How is the file called? It downloads a ~230mb file (signed-nbx03_007-ota-120803058.zip). Is that the right one? And if not, how do I get it?
After downloading I just need to use the AIO methods to decrypt and resign and flash, right?
It is Rootable!
Just got the OTA, updated. Lost the root. Rooted it again with this method

No headaches, just took less than 5 minutes in total. Ignore the errors and follow the procedure, easy as anything.

That is the r1a ota. At this stage it is for US region only, you can change to US region to install though.... It is still 100% rootable using custom method, well the US release anyway. Correct to be safe you could create the custom update.zip using AIO

I updated to 4.0.3(release5) and i can't root the Tablet now
hi, i just bought sony tablet S from singapore, I need assistance for rooting this tablet. First of all i've already tried all of the tricks that are mentioned in this forum, but i got no result . May be i've been doing something wrong even i followed step by step instructions.
My Tablet info is :
Android Version :
2.6.39.4
[email protected]#1
Build Number
TISU0R0410110
maybe somebody can give me some clue which tool to use to root this tablet.
Factory Reset the Tab first and then try again !

Initially I too found it difficult to root once i upgraded to 4.0.3 (r5)
Here's what I did.
1. Backup all ur data, and factory reset the tab, preferably with erase USB option checked.
2. Download Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry
3. Once ur tab is reset, complete the initial setup, go to settings, and make sure USB debugging (Developer Options), Unknown Sources (Security) is checked
4.Now to run Bin4ary's script, follow the instructions given in this video tutorial.
5. Instruction for rooting the tab appear from 6:00mins after start of the video.
6. Though the video shows instructions for Xperia Tablet S, the method for the older Sony Tablet S is the same. The only catch being which version of the script to use. As I've mentioned in this thread before, v10 of Bin4ary's script did the job for me.
7. If all the steps are followed as shown in the video, you will be able to root your tablet successfully.
Don't forget to thank WonderEkin for translating the rooting method from japanese, and also Bin4ry for making the rooting procedure so much simpler through his script !!
Good luck with rooting ur tab mate !

Do you not get a software update notification if you have it check for updates under settings.
You can always flash an ftf for your specific region with what ever version you want.

Sony Xperia S Build 6.0.A.3.62
i have the build 6.0.A.3.62 with android 2.3 gingerbread. i have unlocked the bootloader but don't know how to test if it is unlocked or something else is still required. after unlocking the bootloader, when i powered up the phone, it was like i just bought the phone. it gave me those 9 steps to follow in order to setup internet connection, google account sync, etc. so how do I know if bootloader is unlocked on this phone?
now I'm dying here to root the phone lol. its been 20 hours i've been messing with the phone. right in this thread pratyush suggested to download the flashtool. but when i goto the flashtool website to download the latest version, the link is broken. file not found.
so i'm just wondering if someone can give step-by-step instructions for the build 6.0.A.3.62 and help me to root this device please. would appreciate your help a lot.
thanks for the help ppl ..

the latest one for my phone is 6.1.A.0.452 but all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with 452 build? will i have to unlock the bootloader again after updating my phone to ics? i'm really a newbie and stupid when it comes to playing with electronic devices. but i can follow instructions accurately. sony gives a warning while upgrading that i wont be able to go back to 2.3 if i upgraded to ics. so all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with present software build 62 or will it be better to upgrade and then root the phone on build 452?
please advise. thank you for your help.

You can go back to 2.3 just fine by flashing a ftf. There are a couple different methods to root ics. One needs an unlocked bootloader (flashing prerioted system image) the other does not (flashing multiple times while running some batch files). Both methods have posts in the dev section.

Easiest way is to unlock the booloader and flash the prerooted system.img you can then relock the bootloader if need be. That's for both ICS and GB.

ok .. so i thought to do a factory reset on the phone settings > privacy > factory reset
it did factory reset and then i tried to upgrade the software. same thing ... it says, upgrade cant be done because the phone has modified software. i guess i will have to keep 2.3 gingerbread and then try to root the software. am i running out of options?

Hi,dude.
I think you haven't done enough search here on XDA,though there are really too many information to absorb all at once.
There is a great guy,akshay13071990,posting a Guide and I truly recommend you to take a look.:good:
As for rooting your phone on firmware .62,you have to flash back to firmware .42 or .56,and root it ,then update to .62 again.
It's kind of vexing. But if you want to have a rooted phone on .62(Gingerbread),that's it.
Or if you haven't unlocked your bootloader, maybe you could update to Sony's official ICS via PCC.
Good luck.

Sorry I forgot to mention that if you have unlocked the bootloader,do not update your phone via official ways such as PCC or OTA.
Because it may brick your phone.

