hi guys.
a month ago, my sgs2 landed in a lake while running on the beach, it was thrown out of my pocket. since that day, i have problems with the sim-card reader and my computer does not recognize the phone any more (it is able to charge it, but i can't access the USB memory, neither with nor without usb-debugging). so i want to send it in for repairs. problem? binary counter...
i haven't tried yet, but i want to make a special procedure: it's now on checkrom revohd 6 (android 2.3.6) and i know on android 4 i can reset the binary counter. (i know it's also possible with usb jig but i lost mine and in addition i'm not sure that it will work because also usb-storage mode doesn't work.)
so my idea is - upgrading from checkrom revohd to ICS via mobileodin (with a pre-rooted kernel - if that exists. I'm not sure but I think a saw an ICS rom with a pre-rooted kernel in it - of course non-wipe) - then with triangleaway reset the binary counter - and then send it to samsung repair center.
any opinions if this will work / will brick my phone completely? (of course i tried with odin to upgrade my phone. doesn't work.. )
thanks for your help
ps: please help me, this is quite important because my warranty will end in a month...
anyone? my warranty is valid just until the end of october

but this is still not that what i want. i wanna send it in for repairs. so i need a stock rom with binary counter on 0. i can't flash via laptop and odin, so i have to do via cwm or mobileodin. is this possible to upgrade from CheckromRevoHD 2.3.6 to ICS, with a pre-rooted kernel in it so i can reset the binary counter via triangleaway?
anyone who knows this?

Isn't Mobile Odin capable of root injection, regardless of what you flash?
EDIT: oh, it's only the Pro version. Well, if you don't feel like buying Mobile Odin Pro (which is worth it, in my opinion) you can always use method 1 from this thread to root after flashing stock ICS.

okay, so if you say this, i'll try.
just in case, i'll write down what i will do:
i have now: galaxy s2 with android 2.3.6 (checkromrevohd v6), NO USB CONNECTION to computer, i can't use odin.
1) i will download stock ics 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 from here. then put this into mobileodin and flash it (hopefully it's nonwipe^^)
2) root this with your link provided (thanks!).
3) then, install via the cwm siyah
4) install triangleaway to reset the binary counter
5) install a stock kernel
6) send it in for repairs
did i forget something? i hope not
and thank you for this gorgeous support :good::good:

I'd use a 4.0.3 version, as 4.0.4 has a dangerous bug in it that can possibly be triggered by doing a factory reset/data wipe from CWM recovery, if you have an affected eMMC chip.
And if you plan on using steps 3 and 5, you don't need step 2. Or you can use step 2 to JUST root, there are UNrooting instructions provided in that link as well, and if you do this, then you don't need steps 3 and 5. Your choice.
ah okay. i thought i need siyah to reset via triangleaway. but okay just root, then reset. now i'll try...
edit: to install siyah (step 3) i need cwm that i just get through this rooting procedure, right? or is it also possible with stock cwm? that's the reason i writed it down... otherwise i'll skip this step

Yes, you'll need the CWM from that link I gave you to get the temporary CWM recovery that allows you to flash kernels.
You can't flash kernels from stock recovery, unfortunately.

Right ive been researching for the last 3 hours. And i think im ready to root and install custom rom on my phone when it arrives. But i would like some clarifaction on the steps:
Install cf-root using odin- this should give me root and CWM?

Download zip rom and flash through CWM?
Is that about it or have i missed something? seems too easy.

- Yes.
- Yes.
- Can't say.
- You need usb jig to reset the ROM counter.
- To remove the Yellow Triangle you need to flash back a Stock kernel via Odin and then flash the zImage of rooted kernel via CWM. No need to use Jig for that.
Regards.

yes the jig get rids of the yellow triangle and resets the counter.
i don't mind having the yellow triangle because I'll be flashing rom updates almost every month.
Installed custom rom 24 times yet not satisfactory results (((((((((((
I don't know if its even funny or unusual but yes i downloaded like every single rom i could and installed it on my galaxy s2 but most of them got installed and phone got stuck on start samsung logo. Now i got it working. Here are the details what i got on my phone information.I want to know if it is any good or i should try more downloading.lol
Phone : samsung galaxy s2 GT-19100
ANDROID VERSION : 2.3.3
kernel version : [email protected] 2
build number gingerbread.XWKE1
Did you wipe the phone before flashing?
Some ROMs require that you wipe the phone's userdata (data) partition before flashing, or it will be stuck at the Samsung logo repeatedly.
Did you wipe the phone after flashing?
Some ROMs does not allow you to wipe the phone's userdata (data) partition after you flash it, or it will be stuck at the Samsung logo boot loop.

The rom builder decides the method of flashing you just follow the given instructions .
Essentially no difference .

