Good 3G speeds - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Never seen this speeds before especially during the day :0 seems like sprint is doing something with network vision and its working lol
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

I understand that you're excited, but there isn't a need to make a thread for something like this. We don't want to be flooded with threads regarding 3G speeds because it just clogs up the boards.
That being said, I'm jealous because I never get speeds like that.
I'd suggest posting this in this thread instead.

good thing 3g is becoming useable since this phone sucks at lte connectivity in its current state.

Please use one of the already opened threads discussing network vision.

[Q] Anyone else getting extremely slow data speeds

I know there are a couple other threads regarding slow data speeds. I'm starting this new one because my problem recently started happening. I had fantastic speeds (2.2mbps) of data speed on average with my EVO 3D and my wifes iPhone 4S up until about a month ago. I'm in the Virginia Beach, VA area and I'm wondering if its just our area? The morons at Sprint CC say its because of the influx of new customers due to the iPhone release. I now average 287kbps of data speed, and half the time my web pages won't fully load. I've hard reset my device a couple times, flashed different roms, etc... but still the same issues. Anyone else having the same issue? If so, where are you located?
Have you tried updating your prl? Helped me a little but not all the time. Since the iPhone was released and around that time they also shut down nextel, since then my 3g data speed has been cut in half on average, no 4g in lakeland fl.
I'm on the latest prl 21085. If you have 21083 or older they're out dated. Easiest way to update is go to settings, system update, then update prl.

Well you were one of the lucky ones then if you had those speeds...
I currently deal with your now current speeds all the time, but thankfully WiFi is everywhere for me...
I will say that a drop off in speeds due to more users on towers is expected but the amount of drop off you describe and it doing so rapidly leads to it not likely just being congestion on the towers and more likely something else...
When you tested the speeds did you do so at the same time of day then and now? They can drop off that amount or close to it over time of day. Like I test at 5am here and ill get 1Mbps easy but 3hr later I'm at 250kbps crap...
If i had to guess I'd say there's maintain going on the tower you pull from, tower issue currently of some sort, OR your stuck in 1xRTT somehow and need to reprovision your phone to fix it.

Somewhere on the Sprint website it will show you all the towers, and how many have been worked on and how many They plan to work on in near future... Posting from tapatalk now, and you will most likely find it before I get you the link,
With all the Sprint stuff going on you should expect to see some odd speeds... Sprint vision... The iphone....

That site only shows work over the past/next 6mo so not really going to tell him much in regards to what he's showing...esp if he had 2Mbps 3G speeds before as in that case they would not be doing the T1 lines for that tower since it doesn't need it for data...

My data speeds ate terrible. I'm in NYC and it's just plain bad.... I get better speeds with the 11115 prl and roaming on verizon.

For those of us unimpressed with LTE

This article really helped me understand why I'm seeing such poor LTE speeds in Chicago.

I thought this was going to another one of those great "class action lawsuit" threads.
Aw man, a service that's been available for two weeks doesn't work perfectly for me, they must be doing something wrong!
Lol. Sprints network is much faster than 6 to 8 mbs dl, it's just what they can guarantee. It's always better to underestimate the network rather than overestimate it.

I've been using it every day and that's actaually exactly what I get: 6-8MGPS. I hope it improves of course. In fact 6-8 works fine for me, I was just doing some research on why it is so much slower than the RAZORMAx I also have-pulling down 30+ in the same spot.

Worst article ever....completely lacks any knowledge of what's going on in the NV buildout at all....if they did then they wouldn't of wasted their time writting that article bc sprint is upgrading backhaul to microwave or fiber based everywhere during this rollout...soooooo much is being done and changed its insane to think what this article points to...basically the only thing that will be the same when this is done is the freaking tower structure itself!
For those that don't know what's going on nor the details, take some time to go read up on everything and grasp some knowledge and be better educated on it all please....

Thanks. That helps also. Again, I was just sitting here , with two phones , both connected to their repective LTE networks , and wanted to understand why such a speed discrepency. That was the first article I found. I didn't present it as fact. You sound like you know what your talking about. Can you link me to anything that will help me better understand why I see such speed differences on such similar technology? ( full signal bars on both).

take a week and read around all over there....
Verizon is using a 10x10MHz LTE network while Sprint's is only 5x5MHz....BUT VZ has a butt load more subscribers on their network than sprint so in the end they need more capacity anyway to start....
Most of the complaints from sprints current build out have been b/c they are announcing markets as live when only roughly 25% towers are live and ready....
Sprint is also building their network out to have a higher average speed as opposed to a higher peak speed,....something I completely agree with tbh, as I would much rather avg 7-10Mbps all the time(with the peak of 20ish) than peak out on a speed test at 30 every now and then....also whats the real honest need for 30Mbps connection on your phone anyway?...if your looking to replace your home Internet connection with this then I can see the need, otherwise I dont get the strong need for 30Mbps speed DL on a phone right now....yeah itll help out with the file downloads some but other than that?.....

