Based on what the Apple announcement said about the increased battery life of iPhone 5, I was disappointed to see that it's not outright better than my Rezound. My GF just got the iPhone 5 and she was watching some youtube videos on LTE for about 10 minutes and the battery drained to 85% from full charge. That's about the same discharge rate as my Rezound.
I thought it was supposed to have good "screen on" time because of how the new display is closer to the glass, or right on the glass or thinner (I forget what the exact spec is).
Not trying dump on the iPhone. I think it's a good phone, but I was really hoping to see great battery life. Perhaps that would push all manufacturers to improve on efficiency and/or capacity.
But who knows, maybe the battery still needs to be broken in after more cycles.
Must be something wrong. I would get an iPhone just for battery.

Nice. Is that 5 hrs mostly screen on time or mixed with screen off while playing music?
I'm suspicious of that "iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge" message. I had older iPhones, and you could drain them almost dead and then charge them almost full and you'd get that message and your stats would not be reset. My original 2G iPhone was the only one I got anywhere close to those kind of numbers on, and I'm not convinced even it would have made that. Show me one that made that amount of time without being plugged in again and I'll be impressed.
That's not mine that was my friends. I plugged it into my computer to authenticate my itunes with his phone for like 5 min. They seriously last a long time...

The display being closer to the glass doesn't (or at least shouldn't as far as I know) have an effect on the power draw. They did that to minimize glare.

It does have an effect in battery life. They combined the digitizer and LCD into one piece, so that's just one less piece the battery has to power, meaning better (albeit very slight) battery performance.
The main reason the iPhone has life like that is because iOS is coded in C. Someone translated android into C and it tripled battery life http://blog.xamarin.com/2012/05/01/android-in-c-sharp/

Because that was already available. Android is kind of a giant kang of Linux, so they swiped a lot of code for it. Also, keep in mind android was one heck of a messy OS before their recent improvements, so I must say that up until ICS, the android team was certainly not owned by some of the smartest people in the world
I just made the switch from my aging 4.0.1 ROM to AOSP CM9 and now my battery life is just absolutely terrible. First time I've ever seen an AOSP ROM drain a phones battery significantly faster than a Sense ROM....

My phone's battery life went to hell after switching to CM9. After 2 and a half hours of mild web/social network/etc surfing, the standard battery dropped from 100 to 33%. Besides the battery issue, it's been running marvelously.
I'm always a bit cheerios as to what firmware people are on when they say that have terrible battery life..
I got around 2 hours on the cm9 rom. On viperrez I get 5-6 hours on LTE tethering.

I actually like the feel of the phone better with the large battery. I've accidentally dropped the stock G1 a few times because it was clumsy to hold, haven't had that problem with the extended case.

We can safely expect our mobile devices in 2020 to be running smaller 10NM dual i-7 processors with 2GB of DDR3 RAM, Nvidea 9800GT technology, HD holographic display, 14MP camera, stereo speakers with small built in subwoofer, AN ACTUAL 3.5MM out, full keyboard [of course], HDMI out [already around on mobile phones...] and perhaps a small built in toaster oven.
Oh, and at a length and width of perhaps an i-Phone and a thickness of a couple credit cards stacked onto each other.

Mine worked fine and a lot of people laughed before i showed them my phone and how i could listen to Pandora ALLL day at work and still have battery lleft while their blackberrys only worked for 1hr max. jaja. but then again, the cases i got were so weak, i went through like 4 extended batt covers in weeks of using it, then i just started using superglue, tape, and not putting it in my pocket. By the way... anyone want to buy these 3 extra ext batteries i got laying around? lmao jk
I have an N1 now but I have 2400 battery for my G1 that I use ever so often. It's funny how people react to it, they are like WTF is that. Once they realize how much I use my phone (the way it was intended) they understand because they have battery issues and I don't; well with the g1 with the N1 that's a different story.
Also I have my g1 taped up to stop the creeking and the fake back I got for extended battery broke so its tapped as well so it looks like a hobo brick

Just wondering if there are any alternate batteries that may work with the Rezound other than the oem battery which comes with the device or the 2750 extended battery offered by Verizon?
I was hoping that possibly the thunderbolt battery or sensation battery was compatible and maybe siedio made a larger than stock battery for those phones I could purchase to get extended battery life without the extended battery girth.
Maybe siedio makes a 1750 or 1800 mah battery like they did for the Dinc.
Thanks in advance!
Better read up on Siedo Batteries .
They are some of the worst rated batteries out there. The 1750 was rated at around 1400. Buy HTC batteries.