Clockwork Recovery, does not require a computer to update, change rom. You download the ROM which is in ZIP format. You can use your phone to download it. Then you boot into Clockwork Recovery and install it. You can also use ROM Manager or CWM App to install it as well.
ODIN requires a computer to install rom. ROM is in TAR format and you must boot your phone into Download mode, plug the phone to the computer, then flash the ROM using your computer via ODIN.
When using ODIN to flash a custom kernel, it increases the custom binary counter. A yellow exclamation triangle during the Samsung boot logo will appear if it is not there before.
When using Clockwork Recovery to flash a custom kernel, it does not increase custom binary counter. Since it does not increase the binary counter, there is no yellow exclamation triangle.

Hi Ricey.
Why don't you give the stock rom a chance.Get rid of some of the apps you don't want & replace others with better one's from the market. Have a play with the phone for a couple of weeks & get used to it before you root it.Who knows you might like the stock rom after all.

Hello guys,
I have just bought myself a Samsung Galaxy S II from Komplett.no:
http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=631205#extra
Product Number = GT-I9100LKANEE
I have been using a HTC Desire HD and wanted to get all my data from that phone to my new Galaxy S II. A friend of mine told me to root both phones and use Titanum Backup to backup all data from my HTC and restore it on my new Galaxy S II.
Before I begun I updated my firmware through the update button on my phone, then started rooting.
I rooted my Galaxy S II with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
Short summary: downloaded Odin3-v1.85 and XWKDD_insecure.tar. Set my phone to debugging mode, rebooted into download mode. Odin showed that is was connected. Pressed PDA button and selected the XWDD_insecure.tar file and pressed start. Phoen rebooted and it was rooted.
I got all my data restored from Titanum backup.
Then my phone started acting wierd. Suddenly no one could either call or send me sms. I had to reboot the phone several times to get it to work again. This was early starting to frustrate me and I started to google this problem and found no spesific solution.
I then started to wanting to reset my phone back to factory. Unroot my phone and reset all settings. I unrooted my phone again with SuperOneClick.
Then a new error started showing. I could not connect to any WLAN's. Tried resetting my phone to default several times without luck.
Then I started to look for the original firmware because now I want my phone back to normal as it was when I got it from the shop. I started to look for original firmware, thinking this would help. I have now tried severel firmwares (upgraded via Odin) but still having problems with WLAN and now also sometimes people can't call or send me sms.
This is really starting to get on my nerves And I REALLY wan't your help! I am a noob at this so maybe I have done something wrong?
I also get a message on KIES that the phone/firmware installed does not support updating. The firmware I now am using is as follow: I9100XWKI8/I9100XXKI2/I9100XXKI4/I9100XWKI8
Model number = GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version = I9100XXKI4
Kernel version = 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395 [email protected] #2
Build number = GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
PLEASE HELP ME reststoring/resetting my phone like it was before I opened the case it came in. I DONT want the phone rooted, I now just want it as normal as it can be. Original state.
First of all, what is your product code? The original should be on the box.
You can use that to search Intratech firmware thread. Flash via Odin and phone with USB debugging on and then connect to PC USB in download mode. Follow his flashing instructions and you should be fine.
Edit1: [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2/3 Download
Edit2: Use this website and use your prodict code to find your HIDSWVER; PDA / CSC/ Phone, then go to Intratech's thread and find the original firmware. Then flash.

Doesnt really matter what your original firmware was. As lonf as your phone the European and not US or Korean or something like that, pick up the latest firmware and kernel from the intratech thread and flash both as per the instructions there and root it using chainfires insecure kernel.
That ought to do the trick. It will wipe out all your data btw.
I've just checked for you from the Product Code you supplied in your first post: GT-I9100LKANEE. If this is correct, you can flash the following firmware from Intratech's Thread. Use Odin (disable KIES) with the firmware button "PDA".

Yes, that's correct. But he was after to returning it to how it was out of the box. . So I spent a little time to help him with the way forward.
Ok, thank you! I have now done the following:
1) Set my phone to USB Debugging
2) Shut phone down
3) Connect it to USB on my PC
4) Started phone in Download Mode
5) Started ODIN (Run as Admin)
6) Clicked on PDA and browed to the file I downloaded (the file you mentioned over)
7) Clicked on START
8) Phone rebooted
Still having trouble connecting to WLAN and KIES is still telling me that it is not supporting upgrade!
This is the latest build for your product code, so there won't be any until released for that particular product code.
You could try flashing an earlier Android version for your product code?
Take a look at Intratech's Firmware Thread again. The very first Official Firmware XWKDD . This may be Android version 2.3.3 .......very old
You will have to flash the stock kernel separately after the firmware.

