It is an sd card error
Back up al important files on external sd on other device and format your sd from setting... Everthing should be fixed... If not try remove external sd and reboot but first suggestion should work

Download "Rescan Media Root" from market.
Run the app for few minutes to trigger the scanner process.

1. Remove your external SD.
2. Run the app again.
- disable media scanner, exit the app
- Run the again, and enable media scanner.
3. If it's showing properly now, then re-insert your SD card, then retest again.
Ps:
Backup the contents of your SD card on your Pc, just in case.

Wait let me get this straight.
1) i reboot phone without doing anything and first it shows preparing usb at notification area.
2) Then it shows checking sd cards error.
3) By right it should show media scanner running too but it didnt and when i press gallery straight away it fc with media scanner running and my video wont show my video in sd card.
It is suppose to run media scanning in background without notifying in ics rom? Because i remember it should show in notification area after checking sd card error and after i leave it for a few minutes( yes really a few minutes and not seconds) all my media in sd card showes up and no more fc with media scanner in gallery. Is this how it suppose to work?

It means the sim isn't inserted/isn't recognised. Remove it, give it and the connector a quick clean/blow (Ha!) and it should be fine.
Its not the sim card. Its the memory card symbol.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
nope. just wont go away.
Do you have an external sdcard inserted? Check if its mounted, visible in file manager.
Are all sdcard, internal & usb (mounted), and external, visible in CWM Recovery when connected to pc?
Check, menu / settings / storage / unmount & mount again
Power off and reinsert, checking the contacts on card and phone are ok and not obstructed.
FULL format card in pc fat32 default allocation. Edit: backup contents first.

Thanks for your replies.
it is definitly not the Memory card, as i removed it and turned on the phone, and as soon as i make a phone call and hang up, this weird icon appears in the status bar.
On a sidenote, this has started happening once i swapped my simcard because i changed carriers.
Can you try another sim, maybe a friends? Maybe sim itself?

[Q] Google Music App Stops Working

Problem: Google Music closes after about 2 minutes of putting the phone into sleep mode or clicking the button to turn off the screen. I cannot figure out how to allow the app to continue to run while in sleep mode.
The phone is not rooted and I am running stock everything. I also do not have a microSD card would that matter?
Please advise.
Does anyone know if google music has to use a microSD card?

Did you accidentally add the application to the auto-end in the Task Manager app? I had a heck of a week traveling until I found my goof-up in doing this.
Nope I removed it and tested it again still didn't work. Could it be because of the moto.blur stuff?

I hate saying this, but "It works for me" applies here. I know I have some bad files uploaded to GM, which causes the program to crash from time to time.
Hmm do mine sharing exactly what you did? Maybe I can figure it out from there?

I have tried different roms. I have superwiped my sd card and formatted my external card. I have flashed the stock ICS firmware and then tried flashing from that. I have tried to use System Tuner from the market to freeze or disable some of the responsibilities of downloads, downloads, sec.android.providers.downloads, drm content manager and it just seems to make other things not work like the market or downloading files.
I don't know what else to do but I cannot seem to shake this battery drain...please help!!!

Better Battery Stats is installed. I plugged and unplugged and now I'm letting it gather its stats. I have to go to work and so that will allow the 1-4 hours to compile a proper dump and I will attempt to post it here. Thank you again for taking the time to help me.

My worst is network location locator that drains my battery, only just installed bbs yesterday so not sure what all the wakelocks mean or alarms or anything else.
I know media is your downloads and you probably have your apps on auto update.
Doesn't have many instructions.
You must have a very low screen setting for 20% mine is at least at 70 and that's when I have it on auto brightness

You have the media scanner bug. There is no real cure but formatting the external sd card can help.
The simplest solution is just to force close it. It should not return until you reboot .
It's a Samsung issue so until they fix it we just have to live with it

I did format it and started from scratch but it is still being a *****, lol. However, I installed bbs and after 4 hours of it runnning while at work it reset itself for some reason and doesn't show me a log. But I plugged and unplugged and seem to be having some drain but not as much.

Sorry was late here when I posted, I should have explained.
Run the app from the app drawer, hit the disable Media Scanner button. This will kill the media scanner everytime you reboot (if you are roorted, assume you are). To rescan for media just open the app and then close it.
Check after a reboot to make sure Media is not chewing up the battery. It works for me under JB and also did under GB.
If you use Tasker you should be able to achieve the same thing. So you could just kill that process with Tasker and either run it and kill it at certain times or the author of the above also has an app just called Rescan Media which you could just run via tasker at a given time interval. Personally never found the need but I guess it depends on how much media you actiually hold on your device etc...

MediaScannerService wakelocks

Hello,
The following happened to me:
I changed my rom to 4.1.2 jb from 4.1.1 and on the new rom I had crazy battery drain and the phone went hot so I thought about the media wakelock. Now I changed back to the old Rom (cwm image) but since I restored my image the battery also seems to drain faster. Bbs shows me 8m42s MediaScannerService wakelock. I've put the other information in the attachments. Can anyone tell me if these stats look normal? 5.8%/h seems like a big drain for me with or am I just freaking out? I'm almost sure that I had much better battery life before...
Can someone tell me how to get rid of the problem? Should I reinstall the rom? I'm using wanamlite 4.2.1 right now.
Cheers matt

Hey, I've been getting the same issue. I Reading up it seems we've got a choice of two options to fix -
1) Download something to stop the media scanning of SD card - the 'rescan media' app is one option I've seen but as this stops media scanning all together you need to re enable when adding new media so not a long term solution if you like your tunes
2) remove SD card, back up everything, reformat it, stick media back, add SD Card back into phone, and no more scanning issues. Pain in backside but should fix the issue.
Obviously someone will correct me if I've got it wrong...
I'm talking about the internal sd card. I guess I have to back up the stuff and format it too, right?

Please use rescan media app from play store it works really well phone has been on for over 10 hours and media scan service has only been on 23 seconds
im what Willis was talking about
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.
Ok, rescan media app was clear as mud to use and didn't appear to keep settings after reboot so spent a couple of hours backing up, reformatting & reloading SD card yesterday and it's made a massive improvement with media scanner service wakelocks dropping to seconds rather than closer to hours.

So u think reformatting the internal sd card helps? I don't want to use an other media scanner app

I figured why the media scanner was freaking out: it was the new titanium Backup format with blobs. In the blobs folder were about 3700 files and that was probably the issue.
I changed the backup format in cwm to tar but I also read that adding a ".nomedia" file to the titanium Backup or blobs folder might work in case you are doing and having many backups.
Now Bbs says 1 min media scan at boot and that's it

Weird issue on boot.

So on my S4 I have a weird issue on boot. Sometimes the Samsung logo will sit there for a minute, sometimes 15 seconds. The phone will always boot in the OS though. Its happened on two different Roms.
Any reason it may be doing this?

External memory card issue? You can rule it out by 'unmounting SD', removing your SD card, and re-boot.

Alternatively (or before doing this), you could try to boot in Safe Mode:
1. Switch off your phone completely.
2. Power it on again.
3. Now continuously keep pressing the left key.
4. Keep pressing the key until the boot is complete and the home screen appears.
If the device boots fine in Safe Mode then it's possible that an app you installed is configured to launch at startup but not functioning properly.
I doubt this is the case, since most apps that autostart do so after boot, but it's one final thing you can check before doing the wipe.
