn on my workout tracking application (Runkeeper) and then I try to turn on music, Runkeeper shuts off. This same issue happens no matter what application I use, if I'm listening to music and turn on the flashlight, the music application quites working in the background. I have also duplicated this while driving by running torque and then opening any navigation application, Torque quits, or whatever is not being focused/interacted with in the front of the screen is terminated (or crashes for all that I know). I have duplicated this with almost every application that I run and the same thing happens, the background application is terminated.
I have tried the following with no success: I have flashed the Meanbean Rom zip that allows users to create a white list of applications that shouldn't be terminated. I didn't input the entire application name but according to the instructions, using just "waze" or "runkeeper" should work the same. I have also tried changing governors/kernels, adjusting multitasking memory settings, wipe/fresh install of Meanbean, and I have also used the application Pimp My Rom to keep the specified application in memory using a tweak in the application.
If anyone has any suggestions for either of these issues I would greatly appreciate it. At this point I don't know what to do; I'm getting ready to drive cross country and the charging issue will be an absolute deal breaker and I also go running everyday and not being able to listen to music while tracking my run is also a deal breaker.
Have you tried an aosp rom? That should at least fix the closing apps, and maybe the charging issue too. If you look for one with a Fast Charge option, that would be something to try also...I know Carbon has it, not sure which others do

Have you tried it in another vehicle, charging that is, maybe the outlet in your car can't output enough juice and it isn't the charger at all. I know when I stay in hotels, a lot of the lamps with an outlet show that they can only output .5 amps. Just another suggestion to try. I run waze in my Jeep and it charges fine with a cheap BB charger with MeanBean.

I tried CM10 when it was first released for our phones but I left because it seemed to have a lot of bugs to work out. Is it stable now?

Yeah, I think so...pretty much every aosp rom for our phone is built from cm source (if not all) and I've been using several of them as daily drivers for a couple of months. Try using the komodo kernel also, as tl stated above the fast charge functionality is part of it, not the rom...plus it's just an all around badass kernel.

No, you'll need to do a full wipe for best results.

Again if you want to stay on sense there are a couple of kernels that can help with both issues. Mine and flar2s. They have adjusted lowmemorykiller settings and usb fastcharge.

I'm using yours right now but I'm still having the same problem for some reason. Is there something I'm not doing right when using your kernel on meanbean? Is there a trick to using the white listing built into meanbean when using your kernel?
I'm also wondering if the charging problem is related to the power output of my vehicles cig lighter since someone earlier suggested that could be an issue but I also have my doubts since my truck has 110 volt plug built into it and I have the same issue if I use my house charger...
Did you enable fast charge? If you use kernel tuner you can enable it in misc menu. Also with kernel tuner there is a menu oom adjust that and see if it helps there are many options and 2 of them being multi tasking.

Is that available in the free version or only in the paid?
Thanks again, I will play with all of that this weekend. If I can get these two issues sorted out my phone will be perfect for me..