2nd Option: Root using Chainfire's CF-Root Kernel, with your latest installed firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Just flash his rooted stock kernel via Odin same as firmware. Done. Will give you root and a custom recovery CWM Recovery.
As wifi drivers are found in the kernel, you might like to try some custom kernels instead? Maybe you'll get better performance. You can flash custom kernels via CWM Recovery by placing on your sdcard and installing from zip from within recovery.
Edit: I believe this should be it?

Thank you! That kernel seemed to be the right one for me Now I can connect to the WLAN.
But what exactly do I need to do If I any time need service on my phone? Just unroot it with SuperOneClick? If I wanna use the warranty on the phone. Just a question.
To return to stock, just flash your original "updated" firmware with Odin. This will also remove root.
To reset the binary flash counter and remove warning triangle (seen in download mode), search Ebay for "Samsung USB jig". It costs about $2 . Can also force the phone into download mode when phone is off, and if your phone is "soft" bricked. Well worth it, as I used it myself to return one SGS2 for warranty. You can make it too with old male micro USB plug and 301k ohm resistor.

And my last question is, will I get the updates via the update in settings -> about? Or do I have to download the custom once from xda and flash my phone?
Actually can't 100% remember.
90% think no updates. You can just download official from Intratech thread, he updates almost as soon as they're available, and flash via Odin. You will loose root though, so make sure there is a compatible CF-Root Kernel first.
Alternatively, try a custom ROM and kernel such as in my signature. CheckROM 3.1.1 (KJ3) & siyahkernel v2.2 kernel (governor - Smartassv2 with SetCPU app) . Can be highly customized, only if you wish, or stock look.
Custom ROM's are regularly updated by developers to latest build.

Hello again......Not good my friend
What kernel are you running, stock our custom?

XW_NEE_KI8: 2.3.5, CF-Root v4.3, SU 3.0.2, "insecure"
from this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1318061076
Your second question is answered by the above answer that's a different kernel that did not come with the firmware.
Yes I have root
Yes, I have issues connecting to work and home router and there is nothing wrong with those since there are alot of other devices and computers connected to those WLAN's.
Just had a thought.....
Try setting up your connection to the router with router settings "broadcast SSID" name visible, keep other security enabled.
I had a similar problem where my HTC DHD would not connect to router after reboot, but would only connect with SSID (router name) visible.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I really don't think that will help anything. It has worked before I started rooting and flashing
Mate, all I can think of is for you to try a very good custom kernel. Maybe have modified our better wifi drivers.
One I can highly recommend is;
[KERNEL] SiyahKernel v2.3 - "One kernel to rule them all" (SAMMY&AOSP ROMs)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17583217
You can download for flash via Odin or CWM Recovery (from internal our external sdcard .zip)
Give it a try, sorry can't come up with anything else right now.

Hi guys noob here!
keepin it brief, i have brought a rooted galaxy s2 I9100.
it all works fine except:
- i cannot upload any data (songs/videos) to the fone
- update to ice cream sandwich (error message after data download)
- i cannot connect via kies air (browser error after connection)
attempting to re-root i have found a CNET how to root guide but with no luck
- my current kernel v is [email protected] #2
i have matched the closest insecure as well as secure kernel (I9100XWKDG) & attempted to flash them using Odin 3 but no luck
- i cannot unroot the phone either as i cannot flash a secure kernel using Odin 3
can anyone advise how to get the unusable phone features working again?
i dont mind if the phone is rooted or not
Grab a branded or unbranded stock rom or go to samfirmware and get a stock rom from there, flash the device and start fresh if you not bothered about root and want the stock apps back.
Selection of stock ics roms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
im not to keen on wiping the fone just yet as i haven't backed it up fully,
in the meantime i downloaded odin3 v3.04 (was using v1.83 earlier) & re-attempted to flash the insecure kernel
the result was ''complete (write) operation failed''
any idea what this means ?
Edit: removed as I think I misunderstood some of your post.
So you are unable to flash the stock rom using ODIN?
Any how, not sure what it is going on, maybe you are not flashing the correct file.
I believe it is better not to use ODIN to root your phone, the new method to root is the safest and the easiest and you dont have to worry about your baseband version.
Here is the link on how to root GS2, the files needed can be downloaded from the link below the video.
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2/

Hi,
Im kind of new to this, so i need some help. I have googled all this stuff but it still makes no sense.
So, im trying to root my galaxy s2. I've done everything according to instructions.
Im running on ICS 4.03 and my kernel version is
3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913
[email protected] #3
Baseband:
I9100XXLPS
I have downloaded the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.tar , as it is supposed to be the one I need to use with odin.
I have installed Kies and drivers for the phone.
I fire up download mode, and do everything correctly in Odin with the file stated above. Then when I try to use SuperOneClick and click root, the problems start;
First it says that automatic version detection failed, is my OS version newer than 2.0?
-> So i hit yes.
Then the next window pops, and states that my phone has already been rooted. do i still want to root anyway? i hit no, so it stops.
if i hit yes, it starts to root ite, which i have tried 3 times and the longest I tried it took 90 minutes, so i gave up.
Then i try to execute some commands with terminal or titanium backup, and nothing actually works. I see superuser and CWM in my apps though.
What am i doing wrong?
thanks in advance.
After flashing CF-Root there is no need to use SOC, because CF-Root is already rooted. :silly:

Ok, but when i try i.e. titaniumbackup it says that im not rooted?
and my kernel in the setting is the one that i stated.
Can i install a custom rom now or can i not?
Get SuperSU from Google Play, should help you.
If not, flash other kernel like Siyah/Dorimanx or whatever.

