[Q] Android NAND Install problems - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

Hi, think I know a bit of what I'm doing, read all I could, etc.
W7 laptop, SD SD with HP format, RHOD100.
(Can get serial # from Nexus 7 with ADB install, can reflash WM from SD, etc)
USB cable to computer.
I can 'flash' (update image) new Android RHODIMG.NBH to phone, I get filled progress bar, and then Update Complete, UPDATE SUCCESS and phone will not cut off (stuck in bootloader?) I do manual reset button.
Then I can 3 finger reset (SEND, END, + ON) to get tri-color, and then VolUp option. (So far, this is just like WM reflash) I push VolUp.
Screen goes to "Restore... Waiting for completed" and unfilled progress bar - and that's it. At this point, other resets can get me tricolor with USB, white HTC with NO radio, version, etc, and this waiting screen.
(I can use same process and get right back to WM.)
Where is my error?
THANKS!!

You can't flash Android with USB. SD is the only way to flash the NBH for Android.

Do you see the blue boot loader screen?

(I've also got the image for android on SD, just not getting there...)
I never get a completely blue screen (get tri-color), I go exactly as far as I mentioned - 2nd progress bar with no progress.
Using these instructions and downloaded files... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566955 stuck at step 10 or 11 or so.

Did you unlock your phone?

Unlocked long ago, olinex or something similar. Been trying various roms for years with no problems, played with SD android for awhile, wanted to try NAND.
I have good SDK, etc, put image on SD, phone finds it, first loading bar looks great, reboot, second loading bar never starts.
Do you guys never see 2nd progress bar ("Restore... Waiting for completed") - is my fault before that? Is there a better set of instructions that what I'm using?

So you flash the NBH... and it's never flashed successfully? Not sure what you mean by "second progress bar"... there's only one when you flash the NBH via SD.

OK - now we're talking!
I definitely see a second progress bar that never starts under "restore, waiting for completed" on a whitish screen as above.
Is the RHODIMG.NBH from that instruction set the correct one?
I will try downloading again and moving to SD again in case of file fault.
THX for helping...

I guess I'm still not following.
Have you ever flashed via SD? The process is really quite simple. Just place the RHODIMG.nbh file at the root of the SD, and put the phone in bootloader mode. It should pickup the file and offer to start the flash.

Yes, and since I tried this I have also successfully flashed back to WM by SD, numerous times now.
I am not successful at flashing and then loading the small .nbh for Android
Am trying new download now...

So to get things straight, you downloaded this file and put it on the SD. Now when you load it, you won't be able to get it to load using the recovery. Recovery is for Windows original files only as far as I get that.
Instead you just press and hold the volume down button while powering on the device. After you see the tri-coloured screen you can let go. You will get prompted with a white screen. On this you'll see:
Now the rhodimg.nbh is detected and by pressing the power button you can flash it. (or press volume down to cancel and return to the tri-coloured screen) After it said OK/Succesfull you remove the battery or press the reset button, after this there's no further steps, you just let it power on and you get a BLUE screen with some white texts called the LK bootloader / minipooploader by [ACL]
Here's a short instruction video to explain what I typed.

Al - THX for joining in!
That's the file (only one I can find), I do exactly as described, but at "battery or press reset" I get a white HTC (like would have 4 files listed on WM) that cuts off after 4 seconds, a three button push gets me a reload with no progress.
I made films...
files on SD - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbK8aWh9378&feature=youtu.be
process - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01Uq1dqtydE&feature=youtu.be
that show reset and 3 button reset (USB in here, same USB out) (Also, fresh solo Task 29 from RUU advanced...)
Any clues anyone?
(Could RHODIMG.NHB be bad on server?)

Not sure why you are doing a hard reset after you load the android NBH. Skip that.
Just let it load.

The instructions and post 11 above indicate reset.
I'm trying just leaving it at the Update Complete UPDATE SUCCESS progress bar now....
Nope - that just sits there after RHODIMG.nbh - OK, OS - , and UC/US,...

Just a regular reset, not a hard reset is what I think they are meaning. I have lost count of the number of times I have loaded android onto my device, and I have never ever done a hard reset after the initial nbh load.
When I load android on my rhod400 it always hangs at the update success screen from the initial nbh load. Try just popping out the battery (and putting it back in) and letting it boot normally after you see the update success screen from the android nbh. You should get to a blue boot loader screen.

