Whatsapp Permanent closes - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm using RR 3.0.9 with siyah 4.1.5 by changmin.
I encountered the below issue:
whenever I hold back to kill on whatsapp, after a period of phone on time(eg. 1 or 2 hours at least), the phone freezes, and the only thing active is the power menu to reboot phone. You won't be able to do anything unless you reboot your phone.
Anyone encountered the same issue?
4wipes done but the problem still persists.:crying:

I have whatsapp here and I've done that many time and my phone never froze.
1. Are you 100% sure the problem is caused by killing whatsapp?
2. Have you tried to isolate the problem?

if you're talking about isolating, how about I never had problem with HBTK feature making my phone freeze on other apps..
yepp..it can't be freezing with I am using a different launcher isn't it? that means it doesn't have any issue with launcher too.. just HBTK and whatsapp specifically..
perhaps you would wanna recommend you ideas in mind that you think I have not done isolating the problem?
I will then tell you whether I have done it or not.. =)
tyvm and appreciate for that..:good:

Try this:
1. Use titanium backup pro to freeze all your user apps except whatsapp,
2. use the default launcher,
3. Restart your phone.
4 test if the problem persists.

[Q] Issues with the contacts on LPH ROMs

Hi, the truth is I´m having a little strange issue. First I thought it was a problem in a ROM. but after trying a few LPH ROMs and start removing things, I have concluded that it is the contacts syncro. I´ll try to explain myself a bit better to see if someone comes up with some solution.
If I install any LPH ROM (I tried 5 or 6 different) and I skip the gmail account, I have no problems in access to the contacts app or the phone one, but when I sync with gmail two things happens:
1. I can still go to the phone, from there to favorites and from there to all contacts. In this way, I see contacts perfectly.
2. But If I go to the contacts application The screen locks turns into to black, after that the phone application also crashes and I have to reboot.
I tried to correct permissions. Even with a cache cleaner (read that cleaning the cache of the contacts could help) but I'm pretty sure it will not be the correct way to clean the cache of contacts.
Let's see if someone comes up with a little something becouse I´m running out of resources ...
Thanks and best regards

if you have back up your data etc....... You better flash to root stock, to see if problem solved. Then take it step by step on another rom.

[Q] Constant LAg & F/C

So I've read the homescreen / re-draw lag posts & Ive tried everything suggested with no luck.
Problem is my GS3 lags constantly, bringing up messages, contacts, app drawer, everything. On the lockscreen the ripple lag is like 2-3 seconds, its getting extremely frustrating. Ive tried checking in OS monitor for a CPU lockup but theres nothing I can see that would be causing it.
Im running Omega V3, Apex launcher, on Vodafone Australia.
The other issue im having is my browser is f/c ALL the time, pretty much everytime I use it, it locks up for about 10 secs then returns to homescreen with the message saying Interent has stopped working.
Have reinstalled ROM twice, its runs super quick until I reinstall apps from Titanium Backup, then it just drags. Would there be a conflict with an app / data from my GS2 backup? Is there a way I can run a log to check? I have Android Assistant, and have checked the log, but im too much of a noob to know what to look for, although it seems to be running a lot of debug lines but I dont know if thats normal..
Thanks in advance.
The restoration of backup sounds like the cause. I recommend you restore the apps one at a time or in small batches. That way you can figure out which app is causing the problem.
my apex launcher is usually fast , but i've aswell that 3sec lag when i push homebutton.but that happens only sometimes.
ive also ticked that option to keep launcher in ram...
iam using omega rom and no bloatware or s voice

Thanks man all sorted. I think an app, most likely APex, was trying to force a certain screen resolution..
I have also had problems with titanium restoration. Also solves the problem.

[GO] Phone answering lags on 4.1.2

Maybe some of you recognised this problem too, but after I used the search button I didn't find anything.
So after I upgraded my ST27i from ICS to JB, I'm experiencing heavy lags when someone calls me. Usually when I try answer the call, I have to wait about 8-10 sec to actually answer that call and to start talking.
I've tried it on stock JB, and custom JB too but both of them have the same issue. On ICS everything is working fine without bugs.
Anyone got some solution for it?
Best Regards,
+1 same here. Sometimes when dialling, too.

