[Q] My Samsung galaxy S3 and Asphalt 7 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is the first time that my phone decided to lock up on me. I was playing Asphalt 7 and finished a level. Everything was perfectly fine then it asked if I wanted to share my score to Facebook. I clicked yes and a browser window opened, then shared my details. After I was done, I close the browser and went back to the game. It was at this point I realized, the game had locked up but the in game music was still playing. I tried to open task manager but nothing worked. Eventually I took my OtterBox off and took the battery out. Putting the battery back in, turn the phone back on and everything is fine. Went back to Asphalt 7 and played for 20 min. or so with no problems. The phone was warm but not overly hot. Is this something I should worry about? I just bought the phone about two weeks ago. Thanks

Nothing wrong with your phone, just make sure you don't have a lot of apps running and taking your ram before you load the game up.

My phone just lost its mind...

It started playing puff the magic dragon while sitting on the table...

guess that's the song of skynet taking over
WTF??? LOL
That's creepy as a mutha! Similar thing happen to me on my photon where I got a notification saying that I "won" an ipad2 but it wasn't from any of my emails, texts or apps! I thought I had gotten a virus or spyware and I checked with avg and lookout but it came back ok.

Phone was just chillin on the table. Next thing i know its playing that song. Creepy as hell.
Had a similar experience three times, a few days apart. Just started playing my music for no reason what so ever.

With mine it was CCR. It happened a few weeks ago, as I recall.
The Gmail app's notification sound had somehow changed to a random MP3 on my SD card. Trippy.
My phone will randomly start ringing. It usually does it at night in between 2-4am. Sometimes it will do it 3 days in a row, or sometimes it won't do it for a week. Haven't found where it's come from. I'm figuring from one of the apps I installed. I did a virus scan but it didn't find anything.
Believe it or not this is caused by a blur app. It was the first thing i removed from skinny.

Force Shutdown

Has anyone ever experience this problem when in the middle of watching a video from a website? Was watching a video yesterday and all of the sudden my Note shutdown and restart on it's own. Wondering if it's the phone or the website?
Also when I restart my phone, at times it can't read apps that are saved in sd and I have to restart it all over again.
Thinking whether I should trade the phone for a new note. I've got 5 days left...

you have to be more specific ? are you rooted? what rom? stock? overclocked? those are crucial in determining errors and reboots!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
All stock. I haven't even decided to root it yet. I was using the stock browser when I was watching the video. But it just came to mind that this isn't the first time this phone rebooted itself without me doing anything to it. The last time it did earlier was when I try to unlock the phone from sleep and it boot itself again.
I should've returned this phone a week ago or so, but I held on to it thinking maybe it might not be the phone but oh well. It keeps doing this crap. I'm returning it today, first thing when the nearest AT&T store opens.

Sim city

I downloaded sim city deluxe and it appears to not be compatible with ics. I'm looking for a similar game, i want an extensive city simulation game. Can anyone point me in the right direction or provide a fix or work around for sim city?
Thanks!

Simcity Deluxe I believe is not compatible with ICS, and I doubt EA will ever update it, unfortunately. Even when it did work on Honeycomb, it crashed all the time. I still have it installed, but it tends to crash about 2 minutes in.
There honestly are no alternatives, just drop and plop games like Virtual City.
I downloaded it on .15 and was not working, but since .21 update yesterday im able to play. Try deleting it and reinstalling it from the market.
I'll try reinstalling it tonight. But that sucks no one has a similar game. I suppose i can always try to find an emulation.

Ok I tried again, and it does works, but sadly the game freezes after about 5 mins of playing the sound keeps going but the screen freezes.
Rebooted to try it on a fresh start and it worked a bit longer, but eventually freezed.
Damn. I wanted this so hard to work. It did on honeycomb but I quickly upgraded and since then it barely got past the first screens.

S3 Switches off??!!

I am increasingly wanting to revert back to my S2 after 2 days of owning the S3, and getting nowhere with syncing and settings, wifi/packet data recognition (or lack of), being able to continuously use apps, motion settings not working for me and keyboard fail!!!
I have been trying to backup the S3 for the last couple of hours to Kies and it seems to be taking its time, however it is still switched on which is a good start I think.
Biggest issue is using the keyboard in the txt message app and in forums/social sites. The keyboard is extremely slow and unresponsive (new issue started today) and then when I hit send/post etc.. the phone screen goes blank and the phone becomes unresponsive. I have had to either remove the battery, replace and switch he phone on or long hold the power button - 7-10 seconds. I don't think this is normal. I am yet to root the phone but I'm too scared to in case I brick it. Yesterday it randomly switched off but today it is not only random but when I try to post anything.
Motion settings are enabled (major feature I chose it for) and they're not working either.

don't cry. just return the set. what you are facing is absolutely not a normal situation. You have got a faulty set. just return it instead of rooting or trying roms etc.