That (simple on or reset button) after android.nbh success gets me:
a white screen with HTC (that would normally [WM] fill in with b,r,s,something - 4 ?file versions) for 4-6 seconds, and then off and blank. Battery yellow will cycle 80% on. Subsequent on times out (HTC white) and off as above.
Have you loaded recently with the current file?

Unless you're using some old file, yes I have flashed recently. Just flashed a TP2 the other day...

That's where you're getting all your NAND downloads from yes? Please ensure you have the newest stuff. This part is really the "easy" part. Just need to be SPL unlocked, then flash .nbh via SD. Seriously, that's the easy part... the hard part is getting your computer to recognize the phone in fastboot mode, and flash the recovery image - that's the step I always seem to have issues with.

This is an video from a Rhod 210, but it gives you a good idea what to expect. Useful info starts around 7:00.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qNCHqGPofI

Redid it all - exactly per video... fresh downloads. etc...
Where video shows carrier splash, then 4 circular buttons, and then blue with text, I get white HTC for 5-6 seconds and then off.
Just to be sure, since original thread evolved...
Mine is a RHOD100, SEA Roms work fine, SPL 0.85 olinex (AT&T freqs, they think it's a Tilt 2)
Seems it was only some phones early...

Black/white striped boot screen

Hi all,
Yesterday I was playing Angry Birds (in Android), when screen turned black and my HD2 started to make a buzzing noise. I took the battery out, and since then my won't boot. When I turn on my phone I only get the white HTC bootscreen, wich is white/black striped, and it doesn't boot any further. I included a photo of the boot screen.
I already tried multiple hard resets, no effect .
Ouch.......
Can you get to bootloader.......?
(hold vol down while turning it on)
If so, is that black n white striped too??
take the sd card out too, the one evening i tried android it all went bad and i had to hard reset, and it refused to work with the sd in.
I tried hard reset without sd card a couple of times, but nothing changed.
Bootloader works, without stripes. I already tried to flash the stock rom. I put the stock nbh file, renamed to LEOIMG.nbh, on a FAT-32 formatted sd-card, but when I started the phone in bootloader (vol down+power), the "loading" screen dissapeared as quick as it showed up and the phone got back in bootloader mode (4 color screen)..

that usually means a mistake with teh card size, formatting, nbh file or something.
I tried 2 different sd cards now, 1gb and 4gb, both did the same.
I'm going to sleep now, i'll try some custom ROM nbh-files tomorrow, hope that wil work.
Tried a few custom ROM's, all didn't work.
I'm starting to think about sending my HD2 to HTC, but I'm not sure if they can fix it. I've lost my warranty since there's Cotulla's HSPL installed, but I can't get it uninstalled because my HD2 won't install nbh-files.
I know I'm going to have to pay for this, but I rather pay than having a bricked phone.
no need to flash .nbh to remove hspl, , just run hspl.exe in bootloader and choose stock spl.

Hi,
Did you find any solution for that problem?
Thnx
i must say. my phone (htc hd2) did the same so please did you find a solution?

[Q] Is my phone bricked??

Hey all, I am having trouble booting anything onto my HD2 everytime i boot the phone i get stuck on the (tri colour screen) "Hardspl" i think..
I am able to install original HTC roms and custom roms via USB and Serial but after i install them and it says installation complete when the phone restarts it just gets stuck on the "Hardspl" screen again??
Any help is appreciated thanks
Here are some images to help

(UPDATED)
How do i remove hspl ive tried installing an offical rom from the SD card but i still boot into this screen ????
Try this........
Power off the phone (make sure your battery is over 50%)
Turn on while holding the vol. down button.
You should be at bootloader (three colour screen)
If you have HSPL installed you should see "cotulla" and "HSPL" on the bootloader somewhere.
If youve been flashing official roms though this may have uninstalled HSPL.
I couldnt get the screenshots you linked to...
You can attach image files using the "manage attachments" button down under the text entry area.. (i think)
Id suggest trying to flash a stock/official rom just now until you get up and running.
With the phone at bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen....
Connect via USB and wait for "serial" to change to "USB", this could take a few minutes.......
When you see "usb" flash the ROM from your pc......
You should make sure that you have the correct ROM for your phone, go to the HTC site and pump in your serial number.
If you still have problems after this then post back here with any error messages you might get...
Hope that helps.....
Thanks for the reply, for the link you need to add (http ://) sorry i should have mentioned that
but i just finished doing what you told be and it finished installing. it had the HTC logo on phone with loading bar as on PC screen no errors :S but im still stuck on the tri colour screen
I originally had android booted onto this mobile but the 3G was not working so i tried installing the HTC wm 6.5 rom that I downloaded from the HTC website but it would not get out of the tri colour screen after i installed it.
So i though it may have been the hardspl its self so i updated the SLP from 2.05 to the 3.03 one im currently on but it does the same thing
Hmm ok...
So the flash finished all the wasy to 100% and there were no error messages..
then the phone rebooted and went to bootloader (3 colours)...??
Restarting the phone just keeps returning you to bootloader??
Try turning off then back on while holding down both volume buttons and see what happens.
Which model of HD2 do you have and which ROM did you flash??
Yes thats correct.
When i turn the device on wile holding vol up-down i get a grey screen to
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. press vol up to restore or press any other keys to cancel"
and im not sure what HTC HD2 i have..
Model: T8585 ?
I flashed the latest rom from the HTC website using the S/N
"RUU_Leo_S_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.831.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship"
Okay, get to that screen and press volume up to continue, this will perform a hard reset which is recommended after a flash, your device should then boot up, may take a few minutes as its the first time..........
ok, It finished in like less then 10sec but there was not skips did from 1% - 100% smoothly and says "Restore....Completed Press VolUp to boot"
So i pressed volume up and once again stuck on the tri colour screen
any more suggestions or is my phone dead?
Hmmm
Phones not bricked because 95% of the time if you can get to bootloader the problem can be fixed........
I have the feeling this is something obvious that Im not picking up on.
Chances are someone else will see this and point out the obvious but at the minute I cant think why it might be doing that......
You could try flashing the ROM from SD card.
Rename the file on your PC to "leoimg.nbh" and put it on a 2gb/4gb sd card, turn the phone off, put the card in, turn on and it should flash........
Like I said, i dont think your phone is dead, I think Im missing something obvious....
its weird because i can install roms, hardspl's and all that stuff it knows the phone is there and installs them but for some reason it never gets passes the hardspl stage.. on each boot.
it accually boots into the tri colour screen in a split second of turning the phone on
Its a longshot but is there any possibility that your volume down button is stuck in the pressed position.........
yeah i have installed off the SD card already. that took awhile but it says everything is ok and installsion has completed.
same problem though once i restart tri-coloured screen pops up.
Im afraid Im not sure about this one...........
I'll keep thinking and let you know if anything occurs to me.....
Im sure someone else will chip in at some point and point out the issue though.
alright no worries thanks for the help and time hopefully someone knows what the problem is.
Maybe if i uninstall the Hardspl? might totally wreck it and 100% brick my phone if it fails but I think its the only option ill have left soon
uninstalling hspl shouldnt cause any harm........
I didnt realise you had HSPL installed, I take it you instaled that after flashing the stock rom??
If you have HSPL installed......
Try to install a custom rom, ie an energy rom, just as an experiment........
dunno if youve seen the images yet conan, but unless its changed since, the OP has 3.03.0000
also, if he has magldr installed ( i didnt see it mentioned, but..) when you hard reset it takes just a few seconds, because it is only hard resetting magldr (at least thats my understanding, and would offer a reason why hard reset is so quick)
I suspect incorrect 3,14 flash, which didnt complete so its returning to bootloader,
so, OP, bootloader - hspl4 - 3.03.hspl - flash your 3.13 rom again, over usb.
ok thanks ill try that right now, also yes magldr was installed for android but i thought I got rid of it once i rebooted the offical HTC rom.
If this works im donating $20 to you right away no joke .. ive been trying to fix for 13hours straight

sd card flash, right?
Step 1 of the flash is the spl gets overwritten by the one in the leoing.nbh rom (3.03.0000 in this case) and then the phone reboots, and starts to flash , , splashscreen (where magldr is), radio, rom.
BUT, the phone wont allow the flash to start because hspl is now gone, so it fails CID checks and stops, so doesn't remove magldr, radio, rom, nothing, it just stops. Further attempts at flashing fail because you teh user haven't notived the spl change, you assume the whole flash failed, and that hspl is still there.
You shouldnt be able to get that far normaly, it would fail before it even starts, on a stock spl, except that hspl was there, so the flash was allowed to begin.
Ok, so its on SPL-3.03.HSPL now then I installed the latest HTC offical rom with USB but still no go
also if it is resetting magldr how come it doesent load up like it used to after a reset

Stuck at boot screen - can't seem to fix. =/

I didn't want to have to start a new thread, but I'm at a loss for what else to do. =/
I've been flashing back and forth between Android and WP7 for several months now, without any problems, but now that I need to revert the phone back to stock WinMo 6.5, it's just not working. Any ROM I flash, the phone boots into the white screen with green "HTC" logo, then shows the lettering in the bottom corner detailing ROM and Radio and whatnot, then that's it. It just sits at that screen indefinitely.
I've got a UK-spec unlocked HD2.
In the tri-colour bootloader screen it currently shows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x50
The ROM is the official HTC WWE ROM - RUU 3.14.405.2 with Radio 2.15.50.14.
I've tried Task29'ing my phone, flashing via USB, flashing via an 8GB FAT32 MicroSD card, and nothing seems to work, it always flashes, reboots, and then hangs at the white screen with green HTC logo and red lettering in the corner. I'm at a loss. I need the phone reverted to stock as I'm recycling it and they won't accept it with Android (obviously). =/
If I've missed something obvious, I'm really sorry - any and all help and/or scathing criticism is greatly appreciated.
Update - I just tried a custom ROM, using HSPL4 to change to SPL-2.08.HSPL, and it has the exact same problem. Flashes just fine, then hangs at the screen with the red lettering in the corner. What on earth is causing this? =/
Has anyone got any ideas? =[
Task29 only works with HSPL on your HD2.
Try to install SPL3.03 again by using HSPL4.
Have you tried to boot your HD2 without SD card inserted?
Have you tried to make a hard reset by removing the battery, waiting a few seconds, inserting the battery, pressing and holding the volume up and down buttons at the same time and pressing the power on button while holding the volume buttons?
By the way there are many threads with the same topic like yours with different solutions. Just use the search function with keywords "hd2 stuck white screen".

Yeah, I had 2.08.HSPL installed coming from my Android NAND ROM. I Task29'd the phone to clear out the NAND.
I've booted it without the SD card inserted, no difference. I've hard reset it (forgot to mention this in the original post =/) and it makes no difference.
And I've searched through the threads - there was nothing specific to my problem that I could find, hence my posting here. All the "Stuck at white screen" threads usually have had a problem with flashing the ROMs, or the radio hasn't installed, or they're stuck at the screen before the red lettering shows up in the bottom corner. =/
Everything about it suggests my phone should work - the ROM flashing never fails, the bootloader always shows that the ROM has installed correctly, and the white HTC screen confirms that ROM/Radio etc. have all been flashed. It just stays at the white screen with green HTC logo and the red lettering, it never moves beyond there. I've tried two stock ROMs, and a custom ROM. All have installed, all have frozen at the same point, the screen with the radio and ROM information in red lettering. =/
Maybe it's because of the combination of (H)SPL, RADIO AND ROM???
Have you tried to install WP7 or Android again, just for testing?
Sometimes, but seldomly, it seems there are leftovers from HSPL 1.66 or 2.08 altough bootloader shows SPL2.08 or 3.03 which are causing difficulties.
Try to install and remove HSPL2.08 by using HSPL2_RUN.exe before you start flashing a new ROM. Some useres in different threads reported to solve strange behavior be doing this procedure.
Good luck.
I just flashed magldr and a NAND ROM to it, both worked flawlessly, and it's now running Android as it always has, no issues.
I'll try flashing a WinMo ROM now, and see if it accepts it. If not, I'll try HSPL2_RUN and see if that helps anything. Thanks for your help =].

I tried installing and removing HSPL2.08 with HSPL2_RUN.exe. I then installed SPL1.66.0000, and flashed the WWE 1.66 ROM. It flashed fine, rebooted and... Nothing. It's still hanging at the white screen with green HTC logo and red information in the corner. I'm beyond confused as to what could be causing this. Everything about my phone is telling me the ROM has flashed. It's even charging while off, and the LED changes from orange to green when it's full. The Android NAND ROM I flashed confirmed this. *flummoxed*
That sounds really strange...
Last thing you can try:
- be sure to have SPL1.66 on your HD2 by using HSPL2_RUN.exe
- format you SD card by using SD Formatter and a card reader
- download latest STOCK ROM 3.14 again from HTC homepage by using your HD2's serial number
- extract the downloaded file by using 7-zip or something similar
- copy the ruu_signed.nbh file to your SD card by using a card reader
- rename the ruu_signed.nbh file on your SD card into LEOIMG.nbh
- remove your HD2's battery
- wait a few seconds
- insert battery and SD card
- press and hold volume down button and press power button while volume down button is pressed
- release the buttons when you HD2 is powering up
- follow the instructions given on the HD2's screen
One of my step by steps, but I believe you know how to flash ROMs with SD card method.
I just tried following your steps... nothing . Although, I did notice this time, flashing via SD card, that the update failed. It got part of the way through then stopped and changed to the black screen with the grey warning triangle. When I loaded back into the bootloader, it briefly showed "ROM upgrade error, please try again" and RUUNBH in the top corner, but it then proceeded to load the update from the sd card and install it. The update worked, I rebooted the phone, but again it stuck at the white background, with the green HTC logo and red lettering. Once again the red lettering and the bootloader are saying the flash was successful... but I've left the phone for half an hour and it doesn't progress beyond the white screen.
Is there any reason it failed, then flashed, says it's flashed, but isn't booting?
Sorry, but I have no answer to your question.
Sadly I have no further ideas how to reactivate your HD2 with WM6.
Maybe there is another guy having a solution.

Can someone provide a working link for Adam's Ubuntu recovery?

I already tried downloading it from the original post, but it says daily traffic limit reached. Already tried waiting two days, but the error remains. Could someone please upload it somewhere, or provide a working link? Help would be much appreciated, as Adam's method is my last hope.
Thanks in advance!

This is how I downloaded it a few weeks ago.
Good luck!
Thank you for your help, I managed to download and run the ubuntu recovery, but now I ended up being stuck at the "n" read forever screen. I already tried the 8 failed boots method, nothing changed. Any idea what to do now?
ouch.
It ran without a hitch for me (after I got it on card big enough to handle, sheesh). Head back to Adam's thread, I'm sure someone will be able to help you there.
After you put in the card you made, you did see ubuntu running, right?
When booting from Adams recovery sd it will take a long time before you even get to the 100 second countdown timer (about 5 MINUTES). It takes an additional 20 minutes or so to format, write zeros to all the partitions snd rewrite each with data for 1.4.0. THE SCREEN WILL TIME OUT at some point in the process and i found you can just press the N button to turn it back on to monitor progress. When it is finished, the script will tell you to take out the SD and then the tablet will reset and go into a recovery and reset the firmware. I had an issue reregistering when the B and N screen came up so i skipped registration by holding volume up and touching the left and right corners of the screen at the play video screen. A factory button appears and after pressing that, you hold volume up and touch right corner of screen and an option to skip Oobe registration appears. Skip oobe and then you are ready to root. Personally i made a CM7 root card and booted with it. I THEN INSTALLED CWM with Indirects recovery tool apk. Then you can flash Cm9 to the internal and use cyanoboot to chose between the internal cm9 or sd cm7. Good luck!