Hi. Any solutions for this problem? Have been facing the same thing for months...
Delete call history
I think the only way to fix this is to download apps from play store call "Ex dialer"nearly all Xperia u user rate it 5 star.
Correct me if I'm wrong
If you have CWM, wipe cache partition and use Seeder 2.0
This is a ram management problem causes phone to release all apps in memory and then reboots phone I have solved my problem by installing clean master from the play store and after its setup not 1 hang from phone.apk calling out and incoming fine

Finally I got some new results today, after struggling with this problem for months.
First I tried all the suggested methods (clearing the call log, installing all those apps), and none of them worked -- except CWM that I didn't try, because I wasn't root.
What solved my problem, was to do a clean flash (and wipe everything during flashing). The problem was totally gone. Note that "wiping every thing" during flashing is a key thing that I guess last time I hadn't done.
Everything was good until I restored all my backed up contacts -- around 1500 contacts. Then it was laggy again!
Then I again did a hard reset. Problem was gone again. But this time I was lucky enough to restore the contacts, and have my system in a healthy state -- no lags so far! I don't know what was different this time, but it's got to have something to do with the contacts!
I'll keep you updated if I find any changes -- worth reporting.

Just remove any VOIP software you have like viber, skype , etc. I know you might be using them but yeah sony's rom has issues with viber specially which causes this lag.. if u wanna use viber use a cm rom or stock ics, or gb. JB is buggy in terms of 3rd party VOIP support

[Q] Do I need to flash a device if OS crashed?

My SGS2 was suddenly rebooted itself when I connected it to my PC. It didn't happen before and it does not happen now.
My question is, when something goes wrong and the phone suddenly reboots or a specific app crashes or whatever (just one time, not on a regular basis) how can I know if any damage was done, to data for example, like a corruption, and whether or not should I reinstall this app or wipe and flash the phone?
I was just about to finish configuring settings and installing apps after a clean ROM installation when it happened, and so I thought about doing everything all over again because I wanted it to be "perfect".
If anyone shares this annoying habit I'm sure you will know what I'm talking about. I figured out I might just ask a pro about this thing I usually do, as I am aware that it is possible that there is absolutely zero logic to it and it is all in my head
Thanks.
P.S: Didn't post in the device forum because I figured it is a question that is based on the Android OS nature rather than subjective to a specific device model.

I was hoping for a little bit more info
Is there any reason to re-flash just because of a single crash? if so, please elaborate as I am very willing to understand the considerations.
Thanks.
Anyone?
why dont you do a research on logcats !!
if you can understand logcats fine or else just post the logcats in the forum of the app that causes crashing!!

Because I'm not asking about troubleshooting a crashing app... nor a faulty OS installation.
I'm asking about the general idea of re-flashing a phone just because the OS suddenly crashed, one time only, without any special use for the moment.
You said your phone rebooted after you connected it to the pc. This the problem. No need to reflash imo, just close all apps when connecting next time.

what do you mean by OS suddenly crashed.. is it that it rebooted all of a sudden out of nowhere or are there some system process that gets FC ?
if its happened one time only no need to reflash... if problem exists reflash with proper wipe..

Kind of out of nowhere, yes, but even if it had something to do with me connecting it to the PC too soon after starting the phone - I am still curious if a sudden crash (a single one out of nowhere) can make some sort of a damage to any system or app data that it is recommended to re-flash or something.
I really hope you got my point. I used all my English skills to this one!

android can crash when it runs out of RAM. Doesnt necessarily mean that a system app is damaged. if however a system app is damaged it will show up as a FC (force close) rather than a reboot.
so still im of the opininon that you dont have to reflash you rom yet...
How exactly did it work? Did you connect your phone to PC and then it rebooted?
By closing all apps i meant removing everything from recents screen.

So you are basically saying that if something wrong happened like a sudden reboot, and it doesn't happen again, you wouldn't mind about it. Correct?

Yeah. But it didn't happen since. Just this one time.
I got curious about what might have caused it and what might have happened because of it and decided to ask here if it makes sense to re-flash
your rom is fine. The reboot used to happen to me from time to time when i plugged it into the computer or when i uninstalled an app. It had something to do with an app being executed in the background and not releasing every ressource. This didnt happen on the last few builds for me though...

normally not. if you dont have fc over fc then you dont need to reflash

If so, how?
try to reset the phone (from the phone menus, or better by hard resetting the device). Note, u will lose all the data and settings !!!
though most probably u have too many apps running simultaneously in the background and u run out of memmory.

try to use a taskmanager app, to see what is running and how much memory it uses.
Also install greenify, even if u dont have root, and set it to kill the apps that are not necessary to you.
Things like this happen on all phones when there is no ram, bad optimization of the ROM or bad ram management (phone tried to kill the apps to keep core procceses up).