That's why you need to read the guide. It is explained there -.-
anyway:
Flashing firmwares with flashtool:
Install FlashTool.
Go to your flashtool folder, and place the .ftf file in the folder "firmwares".
Turn off your phone.
Now open flashtool.exe> click the thunder icon> select flashmode> adsp.sin should be selected> click ok. Wait till it asks you to connect the phone.
When it does, hold down the -DOWN- volume button while connecting, to enter flashmode (the LED should turn green).
The flashing will commence.
After that, disconnect and turn on your phone.
I believe Flashtool allows you to root the phone without having to unlock your bootloader or flash a separate kernel.
I used this topic to root, it is a little quicker :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701357

For full features you'll need root. But I think it'll still work without root, though limited.
When rooting, you don't loose data.

Hi guys,
If you want to have root, and be able to use decrypt/custom
preroot/flash custom functions on Sony Tablet S / Xperia Tab with new firmwares,
then DO NOT update directly to R5/R5A!
since R5 and future releases are shell disabled in recovery.
since R5A new root method with restore is not possible.
Sony Tablet S users - use AiO to make prerooted custom firmware,
with hidden.img replaced to still-vulnerable one!
Or if you dont want to make one for yourself, just wait for me
to make and upload custom fw's for wifi and 3g versions - HERE.

Tablet s wit 4.0.3R5 recovery v36 to 4.0.3R5a with root ?
Hello everybody,
I have a tablet S, with version 4.0.3R5 with Recovery v 36 and it's showing the update to r5a...
I'd like to root it, and get the update to make vpn work again (r5a).
I've read in STIFILZ FAQ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828107) that it's rootable with condi's AIO tool, but how I can get r5a with root if I've already have recovery v 36 ?
In the same FAQs, I've seen this:
Q. I have 4.0.3R5 rooted and want to downgrade to something else
A. When you install R5 OTA or flash normal file the recovery is 'upgraded' you will not be able to use AIO to pre-root future updates nor flash them. You can still root using the ICS method (if it is still current for the update. You can however flash either ICS or ICS R1A by lowering your incremental and manually flashing through recovery. Or see below for condi's amazing solution.
Q. I want 4.0.3R5 rooted and don't want the stupid new recovery
A. See this post here.
-- Now with double flash (flashes both system0 & system1)
But I cant' figure out how to do it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
Thanks a lot !!!

My bad, I had not updated the FAQ yet (thought no one was using it, but glad to see some are)
Update reads:
Q. I want 4.0.3R5 rooted and don't want the stupid new recovery
A. See this post here.
-- Now with double flash (flashes both system0 & system1)
UPDATE: Now you can also use FLASHER

Thanks Stifilz, your FAQ is allways my first stop, its saves me reading all the posts...
I think the link you put in "FLASHER" its wrong, I believe the right one is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050126&highlight=flasher
I'll try now to root and flash with this tool...
UPDATE: The root worked like a charm, then I used the flasher. It downloaded all the files, and prompted me to select wich hidden image to use. I've selected R1 since its the last with adb support. When it finished I entered recovery and I still see version 36, it's ok ? In the windows device manager I see a "sony" device with no drivers, I've tried the ones with ADB and AIO but it does not recognizes them....
thanks !

Yeah, same here - I'd love to know if there's any progress on either rooting R5A or downgrading from R5A to something already rootable...
is there any update on how to achieve this ?
if you already OTA the update

Hey guys, i have managed to root my Sony Tablet S (sgpt111gb/s) with the KingRoot app which you can download from the link below. You download APK on your device and install it as you would do normally and just run it and watch the show! I have to say that latest version of KingRoot DID NOT WORK with ver. 4.0.3 r5a currently installed on my tablet s but i've downloaded ''kingroot_global'' (link below) and it worked like a charm! My Sony Table S is now rooted
P.S. THIS ALSO WORKS FOR ALL OTHER ANDROID TABLETS/PHONES!
Link: kingroot dot net download or look for version 4.9.6_C151_B299....:good:

First thing read the stickies in the general section here, everything you need is there
But here goes again:
Read this thread first (Downgrade thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918 then Lordmanhattan's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
You will probably want to flash a 290 or 136 ftf first off, this should restore your imei and calling etc
Then Downgrade to .532 using the thread above
Root the phone with the tool by Bin4ry also mentioned in the downgrade thread
Then you will want to back up the TA partition - see LordManhattan's thread
Then unlock the bootloader if you can and want to - see Lord's thread again
Then you can flash the latest FTF for your model
Once bootloader is unlocked we just have to flash a kernel with recovery (see jackie's or ChillyChan's threads)
Once you have recovery flash SuperSu update from there
All done
thank you

Hi,
I initially installed update 15.1630.1902.90 to my phone and after that it ruined the perspective control of my ROG while using the mobile desktop dock. I tried installing the previous version via sideload but to no avail.
Can anyone share the step by step on how to install stock ROM to our phone? or downgrade from the previous version of the firmware?
Thank you.
Just place the firmware in the Root Directory of your phone & reboot, this is given that your not rooted & have a locked bootloader.

I don't think you can downgrade. I would post this on the support forum:
