You mean on your Prime right ? Cause JB on my prime and many other users here it is working as the name says.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
Everything is working wonderfully smooth on my Prime since the update to JB 4.1.1.
I'll be honest, I only have a weeks worth of experience with Android and the ICS that came on this but smoothness, operability etc... I don't see a huge difference.
Not a complaint. I was fine with ICS and am fine JB. The only thing that seems to have truly changed is the fact that now I don't have the wierd video issue on the left edge in JB.
For me it feels like I save 0.5 seconds on every tap/action with JB, it adds up quite a lot if you use it often. It's certainly not a huge boost, but for me personally it was also fine before. Biggest boost for me is faster switching between apps, with ICA I had some apps which took quite some time to load again if I switched to "desktop"/ an other app.
Also if you feel no difference and you're not satisfied, try a factory reset, according to the feedback thread it does wonders to the performance.
Updated to JB and I also don´t think it´s more smooth....I heard that performing a factory reset does the trick! Im going to try it.
If Project Butter is a v-sync'd 60fps transitions across the whole GUI, then no, I don't think it's quite that on JB on the Prime (just test it back to back against a Galaxy Nexus, you should notice the difference in frame rate)
But... it's still miles better than ICS was on the Prime, and it's mostly smooth in anywhere that counts anyway tbh.
Its smooth here but I will say I have NEVER done a factory reset and my Prime worked great but this time since its the what 2nd major OS update I updated to JB and then did a factory reset so I would do it.
I've done the factory reset and I have to agree. I'm a little disappointed that this doesn't perform as well as as JB on my Nexus 7. That device just feels like it puts my Prime to shame. It was quicker after the reset but even in performance mode it's not as snappy as the Nexus 7 which is disappointing since in performance mode the Prime has a higher clock speed. They both have the same number of pixels so I wonder if it has to do with the size of the screen. You'd figure since they are made by the same company on basically the same hardware that Asus would be able to have this perform just as well as the Nexus 7.
Yes with JB Prime more faster and smoother then ICS. But Nexus 7 more faster and more smoother. Nexus 7 and Prime have simular hardware, but Nexus more more and more faster and smoother. My Galaxy Nexus with low hardware ( two core) more faster and smoother then Prime with simular resolution

what you mean off? I'm sure project butter is just code change in JB to make it faster and smoother if codes not used then it simply cant be 4.1.x can it?
I haven't really noticed any difference either. I occasionally feel like there's the tiniest hint of a speed increase, but then I just wonder if I'm only noticing it because I'm looking for it. Haven't done a factory reset, but then I never even filled half of my 64Gb of storage. I was planning on resetting after the update, but now I can't root and so can't backup all my apps.

user experience is better. i had ics with build.prop tweaks and JB is as fast as that without tweaks
The big difference on JB is the speed of installing apps from Google Play. No more laggy as ICS

At first, I just accepted the OTA and let it update itself. Honestly, after that it was better - but I was disappointing that there wasn't a bigger improvement. So I went ahead and did a factory reset and that seemed to make a big difference for me - for the better. I did lose root along the way and have not been able to get it back. But I would say that after the factory reset, it was definitely noticeably more smooth and responsive than it was under ICS even though under ICS I was rooted and had all apps I didn't want frozen with Titanium backup.
I finally got updated to JB last night (after much hassle), and I instantly noticed that everything is much snappier, smoother, just generally quicker. Opening/closing apps, moving between home screens, scrolling content, etc, is all much nicer for me now.
Project butter is on, but the transformer prime itself is just a tad bit laggy, which is probably what you are noticing.
For me with ICS everything was ok. There were some slowdowns but nothing serious. Browsing was ok. No ANR's except when downloading torrents or something, then everything was slow and had lots of ANR's but just pressing 'wait' on the ANR and everything went ok.
Right now with JB I have noticed that it's not really smoother, it's the same. The widgets sometimes don't load or take like a second to load. In ICS widgets came instantly with the homescreen. When browsing, it's slower to have multiple tabs loading. When downloading torrents everything is REALLY slow and totally UNUSABLE. It was very slow with ICS but still usable.
So actually for me, I didn't see any advancement. I don't understand because everybody is so happy. I really like the tablet I'm just frustrated why it's so bad at multitasking ... why can't it just give priority to the task in focus and let the task in the background go slower? Also it has 4 cores and create stunning graphics and games, it can load maps and all kinds of textures as fast as consoles, why not a simple interface? This just boggles my mind.
I had stock ICS.
I upgraded to JB and then did a factory reset and reinstalled all my aps.
Was ICS just good with me for some reason or is JB that bad with me for some reason?
I think my prime is way better on JB. The benchmarks are close to ICS, but because of the smoothness of JB the user XP is worth it.
No factory reset, restored root with voodoo root keeper. I have sympathy for those who are having problems.

