Afternoon people. I have searched a lot for an answer to this and cant find a solution so any assistance is greatly appreciated.
I Have a sgs2 (i9100) and run the paranoid android rom, latest version. I now live in the usa and have a t mobile sim card, the information I have found says they now operate on the 1900 mhz frequency. My phone however wont connect to anything other than edge, how can I check which frequencies it is operating on? The modem is XXLQ6, does that have 1900mhz? Is there a different modem I can flash onto it?
Thanks for any suggestions!!

No.
dont bother about flashing another modem. Your phone will always be stucked on EDGE on Tmobile. AT&T 3G frequency is compatible with GT I9100
Alright, thanks mate. Incidentally I got to Vegas today and the reception shows a "H", guess they have upgraded the towers here. Still slow as buggery mind you.
Will look into an AT and T SIM card.

Probably yes. Because some iPhone owners on T-Mobile that were previously stucked on EDGE can now get 3G in some part of the country

Edit:
I popped my cell sim into the tablet. it connected at H+. I guess I answered my own question.
Thanks
I bought a Rogers tablet off a guy who said it was a 3G model. The box was opened but the tablet is brand new.
The Box says 4g on in. I've already put overcome on it. now I'm wondering is it a 3g or a 4g.
Is there anyway to tell by the physical case?
Also is there a thread on the different models and sub model numbers.
Thanks

AT&T markets HSPA+ as "4G." Rogers does the same thing. So it's officially a 3G Tab capable of 21MB down on a HSPA+ network. Rogers and AT&T call that 4G the rest of the world calls it 3G or 3G+. I'm using a phone SIM in my 3G UK Tab on AT&T and get 8MB down in fake-4G (the only real 4G is LTE) cities. The benefit of using a calling plan vs. data-only is you get unlimited messaging too. I don't know if Rogers works the same way.

good explanation and yes Rogers does work pretty much the same way.
The only differnce will come is with the roll out of LTE that is ongoing for Rogers. It is my understanding the 9500R just released by Rogers is capable of LTE but your sim card will have to be changed to accomodate both the increase in speed and (more importantly) the increase in billing charge from Rogers.
so is the latest overcome the best rom to use? or are there others that are better?

there are the stock roms just issued with KI2 base but I believe that is also the basis for Overcome -- install of which also provides root and a complimentary CWM file. The simpicity of this appealed to me!
So its the best starting point I would say at this juncture.
BUT the stock roms for the 10.1 are themselves quite robust, something those of us with the Galaxy S for example are unused to! So you can root and install cwm without overcome and use a stock rom -- best is always subjective and a personal judgement.
Some of the other Roms have good development but are for the wifi only version and look good but aren't meant for the Rogers Tab -- didn't stop me trying them and checking them out mind, but it all depends how much of a flashaholic you are! You need a deodexed rom if you want to install any themes at this point.
The sole custom kernel presently is the Pershoot one: allows you to OC to 1400 and does play nice with either the stock or the Overcome rom -- there is a thread and you can see the feedback yourself.

Greetings
Today I upgraded my ATT Galaxy S2 to the ICS rom that appeared recently with Odin3 1.85.
Everything went pretty smoothly until I realized whenever I tried to make a call nothing would happen, the confusing thing is my internet kept working on Edge (since I'm T-mo on an unlocked phone). I tried to check via de *#simlock# command if it was unlocked and indeed it seems to be.
Furthermore I tried to send a text message to myself and it seems to have gone through added to the fact that the internet is there, the only problem is the calls.
I checked the IMEI and it seems to be fine, I did a factory reset and nothing happened.
During my exploration of the phone I found that it said, as the title implies, Mobile Network State: Disconnected which freaked me out.
I also tried resetting the mobile networks to default but nothing is working I'm kind of desperate (I usually avoid posting as opposed as researching) and have been searching online for near 2 hours I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
SO many things wrong.

ATT Galaxy S2 is the SGH-I777. You are in the GT-I9100 forums. If you really do have an I777, and flashed an I9100 firmware to your I777, then this is likely the source of your problems. The I777 and I9100 have SIMILAR hardware to where a flash wouldn't kill your phone, but things wouldn't work right. Sounds like what you are describing.

You say you have an ATT Galaxy S2, but here you say you're on T-Mobile. Are you in the US? If you're on the US, how did you get an ATT Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile? ATT phones are usually SIM locked. Also, T-Mobile has their own Galaxy S2 model, which is the SGH-T989. Totally different hardware. If you DO have an ATT model, and are on T-Mobile, then you are probably getting abysmal mobile data speeds. The ATT model will only get Edge speeds on T-Mobile's network, and vice versa, the T-Mobile model will only get Edge speeds on ATT's network.
EDIT: Oh, I re-read that. I see you recognize you will only get Edge on T-Mobile's network when using this device. But that doesn't answer my question. If you have an ATT model (SGH-I777) did you SIM-unlock it?

Again, if you actually have an ATT model (SGH-I777) and you flashed an I9100 firmware, you probably got modem files not meant for your phone.

Bottom line, check your phone model. Don't trust the boot screen or the About Phone details, as a firmware flash will change those. Look on the label under your battery. I'm guessing you have an SGH-I777, and you flashed a GT-I9100 firmware.
ATT's Galaxy S2 (SGH-I777) has its own forum.
T-Mobile's (SGH-T989) has its own forum too.
EDIT: Please let this be a lesson. Always be sure you are flashing a firmware meant for your specific model of phone.
Hi Everyone,
Anyone using the S5830L variant with UMTS 850 & 1900 on AT&T?
Does AT&T's system recognize the phone and automatically add a smartphone data plan? I'm thinking about getting one for a family member who doesn't need a data plan.
So nobody uses this phone on AT&T's network in the USA? Anyone? Anyone?
Ive not seen any AT&T ppl on here.
If the phone is contract then the contract will stipulate it and their site says they are compulsary. If its PAYG then it cant charge you if you havent any credit and you can easily turn data off. Otherwise I expect they will just charge standard daily fees.
I went ahead and purchased one off Amazon.
Instead of the S5830L model I received the S5830M model which has UMTS 850/1900 support.
Works great on AT&T's 3G network after entering the correct APN even though they don't recognize what model phone it is.

Thanks. The phone is for a non-techie relative. It'll remain stock.
I can't seem to find the stock ROM for it anywhere (WHLA1) so I might try my hand at extracting it and creating an Odin flashable stock ROM.

Sometimes, mobile data signal is very low. It varies from excellent Hspa to minimal Edge... I suppose this is is somewhat due to modem I'm running. It's DXLPA that came with Wanam 12.1.
So, which modem would you suggest to flash? That has a stable data signal reception?
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
Modems are location and carrier dependent, you should try to test...
However, ask to other peoples won't help you so much, 'couse the best modem for "Herry" from Liverpool could not be the best modem for "James" from London....this is just an ex, the point is that tha network signal depends and changes of quality from place to place....
Edit: here a lot of modems---> http://veyka.co.uk/radios/

Try LQ5 or LQ6 , Trust me
I have a GT- i9100 with a 4G plan (HSPA+). The problem is that I cannot get it to work on any non-stock rom. I have tried at least six stock roms and it has worked on each one. But whether aosp/aokp/miui, I can not use my data connection for internet. I have manually entered and double checked apn settings many times. I have enabled hsdpa etc under Galaxy/ Advanced settings and restarted many times. I have tried numerous modems to no avail. My phone is rooted but not unlocked. I am not sure if that is relevant. Help would be greatly appreciated.
