Stock AT&T GB, boot loop - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Last night my wife's S2 battery died. When she plugged it in it comes up with the Samsung Galaxy SII splash screen, then black and then the splash screen again. We let it charge overnight and the charge looks fine. When I tried again this morning to turn the phone on I get the same results.
So I thought I'd be able to get into download mode and flash the stock ROM with Odin. I'm able to get into download mode, but now the problem is when I hook it to my PC via USB I'm getting an Unknown Device error. I've tried to reinstall the driver itself, un-installed/re-installed Kies and the drivers...still no luck. I've also went into device manager and uninstalled the unknown device, rebooted and as soon as I reconnect the phone I get the same message. I've even used a toothbrush to clean the micro USB port, just in case.
I'm sure if I can get this to connect properly via USB I should be able to get the phone back up and running.
Any ideas?

Try to reboot into Recovery and then Wipe data/factory reset and Reboot.
Or wipe cache first, then try to reboot. And if a no go, then wipe data, reboot.

Her phone is stock/unrooted.
Probably sent from the bathroom.

No prob. Hold volume + & - together with Power button until it reboots and u see the Samsung Galaxy S II screen, then release all buttons.
Navigate in the recovery up and down with volume buttons and select what u want with the power key.

Oh, I didn't even try that. I rooted my skyrocket and putCWM recovery on it. I didn't know there was a recovery by default that I could boot into.
Thanks, I'll give it a go.

So I tried the cache first/rebooted, then did the factory reset/reboot. Now I'm back to the Samsung loop again. Plus now if I try to go to recovery I get 'Deleting Cryption Meta Data', then it goes back to the loop.

Man I hope that phone wasn't on stock ICS...
When u said stock, i was thinkin GB.

You're right, it's GB...it's in the title.

Whew !! Good !! Because u do not want to do a wipe data from the Stock ICS Kernel.
Anyway, it looks like u r gonna need to get into Download Mode and Odin or Heimdall back to a Stock Firmware. Not sure why ur pc isn't recognizing ur phone though...Did u reboot ur pc after the uninstall of the drivers, then try and reinstall ? (<---see in ur OP that u did)... And connnect to a usb port in the back of the pc, not a hub. Try a different micro usb/usb cable.
And see this post about the "Deleting Cryption Meta Data'" .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27368753&postcount=7

Yeah, I've tried it all. Even a different PC.
The phone is still under warranty, and I think that's going to be the route I'm going to have to take. Just hoped to avoid it because it'll take 6 days or something to get a replacement from AT&T.

do you get to the white Vibrant screen?
I would say try to get into download mode, and use odin to get back to stock. Just my $0.02
No, after the galaxy boot I get the dark blank black screen. But the menu buttons are constantly on...
Well at least youre not bricked.
you cant get into recovery by holding the volume buttons?
if not then I think ODIN is your next option unfortunately.
LAME! Well here goes nothin'...
'course i don't know everything, maybe there is some magical way to get it on... good luck.....
If you can get it to turn on and display Vibrant then you are not bricked. Boot into recovery and try and wipe. If that doesn't work boot into download mode and reflash the stock rom with odin.

I have tried over and over to boot into recovery as well as download mode to no avail. I called T-Mob and they are sending a replacement, but I want to wipe my device as well as recover my files. The real kicker is that I made a nandroid backup earlier in the day.
My main concern is if I reflash with odin, how do I get to download mode when I've tried a million different ways?

There are supposedly a bunch of ways, I find the way that works 100% of the time for me is. Dont touch the power button at all. Unplug battery. Put it back in. hold down both the up and down volume keys. Then plug in the usb cord thats already connected to your computer. Good luck.

[Q] stuck on vibrant logo

so i was reflashing to cm7 #71 last night and i always do a clean install by formating boot system and cache. after i formated the 3 idk why but i let the phone shut off.
now i am stuck at just the vibrant logo. i have tried getting into cwm and download mode with no success. i plugged it in to the computer to see if i can at least access to adb no help there either.
does any body have a solution to this on this?
Um, first question; why do you format /boot? No where in any directions do they tell you to format that as that's where you're kernel is located.
And, if you can't access dl mode with the hardware buttons, why didn't you headed the large red letters telling you not to use CM7 if you can't access dl mode without the hardware buttons?
Have.you tried vol+ vol- and then USB? If you're running gb bootloaders (which you shouldn't be), then I don't know the button combo.
But the only way to recover is by geting into dl mode and Odin back to jfd.

I always format/ boot. Its a cleaner install and have no problems going from multiple kernel changes. I could get into download using button combo before I flashed. Now I cant

try this always works. take battery out phone, plug in usb to pc and phone hold vol + and -, and insert battery at same time, should put u in download mode.
Assuming u have a froyo bootloader
1) Power down ur phone
2) hold volume up + volume down then plug ur phone to a PC or laptop....don't let go of two volume buttons...
3) should b in download mode...

ive tried every combo i can think of. still just sits at vibrant. was able to make a jig that put it into DLM but then was getting reconized at all by my computer even with all the correct drivers..... i think i actually might be outta luck
You could get a JIG which will automaticly put it into download mode. It can be found here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053H73JQ/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/188-7446597-2980456

@halo
yea i was able to make one for 2 dollars and it works beautifully just now i cant get the computer to reconize the phone. i have the right drivers loaded but its seeing it as some crazy junk
edit: well got all the drivers working. made a new better jig and was able to get odin to reconize it.
didnt flash though. seemed jammed up. so i took it off of odin which left the phone in the phone to computer screen( PROGRESS) plugged it back into the computer. odin saw it and presto! back up and running on JFD
Ditto
I have done the same thing! Sent you a pm... Let me know what driver config you had to use to get it working.
Thanks!

