My screen seems to be touching itself lately. Random phantom clicks are happening, mostly in the area just below the notification bar. It doesn't happen all the time, but I have been unable to pin a potential cause down. If the worst happens, and it goes completely nuts, what would you do? Are there reasonable options for replacement screens? Anyone know what replacement options are offered by Verizon? I have insurance.
Phone is rooted and running JellyBlur. This behavior has persisted through different ROMs, so I don't think it's software related. If I end up taking it in to Verizon, I know I have to return it to stock, and I really don't want to do that if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance for your help.
Update: It seems there's something weird going on when I use the volume keys. It causes the screen to register a press on the top center. Any idea how to go about fixing it, or is it even worth looking at? Used Galaxy Nexus phones aren't that expensive, after all.

Interesting. I have had the same problem, but it's intermittent and very rare. I discovered it when I had set the keyboard to allow volume keys to move the cursor while typing. Pressing one of the volume keys resulted in unwanted characters appearing. The same volume key press kept producing the same unwanted characters.
Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas.
I had a similar issue and ended up buying a used TBolt on ebay for $60. A replacement LCD/digitizer combo is about the same price. I went with the whole unit so I could make the transition with little downtime, but swapping the screen out of these phones is really simple.

I know there are hundreds of threads and articles posted about HD2s freezing with the lock screen but this issue seems different to me. My problem is that whenever I lock the phone the touch screen will freeze entirely. I thought a work around may be to install a different lock screen. After installing that I can get past the lock screen but the touch screen still is not responsive. I have no idea what to do. I already did a hard reset and it still does it. I would like to add that it is completely consistent. It happens every time without fail. In order to even use the phone I have to pull the battery and I get one use out of it before it locks and I have to pull the battery again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it..
Update: I flashed the original ROM to my phone and the freezing problem still exists.. I have no idea what to do at this point.
Update 2: Narrowed down the problem to being the physical "power/end/lock" button. If I slightly press it but not fully it will go to the honeycomb style menu with all the apps. If I press it fully the screen will go out like normal but then if I restore it, the entire screen is locked up. Nothing will work after that until I pull the battery.
I've directly linked the issue with the power button. I dont know why all of a sudden the power button would have a different function. The work around I found is while the phone is locked and the screen is off I can press the green button to unlock the phone and the touch screen will then function. If I use the power button it will remain frozen. Any ideas what happened?
Hello,
I got some bad news for you, this issue is actually related to the digitizer (hardware) not software. What i would recommend is called HTC for a repair and send it in, it is covered by warranty, hopefully you have warranty.
A lot of people are having this issue, no-one yet has been able to pinpoint the cause, but here is the link a thread with similar problem:

Thanks for the reply. I do not think I have a warranty on this phone considering I bought it privately. Ill talk to Tmo and HTC and see what I can do. Just a theory, I may be wrong. But I live in PA and its been getting below 20 here lately. I noticed today that my work around didnt work when I was outside working on my car. Then I went inside and used a blow dryer to heat up the phone and it started working again. The end button didn't function properly but I could unlock the phone with the green send button. Perhaps the cold weather is shorting out people's digitizers? I don't really know how they work so that's why i said its only a theory. I bought this phone in the spring and didnt have an issue until now when it started getting really cold.
Hi to everyone in this forum. I've recently received as a present a new toshiba folio 100, but, since I'm experiencing an annoying menu button flashing, I've thought of it as a software problem so I upgraded the folio using the foliomod1.3c and applied the rotate patch and also the 1.3c fix patch. The menu still flash with no apparent logic. I've tried to kill all applications running and it's still there. It seem to come up and down at random. I ask to all in this forum: do you believe it's a hardware issue or is a software issue? Because if it's a hardware issue I'm going to try to have a new folio from toshiba. I'm overall very pleased with the work that Dexter made to make the folio an usable machine but this flashing is driving me crazy. I use the folio basically as a portable scientific pdf reader so I need to concentrate on what I read and this flashing is really annoying. I would like very much to thank you all in this forum in advance for all the suggestion/help you could provide.

I have a request that serve All those who suffer MENU crazy button .
Is it possible to prepare application you can setting ON/OFF the MENU button
Most of the time useless button.
sometimes button jump after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour
Usually I fix the problem by changing the settings with FolioButtons 1.1.
If you could add to FolioButtons on/off operation for menu Buttons was the best.
Hi teknoraver,
Can you add enabled/disabled menu button in foliobuttons application ?
flashing on...