Completely agree. Id rather have consistency all day as well. And, as I posted earlier, I'm completely fine with the 6-8 I'm getting (who needs more than that on a phone really?) , I just got to wondering why the speeds were so drastically different between the two.

consistency is key..I'd much rather be blanketed in LTE.that I know what speeds to expect..I'm not dling large files on the go anyways..that's why I have da wifiz..anything above 5 will suit me ..I get 20 mbs DowN at home.with WiFi and hd YouTube (app)still buffers constantly..shoot id be happy with consistent 2-3 mbs 3g

another note though....as noted over there, there are infact places in Chicago that are having sites completed before backhaul is in place, which would explain the results some have experienced....backhaul connections are "supposed" to be in place before sites go live but there are instances this isn't the case evidently....its rare but it has happened....
regardless though, its a temporary situation and easy/quick fix once its ready and the provider has their ish in gear and backhaul in place...

Where, in Chicago, are you that you're getting any LTE connection at all? Because LTE isn't active in Chicago, yet... lol If you're in a far-south suburb, you may be connecting to Hammond, Indiana's network. Reports in other Chicago areas have been sporadic, at best.

Few questions for EVO 4G owners

Currently looking at the S3 or the EVO right now to change up from my S2 (it's starting to mess up hardware wise) While I love my S2 there were always issues with Samsung radios and being for lack of a better word piss poor signal wise. Just kinda looking for some info oh what you guys think about your EVO's and radio signal as well as hardware vs the S3. I can read reviews all day long but looking for some real word use from actual owners who have been using the phone for a few.
anything helpful would be great
Thanks
And ermf wrong forum (at school and tired meh)
Edit
I'm not worried about the LTE issues I've been reading about right now as Seattle does not have any LTe coverage (and from the looks of it were not getting it till sometime next year) So this would be 3G based radio performance that I'm asking about.
I don't have any signal issues. I have a few dropped calls now and then but I think that's a Sprint issue. Camera and camera software is topnotch. Speaker sounds good. Bluetooth works good. WiFi and data act weird sometimes, seems like the phone has a rough time switching between the two. Proximity sensor sometimes doesn't work right in low light situations. All in all I think it's a good phone. Runs fast, sense reloads once in awhile.
Agreed...the phone is solid, I'm happy I went with it instead of the gs3. Sprint's service on the other hand...

Eh I'm ok with the Sprint service here (at least for me) The S2 has been solid for me just recently it's been having reboot issues out of no where even with pure stock so I know it's hardware issues which I'm going to get it replaced but I've been looking at the S3 and the EVO as well to replace it. Reading the forums it's looking like some are having issues with 3g and most are having issues with LTE which like I said honestly does not bother me being as I have not LTE here in Seattle for awhile :/
Yeah, we in Seattle are hosed for a while
If you get the Evo, bear in mind, there is currently no S-off method for the version you'll likely get. I haven't had any WiFi issues like other poster mentioned and I love this device.
That said, posting here, you're likely to get biased advice. Hopefully you posted in both forums.

Won't stay connected to LTE

My EVO 4G LTE won't stay connected to LTE.
I just came to visit my family in ATL and it won't stay connected. When I reset my radio (airplane mode on then off) it connects to 4G with 3 or 4 bars and then disconnects every time. I haven't gotten it to stay connected for more than 20 seconds.
I'm running Stock With Goodies 2.14. I have roaming set to auto, and I have my data mode set to CDMA/LTE.
Any suggestions?
Update your prl and profile. Let me know how that works.
Yeah, I already tried that. I just tried it again for giggles and still no go.
I just did a full wipe and updated to stock with goodies 2.14 a little earlier because I was on 2.11 and it wasn't staying connected - I thought that a hard reset might help resolve the issue (plus I needed to update anyway).
The bars you see have nothing to do with your LTE signal. Stock OEM ROMs show 1x signal strength at all times, whether or not it says 3G or LTE. Chances are, you are on the edge of LTE with a very weak signal. The phone can connect to one tower for voice service but also be connected to a completely different tower much farther away for LTE (or EVDO for that matter), so a strong voice signal does not indicate a strong data signal.
There is a lot of relevant info on this stuff in the forums at s4gru.com. The people over there know exactly what they're talking about.
Ah... So I'm probably connected to the next tower over and it just goes out.

So, basically, the EVO LTE's LTE connect isn't very good. This kinda makes me upset.
I can get a constant connection if I set the mode as LTE only. It's not a good connection, but it is LTE. It makes me wonder if my phone doesn't know about other LTE towers nearby because sprint has excellent coverage here.

So far the official stance is that it is a software issue. An update is supposed to fix it.

Well, I'm sure it is an Evo software issue (my GS3 gets LTE in places my sister's Evo doesn't; I'm hoping for her sake that it's a software issue), but the point was that the signal is weak enough for the phone to fall back to 3G instead of holding onto it and that the bars he saw were deceptive.

You know something? You're right. I make these forums smell like fecal matter by attempting to harmonize and combine similar topics. Nay, I am single-handedly bringing on the downfall of humanity! How dare I try to direct people to topics that have been created 3 times before to help other people who might have this problem so they don't have to go looking for the information in multiple, scattered threads.
And to cater to your apparent love of all things scatological, the next thing you know, parents aren't going to tell their kids to eat their vegetables more than once. And why should they? Learning from people who have been there before is simply not worth it when we can just spend 45 minutes on the can trying to take a grunt. (In case you don't get it, "learning from people [before]" refers to people who have previously created threads on the same topic and "45 minutes on the can" refers to wasting time searching for the information which is fragmented across a forum, which you seem to prefer.)

Well 4G is HSPA+ .. so unless your Signal says "H" you aren't connecting to the 4G signal. Don't blame the phone blame who ever decided that your area is not worth the money to setup a proper HSPA tower.