Phone stuck in boot loop.

My phone is stuck in some kind of a boot loop... i can get it into download mode but cant get it into cwm. I have tried flashing lots of stuff via odin but it doesn't make any difference. Is there any way I can fix this?
weird O.O do you mean bootanimation is looping cause you can actually get into CWM before the bootanimation
nope clockwork mod has disappeared D:
After installing new ROM did u again wiped cache or data?? If so reinstalling would be better,,
I reinstalled using odin
try to reset factory settings and clear cache after installing...

By flashing via Odin with a stock rom, you'll loose CWM. You have to flash CWM again to get it back. But as you described it, you can't even get into Recovery mode (blue Samsung recovery screen with HOME+Power button combo)?
^^

If u can't get to recovery mod then flash a new firmware from sammobile via Odin

I had this problem also.
I reloaded a new stock rom from sam and loaded it with odin, after the install I turned the phone on with the power button + the home button and did a factory reset and wipe catch.
And that worked.
u need to hold the power button + home button till you get in the menu.
I came from cm7.1 and went to stock rom 2.3.5.
Hope get it. Otherwise post your steps from which rom you came.

[HELP REQUEST] Rooted I9300 stuck in CWM 5.8.4.0

I had problems with my rooted S3 (International) earlier today, and that's why I thought that flashing a lower version of CWM may fix my problems. However, flashing CWM 5.8.4.0 actually made things worse.
I am currently stuck and cannot navigate out of CWM. Pressing Power or Home don't do/select anything, and browsing the menu is next to impossible, too (menu disappers).
Phone is not recognized by adb, it does not show in Windows Explorer either. Got a "failed to install" when I connected it.
When I try "adb devices", I only get "list of devices attached" without the phone showing.
Whenever I reboot [after bettery pull], I get back into CWM again.
CWM does not react to button presses as it should; doesn't go anywhere no matter which keys/buttons I press.
Battery pull doesn't do anything; neither does Power+Volume up or down
Looks like I am screwed... am I?
Anyone has an idea how I can get out of this and back to either CM9, or install a newer version of CWM (over the obviously dysfunctional version 5.8.4.0)?
Thanks!
flashed touch recovery?
No, it's not 'Touch'... I wish it were that simple...

Looks like your much luckier than I am. Can't believe this really happened to me. It's a first for me, though

[SOLVED] I9300 stuck in CWM > Back in ODIN mode!
Geeez... That was a close one!
Apparently, and in order to get into ODIN (Download) mode on the S3/I9300, one has to press & hold...
1.) Volume down
2.) Home button
3.) Power
Once I did that, my S3 (I9300) booted into ODIN Mode. [ Big sigh of relief!!! ]
I thought it was just Volume Down + Power... but apparently I was wrong. Guess that happens if you don't use Odin for flashing all the time.
Can't wait to get home and flash a proper recovery, so I can get my phone back into work mode. It sucks not having a working phone, trust me on that... ;-)
Thanks for your input, guys!

Adb Acess at boot?

Is there any way to access adb during boot? I want to be able to clear the cache on my phone, because i recently restored to the stock software. But there's one problem, when i repaired my screen, i nicked the volume control ribbon cable, and i've lost my volume buttons. So using the home/power/volume up combo won't work for me.
Any suggestions/ideas?
I have a usb jig to get me into download mode, so i have the ability to use odin, is there an odin package that i can flash that will just clear the cache/and do a factory data reset?
Can anyone steer me in the right direction? I just need adb access at boot, or a flashable odin file that will only do a factory wipe
Change csc...if you change csc it will duo factory reset.

I thought he could boot the phone since his power button is working.
Anyway, I tried it on my phone. I shut it down and powered it on. As soon as the boot animation started the device was detected by the command
"adb devices"
Then I just used
"adb reboot recovery"
and it immediately rebooted (mid way through boot animation) into recovery.
I hope this clears things up.

Thanks for the reply, i've tried this But for some reason when i do the adb devices command it only says " a list of devices attatched" and no device id.
I'm in a boot loop right now, and my computer does recognize the connection to the phone, maybe the adb drivers aren't installed properly?

I did try to flash back to stock, as well as partitioning the phone with odin, but it still seems to just bootloop. Any time i've flashed back to stock firmware i had go into recovery and do a factory wipe, and the phone booted right up. But when i replaced the screen in my phone, i tore the volume ribbon cable. So no easy way into recovery
If you change csc then flash and modem and pda like jb leaked

Partitioning? Maybe you screwed up something when you did that... besides after flashing stock you don't need to clear cache. It must boot properly because flashing stock ROM will clear your cache anyways...
