Unroot - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im getting bored on being on stock after trying my old SGS on Jellybean now.. It feels faster than my GSII that has 2 CORES! 1,2 ghz. Incredible what developers can do it's simply amazing.
One thing im getting really tired off and irritated is the sound when your battery is low
DY DY real loud im like SHUTUP before i throw you in the wall.
And can't even use the camera when low battery without 3rd party app.
Can i unroot the phone? So it gets exactly like before if i regret or phone breaks and warranty **** or something ( TEST OFFICIAL 4.1) I
And i heard if you upgraded to 4.0.4 and root it was dangerous and you couldn't get life on the phone just because you wiped data etc. even a USB Jig couldnt help. And a triangle were somewhere hmm.
Is it hard to unroot?
Is it worth rooting if im going to unroot to test official 4.1?
Sorry for swearing but i had a ******* bad day.. =)

1. It's very easy to unroot
2. It's your phone, you can test whatever ROM you want
3. Yes, 4.0.4 stock firmware is dangerous after rooting but we know how to tame it.

I'm absolutely not going to stay on stock if i root 4.0.4 and flash 4.1.1 rom is that dangerous?
If yes, how to tame it?
Are you going to sell your gs2 or are you keeping it?

Yes, but because you are on Samsung's 4.0.4 firmware, I'll advise you to flash either Speedmod kernel or Siyah kernel via Odin.
Download the .tar Odin version of one of the kernels and flash via Odin
Speedmod kernel: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574218
Or
Siyah kernel: www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/09/08/siyahkernel-s2-v4-1/
Edit: I'm going to keep my Galaxy SII for a while

Dont let him worry you, the firmware itself is fine. The issue was a bug in kernel that was causing bricks after wiping data via recovery.
You simply flash a custom kernel like Siyah after flashing rom to get rid of problem.
Plenty of topics on how to root/flash roms.

Ok, is it just of flash the siyah tar and im rooted? was harder on S1
Will i have the triangle problem?
And which ODIN version do i need, where can i download it? Thanks for the help :fingers-crossed:

1. If you flash Siyah or Speedmod kernel .tar, you are rooted
2. You will have yellow triangle but you can remove it with Triangle away app by Chainfire:

3. Download Odin here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

So all i have to do is:
Put phone to download mode. open odin connect usb:
Put in SIYAH tar in PDA and im rooted? Just like that? You don't think i'll brick it? I must not flash CF-ROOT before i flash Siyah?
And must i delete the triangle? What happens if not?

Yes. You are rooted just like that.
You don't need to flash CF-ROOT kernel.

Nothing bad will happen but if your phone is still under warranty, then I'll advise you to remove.
Actually, there is no reason for you not to remove it, since there is an application that can do that for you.

Why not i mean isnt the warranty already gone if rooted &/ flashed rom?
What application?

If you want to claim warranty, you just flash your original firmware via Odin.

If you are already rooted using CF-ROOT kernel, then trying to use a non-kernel method again, is both hilarious and time wasting.
If flashing Siyah kernel is your priority, in order to overclock, then let's go straight to the point

I assume from the information given above:
1. You are presently on ICS 4.0.3 xxlpj firmware.
2. You rooted your phone via non-kernel method and your phone was rooted.
3. You did not ROOT your phone by flashing CF-ROOT kernel, contrary to what you claimed in your first and second posts
3. Anytime you flash Siyah kernel image via mobile Odin, your phone is stucked on boot.
Please correct me if I'm wrong or missed anything

You just did a clean installation and you are rooted via non-kernel method. Good.
Do you have a temporary CWM recovery?

Hi, i just got a new s2 on orange, plugged it into kies and it updated to 4.0.4. I want to root this phone to get rid of all oranges annoying bloatware but have just read somewhere about the latest update causing phones to hard brick. Has anybody rooted their s2 after the 4.0.4 official upgrade and if so can you please give me a link to the kernel i need, build is BVLPC. thanks in advance

[Q] Need help, sim disappeared and system strangely behaving

Hello, my first post here. In february I modified my phone (swedish) and it has all been working ok up until yesterday. Well actually for the last couple of weeks the battery has started running hot and draining fast. But yesterday the sim disappeared and I can get no connection, it even gets stuck when I put it in flight mode.
So I figured I should update things in the best way, but how to go about it. I used guides to get it done last time but I have forgotten most of that and I would be very grateful for help to proceed. I need a stable system only, no clocking etc.
Greetings/ Roger

if ur rooting ur phone and trying to install a custom rom then there is no point in updating to the latest stock version
if u want to continue with stock, then its good to update it to the latest version
To clarify, I see a 4.0.4 for nordic countries at the same place where the 4.0.3 was. So would it be safe to upgrade it to 4.0.4 using Odin?Or is 4.0.4 a whole different matter? Cheers

before doing factory reset u can backup ur phone with KIES
Dont upgrade to 4.0.4, until you aren't aware of emmc Superbrick Bug

Ok many thanks. Will upgrade using Odin because Kies does not recognize the phone, crap software that I think.

