Am I Bricked ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ,
I am running T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3
I was installing wanam-lite ROM , my phone was rooted already and I flashed myself into ClockWorkMod Recovery.
When I tried to install the .zip file I can an error that said.
"assert failed:write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")" error"
So I then backed out of the whole recovery and selected reboot phone.
Once my phone powered off it never powered back on.
Here's what my phone is currently doing.
Power button = No response
Volume down + Home + Power = No response
Remove battery + Plug in wall charger = Red LED comes on , but phone is still unresponsive
Remove Battery + Plug in Wall charger + Put battery back in = Still no response.
P.S When phone connects to PC makes a sound - Ba doom
Then 2 seconds after makes a rejected sound

Get a jig , pull the battery and wait a minute. Reinsert the battery and then the jig. That should get you in downloadmode and flash a stock rom with Odin.See item 2 and 3 in my signature. Good luck

As you are rooted they may deny warranty and charge you for repair.

Can you get into recovery? Home, vol up and power?

You flashed the wrong rom from the wrong forum and the phone cannot boot. You probably have a US model with a dualcore cpu and LTE.

Dude, make your own jig, it is so easy. All you need is a old micro usb cable and some resistors. You can find how to do it on google.
Will take only a few minutes to do it once you have the materials

The bad news is my main PC is down and i am using a very limited laptop without admin rights, so I can't install or do anything.
I am supposed to get parts to build a new machine some time next week.

Your phone is alright. Take a breath and go in Sprint and download an ROM when one is available. You just installed the wrong stuff but its an easy fix. Might take days some time for a rom to come online though
Just return it to sprint when they get some in stock and get a new one.

To do this, pull the battery out (to make sure the phone is completely off), plug it in, hold the volume-down and home buttons then turn it on while holding those buttons.
If you can get it into download mode, then it should be possible to reflash the proper firmware using Odin.
Or at least, that's how things went when I had my Samsung Vibrant. I've only owned my S3 for a day.

Sorry, you're qhsusb_dload (aka hard) bricked. I've spent about 3 days trying to fix mine after I bricked it flashing a kernel on a bad port of cwm. If I had a working S3 and another 3 days I might be able to un-hardbrick it, but yeah, will just be exchanging it as soon as they come back in stock.

Just take it to Sprint but don't tell em you was trying to download a custom rom.. Simple they probably don't know the issue yet until more people start taking they brick phones in because they tried to root..
I think you overpaid for your paperweight . Yes, I feel a little cruel for making a joke about someone who just lost $600, but you do still have a chance at exchanging it at Sprint. Bricking a phone is every custom rom users worst nightmare, but that's probably your best option. Good luck.
Same Probelm...Sort of
Yeah I did the same thing I think, tried to flash a kernel via cwm, said operation aborted...ok....so I reboot it and now it wont turn on, cant get it in download mode. Weird thing is though when i plug it in to my computer and hold down the power button, while nothing happens to my phone my computer will continuously make the connect disconnect sound like my phone is turning on for a nano second.
and if my phone is plugged in with battery out red charge light comes on, so I know something is going on in there.
any thoughts on how/if I can fix....
Yeah I may be a crook. But I would take the battery out and stick the headset in the microwave for about 3 seconds. You have insurance on it. Do what you got to do. They lie, cheat, and steal every chance they get.

Sorry, you're hard-bricked. As I mentioned in a previous post, your phone is in "qhsusb_dload" mode, which is a Qualcomm firmware flashing mode. If you look in your Device Manager, that's what you'll see your computer is detecting. There's absolutely nothing you can do at this point as no one outside Qualcomm/Samsung has the proper tools/files to recover from this state.

[Q] Is my phoned hard-bricked?

So I went on rooting AT&T SG S III using Toolkit 5.0 from XDA. After running Odin rooting, my phone was unresponsive to the next step. I then unplugged the phone and redid. So now
- cannot go to downloading mode; when hold Volume Up+Home+Power, it vibrates, shows Samsung icon and then black-out
- hold power button and it'll be the same
- computer doesn't recognize the phone whatsoever
So was phone hardbicked? Is there anything I can try?
Had the phone not even a week and now this happened

Continuous reboot. Can it be repaired?

Hi,
My i9300 died one week ago. It suddenly started to reboot. I removed the battery, I tried another. But the moment I plug the battery, the reboots start. The phone shows the "Samsung SIII" initial logo and it restarts. If I try to enter download mode or recovery, it restarts too.
I have searched everywhere, every forum, but I have not found anyone with this problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
is your power button stuck? try adjusting it carefully make sure not to have it pressed.
Sounds like the internal memory is screwed. You say you cant get into download mode?
When it died where you trying to install a custom rom?

[Q] Samsung logo appears on the screen and the phone locks up

Hi
Samsung galaxy s3 GT-i9300 did an auto update and a few hours later the phone shut down and would not restart. When you attempt to restart the Samsung logo appears on the screen and the phone locks up until you either hold down the power button which causes it to reboot and again lock up when the samsung logo appears or remove battery.
Have tried a hard reset by holding the vol home and power buttons but it won’t reset. The only thing it will do is go in to flash custom rom mode.
Has this happened to any of you guys?
Has anyone got any idea what I could do??
P.s the phone is a standard uk sim free phone and it has not been poked with.... no custom roms no root…
Thanks

Hi
i've been through the stickies a few times and if something was relevant to me i either missed it or I didn't understand it.
As i can't get into hard reset by pressing vol up plus home plus power am i right to say i also can't get into the recovery.
i was hoping when that chap mentioned recovery there was a different method of getting there.
the phone is able to only go in to one mode... pressing volume down plus home plus power gets into a os downloading mode.
I tried to use kies with this mode but it doesn't seem to see the phone when connected to usb (pc beeps when phone is plugged in it installs something drivers I think) I was hopping to use recovery firmware in kies..
Any ideas
Thanks

I think the phone comes with 24 month manufacturers warranty in Europe. I need to send mine in too (SDS) and waiting for the "jiffy bag". This is what they sent me "Please ensure that you only send the device itself with the battery, remove all SIM cards/microSD cards and back up any important files." Nothing about the cover but battery seems to be important. The phone cant turn on and I even told them that so I dunno how I'm supposed to back up important files.