Really thinking I might have to, but it was painstaking to sync all data, apps, photos etc from the S2. I was hoping it was an issue with not having day/sleep mode settings? Or some other simple issue that I've over looked

Definitely a faulty device return ASAP

ignoring such simple settings don't result in such a mess. If the set is in warranty then let Samsung take care of it instead of you going through the trouble. If motion sensors are enabled but not working then it may be a hardware issue (faulty gyroscope).

First thing to do: factory reset!
Then do not restore anything from your S2 and see if you still have these issues
-if you still have these issues: faulty device to return
-if your issues are gone: something went wrong when you restore from S2
I would like to add that if you have everything enabled you will get lag and freezes, try disabling some of the features...face awake, some of the motions etc, usually it is just a matter of setting up your phone right, it only has a certain amount of ram and all those fancy novelties use it up
In the middle of a factory reset. Only took 4 hours to back up the device. I'll try to disable some features and post an update with how I go. I really appreciate the advice

I think something went wrong with Kies. I uninstalled then reinstalled the program, rebooted the phone and slowly backed up only photos and contacts and everything is running ok now. Thanks for all the help and advice!

I tried to speak to the 'tech' in the Telstra shop and even while I was there it switched off and they had no clue, only offering advice of removing the battery and restarting the phone :what:
Figured I was best speaking to real experts...

Possible solution for crashes.(disable Force 2D GPU)

I think we are all having nightmares with these random reboots/crashes. Some people say that they get these problems only with browsers but many of us get random reboots or system crashes doing random stuff like uninstalling an app.
I thought maybe it's one of the dev options so I tried disabling Force 2D GPU option and I have not have any problems since. I want people to try this and see if you still get any reboots or crashes. The solution could be easier than we thought.
Mine has been disabled for a few days, but still getting the random reboots/ freezes.
Every time mine resets once it comes back on it starts updating apps. Not sure if that happens to everybody else. Or if it is even related.
Mine had restarted a couple of times while using chrome. Once while in gallery. Other than that it's been really smooth sailing. It never started updating apps after a restart though, possibly timing? However you did say it has happened a few times so not sure.
Had a random reboot the first time I turned it on with the original software version but haven't had a reboot since. Not sure what the reason was to begin with but seems to have been resolved with software update

I've been getting random reboots the whole time. I'm sure it will get ironed out with some updates just got to wait 15 seconds for it to reboot lol

Hasn't happened to me with the few resets I've had.
Finally happened to me 2x today after updating to 4.2.1. Had 4.2 the first 2 days I had the tablet and didnt have reboots. My reboot happened while playing Nova 3 and NFS Most wanted. Game froze and speaker gave a buzzing sound for 5-10 seconds then rebooted.

+1 Mine has only restarted a couple of times, but it always updates at least 2 apps after restarting.

I think the updating apps might just be a play store check right after boot. If you know an app to be updated but haven't checked play store, try resetting your device, you might see it do that same thing.
Of course, I might be wrong, mine froze twice after finishing installing an app (dropbox the first time and a game the second)
I am suddenly getting a bunch of reboots and I really can't understand how or why. I can not uninstall any program else it will reboot instantly. is there any solution?
I don't get why people are still posting random solutions with placebo effects. It's been found using logs from crashes that it's due to the location services. That's why people initially thought it was HD Widgets, because they use location services for weather. That's why it still happens after a factory reset...
So do you have a solution ?

I seem to have issues when using Google products. I do NOT use chrome. An example, earlier tonight setting up a different Google wallet account my N10 froze and rebooted again. It was doing well for a while. (no chrome, no background sync in currents, no HD widgets) until 3 days ago. Now I am getting about one a day. Makes me mad, because it ran well for about 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary since then. I have had it set up the way I like since I got it on the 21st of Nov. (Lucky to get one on opening day 32gb.) I will have just shut off force rendering in developer options. I will post back here in a few days to report my findings. I hope this is a fix!! I believe it may be that, I did enact FR a bit ago but not sure when...
freezing and rebooting
I've tried everything and still keep getting the random reboots and yesterday my table started freezing a lot wasn't having that problem before it's frustrating
this was my first Nexus device and will be my last i sold my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for this one and it's been nothing but headaches i've already replaced two tabs and i'm on my third becasue google keeps telling me to replace the unit and i asked them about a fix and tech support told me they were not aware of any issues can you believe that BS i'm very dissappointed with this device Samsung built a great tab for google and google messed it up. I really don't know if i can wait for a software fix. Feel like taking the tab and smashing it.
Uninstall Facebook you guys
I've no crashes with paranoid android and that manta kernel (plus, i'm overclock and undervolted)
Location is totally disabled for me.. Don't need it anyways..
No crashes.. I could show a weeks worth of on time if I wanted to

I just had a crash while playing Chaos Rings. The device buzzed and five seconds later rebooted. I crash two or three times a day, usually in the browser.