I am pretty desperate about this issue, because none of the methods seem to help...
Right now the buttons work opposite- Menu button flashes mad and none of the other 3 responds...dont know how it happened
Just a thought- while the folio is booting up the menu button ALREADY flashes! I have zero understanding in there but isn't it a process that loads / starts early in the line?
I appreciate everyone's effort trying to solve this bug as it makes this handy tool a useless pile of crap.
I was wondering how many folio users are suffering of this crazy buttons madness.
Mine was crazy from the very beginning; I sent it back for repair and toshiba only did a firmware restore... Nothing changed at all!
It makes my folio almost unusable!
bye bye crazy buttons
After two weeks of testing and a complete breakdown of my folio100, I finally find the problem or just crazy buttons and freezing of the screen.
I drag a thickness in the screen in the bottom right corner of the screen to isolate the audio connector and it works better than a miracle again.
The only downside is that the screen comes out slightly from the slot but nothing really bad.
The thickness I put slightly too big or-1.4 mm I'll Demount next week to put a finer and I'll try to take pictures in passing.
Note however that the loss of waranty is innevitable.
Sorry for my bad english ;-)
I think it's a hardware issue and even a build quality issue.
If i hold my folio at the side of the buttons, i get the flashing buttons problem (even the foliobuttons app will not help), if i hold it at the other side, i've got no problems at all.
Do you have an animated background? Because I saw that some people had this issue with an animated background...
Hi Mshr73, nice first post indeed
Could you post some pictures of what you did?

seems to get better...
I really don’t want to be too quick on this, but Dexter’s 1.4 seems to bring relief to this issue - for 2 days I have been running this mod the menu button stopped flashing!!
Any similar impressions on this?

No way pal, I guess I'm in the opposite situation. It still happens to me, and sometimes I think it even got worse... well, I can always look at crazy keys as a "special feature" that no other tablet will have!!!
I just tested without thickness under the screen, with foliomod 1.4 and after a few hours I again the problem of crazy buttons.

Well, I just finished dismantling e reassembling my Folio. Following your hint, I cut a piece of paper and put it between the audio connector and the back of the screen (yes, it was metal vs metal). I'll see whether it's gonna work or not. Crossing fingers for now.
Not that I'm so confident in leaving a piece of paper stuck right where the DC input is .
BTW, did you try with a smaller thickness? Even if this is the problem, I'm wondering whether a piece of paper would be enough or not.
thyself can someone. post pictures of before and after details?
we will be much appreciated
i didn't have the crazy buttons issue this far in 2 weeks, just my home butten needs to be pressed harder. I'm pretty sure it's hardware related, i read often that users experience it when changing from an warm room to a colder one, or in regions where its verry humid(some circuit closes maybe...). so Mshr73 is on the right way as far as i can tell.

Really sorry mate, I hope it will solved this for others too...
Anyhow, it is so disturbing, that I was already considering to send the tablet back to Toshiba...
I'll try to do this weekend if I do not have too many customers. I post the result Monday.

I'm looking forward to your pictures, too... because my trial simply didn't work.
I tried with both a single piece of paper and then with 2 pieces wrapped in tape. I put these spacers between the back of the display and DC/audio connector.
In both cases, the crazy keys phenomenon started to happen after 15-20 minutes of usage.
In most cases, it starts to show when I unlock the device. As soon as I unlock it, home and menu buttons light up with no apparent reason and go crazy for 10-30 seconds.
Then, I even tried to loosen just a little the screws (I read, somewhere in the forum, of a guy who said that he solved his crazy keys and screen lag problems this way). I mean, all screws are now locked but not too tight. Well, I have to say that I don't have any screen lag anymore (I even removed the piece of paper, from the battery area, which used to solve the issue before) but crazy keys still happen. I'm going slightly mad

Well ... with a piece of paper the problem Come back.
I handed a piece of cardboard and the problem disappears.
I think that to raise the screen to solve them but I'm still not 100% sure.
Has anyone noticed the power button being extra sensitive? That is to say, on the Hero/Evo, you had to hold the power button for at least 2 seconds before the pop-up Power Options menu would display. On my 3vo, it pops up in less than a second. I'm finding it slightly annoying, because the space between "sleep" and "power options menu" is too narrow.
Not mine....

work on reseating the back shell of the phone, i had the issue too at first and i thought it was a defect, but i played with it a couple times and got it to work like a normal power button
Nope not at all, I actually have to press it more than once sometimes and harder the second time for it to work......
yea mine is a lil sensitive...cant have it my pocket because of it..pulled it out a couple times and the phone bouncing around in my pocket opened apps and almost called ppl
Throw an OtterBox on there....
you have to give it a little lovin- WON"T happen by accident.
Also - saved my3D from a nice 5 foot drop courtesy of some Crazy 3 yr olds on the 4th.
mine is like that and I hate it!!!
U guys have cases on the phone? I guess not

