No more able to update via mobile's Software Update?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys
I have updated my device to the leaked Jelly Bean update of I9300XXDLI8.
But I noticed a change in "Software Update" in the mobile. A new disclaimer has popped after which a messaged popped up to me implying that "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.".
My question: is this permanent to my Samsung account? I mean, if I revert back to "Kies" version of the firmware or wait for the official version of Jelly Bean that is released by "Kies", am I still going to be able to update via mobile "Software Update" or PC "Samsung Kies"?
Thank you.

Phone repaired, did they root my phone?

I posted this question in another thread, though I never got a direct answer and didn't want to hijack the thread either.
A while back I had my phone repaired. I've never attempted to update my phone in all this time. I recently installed Kies and saw the following information:
PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
It says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
When I tried the "software update" via the phone, which then said a new firmware would have to be installed and if I'd like to download. I selected Yes and then the phone reboots. When it came back on it said that the update had failed and to try connect and do it through KIES. So I think there's an update available yet I can't do anything about it?
My phone details are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Does the information from the Kernal Version indicate that they rooted my phone when they repaired it? If so, will there be a way of changing it back?
Thanks.
Does hboot say s-off or s-on?

no they will not root your phone as you are using kies to get official updates.
use odin and flash either generic roms which you will have to root yourself.
custom roms usually are rooted by the developer.
Does the information from the Kernal Version indicate that they rooted my phone
NO all its says is [email protected] which is part of the signature and nothing to do with rooting a phone ..
If Kies says no update for your phone then its usually correct .Phone provider has not updated firmware .

I never used Kies until now and the phone wasn't updated before sending it back to be repaired. I don't really have the intention of rooting the phone myself. Was just wondering why I can't update the firmware.

Kies says there's no update, however I'm asked to use Kies after a failed attempt to use the software update function of the phone. It says that there's a new firmware version available. I downloaded it and it asks to reboot my phone. When it starts up again it says the update has failed and to use Kies. I don't understand why it would say there's a new firmware available and yet I can't update it?

Thanks for the replies.
If the phone isn't rooted by them, why won't the software update allow me to update the new firmware that it says is available? It fails and asks me to do it through Kies where it says that my version of the phone cannot be updated?

Dude... You keep asking the same question. Although I cannot say why your phone is telling you that you have an update available and it is failing and saying to use KIES, I can reiterate what JJE mentioned and that is that it sounds like your carrier has NOT released an actual update for your device.
I recommend that you call your cell phone carrier and ask them if and when an update WILL be available and start from there. If they say that there IS an upadte available then you can ask your question again but until you know for sure you are just going around in circles.
the csc you have does cuurently support updates has they have not been released for that region.
try changing the csc to a country that has updates.

Sorry about that. My mind does tend to run in circles.
My phone was bought from Dialaphone and it's unbranded.

When I try changing the csc all I get is the XEU sales code. There are no other options available. I reside in the UK, btw.

[Q] Jellybean in France

I'm sorry if this is obvious information, I've done searches online, what is the official status of JB for SFR in France? Is it out for this phone? Is there some site where I can check?

I have an "update" that keeps popping up on my new GS3 on SFR and I don't want to do anything unless it's JB. But I was told you could only really get the update through Kies and I really don't want to install that program.

Like you, I never use KIES. I think this update (JB on SFR) is available OverTheAir. Connect your phone on WiFi and check via Settings/About devices/Firmware update. Lot of improvements on JB. It is very smoth operating system compare to ICS. You can update via ODIN if it's not available OTA. (Official ROM doesn't increase the counter).
Another way although a little harder.... you could download the Rom of Sam's firmware and flash it via Odin. If you have a mac or linux computer you could use a virtual machine considering you have the hardware or you could use a friends PC
Hope this helps

Actually, since I wanted to get rid of bloatware, I was thinking of just ignoring this update and finding myself a JB ROM that is more Vanilla perhaps or at least stock GS3 or Nexus.

[Q] Kies doesn't recognise curent firmware version.

Hi to all.
I seem to have a problem with samsung kies. I have a GT-I9100 international with android 4.0.4 and i read that an update to jelly bean might be available. Connected my phone via usb and it connected with all the features working accept the showing of the firmware option and option to check for updates. Note that i have already updated the phone using kies once. Can anyone help me with my problem here.
Thanks

I think we've been thru this already, but well:
JB update is not rolling yet.
I think I get your problem, but I just don't get your question.
Tried update/reinstall kies?

I updated/reinstalled it but still doesn't work. In fact this happened to me when i was on android 2.3.6 but somehow it went off by itself.
I get many of those problems with kies.
Thanks for the reply

np.
Now, you gotta clean your device's drivers from your pc. All you need is a clean uninstall right from the root and all should be fine.
Re-Download Kies from the samsung's site and let it update, reboot your pc and plug your device.
Might also wanna check another usb's socket/cable.
Hi,
I check here for the official updates for Samsung, and when I check it here, it still says there no official update yet released for SII.
Samsung has released Jelly Bean update for SIII only.

Hereticnine.

Note that, This firmware is on test-mode and being tested by Samsung, its build number is I9100XXLSJ, but is seemingly stable and not far from the final version that Samsung will be rolling out soon

Most probably there isn't a 4.3 update for your country available yet.

I thought it was out in UK i'm not %100 sure though
From what Google says its been halted in the UK to iron out serious bugs
Sent from my GT-I9300
Why is everyone so excited abt 4.3 ota? Wait for a week after it is released. Search google. If there isnt any bugs. Then install it.
