Paranoidandroid installation issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I am using Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and I have rooted my stock ROM and installed the paranoid android 2.+ . After installation and wiping factory settings and cache; when I rebooted my device, its showing a paranoid icon for hours. Nothing has happened after that and its still showing the same icon. How i have to proceed to complete installation or go back to stock ROM. Please help

What stock firmware were you using??

Try this before flashing the rom, seems to help most people

I guess this has something to do with your previous ROM. Were you using any leaked stock JB based ROM?
Oh and btw, don't worry, nothing has gone wrong with your phone. You'll be able to get it back working

Hi.. I was using a leaked unofficial CM10 ROM. I tried and moved to recovery mode at last and installed the paranoid android again and wiped out the previous data. Now its working fine ..

Stock Kernel for stock ROM P500

This is me, using stock ROM GB 2.3.3 v20G, rooted.
After awhile I learned that stock ROM can be overclocked by flashing custom kernel from CWM. So I did it, using paoloM70 and francoV1.1, my P500 now can be overclocked.
However, I want to have a flashable stock kernel for a backup, but I can't find it anywhere
well at least I've already tried googling and thread searching here using keyword "stock kernel"...I don't know the actual code version.
Will someone please help me find stock kernel and post a link in here?
Even better if we have stock kernel files for Froyo and GB, I'd like to see those.
Thanks in advance.

stock kernel is not availible as a zip,, you need to reflash your stock ROM usind kdz in order to get it back... and i'll recommend you to stay with franco.kernel for gingerbread if you're using stock ROM as it's the best.... else you can flash cm7 6.5.8 which is the best ROM for p500.........

DONT FORGET TO THANK ME IF MY ADVICE WAS HELPFUL FOR YOU )
extract it from the official LG boot.img. You'll need zImage and modules. Replace the ones in Paulo's .zip and viola, stock flashable kernel.

[Q] Kernel troubles...

First off, hello guys and girls, a long time forum crawler but i've only just bit the bullet and registered
Recently picked myself up an SIII (i9300) rooted up and decided to go with Omega, but i've found that whenever i flash a kernel, all will go ahead as normal, flashes fine and i reboot, to be left with a black screen and some varying vibration patterns depending on the kernel flashed... I've tried Perseus (the main one i'd like to see working) aswell as siyah, but neither chose to boot.
Both specified to work on samsung based roms, and i'm not on 4.2.2 (only 4.2.1) so that isn't the problem... So here i am; Where am i going wrong?
Thank you ahead of time
are you sure you've got a i9300?

if you look on the perseus thread it states it does not work on 4.2.2 samsung roms. There arent any 4.2.2 sammy roms so im pretty sure its meant to say 4.2.1 and the OP mistyped.

yeah, missed that. most kernels don't support 4.2

A few questions about flashing roms

I just bought a DNA and it currently has viper rom 1.2.0 on it. It is rooted, but is s-on, I really don't know if it has CWM or even how to tell? I am using straight talk on it and cant seem to get MMS to work, but it looks like Virtuous rom works with straight talk MMS. I am really not sure where I need to pick up on one of these guides just to flash a rom. Is that all I need to do to get it switched over? Sorry if these questions are easy/noob I really would rather just not brick this phone =)
Look in the general section and the original development sections for guides and pretty much any phone forum for guides. They will do a better job of explaining than me. You cant have a custom kernel on viper 1.2 and it for sure either has CWM or TWRP.
If you are s on, you have to download the zip of the Rom or kernel you want. Next, download flash gui on the market. Select the Rom or zip and it will flash the boot image. On a kernel, extract the modules and flash in recovery. For Roms, flash the zip after you flash the boot.img. try all that out, then look in the original development section for rooting and s-off. Hope this helps!

Download the "tweakker" app from the market as well. It solves many mms issues across roms.

Also, to fix the mms issue, download the "tweakker" app from the market. Follow instructions to get mms working again

Alright, I have a few additional questions then I guess, I have the Virtuous rom downloading, as well as the flash gui app. You say flash the zip after i flash the boot.img. I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say that? Do I need to download an additional file or will the boot.img file show up in fastboot after I flash it with the gui app? Am I correct in that I should just be able to flash the virtuous rom without needing to flash a kernel also?

It probably comes with a stock kernel and you can flash your own if its NOT based on 2.04.

It is NOT 2.04, I made very sure of that when buying it after I bought the first one that was =x, luckily I got a killer deal on each of these so I'll make money reselling the 2.04 one.

He was talking about the rom, not your phone. If the rom us based off 2.04, such as viper, you can't flash a custom kernel.

OK..from what I see. I'm betting you have a bad download. Try to download the kernel again and flash it. If you're tab is up and running you can grab the zip and flash it from recovery...just wipe cache and dalvik cache...flash kernel..but you need to make sure that kernel will boot with the ROM you have flashed...
If you're looking to just upgrade to the newest version of overcome. I would suggest you to get the zip file..wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system...then flash the ROM zip from recovery...
Also...are you're recoveries on this device separate from you're kernel or tied together...
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 AM ----------
Edit...I just read that if you trying to flash cm 10.1...you need to restock because of the partition changes...

Second or third paragraph in the guide you linked me to...
Also, based on experience, if you want to upgrade to other ROMs in the future you will have to keep your stock GB ROM file, your gt-p1000_mr.pit, the dbdata.tar and the entire Overcome kit (kernel and ROM). You will need all of them in the future because I've found that to install a new ROM you have to repeat the entire process of restocking to GB, then installing Overcome Kernel and ROM, then installing whatever ROM you want. It sucks, but it's the only way I've seen so far.
My take on this is that you need to go back to stock GB...then overcome...I'll read more to make sure..just thought I'd share this real quick as I just seen it..

Read that guide you linked...man. The answers are there for you...I just read some more of it...
But basically...you need to go back to GB...but first you need to flash the pit file from Odin to repartition the partitions...then Odin the GB ROM ...then overcome..its all in that guide...read...read...read.

Man...there is a great guide with pics if you click on the Google docs link...anyway.
You need to flash the overcome 4.0 kernel tar using Odin...let it do its thing..it changing system files. It will boot. After it up...boot to that recovery and flash the wipe all zip( put this on youre device before you flash the kernel )..reboot. You should now be able to flash any ROM you want from this setup..

Android crashing on every ROM?

Hi.
So, my problem is very basic. On every ROM I get the same error with something like "Android.system.com has stopped."
So I was thinking.. hm.. this could be the kernel.. but most likely the ROM has it own kernel. But I tried to flash this Kernel. Using this ROM with KK. But now it's just stuck at the HTC boot screen. How can I get rid of that stupid kernel (or make it work) and get a ROM working? I cant really see the problem.
Oh, and I'm on the International version.

So you installed a kernel compatible with 4.2.x and a ROM that is either 4.3 or 4.4, hmmm what could the problem be?
---------- Post added at 09:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:54 PM ----------
I have another idea for you, read the instructions for the ROM you installed. Just to help you out here is step 1 of the instructions:
1) Reboot in bootlader. Flash boot.img included in rom zip (fastboot flash boot boot.img);
By the way... That was sarcasm my friend.
The only way you can survive here is to learn how to read.
