1) Make a Nandroid
2) Edit build.prop to your liking
3) Works and looks fine? Enjoy! Goto 5)
4) Looks crap/doesn't work as planned/bootloop? Restore Nandroid
5) Use phone

set DPI as per your mobile Screen resolution. Its not compatible with 140DPI
You can try 180/185/200/240 if possible.
ok Thnx ill try that later today and post what will happen

Hi,
I want to change DPI on my I9300 with latest stock 4.3 Samsung ROM (rooted) - XXUGMJ9 so I edited the /system/build.prop file using Solid Explorer and changed there ro.sf.lcd_density to 245. After reboot I didn't notice any change. I tried the Texdroider DPI changer but it's already saying that my DPI is 245. Any ideas what I'm missing? Do I have to install/flash anything else?
Thanks.
There can be 2 lines ro.sf.lcd_density in your build.prop maybe u missed one.

LOL, you were right, I changed only one line but there are two lines in the build.prop. Thanks!
I flashed the rooted 5.1.1 firmware, and the developer made the dpi really small so that it looks like a tablet. However, I want everything to be bigger. I want to change from 320 to 400. I tried Dpi changer app on play store, and also tried build prop editor app to change manually, but after rebooting, the setting doesn't stick. It's back to 320.
Could someone please let me know why this is happening? Any idea how I can change to 400?
Thank you so much!
Which rom are you using? If it were just stock rooted than typically developers don't make changes like that. I've had luck with this app before https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
Do you have a locked or unlocked bootloader? I'm guessing locked? Might be something that overwrites the system changes on reboot with the locked version.

It's this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/development/5-1-1-zhyperrom-t3202203
I used that app, and usually in other roms, it works well, but with this rom, it doesn't work.
And I think you're right. I remember now that Sony themselves set the dpi really low, and not the developer. I want to set it 400.
I unlocked my boot loader a while a go, but I'm not sure if it gets locked again since I installed this stock rom again.
Thanks for helping me.
Also before on sony stock rom 5.0.2, I was able to set the dpi to 400, but I'm not sure why in 5.1.1
Did you try the build.prop edit after you set the SELinux to permissive?

lots of apps are available in playstore for dpi changing.
Yeah, but apps mess up icons...better to use adb or build.prop editor
Use easy dpi changer from playstore.
add/modify ro.sf.lcd_density=x in build.prop in case the dpi change messes up icons and images in apps.