I've read that the stock htc batteries for the tbolt work in the rezound but it messes with the battery monitoring.
I'm thinking for myself, I'm going to use my backup t-bolt batteries, and just change them out at about the 3 hour mark. That should give the rezound battery a chance to get back to full. I haven't looked for backup rezound batteries on amazon yet (just ordered the phone today).
I have seen in other threads people said that they believed the tbolt batteries could be used. Maybe they are misinformed? I used a siedio 1750 in my dinc and saw a far superior battery life experience then the stock OEM battery

The batteries are the same physical size, but the rezound doesn't read them properly so the battery gauge would probably be off.
I saw several people that had bad things to say about the seidio batteries on the thunderbolt.

Btw, I recall talks awhile back about how they were planning to modify the transmission towers so that they'd both give us a signal as well as wirelessly keep our phones charged. Would be nice to know what the status is on that.
I didn't know they were doing that. I knew about WiTricity though. I don't think the technology is far enough along yet to implement on such a large scale. They are going to go through health admin scrutiny I imagine.

That's exactly what I was thinking of. You remember the whole deal with people thinking cell phones cause cancer? I wouldn't think the wireless charging would be any different unless a few credible studies show otherwise.

There may or may not be another thread like this, but this is sort of just from my current situation.
Specs: 2750 mAh Lithium Ion (no one cares)
The battery itself is the size of two standard batteries stacked on eachother
Charging: I started charging at about 9 in the morning, still charging at 1 PM
Charge speed really slowed at the 90% mark. So, about 4 hours to charge. All stats recorded after calibration.

Used Pandora for about an hour+, used the internet for 2+ hours, downloaded about 15 apps, uploaded a couple pics (downloaded a couple as well), and ran it overclocked (1.6-1.8 Ondemand Governed) while screen on. (400 Mhz while screen off)
Also texted a lot, made a call, and left it on 4G all day.
Look and feel: Definitely adds some bulk and weight. But the bulk adds a nice grip, but if you're into paper-thin phones, stear clear of this battery. You can see the bump it creates but only if you lay it on its screen, and if it's sitting on the back, it kind of totters (due to arched shape). No beats logo, straight up.
By request, picture of insides.
I'll try and keep this updated if I can think of anything else.
Hope someone finds this useful.
And if anyone has additions, please post them.
Thanks everybody!
I just got my extended battery today. So far I don't mind the bulk even though I cannot use my Otterbox case, so I think I'll use this when I know I'm going to be on the road or tethering.
Is there a different way to post those images of the discharge rate? I'm curious to see how they are. They won't load.

So...if anybody has an otterbox defender case and wants to still use an extended battery, they seem to work well together.
I put the extended battery (and battery cover on, the put the front piece/plate of the otterbox defender case on, then put the otterbox rubber "skin" on. DO NOT use the otterbox back plate...it will not work (extended battery + cover is wrong shape and too thick).
The front piece has all the retention tabs/lips for the skin to "hook on to" (otterbox defender owners will know what I'm talking about) and the overall thickness of the extended battery (and door) offer an almost perfect amount of tension to ensure no slack in the rubber skin. All the holes and buttons on the rubber skin line up perfect, with the exception of the speaker hole....while it is exposed, its a little off-centered (but still works just as good).

Thank you for the review, it helped me make my decision. There were a few days left for the 50% off deal so I went to the store and got the extended battery. Like a few others, I do like the extra bulk. I have big hands so that extra thickness makes the phone easier to hold.
It took a LONG time to charge the first time, I drained it all the way till the phone shutdown, plugged it into a fast charger at 10:30pm (while off) and the light turned green at 6:45am while I was getting ready.

Im confused. Do you have to already own the ipad or does it come with one? If it doesn't come with one can I use the "strong momentum and excellent console protection" on a different device, or perhaps other non-related items such as my cat?
I think I might buy that. Slimmer than the mugen, and it doubles as a portable charger or extender for 35 bucks.
I see one problem with it though, can't take the stylus out with the phone in it.

