About a couple of weeks ago my battery started charging to over-voltage, nothing unusualy that I recall happend there. Anyway he started overcharging and keep showing that he is charging even after unplugged. He charges up to 4.2~ volt which is way over 3.7 wherehe should be.
Anyways I've tried to calibrate the battery so I rooted the phone but no luck. So I tried to move the files from the phone in case I'll have to give it back to a shop to fix it ( which I would prefer not to do) so I discovered the phone doesn't see the computer. It starts charging and in download mode they see each other perfect but in normal conditions no way.
I've tried to reinstall drivers and plug with different cables and different computers but no luck. Anything I can do that I haven't tried yet to make him see the computer?

Hi!
I know that are simillar threads about this, but none of them have the answer to my problem. I read them all.
As many others, my Galaxy S 2 started to give that error after the upgrade to ICS (in my case, I did it because my phone sent me the "alert" directly, not because I tried to upgrade it through Odin or similar).
My problem now is that the phone is not even detected by my computer in Download Mode, If I remove the battery for 10 minutes and add it again, it does show like if the battery ran out of charge and does not start, if I plug it to the wall charger then show as charging and then can start it, but the "charging suspended voltage too high" message show every 20 seconds.
I tried to clean the usb with a toothbrush, tried also with the "knife method" but nothing of that helps. I would like to even downgrade the OS to a 3.x version, but can't make the computer recognize the phone in Download Mode. Any help would be appreciated.
I drove myself mad chasing this one a couple of weeks ago, it does indeed seem to be a problem with the connection between the USB plug and the phones mainboard.
I did find a post by a Samsung engineer in which he claimed it was a common problem and that he was seeing 3 or 4 a day.
I was lucky in that mine was solved by gently pushing the male internal connector gently forwards (upwards if the phone is on its back)
If you think logically, a usb/mainboard connection problem does make sense, in as much as there are so many differing symptoms and the claimed successes by cleaning, I would guess in these instances, the cleaning has in fact, simply moved the connector back into position.
This is a pretty poor show for Sammy, there seem to be more and more S2's failing in this way as time goes on, my own phone has only ever been charged in the Samsung dock, and still fell foul of it!
I would give repositioning the connector another try, pull the battery and use a wooden toothpick or similar, I used a fruit knife, but wouldn't recommend it. If you cant get it back in shape, I'm afraid you will have to send it back to Samsung

1. if you have warranty and not used odin, better take it to the samsung service center.
or
2. try to get a full charge battery from your friend and finish your job in dwnl mode using odin
or
3. try usb jig method to reset and start your mobile in recovery/dwnl mode.. you can search the forum on this and there are lots of posts reg this.
explains the randomness
If the connector moves its presumably broken connection with motherboard. Wonder if a teeny drop of superglue.....
Its odd how its become a feature after ICS but I suppose if its an age/ wear and tear thing that works too. Mine is drvibg me nuts too
Not solved with Stock ROM
Im also having the same problem . Not able to fix it. But if u want to connect to PC , just connect ur phone to PC and restart the phone. Then the drivers will installed and it will detected . Now u can flash it using ODIN . I tried updaing through the Kies with latest version of ICS patch , now the warning mesasge is not coming , but the battery icon blinks every second and if i check the status it shows NOT CHARGING instead of DISCHARGING
I am having a problem with my Galaxy S3 when plugged into USB. It wont recognize the USB connection via laptop or charge via laptop or Samsung charger. Tried three official Samsung cables and chargers, 2 computers, and still nothing. The only time it recognizes anything is when the phone is in Download Mode. In which I can restore firmware and everything else. However, no matter what firmware I put, it still will not recognized the USB or charge. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
There are different drivers that need to be installed. As it recognizes the download mode seems like CDC driver is installed, but if you download kies, it should install all the necessary drivers automatically. Did you try it with a different computer? If this doesn't help then your last option is to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Downloaded Kies. Has all the correct drivers. Tried two different computers. Have two Galaxy S3's, swapped out batteries. Both batteries are good in one phone. The other phone just wont recognize USB or charge in any situation. Factory reset it 3 times. Cleared everything off the phone. Didnt change anything. Factory ROM no kernel hacks or anything. Cables are genuine Samsung that came with the phone. Used mine and my friend's cable for his S3. When you plug the phone in when the power is off, u can see the battery, but then the screen goes black and doesnt charged. Also we charged up both batteries fully using one good S3 proving both batteries are good. Im out of ideas..Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!!

Well if you say, that you did a full wipe, just curious that after factory reset did you restored it from a backup or started new. I recommend start new. Even if this doesn't help than it definitely seems a hardware problem. Get it checked.
Just wanted to share. I had a Iphone 4s and suddenly it stopped charging through a wall charger and used to charge through a usb, after numerous restores I got it checked and there seems the problem.

Started brand new. Didnt restore from any backups or anything. Didnt root it at all. It seems as whatever the firmware that it uses for charging just stopped working...Im at a dead end...its funny because there isnt any topics online with a single similar symptom.

when i charge it the screen gives a grey battery loading picture
and then just turns black.. i can still acces download mode and use odin..

I have the exact same problem on my note 2, have been searching everywhere but cant seem to find an answer.
First of all hello xda, long time reader, first time poster.
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but instead of starting a new thread i suppose it's better to post here.
I got the same problem a few weeks ago and tried everything software-wise and still nothing. I noticed that when i turn my phone on i get a notification "USB connector connected" which leads me to believe that something is keeping the connector busy and unable to charge/connect exept when in d/l mode. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'd like to try and fix it myself before taking it in for repair.

I have exact same problem. Seemed to occur out of the blue. I took it off the car charger and everything appeared as normal until the next day I go to charge it with wall charger and no response, except for the grey battery image appearing for 2 seconds when and only when powered off and plugging in the charger. Tried many cables/chargers to no avail. There is also no response connecting to a PC, when the phone is on.
For the moment I can charge the battery(s) with an external charger and still use my phone.
I made a simple USB cable current monitor once to measure current consumption of portable devices. Just a 0.1ohm resistor in series with the USB V_BUS (+5V) pin. Since this fault occurred, the V_BUS pin current after plugging in the charger, starts off 250mA for few seconds while the grey battery image appears then the phone shuts down with a 5mA residual current. Clearly the battery is not being charged. Previous to the fault, V_BUS current during full charge is around 950mA. I'm sure its a hardware problem.

Hello,
I got my Vibrant for a year now and its been woking great.
I rooted it and got HoneyBee rom, android 2.2.1.
A few days ago it started behave strange.
Sometimes when I plug it to charger(original) it wont charge and when I disconnect it, it shows the charging icon.
I read that it might be the micro usb port so I cleaned it up..and it sort of half fixed the problems, now it charges but sometimes it just crashes.
When I need to turn my phone on I cannot without having to connected to a charger or a pc usb cable.
Tried opening the phone and cleaning from the inside, rerooted, tried deiffrent rom, factory reset, nothing really worked.
Now the phone is working but its so unstable and I am not really sure of what to do next..
Any help?
Thanks
Hope this helps!
I would try flashing back to orginal stock ROM first. If its an issue with the software then that will work. If still having issues then try changing out battery and see if that helps. Hopefully its that easy and good luck
Thanks for the reply.
Already tried original stock rom, didn't help.
I think its the micro usb port because sometimes I just stick a woden pin inside it when it doesnt work properly and then suddenly it srats to work for a while..
I am really out of ideas, not warranty left so I cant just send it to the dealer..any ideas?
Have you tried wiggling the cable on the port side until it does something? Also have you tried a different cable. If you have it's definitely a port problem
Running Pa#*ion 13.1 RC and Lovin' It
Yes, I tried a few cables, it does charges now.
The problem is that sometimes the phone turns itself off if it gets any little shock, any little hit..
Tried checking the battery if its loose maybe, everythnig seems fine I even tried putting a piece of paper between the battery and the closing for a better sealing..nothing seems to work.
Some updates:
The phone charges without any problems, the icon of the charging is not stuck anymore after I disconnect it from the charger.
The only problem that the phone turns off at any small shock or movement..
Now, another phone at my work from another person is having the same problems and the only thing we have in common is that we charged with the same charger.
I think it was wet or something and just did some damage to my phone and to his phone.
What can I do? I already opened my phone and cleaned with toothbrush and 95% alchool, everything is clean, dry and stable.
Can it be the battery? I mean, what are those damn turn offs I'm getting..battery? usb port? any idea? I am out of warranty..
I have never had this issue before so i'm coming for some help as i'm guessing it's something to do with CM. Last night i flashed cm-10.1.3-quincyatt with no problems at all. Everything was working flawlessly. Once i got my phone fully charged and most of my apps setup ect. I did a battery calibration, then used a drainer app to drain the battery completely as normal. plugged the charger back in and it charged to about 75-80% i picked my phone up a bit later to check messages and noticed it was not charging. I unplugged and replugged the charger cord with no success in getting the phone to charge. I've tried numerous cords, usb cables ect. Nothing will charge. It won't even recognize the phone when plugged in usb on the computer. the battery charges fine with an external charger, but obviously i cannot use the phone while the battery is out on an external charging unit. I know someone is probably going to suggest the charging port went bad...i highly doubt that because it was just replaced not a week ago. also, any time i've had a charging port go out, nothing will work in the port, not even a dongle jig. I powered the phone down and inserted my dongle jig to test and make sure, and sure enough, the second the dongle jig is inserted the phone powers on and boots into download mode as it should. I've reset dalvik ect. tried everything i can think of besides wiping and reflashing, as i'm trying to avoid that since i have about 4 hours or so in setting up custom settings/apps ect. on the phone lol. I've noticed browsing the web i'm not the only person experiencing this issue, so can someone please help me in fixing it asap? Thanks in advance for the help, and if a thread was already posted on how to fix this, please direct me to it, because i could not find it.
[Update]
I have wiped and reflashed just to test and see if that would fix the issue, sadly it still will NOT charge.
Hey guys,
unfortunately my 3-year old Razr died the other day. Battery has been an issue for the past few months where I had the battery completely drained 2 times but always got the device back to work. This time it's different though.
I shut down the Phone at aprox. 20% Battery to safe it from low charge. I have NEVER flashed a custom rom, the phone is purely stock. The phone wouldn't turn on the next time i tried. Initially , I had zero reaction. Then, I got at least the white LED when charging with the original adapter. Let it charge a few days. The white light would turn off after a few hours but the phone is still dead.
I replaced the battery with another (new) EB20 but still nothing. I bought a wall charger (1A) and still nothing. I even tried direct charging the battery for a few hours and still no effect. Also, every combination of Power+Volume buttons didnt work.
So i bought a factory cable but still didnt get any reaction. When hooked up to a computer via USB i have a "connecting" and "disconnecting" sound. Once the device was detected as OMAP 3340 but couldnt install it. The problem is that I dont even get the phone into fastboot mode.
On my research, I found these posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055839
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2047750
I think this will be my last try and option, but i have no experience whatsoever with flashing and I find the description very hard to understand and follow. Is there maybe someone who can explain step by step what there is to install/do and in what order? This would be awesome.
Greets,
