Hey all, I'm new to posting but have been lurking for some time now. Last night I got out of my car and I sat my Prime on top of it for a second so I could get other things out. Well I got distracted by something and ended up leaving it on top of the car all night :crying: ... It rained and when I noticed it was missing I went to check in the car and found it on top... I thought it would be dead for sure but when I picked it up it was still on and the screen was working so I got excited but it didn't last long because now the actual touch screen wont work, meaning I can't unlock it or do anything but look at it (btw it's unlocked with a custom rom). Now is there anything I can do? like maybe replaced the screen/digitizer, because it's doubtful that ASUS would fix it.
Thanks,
Derrick

Just an update... I let the Prime sit overnight powered off and now all seems well. Looks like I lucked out.

On friday my eris got ran over by a car. Although the screen is all cracked up the phone works perfectly. All aspects of the screen works. I am shocked that the phone worked. Thank goodness for insurance. My replacement will be here tomorrow. Just praying that it will not come with the 1.49 boot so I can root. If all else fails then I will switch phones with my wife.
Best phone for the money!
lol! That's crazy >.<
Hell I had to drop my leaked eris about 50+times before the trackball even began sticking to the left. Even then it was still running fine, well until it wouldn't recognize a charger, then I got it replaced for a new phone that I rooted right away lol.
im rather clumsy and i use my phone ALL the time. the thing hasnt had a problem not even a tiny scratch on the screen. the thing is like hurcules or like a god. there is a reason they named it after the god of jealusy
i drop it all the time, no harm done save for a few scratches and dents...
a couple nights ago i actually dropped it from pretty high up into some... alcoholic beverage that was spilled on the floor. totally shattered... battery went one way, cover the other. the volume buttons actually came OFF the battery cover.
i picked all the parts right then and set them on a table. the next morning? put it together, works good as new!
Got the replacement today but my dumb luck got hboot 1.49 hboot on so hard for me to get root
Is the newton ring issue fixed in newer batches of GTab?
Recent buyers plz provide input
TIA
I got mine a couple weeks ago and saw the issue the other day when I was outside in the heat. It went away when I went back inside, and haven't noticed it since.
My first one had the problem. I could do the refrigerator trick but it just came back. Staples had sold out so they ordered me one. It came in ups ground the box was so hot because here in TX its like 105°... Opened up the box and it was just fine... Even pressing hard on the screen didn't bring it back.
I just got mine on Friday, and after being outside for about 10 minutes, this happened to me. It would go away but would come back after pressing on it. I got new one today from Staples, waiting to see how it does.
I noticed it on my first tab and decided to finally take it back after two weeks. Havent seen the issue on th new one and its been a couple weeks. I dont know if its gotten as warm as it did then though. I beleive it has.

For those without the problem did you put it in a pouch or a case in sleeping mode...cos i think this is where it can happen. Outside a case or a pouch i didn't notice the ring...Last weekend i went to Prague, with my tab as a cool guide...and when i arrived at the hotel, the "Oily" ring was there...the tab was in sleeping mode in my acer case.. Since i'm back at home i put it one time in the fridge in order to make it disapear, but it comes back each time i use it....but now at home the tab is no more in a case and even if i used it...the ring is smaller each day...and may disappear totally at the end of the week. So if those who have "new" tab could test their Galaxytab in this condition it would be helpful to know if the issue is really solved.
Thks to all.
i read somewhere in the web that this was because of the heat.....I live in the caribean so its hot always, and has happend to me twice, but it hasnt happen again
I just can't freaking stand it.
Starting about three weeks ago I have been having major problems with my Streak doing spontaneous restarts. I tried everything. Nothing worked.
I went as far as to use the Wiki instructions to install a version one generation old on the phone so that it would do an over the air update to the current release, which it did. Didn't help. Whenever I used the phone for a long call or to play a game or use navigation, anything that kept it actually doing something for several minutes, it would start rebooting. Sometimes it would freeze to where I had to pull the battery. I even bought a disposable phone while on vacation so I could have something I could count on.
So last week I called Dell support and described what is going on. When the tech heard the symptoms and that I had already done a factory reset and fresh loads and more factory resets, he quickly decided to replace the phone.
I have had the phone since April 2011 and in May I dropped it in my living room. It has worked perfectly but does have a crack in the glass that is purely cosmetic and is not why I tried to get it replaced. The phone has worked perfectly until recently.
I'm banging my head on the desk because, wouldn't you know it, the phone has been working perfectly since I called in. We didn't do anything, just talked about the phone, and it has had one restart in the last week. As a test, I used the Navigator for the 30 mile commute home from work. My wife called me, the phone answered, worked flawlessly on speaker, and when she hung up the Navigator came right back up as smooth as you could ask for. The one game I play right now (Grave Defense) has worked flawlessly except for one restart in the middle of a game. I couldn't ask for the phone to be better.
So what do I do when the replacement arrives? I'm not sure if I trust the phone not to start screwing up again, but I'm going to be sending back a phone that is apparently working fine but has a cracked glass. We all know the entirely reasonable conclusion they will come to.
So what should I do?
Maybe you should call Dell and tell them that the screen is cracked. Find out if they will even take it back. They may not, and wind up charging you for the new one. I've not heard of them doing this, mind you, but it sounds possible.
They may just tell you to send in the old one anyway, but you may as well let them know that the screen is cracked, since they are going to find out when they get it. Hopefully since you already have a return authorization, it wont matter...
Has anyone noticed it seems to be easier to get a replacement since they EOL'd the Streak?