Actuall i think you can. If you look at the corner there appears to be a gap there. I bet thats an opening to access the s-pen. I went with the super thick super cheap extended battery. $8 for a batter that lasts me a couple days is nice. If you, or anyone else for that matter, gets this please take some pictures for us so we know what we're dealing with in thickness and effectivness. And and let me know if it helps you ipad out any.

I dunno, if you look at picture 4 and 7, it shows the word "IN". 4 looks like where the stylus would be, but on picture 7 its the same spot on the phone just flipped and it shows the USB port for charging it.
Looks like a good alternative for $35. Total charge capacity would be 5500 mAh, assuming all 3000 mAh of the Brando battery can be transferred to the phone. That would be about the same as the Mugen 5400 mAh extended battery.

Ahah...im pretty sure those photos were added or my browser choked and didnt load them last time as I only saw the first photo, and thats why i asked for more pics. I like that it has a kick stand and isnt too thick. I may get one when the price comes down some and if the reviews indicate they are worth buying.

also this sounds like a real PITA:
* Please Charge the Battery Case before Usage.
* Please Charge the Battery Case and Samsung Galaxy Note Separately. (Do Not Charge the Battery Case and Samsung Galaxy NoteAt the Same Time)

It's not a passthrough, so the placement doesnt matter much. The thickness will prevent it from being used it most/all docks. According to the site you must take this off the phone in order to charge it or the phone. I do tons of supplemental charging on and off through the day that this is absurd and out of the question for me. But if you find yourself only charging at night only then this is not likely to be a big issue for you, only you will need to have a second charger at your night stand to charge them both.
see i plug mine in a lot through the day as well... would be nice to see one with pass though charging as well.
Looks cool but I think it would add to much weight and bulk.
not for At&t i717 note?!?
I think the pic is of the unbranded note and it is different enough to not fit at&t model.
I purchased a miikey external 5200 mah(? Not sure of #, but close) and it is like having 3 extra batteries without turning off phone to change out.
cost was: orig. $89.95, i hit a nice sale and got it for $50.oo purchased at at&t store in central nj!
the only thing it is not good for is if you need power when connected to a pc.
my original battery either needs calibration after rooting or i have a defective battery. so, i use this till i can figure out what is going on. prolly needs calibration.
what if the s4 battery fits in the s3 ?
would be great right ? and gonna give us some great battery life especially with 4.2.2
Why not just buy a third party battery specially made for the S3? Or, if you're a fan of having an extreme battery life, buy one of these:

Buy plenty of new or used car batteries, like this one:
and fit them all on the trolley and connect them in a parallel circuit, then connect some sort of transformer so you can connect your phone to it. Carry it with you at all times and your battery will never run dry for as long as you live.
Note. Do not connect them in a series circuit, it has to be a parallel circuit.

Unless Samsung has invented some new battery technology in the past 12 months, the S4 battery will be physically larger than the S3 battery since it has 24% greater capacity (2600 vs 2100 mAh).
Remember that guy who asked if it was possible to physically shorten the battery length? Slappy threw him a pic of a saw and he was like "well yeah that'd work" kinda.

What if you buy the official extended 3000mah battery for the S3 and the battery will last the double. I bought it and I'm not looking back to use the smaller one.

I'm talking about real life results, not on paper mah. You get double the battery life with it.

Well, actually there are some official 1800mA batteries (might have been from galaxy s armani and another phone) that were found to perfectly fit i9000 (stock i9000 battery is 1500mA) - they were slightly heavier and a fraction of a millimeter thicker (which didn't affect the back cover fit). There was also an unofficial 1800mA polarcell battery that was measured to have the full capacity.
Since that is a 20% increase, I believe that a 24% increase is within the realm of possibility. Also remember that the dimensions of the of the S4 are pretty similar to the S3 so they wouldn't be able to squeeze that much more room for the battery. That said, if I were to take a bet I'd guess it will be just a touch bigger.
The only way we can know for sure is if someone measures it though lol. Does anyone have a pic of the back cover so we can see if theres any obvious difference at least?
EDIT: Judging from this picture it's wider http://cdn1.mos.techradar.com///art...ndsOn/Samsung_Galaxy_S4_review_14-900-100.JPG
And this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkwkH6x7lj0
That pretty much concludes this thread I think...
Haha I wish that could work. Sadly I dont think it can..:crying:
