[Q] flash ics 4.0.4 through Odin - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I am new here and have some questions.
I wanted to update my sgs2 from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. I have downloaded a hopefully correct firmware at sammobile. My question is what do I have to wipe? Do I have to especially take care of anything and how do I find out if I have this superbrick bug that can occurs while wiping. Thanks for your help.

Some questions regarding S2

Hello . First of all , excuse me for my noobish questions but i'm new to samsung and i have some elementary questions which i have not found using the search option.
My current firmware is 2.3.6 and I'm looking forward to flash it to ICS but i don't know which firmware to download . I flashed my friends phone (i9100p) to ICS and it worked but mine had a bootloop so i had to flash it back to my stock firmware (2.3.6) . Can somebody tell me what 4.x firmware is suitable for my phone because i do not know what "XWLP7" or "BVKL1" are.
Phone info:
Baseband Version : I9100BVKL1
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-I9100BVKL1-CL774645 [email protected]#2
PDA: i9100BVKL1
Phone:I9100BKL1
CSC:i9100ROKL1
Thank you !!
in that case first remove battery and see it says i9100 not i9100G
get lp7 stock (sammobile.com/checkfus/http://skywanker.net/Download/download.aspx (Intratech's))
get odin and learn how to use it
wipe your phone using *2767*3855#
flash using odin
wipe again using same code
signin to you'r gmail and have fun.
follow the aboue post ,hes right and alwayz do a factory reset an then flash ics jus to b clean

[Q] Stock kernel, how do i tell please

Hi Guys and Gals. I am a noob trying to update my Galaxy s2 to ICS and have hit a brick wall. I received the message that an update was available and downloaded it OTA, but the install failed for some reason. When i plug in to Kies i get the " Device doesn't support software upgrades via Kies" message.
After a little searching it seems the main reason for this might be a modified Kernel. The phone is an unbranded XSA model and i have never modified it in anyway. I have no idea if the dealer did any modifications before shipping.
What i need to know is, how do i tell if it has a stock kernel or not, and do i need to re flash the entire firmware to get it.
This is all the info on the phone.
Baseband version I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version [email protected]#2
PDA I9100XWKK2
Phone I9100XXKI4
CSC I9100XSAKE3
Build Info Friday Nov 11 18:05:58 KST 2011
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and sorry the lack of knowledge.
I believe it still is the stock kernel, also XXKI4 is a stock baseband version for Gingerbread. Looks like you didn't get updated. Best thing to do is do it on this website if you want the proper ICS experience, and not all of that Touchwiz nonsense Samsung loves.
Chris.
Unless you flash custom roms or kernels it always has Stock kernel .
Use CHECKFUS to see if their is an ICS update for your phone if not you wait or flash stock ICS roms from here .

Thanks for the replies. Just wondering what the issue with Kies would be? I am a little unsure as to which ICS version to get and also, what will happen to all my data, settings etc..
Backup your data factory reset phone and trie updates again .
Fails then flash stock firmware for your location from XDA ,

Get the correct official firmware version from samfirmwares.Com.
Flash using ODIN.

[Q] ICS for KI4 phones?

When I type in *#1234# on my phone I get:
Code:
PDA: I9100XXKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100IXAKI4
I was hoping to update it to ICS from the current 2.3.5, but when I go to the Official Firmwares Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) I don't see any firmware for KI4 with ICS.
Can anyone confirm if ICS has been released for KI4? Is it possible to use another firmware without wiping the phone or risking bricking/stability problems?
Why would you expect to find anything related to KI4 for ICS? It's entirely irrelevant, it's just to do with when that particular firmware was released.
Here's an old post of mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19384876#post19384876
Thanks that makes a bit more sense now.
But when I'm looking down that page I see various XX releases, e.g. XXLPQ but how do I find one that matches my CSC? Or does it matter whether or not I have one that matches my CSC? (the phone was bought unbranded off Amazon.de).
Use CheckFus and enter the data of your phone. It will tell you about the latest stock firmware released for your phone. If it turns out it is what you want (ICS), you can download and flash it.

Upgraded to stock 4.0.3 before and rooted, can i upgrade to stock 4.0.4?

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. When I first bought my UK unlocked I9100, it had Gingerbread on it. I then upgraded to the stock 4.0.3 ICS and then rooted with CF-Root v.5.4 LP7 as per instructions posted here on XDA.
Here are my current stats now...
I9100XWLP7
baseband version: I9100XXLPS
kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913
[email protected] #3
build number: IML74K.XWLP7
CF-Root v5.4 LP7
Yesterday, I got an automatic notification on my phone telling me there is a software update. I'm assuming this is the same thing as the stock 4.0.4 firmware posted on these forums...
I9100XWLPT
Base Firmware: I9100XWLPT (4.0.4)
Region: Europe
Country United Kingdom / Ireland
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 27 July 2012
Modem: XXLQ6
CSC: XEULPA
Change List: 941023
Can I upgrade by hitting OK on the phone to the automatic update or by doing it through Kies? Will it break the root, or worse screw up the phone because it was rooted? If it just undoes the root without doing damage, how would I re-root? If it keeps the root intact, that would be the ideal situation.
Thanks!
It will break root. But if you make update, never use CWM on stock kernel (hardbrick bug enabled).
You can re-root by flashing CF-Root.

Thanks for the quick reply. So if I stick with stock firmwares and CF-root, I don't have to worry about bricking, right? I assume the instructions in the first post of this thread is what I need to follow...

Thanks again.
can't he not just use KIES in order to update safely to 4.0.4 ?

From what I understand, I can either upgrade via Kies or flash the same firmware that's listed in the forums. And then when I root, I take it I follow these steps...
Instructions For Rooting ICS :
Extract the Rooted Kernel
Open the included Odin
Put your device into Download MODE
Click PDA and select CF-Root-SGS2_*-v5.3-CWM5.tar
Then finally click START!
From this page...

does one need to re root every time there is a update ?
sorry if this is a silly Q but this is my first android based phone

[Q] Official Stock 4.0.4 NEE (Danish) Rom - Where to find!?

Let me start by apologizing if this is already covered, but I have been searchin high and low without result!
I have just flashed the new Jelly Bean Poland ROM! Working like a treat!
BUT... Then I realised that Kies won't find any updates anymore! =(
So I tried to downgrade to Stock 4.0.4. I tried more versions, but all ended up in a bootloop!
So I am looking for a stock ICS 4.0.4 unbranded (Danish) version to flash, so I can get the OTA update when it starts rolling out her in Denmark!
What I had before flashing to JB was:
AP: I9300XXBLH3
CP: I9300XXLH1
CSC: I9300NEEBLH2
Anyone who can guide me in the right direction ?
Thanks in advance

What a nice programme that chechfusdownloader =)
Unfortunately I still have that bootloop! (Only on 4.0.4 - NOT on 4.1.1)
Maybe I will have to do a full wipe ?
Yup problem solved! A full wipe did the trick!
Thanks guys!