[Q] Galaxy S2 bricked after wipe data/factory reset

Hello everyone,
I rooted my Galaxy i9100 S2 using the SU Busybox method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 ) with a view to installing cyanogenmod CM9. I installed CWM recovery and successfully rooted the phone. It rebooted and I had the Superuser app.
Then, I entered CWM recovery to install the CM9 rom. After I selected the option to Wipe data/factory reset, the phone started wiping the data and then it suddenly turned itself off. Now it will not turn itself on, nor will it charge. Basically, nothing is displayed on the screen. I tried all methods available, from trying to enter recovery mode to doing a soft reset, and nothing happens.
I was running on the stock Samsung Android ICS ROM. I didn't get to install a custom ROM, and the root went well, as I was able to boot successfully after that.
Why do you think this happened? Do you have any advice for me ?
Thanks a lot !
If you had 4.0.4 stock samsung ics with brick bug you can say good bye to your phone. . .

Were you on ICS 4.0.4? If so, and you have used wipe data/factory reset with the stock CWM, I think you may have been hit by the infamous eMMc brick bug. I believe the only fix is a replacement motherboard or Samsung Repair Centre.

Yes, I was running on the 4.0.4 Can I install the motherboard myself ? I am pretty handy with computers...
Motherboard replacements are possible yes. I'm not sure where you can purchase one. I'm handy with computers myself but I don't think I would want to replace it myself. I'm just wondering because I remember reading somewhere that Samsung said something like they would help fix phones hit by the brick bug because it was their fault. Don't hold me to that, but also because you were on stock ICS, Samsung may repair it if it's still in warranty of course.

Have you tried Entering Download Mode... Uf its not then its super brick emmc bug...
Now you cam try usb jig if that dont work them motherboard replacement is only thing left

Well aren't you nice. I know the brick bug has had so much publicity but you shouldn't expect an official ROM from Samsung to brick your phone.

Not in a bad mood bro. In fact my team just won.
The thing is, I'm always not so happy with people bricking their phone when it was avoidable in the first place. That warning thread was made sticky for some reason.
You know we always warn people about the stock 4.0.4 kernel, but some of them like the OP will always blame Samsung for their own error as if Samsung wanted them to flash a custom ROM in the first place.
It's just not good enough!

I didn't know I have to search the whole forum before doing a wipe. It's not an uncommon procedure...
Anyway, I took it to my local Samsung service. The phone is still under warranty, so the guy said it might take a few days but it will be free. The guy also said they have had a few instances like this.
When I get the phone back, can I flash a 4.0.3 stock rom, and then wipe data/factory reset ? I really want CM9 (the latest version, with 4.0.4) installed on it, as I like the stock android feel...

Yes.
If you have any confusion about the brick bug stuff, you can ask questions now so that when your phone returns, this kind of thing will never happen again.

Don't worry, the insane chip will only cause a brick when you try to wipe data/factory reset when using the stock CWM on 4.0.4 ROM's. Your on 4.1 so your fine.
As for the bugs concerning CM10, please remember that they are still in nightly and no Release Candidate has been made yet.
If you have any concerns, drop a message in the CM10 thread, someone will be able to help you better there.

[Q] [HELP] Did something STUPID

Hey guys, I have a S2 (4.0.3) which was rooted. So I'd got a update today which said it was a small change so i thought it would be 4.0.3 still with root access.. Well after i updated my android went to 4.0.4 and my rooted as went gone!
So my question is how can I root my phone again or delete SuperSU
My kernel version: 3.0.15-1056084 [email protected] #3
and baseband: I9100XXLQ6
I coudn't find my kernel to re-root it I used the root app from: lyriquidperfection
Stop asking silly questions that have already been asked over and over again. If you want an answer use the search button, plenty of topics on how to root.
You should also watch this XDA video...

Well, my phone is just working as it does so not bricked. But the problem is i can't root because i can't find a insecure or secure kernel for my phone ..
If you want root, I suggest you to flash Siyah Kernel.

Allright, allright just to make it clear..
I'm about to Root my S2 (4.0.4) included with superSU but no root. I'm using this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
But got just one question. After i installed cwm and rooted it, am i available to unroot by just going on SuperSU and choosing unrooting option?
Because i don't want a root anymore on 4.0.4 ..

If you don't want to root anymore then don't ROOT at all.
If you want to root, simply flash a custom kernel via Odin. I recommend Speedmod or Siyah kernel

But just one more question i know i'm kinda noob haha.. But if i flashed a custom kernel like Siyah (and deleted the .apk) am i available to update upcoming updates no problems after that right?

1. If you flash a custom kernel, you will still have root but you will be 100 % safe from the brick bug. You can still get updates
2. If you are only rooted, it will not brick your device. So there is no need to unroot
3. The most important thing is:
DON'T USE CWM RECOVERY , unless you've flashed a custom kernel