I dont know if its me but, my Galaxy note i717 tends to lag a lot, i read up online and figured out its due to the Snapdragon S3 processor, which tends to lag a lot. Does anyone else have this issue... what do u do about it...? im thinking about returning it and getting the Galaxy S3. I installed CM9, team perfection rom, and Hybrid and it still lags...
I love the size of the note, and the S-Pen but I really cant have my phone Lagging, it ruins the user experience...
I came from the iphone 4 which was pretty smooth.. it isn't to fast but it didn't lag at all, other than that i think android is a lot better....
Mine is lag free. I'm running Juggernaut AOKP currently, but I rarely saw lag on GB, and never on ICS. Some notes just seem to be more laggy than others. If you're within 30 days, go exchange it for another one, see if its any better. If not, it may be an rogue app, widget, or launcher that is causing it.

you mean caches?
that just frees memory right? how does that actually speed the phone up though? because android automatically closes program and frees memory already doesnt it?
I'm running OnlyOne ICS ROM and have zero lag. Give this ROM a try. It is the smoothest ICS ROM I have flashed thus far.
Im running with Team Perfections objection. Zero lag.
It is my understanding that the caches aren't memory, but temporary files for applications that can cause problems. Wipe 'em first, Dalvik cache too.
Try v6 supercharger to null the lag. Rememberber in ics there is no custom kernel yet...

I am running the Hybrid or Flap's base roms depending on the day of the week it seems...zero lag.
I returned my first Note due to the backlight bleed on the buttons (white version) and was shocked at how much better the second Note was. Originally I thought I had made a mistake in purchasing it. The phone was slowish and the SPen sucked. It would hesitate at everything that it did. I even did a wipe on it to no avail. The second phone brought a smile to my face. Still does!
The S3 is a nice phone and you wouldn't lose either way.

The phone isn't the issue...it's the software.
Just look at the size of the latest ICS leak. 1.1* gigs.
Then look at CM9-- 150 megabytes.
There you have it...950 megabytes of crap. Just a few crappy lines of code can bring a phone down to it's knees.
Not to mention, i've seen the fastest phones available brought down to their knees. If you have 9 pages of widgets, don't expect your phone to be blazing. It takes a lot more to run a widget than it does a 4x5 row of static icons. That's sooooo 1995.
stock GB rom, no lag
this phone runs AMAZING with ICS, really.. better than my friends HTC one X Tegra 3 CPU. Wait until samsung drops the official ICS update. The only one ROM was AMAZING, however I got a lot of bugs that I could not live with.