Ok, but can I install any rom for i9100 I want regardles of my kernel?
As long as its rooted... right?
Also, the SuperSu says that the SU binary needs to be updated when i open the application. Then it says update failed.
Goddamn i hate this when this happens to me.
Could you even point to me where to download these other kernel and are they safe to install on my device? i don't understand anymore
Yeah. Except certain latest ROMs that use the latest Mali drivers. Siyah doesn't support those yet. And the dorimanx kernel that supports those doesn't support the older JB and all ICS ROMs
Download siyah v4.1.5 from www.gokhanmoral.com
Use the tar version if your installing via Odin and the zip version if via CWM recovery.

OK,
So i installed siyah with odin. Superoneclick says still that i am rooted so i cant root.
In the phone nothing that should work (titanium, superSU,) is working.
So it is not really rooted.
What the F am i doing wrong guys?

I agree with Siyah, been using it since 2011 without issue
Try rooting using the method by rachmat3 thats in my sig.
Then flash the siyah kernel if you want.
Do it all through recovery/cwm if you want.

Do a nand backup and efs backup also before you muck things up.
Guys, is there any chance of rooting the phone without flash with odin or from the mobile odin?
Serve unlock root for ICS 4.0.3?
From already thank you very much.
PS: Sorry for my English is not very good
Look at the PhilZ-CWM6 custom kernel. It can be flashed in stock recovery and includes SuperSU, root, ClockworkMod Recovery and Busybox.
It is pure stock based, and doesn't have MMC brickbug.
Thanks for responding! But there would be some way that only makes you root, without installing a modified kernel and without CWM? is that I want nothing more root access

This method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 doesn't flash a custom kernel, but do include CWM. Why don't you want CWM?

You're wrong pal, using the first method will only root your phone, no cwm nor custom kernel. its a single file u flash through stock recovery that gives you root and busybox, nothing else.
Thanks friend! Now I see it, I do not set it up yet because there is no custom rom, just want root : D

Try flashing a custom kernel through Odin on your PC. Plenty of guides on here and Google. That way you can flash cm through recovery. Keep an eye out for the kernel bug related to 4.0.4. Again lots of documentation on that too.

Thanks and one more thing, Is there any risk of getting my phone bricked during rooting part only? I mean we are not installing a firmware so why would the phone get bricked!

There is ALWAYS a risk when doing anything to your device. The level of risk is down to what you are doing and what state the battery is in etc.
As long at the rooted kernel you are flashing is compatible with the current firmware then all SHOULD be fine.

ExynosExploit by chainfire can root it. Has got a dangerous tag attached to it tho.
Stuck in bootloop
Hi,
So, this is what happened
I have a galaxy SII gt-i9100, About 5 months ago I rooted it and installed the galaxy nexus update to android 4.0.4. and everything was ok except it wasn't showing me the option to transfer via blue tooth (but that didn't bother me much). These were the things I used
1. GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4
2. Odin3 v1.83
3. GT-I9100_XWKI8_insecure
4. GT-I9100_XWKI8_original
Now, yesterday I a friend had galaxy S II i9100P and he updated the firmware using kies and it had working blue tooth. I thought ok let's change it to that and my blue tooth might work also. I was at work and I (in a hurry) tried rooting it with only Odin. No backup, No Clockwork  nothing. ( and "Now it's stuck at the startup screen. I can go to download mode and recovery mode but it has samusg recovery not clockwork. I don't know what to do and in need of help. I'd really appreciate a quick response. (hoping to get atleast the mass data back )
These were the only 2 things used.
1. Odin3 v1.83
2. I9100JPLPH_I9100OJPLPF_PAK

ok, the galaxy nexus update? you mean Jelly Bean or Supernexus / chamaleon?
I think that you've installed a stock ROM over a custom ROM and that's why you are stucked at the logo.
read a little bit about flashing because you are up for it.
Learn about SD card data when flashing and follow a tutorial to flash stock ICS 4.0.3 via odin thru Download mode.
Also make sure to flash a safe kernel so you wont get the brick bug (see warning post sticked in the general section).
I don't know what to put here...any ideas?
fixed.Thanks