I actually find the new power button a little bit better to my liking, a lot easier to find in a blind poweron. But I do agree that it might be a little too sensitive. I've found that the phone turns itself on while in my pocket - which is a bad thing because on shake the led flashlight turns on lol! Of course that kills the battery...
Also when trying to turn on or off... sometimes i see the turn off, reboot menu pop up which just simply put, never happened with the evo og. And while i like the ease of use and how fast it reacts to turning off/on, it seems to be a bit of a problem ATM
not not at all sensitive. it's actually under sensitive. some time i get frustrated because i have to push it so hard in the exact sweet spot just to get it to turn on. after having it for over a week now it's getting better, but at first i couldn't even get the thing turned on.
Not mine in fact mine is kinda hard to push. I'm going to the Sprint store I bought mine from this weekend to see if I can get it switched out because I have light leaking through the ring that surrounds the search key, and it bugs the hell out of me lol. So I hope my new one is gonna be normal.
This happens to me with or without the case. I did have a very brief time where the power button would not respond at all, and discovered that the back was causing it (I had swapped the OEM 8G card for my 32).
I don't think this is a big enough problem for me to try and swap the phone out, although it is a little annoying. I suppose in time I'll learn not to push the power button too long.
I have the same problem with the sensitive power button but I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S. I'm wondering if there is dust in the way... Anybody ever find a fix or diagnose the problem for this? I've seen the same problem across multiple devices on the forums so I am starting to believe its a wear and tear type of thing.
Mine is kinda sensitive. But not as sensitive as the one I saw at my local sprint store. Interesting how it seems like no two EVOS are the same.
Good thing though is that since the button is built into the backcover... Maybe picking up another one can deliver a more sensitive/stiff experience.

I believe I'm having a hardware failure with the rocker buttons. I have to press in certain spots to get the down key to function, and I have to press near the center of the rocker to get the up key to do anything.
It's been a while since an atrix apart, but can do so if needed. Is there anything I can do to attempt to repair this issue w/o ordering new parts? I know weird fixes exist for things like wifi, but not sure about this.
I know it's a hardware problem due to the fact that it's nearly impossible for me to get into recovery, since the keys barely function at all.
Thanks.

you start out by saying "i believe", and end off with "i know". its one or the other. luckily i know of the issue, having had it myself. it is a hardware issue. replace camera flex cable or replace device.

Just want to post an update. I had opened the phone up, and saw where the contacts were in relation to the buttons. The contact was pushed inwards towards the camera, so the buttons were not makign contact. Fixed it by cutting thin strips of plastic and inserting them in between the contacts and the camera. Buttons work like a charm and it was a free fix
Hey,
I'm new to these kinds of things like forums and stuff like that, so sorry if I'm not that clear with what I'm saying. If I could also get some criticism on the post itself and how I can improve, it'd be a great help!
I've had this phone since November of 2013 and this is my first time encountering this problem. After getting home from school, I took my phone out of my backpack and tried waking it(simply pressing the power button so I could see the lock screen), then I noticed nothing would happen. I tried again and again then noticed that the 3 "buttons" at the bottom of my phone were lighting up when I unlocked it, and disappear when locking it. Once I unlocked it, I was able to turn the volume higher and lower, listen to music(because I remember what the layout looks like before it had a black screen), and even (somewhat) use apps. Every time I hear my phone ring, it really makes me want to punch it, because I know that the phone itself is working, but just the screen won't turn on. Like even when I registered for xda-developers, my phone rang once I got the e-mail to verify my account.
I looked at a bunch of other threads before creating this one. Some said to hold down Power Button, Volume +, and Volume - for 30-60 seconds. I tried doing this multiple times, each time holding down the buttons a different amount of seconds, and nothing happened. I let the 3 icons at the bottom blink 15 times, wait a few seconds, let it vibrate, then let go. The longer I held the buttons, the more it would vibrate(about one vibrate for every 15 seconds). I hear the sound effects when turning it on and off("Droid" in the robot voice, then followed by some weird robot-sounding noises). Some people just said to let it charge, and I also tried that. Nothing happened, really, it just charged.
I've been thinking of letting the battery die out, but who wouldn't think of that? So I just ditched that idea. Tell me if I should try it, though, please.
My phone's pretty beat up, but nothing to the point where some parts of the screen would stop working, just two pretty big cracks on it. Sorry, I can't post pictures 'cause I'm new > <
If you guys could help me out with this, or just tell me if it doesn't work at all, it'd be a great help.
Thanks,
Joseph

That sounds pretty simple. Would I need to replace it, get a new phone, or fix it myself at home?

I would replace the screen. Whether or not you want to do it yourself depends on your confidence, experience, and tools. If you've never torn a phone apart before, then you might want to find a friend who is handy or go to a shop because HTCs, in general, are not the easiest things to start with. And you'll definitely want to buy the already pre-assembled LCD+Digitizer combo as trying to separate the 2 would be more hassle than it is worth.