Really? I'm using onlyone and it was 650mb. I wonder if cm9 is faster is than onlyone.
Not sure if this is just me or everyone, but I noticed that when after flashing a rom and starting blank and fresh with no apps installed and with the HTC Sense pages at default with the preloaded widgets. At this point the whole phone is fast and very snappy and very smooth when swiping between different home screens. Even if you rotate the phone to landscape the phone rotates very fast.
BUT
As soon as I start installing my games and apps from the Play store, the whole phone just doesnt become snappy anymore. With 1GB Ram and Dual Core 1.5 GHz S4 CPU shouldnt the phone stay snappy no matter how many apps you have installed? This seems to be the case for every Sense phone.
It seems like the slow down comes when I start opening a couple apps and customizing the home screens. I tried down grading to 5 screens instead of 7 with a couple widgets such as the weather clock and I have my apps grouped into folders ect. At this point swiping between screens is a little jerky but if I keep swiping it goes back to being smooth.
My previous phones Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 didnt have this problem. I could have all 7 pages maxed out with widgets and apps filling up each page and the phone would remain snappy with no lag.
I never been a fan of the Snap Dragon CPU. I had better experience with Exynos.

EXACTLY!
Yeah, im aware that I can switch to Nova launcher ect, but if that was the case, I would have kept my Galaxy Nexus. I want to beable to use the nice fancy Sense Widgets but the phone shouldnt have to slow down like it does.
I found this to happen on each rom I been on and I tried just about each of them in the Dev section. I havnt tried %100 stock because, soon as I got the phone I rooted and used a custom rom so im not sure if pure stock has this problem.
Maybe a Dev can chime in with a solution.
I can agree to an extent..no matter what though, this phone will always be faster than a galaxy nexus. (Don't know bout jellybean). That thing stuttered like a mofo when I was testin it.
Anyways, the phone tends to slow down and speed up at will. Could be a combination of cache or resources that sense needs in order for it to run that bogs memory. (Like adding different widgets, apps, etc) Sense just isn't well made like the pure android experience imo. It needs more fluidity within the system to run smoother and this is probably why you experience lag every now and then. Overall, I'm satisfied. It doesn't slow down too much. Still feels like a superior device even with its flaws (sense UI)

i noticed that too. my phone seems to be getting slower and slower. my gf's galaxy nexus with jellybean is much faster and smoother than my phone. i can't wait for cm10.
its not your phone, rom or sense. it's the play store. it happens on stock or rooted. even does it on my wife's 3D(stock unrooted). I blame it on when the play store changed over to the format it uses, now. even noticed it on her epic touch before I gave her my 3D. just my opinion I know. otherwise I have no lag.

I'm not sure what it is. All I know my Galaxy Nexus never slowed down with AOKP and CM and my Epic Touch was also always smooth. Can't say that about this phone. The camera is nice and screen is nice but can't say that about this Snap Dragon so far.
Well this damn phone flies with Nova Launcher..HTC should be ashamed of them selves for still continuing to have sense be as slow as it is.
And I'm afraid even project butter in jelly bean won't help because HTC will find a way to slow things down

I have absolutely no speed decrease what so ever. Stock or Custom Rom. Try uninstalling aps that you don't need system or data. Try locking sense into memory threw bp. That will definitely help IMO. Also how you set your phone up will always play a major role in performance. If anyone wants to know how I run mine to compare to there setup just hit me with a pm. I have over 40 apps installed and I have no lag in anything I do. This phone is a Monster lol. I've had the hero,evo4g,evo3d, and none of them can match the performance of this phone. Just my opinion.

In fact i would go as far to say that hers is smoother than mine!

Smoothness doesn't necessarily mean speed though
Eg. Reset transition speeds to 1 if you have them on 0.5 is a good way of demonstrating what I mean