If you have a brick try my unbricking method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562130
had to go to virtual box
my problem was not the downlaod. i got it from the OP link w/ no prob. but w/ windoze, the microhcsd did not work. aarrgghh. adam kind of responded to that conplaint by saying 'windoze has problems and linux does not'... so i am like a big zero w/ ubuntu but what the hay. i dnlded oracle's virtual box and got it going. then i dnlded ubuntu but did not like its layout and looks so i dnlded mint and that seemed better ( for me ). within mint, i made the sd using a cheapie 16GB from amazon. you do have to have patience and there is very little feedback. well, with the new sd, the un-brick process worked. just pluggin it into the pc and it ( slowly ) gets going. you think its still dead and will not work and then it comes to life and you see ubuntu graphics and its running its script. there is a progress bar of sorts. then you power on and it is at 1.40 and you have to skip over the OOBE ( out of box experience )
.
gotcha for me was that it was NOT powered off when you think it was powered off. the screen has a black / blank mode and then the 'real' black / blank mode. if you hold the tab at a really sharp obtuse angle . . . you can see that it is 'on' when you thought it was 'off'. with no cable attached, press and hold the power button for five seconds to make it off-off...

[Q] HELP - Ice Cream Sandwich OTA Update completely Bricked my Amaze

Well, today I went into settings>about phone and found the HTC update (ice cream sandwich)
I downloaded it, and went ahead and followed all instructions. Battery life, etc.
I got the black screen with the green curved arrows, and then the phone restarted.
I then got the White HTC screen and thats where it has been stuck ever since.
I noticed the grey lettering "Quietly Brilliant" never shows up under "HTC"
So I pulled the battery.. tried again. Same thing.
Pull the battery, removed the SD card, try again, same thing.
THEN I pulled the battery, did a MANUAL FACTORY RESET by holding volume down while hitting the power button, etc.
and it still gets stuck.
Took it into Tmobile store. Then did all the same stuff and then sat their glassy eyed.
I asked for an exchange, but won't bore you with the low level of service you experience in a Tmobile store.. suffice it to say if it is of any consequence, it needs to be done over the phone.
So here I am with a phone I can't get to boot. This phone has never been rooted, it was completely out-of-the-box.
I did notice on the white DOS-like screen where you select "factory reset" that at the top it says "locked" in fuschia colored text.. not sure if that has any significance.
I'm about to call customer service and start that whole fun time, but I'm posting here hoping that one of the genuii that frequent these forums can help me get the phone working so that I don't have to go days without a phone and pay god knows how much to get a new one shipped to me. (the guys at the store were of no help getting me a replacement)
I have no idea what to do to get it running at this point..
Thanks for any help!
PS: My phone has never been rooted or altered in any way.. completely stock
Try this.
Pull battery, remove sim card. Leave out for 5 minutes. Don't put sim back.
Put battery back (without sim) and hold volume and power and instead of factory reset choose recovery.
Cross fingures and hopefully it recovers into ics sense 3.6. Worked for me.
I am not rooted, fully stock out the box also. And this worked

Sorry to here that, just install the official leaked ics ruu through hboot/bootloader.
1. Download the ruu.
2. Place the file on external sd card but rename it PH85img.zip
3. Go into hboot by removing the battery and put it back in, then hold power and volume down.
4. Just follow the onscreen instructions and let it do its thing, (LET IT DO IT'S THING)

If you follow through with his^ instructions on installing the stock RUU, word of advice, NEVER FACTORY RESET OR BATTERY PULL ON YOUR FIRST BOOT UP AFTER INSTALLING A NEW ROM OR UPDATE, be patient, give the ROM some time to move in, organize it's desk, stock the fridge up and put the toilet paper back, it was in the process of doing so when you interrupted it multiple times and even took away it's luggage in the end, so flash the stock ruu he indicated and let it do it's thing. That seems to be your best chance since everything is stock, not sure if the phone would let you, but you can pull the update file from the post in the general forum and try flashing that since it should be the same and it's the official update.
Ouch... TMO must have used the same bad mirror I used when first trying to flash ics

