Photo Privacy - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a mate who loves showing me his S3 while I still wait for my S2 contract to finish. When he visits my home however, photos from my phone and tablet will appear on the photo gallery of my friend's phone. I have provided him the password for my home wifi network, but i haven't given any other permissions. Passwords to all my google accounts or Google+ accounts have been kept private, yet the photos appear on my friends phone.
Of course when he leaves my wifi network the access to my pics disappears. Is there a privacy setting that i might employ to make my pics more secure? I didn't think that wifi access provided privacy access to photos on all network related devices. Or is this a feature of the S3 that it is able to manipulate wifi access to all related devices? Any ideas would be appreciated.

im pretty sure that it's not an S3 option.. maybe it's on your PC/network setting? u may have ticked some "sharing options"
i hope this will help

Fixed IP?

Is there any way to assign a fixed ip instead of getting it by dhcp? I looked into wireless/advanced like in galaxy s2 but no luck.
Thank you

Yes there is but its almost hidden. You have to touch and hold which ever wifi network you want to access. A menu will popup with the option to Modify network config.
If you tell us the make and model of your router I'm sure someone will walk you through the process. I have my tab on a fixed IP as well.

Thank you, it was holding the wifi network.
I wanted to set it in my tablet, not via router. I already know how to assign it with router. Thank you anyway.

Choosing what apps constantly use web/wifi.

Hello all,
I have a question. Do any of you awesome XDA Peeps know of an app that allows you to select what apps sync with wifi and what apps can use the data provided by cellphone company?
I have a whopping 200mb from AT&T and I keep my mobile data turned off. I use quick settings to turn it on or off. I would like to be able to receive and send emails from my phone, but I don't want my phone to keep syncing or searching for updates, like facebook or weather. The problem I have when I turn my mobile data off is, if someone is sending me a text with a picture, I have to turn my mobile data on or else I wont be able to see the picture because my phone won't automatically download it.
Or is this something that has to be done per app?
I thank you in advanced!

Forgot Pin Need Help

Hey guys,
I forgot my pin. I'm sure i'm entering the right code but still not working. I tried these options:
1.entering the supposedly wrong pin many times, and hoping it would ask me to sign in with my gmail/google credentials. But it never did.
2.Lock screen byppass pro says: not compatible with device from Google play store.
Are there any options left, have important files on the phone.
Thanks
NAndroid backup
Cwm wipe data
Either try restore data only or manually search nandroid backup for your important files
Good practice is to keep important files on an sd card rather than internal

I really need the data. And dont really want to root the S3.
Wipe cache and dalvik might work.

So you want/need these files, you can't get to the recovery screen but you don't want to take the other steps to get your data..

It's not that bad, just do some reading beforehand. There's even a tool that will do it for you. The Q/A forum is also very inviting I may add
Used samsung dive and I'm not up and running.
Why don't you just connect your phone to the computer with usb and transfer the files on to your pc? Or will it not connect with pin lock on?

It's smarter than that. If you connect in USB with the screen locked securely, it doesn't activate until you unlock it at least once.
OP, is it definitely the phone PIN as opposed to the SIM PIN? Cause there's no reason it shouldn't prompt you to override the phone pin with your Google account info

call your phone from another one and answer it. Once you answer hit the menu button and go to settings and quickly add another email account...Yahoo, hotmail, whatever. Can't hang up until done and have to be connected to Wi-Fi. Once it's stored in accounts you can hang up. go to lockscreen and enter that account as user and/or password. Any account you have stored to phone password will work.
Ok. Here's what I found.
In other words I unlocked it using Samsung Dive.
For some reason it locked and didnt accept my pin.
1.if possible dont use pin because for some reason it simply wont give you the option of forgotten and unlock with your google account.
2.If locked with pin you cant access files via pc.
3.so activate samsung asap and stay away from pin. Maybe this is a bug?

Application manager on Settings slow

Hey, everybody!
I have a little issue with my i9300: when I go to the Settings menu, Application manager, the list of Downloaded application takes 30 seconds or more to show the used space for every application. If I select an application while such info is not present, the Details show "Computing..." and it usually takes the phone about a minute to show the details.
Does anybody have this issue? I know it does not really affect the phone, as I can uninstall applications, clear cache, etc; but it's a bit annoying to find this settings section to be slow. And I do not know whether a specific application is slowing it down or what.
I would really appreciate any help, tips, or hints to solve this annoyance.
Thanks!
Mine's the same and has been on every ROM that I've tried.
I guess it has to access the app to ascertain what data is being stored.

Yeah, kinda weird. Now that I remember, I had the same issue on my S2, but my wife does not (S2 as well).
Yeah I've just checked on my wife's S2 and it calculates it quicker but she's got a fraction of the amount of apps as me

[Q] Lockscreen security problem! Confused!

Hi!
On my security options for my lock-screen on my Samsung Galaxy S3, i've been able to choose different options like swipe, pin code, password etc.
Now somewhat, I can't. Anyone familiar with this? It tells me this: "disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage".
I would appreciate if someone would help me out here, as I want to change this. Thanks.
Try forcing an update of busybox from within the Superuser app. Otherwise, you must have inadvertently changed a setting somewhere.

Got it fixed by deleting all of my VPN networks. Thanks to everyone who took their time to respond me.

Thanks for the post joaksle. Deleting my VPN settings also fixed the problem for me. Weird why these settings caused the lock screen options to be disabled!
It's because corporate VPNs have security policies set by their admins, which cause the device to disable certain features. The same thing happens if you set up an Exchange email account. I think that the policies are set by the company IT admin as per company requirements, so you won't see the same behaviour with every VPN or exchange account. Of course I might be wrong about it depending on the company, so someone please correct me I am. The idea seems to be that pattern unlock and face unlock are relatively easier to crack than a traditional PIN code lock, so they disable these methods and allow only the PIN lock (or more methods depending on the policy).