Maybe they're trying to clear out stock?
I had no problem sending it back with the cracked glass as long as the problem had nothing to do with the glass. Now the damned thing is working, so I have an issue with it.
I really don't understand this phone. I didn't change anything and it is like a different phone.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Oh, I thought the screen cracked after you called them.
Nevermind. As long as you disclosed the cracked screen, don't hesitate to send it back. If it was bad once, no reason to think it wont be again.
There are definitely some flaky ones.
From some posts I've read, it does seem as though they are being unusually friendly about returns lately. Prolly just my imagination...

Oh, I never said I did that. I don't want people to think they are knowingly taking back units with cracked screens. The tech didn't ask if it had ever been dropped and I didn't see the point in volunteering the information as it had nothing to do with the problem I was having. I know that is not exactly taking the high road, but as I said, the screen isn't why I'm exchanging it. I considered swapping my cracked screen and the unbroken one from the replacement and sending my flaky phone back with the good screen, but they would probably notice that the phone had been dismantled and assume that is the source of the problem. I'm between a rock and a hard place here, but it's my own fault. I'm probably going to end up with a bill for the replacement phone, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I'm mostly just astonished at how freaking strange the behavior of this phone is. It was working fine then lost its mind for about three weeks and then decided that it was going to start working the way it is supposed to again with no interference from me. It was flaky in the morning, I did nothing to it, and that afternoon it started behaving itself.
Well, it froze up good yesterday. Tried everything short of swinging a dead cat over my head in a cemetary at midnight and got it working again, just in time to retire it.
When I got home the replacement was waiting for me. Smooth as silk. I played the hell out of my new favorite time sucking game last night (Stupid Zombies) and not a single hiccup. I'd love to lose some of the extra apps, but I think I am going to leave well enough alone this time. Now I need to find out how much Dell is going to bill me for returning a unit with a cracked screen, but I'll worry about that when it happens.
Hey guys, been awhile since I snooped around some dev threads here. I have a peculiar case where my digitizer showed signs of dying very regularly before response disappeared sporadically then died totally. After a week of using it with my lap dock, I realised it was clunky and not gonna work for me, especially since I couldn't find a replacement here in Singapore. Then I bought a second hand xperia play as a temporary solution.
Over the last month or so I maintained the battery as I would a fully working phone, but didn't do much with it actually. Then today, I thought I'd try my luck with my screen and just jokingly slid my finger across the lock screen as usual. My other phone rang so I picked it up. Then I looked at my Atrix: its screen came back to life. Does this mean that tender loving care and non usage after a month can bring a dead digitizer back to life?
I'm still in a state of shock
Well my awesome sauce with the note 2 seems to be doing downhill... I LOVE my phone... then all of a sudden yesterday I had it sitting on the arm rest of my recliner.... I accidentally knocked it off on to the hardwood floor and it must have hit just right as it cracked the screen. The phone still functioned fine, but the screen was cracked. I took it to a local cell phone repair shop to have the screen replaced. When they put it back together it wouldn't boot... well then after replacing a button, it booted and they thought that was it. Well after it booted I made a call, and as I set the phone down, I noticed it turned off. So after a couple of more boots and confirmations that tapping it at the top of the device did this, I got a charger. Well with the charger plugged in it does the same thing, which tells me it's not a battery connection as google searching would lead me to believe. Please tell me someone knows something to try and fix this? Should I just cut my losses and buy a used device? I see beans has his on swappa and it's making me consider coming up with the money to do that. Thanks for any input/advice!!!!
Michael
Damn! They're supposed to test it out after they replace the screen and give it back to you. These screen replacements are very sensitive and you have to really use caution when messing with them. I've never heard of this but do you have a case on it or around it at the moment? sorry man. Have you discovered anything else?
Well after he spent some time with my phone last night, he said he thinks he found a loose cable. I picked it up today and it hasn't shut off yet. The screen looks beautiful by the way. Back to playing around with Trents Rom!

Glad the store solved that out. I've had a similar thing if I tap my phone on a table around the camera area it just shuts off as well. Only solution I've found is using the massive case from the 9300mah zero Lemon battery. Adds a sought bit of bulk