Hey Seriously, THANKS guys.
You are more help than anything Tmobile can do thats for sure.. just got off the phone with a level 2 guy, and the best i can get out of them is to pay them $45 to get me a refurb Amaze by Thursday.
And even then, I'd still probably have to try and get ICS on it.
Forgive me for this, its been awhile since I've been twiddling with my Android phone (not since my original G1 back in the day)
..so I'm a bit rusty of the terms and where to get the files, etc. So please, if you can, walk me through these steps with URLs to files if possible:
1) "Download the ruu." - where do I get that? I assume that is a file(?)
2) "Place the file on external sd card but rename it PH85img.zip" ok self explanatory
3) "Go into hboot by removing the battery and put it back in, then hold power and volume down." - OK I've been there before
4) "Just follow the onscreen instructions and let it do its thing, (LET IT DO IT'S THING)
xxxxxxx626_signed.zip" (forum wont let me post real url)
OK is that URL above the address to get the RUU file? Just want to make sure I'm using the right thing..
ALSO- when putting that file on the External SD CARD- I am putting my SD card into a flash card reader and inserting it into a usb port on my computer (since i cant get my phone to boot)
however, the Amaze has got this weird thing where when you mount to phone as a drive, you actually get TWO removeable drives that pop up- one had the DCIM folder (photos, etc) and the other had some other stuff.
When I put my SD card into the reader on my computer, I'm only getting one of these right now- the one with the DCIM containing the photos.
Is this where I need to place the PH85img.zip file?
Thanks for your help- sorry I'm rusty
wise words

Flash stock rom then take battery out for an hour.
OK here's what I did.
I downloaded the big zip file, renamed it to PH85img.zip and placed it on a NEW SD card that I formatted to FAT32 (in case my other one turned out to be corrupt)
I then put that card in the phone, and held the down vol + power and got into the white screen.
It said:
ph85diag.zip
..no image!
ph85diag.nbh
.. no image or wrong
then it found the PH85img.zip and started loading it up (blue vertical progress bar in upper right that completed)
then it started "checking" PH85img.zip (yellow progress bar in upper right that completed)
then it put me back to the main menu of the white screen.
I wasnt sure what to do there so I hit the "fast boot" opetion and got a submenu where I selected "power down"
this shut the phone down.
I then powered back on normally and got the white HTC screen, and it is now sitting on that screen doing seemingly nothing (been there for about 8 minutes now)
What did I do wrong?
Thanks for the guidance!
When it checks the ph85img.zip it should ask you whether to perform the update or not, volume up for yes, volume down for no, be sure to download the very latest leaked file and try again, yes you place the file renamed to PH85IMG on the sd, not in any folders, give it another shot, let us know how it goes.
Hmm.. i don't think it asked me to perform the update.
I will go back to that white screen again (is that the "bootloader"?)
and see what happens.
in the meantime its been sitting on this HTC screen for 25 minutes so i think its safe to assume its stuck.
Also... Don't be alarmed, but there are a couple of qwerky actions the phone does whole updating that u may not be used to.
1) it will unzip and install the system partition about 7-10 times. It looks like its looping... But its not... Let it do its thing.
2) it may flash partitions out of order. With s=off it does, because one bootloader flashes certain partitions (including new boatloader) and then it rebooted and the new bootloader flashed the rest. It may not be so qwerky with s=on, but just in case... Don't be alarmed.
One last thing... Thanks for searching before posting. For that, we all love helping people like you

And please do not have your usb cable plugged in while doing this, that way it'll go to fastboot instead of the bootloader. (think I'll do a video to help everyone out lol)
OK I just ran through that progress bar on the white screen again.
after it was done "checking" PH85img.zip it went back to the main menu.. it did not ask to perform the update.
i have:
HBOOT (highlighted in blue)
<vol up> to previous item
<vol down> to next item
<power> to select
FASTBOOT (highlighted in blue)
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
note: i have my sim card removed.. will try again with it back in.
I'm wondering if perhaps there is some junk in my phone internal memory/storage that is causing the issue? Is there a way to clear out whatever may be in internal memory?
Because the sd card is a new and freshly formatted card, so it cant be that..

Very unlikely
Your bootloader is "LOCKED" or "RELOCKED" right? Because it has to be for it to work
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2
yup it says "locked" at the top of the bootloader screen.
i just tried the whole thing again with the sim card put back in and had the same result- just brings me back to the main bootloader screen.. should I try a "factory reset"?
one note: I didnt download the zip file from filefactory, as it was going to take 3+ hours
so i googled the filename and found a page with it available at d-h.st and grabbed that one.
I assume its the same file, but perhaps not the latest version?

It seems to me you got a bad download. This was happining to me when I was trying to update to ics. I would try to download the ics leak in the devolopment section posted on may 5th by football then proceed with your steps.
Place file on sd card (not in any folders)
Rename to PH85IMG
Put sd card back in phone
Pull battery and put it back in
Volume down and power button