I kinda get what youre saying. I have 3 devices on which I have the new cm10, dli8 and lh1. LH1 wins in all categories except for jellybean smootness of the dli8 leak. ICS is still king.
remember, these are still leaks, may still be bugs...
No. The jellybean is smoother. And cm10 is waaaay faster
People just have different ideas of smoothness. Some people think the Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean is smoother than the GS3 with ICS, not a chance, Some stupid people even think that the Iphone 3Gs is smoother than the GS3, which is just plain retarded. Some people think that the iphone 4 and 4s kill even the high end Androids in smoothness, wrong again. Some people think that sense 4.0 isn't a stuttery mess and that the One X is actually close in performance to the GS3, you guessed it, wrong.
Just go with your eyes.
If i were to hazard a guess. AOSP probably has about 30 frames of animation that just cycle every half a second, locked at 60fps. While touchwiz has like 40 frames of animation or more that is usually locked 60fps but not always like JB. So yeah, during the times that ICS touchwiz is at 60 fps, it should appear smoother.
Basically if ICS doesn't drop below 60fps or have memory que issues then technically we wouldn't see project butter. We don't even technically see it. We only notice it when the system chugs, and if project butter kicks in properly, we won't even see that. lol
Well its subjective, you need to ask yourself what do you mean by smoothness? For me its fast respons when opening apps and having no lag or stutterings. For this JB leak li8 does the job
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
people keep raving about how smooth the iphone is but it's noticeably slower than android, esp the high end ones.. the smoothness is just there to cover the lags
I have owned 5 iPhone's and I can tell you now that ios strongest point is the consistently fast transitions. You can move around the OS 10x faster than android. Android is filled with loads of pointless animations and transitions that just make it slower.
I found my problem to be a widget called application manager. It caused a stutter in my transition from Page to Page. I minimised this and now it's smooth.
But I'd still argue that there is no difference between my girlfriends ICS and my JB

All in all jelly bean is nicer looking and snappy when scrolling where it may not have been with ICS however I've tried 3 different roms now and am experiencing a system wide lag when performing basic transitions like going back in an app or clicking a link within it, even typing like I am right now it occasionally misses a beat then speeds back up. Its to the point where it takes almost 10 seconds to click on a link in facebook before the next action progresses. I would assume its the cpu or ram but not sure how to address the issue. Any help would be appreciated

Turns out it was a memory issue (obviousely). It seems inherent in the initial build for our device the ram management is simply not on par with how ICS handled it. I had less than 50mb free memory but you've got to consider that HTC sense has already been allocated its memory so it shouldn't lag the whole system. Hopefully the next update will address the issue...til then I ran v6 supercharger script and patched the framework for new minfrees.
There's a lot of sense related bloat in the stock ROM. If you're not interested in bloat, try cm10. Everything that matters works as of 1/16. Cm10.1 is fancy, camera will shape up when deck isn't sleeping. Just don't go for a cheap lazy king of cm, especially if it's one of 5 by the same winzipper, or if it crams 6 or 7 buzzword in the topic title like "Linaro optimized" or "battery boost." I dunno whatever.

I've been an s3 for almost 7 months now. From last few months on touchwiz JB 4.1.2 based ROMs, I feel my phone has become sort of slow (not exactly laggy though), but slow in opening critical phone apps like dialer or contacts, etc Also launcher redraws have become lot frequent now..
I remember when I initially got my phone with ICS, it felt so snappy coming from sgs2 that I didn't move to custom ROM that for few months as I just didn't feel the need. Somehow, its lost that wow now .
Is it because I have gotten used to the speed and craving for something better or was ICS really faster, you guys also feel?
P.S. I don't think its number of apps related as I have roughly the same number of apps now which I was using back then...
I actually feel that it's slightly slower too, but I still prefer jellybean because the lagginess is not very significant and I also use the multiwindow function quite often

I don't see too much difference but is true in some times importante apps such as dialer load not as faster as i like.
This behavior i think is in ICS too, or at lesast i remeber
AW: Was ICS faster than JB on S3
The EMR2-build in combination with locked dialer and contacts by JKAY framework is THE MOST fluent phone I've ever expected. No lag at all, full Touchwiz functionality and complete AOSP look. Guys? We have a winner!

true that, but ironically JB was supposed to make things faster with project butter and all
anyway I was seriously thinking of reverting back to ICS, the only thing which I'm gonna miss would be the improved notifications, don't use multi-window at all and about google now..its a nice concept but still haven't seen good use for it yet. Not sure what else was changed from ICS to JB transformation.
Though i'm not sure, if I can flash ICS simply, as I have upgraded my modem and camera driver. Is there any precautions/procedures I need to follow ?
