Hay guys I;m thinking about getting a android phone and am on AT&T, love the motorola droids and milestones. Wanted to know if anyone has heard anything on the milestone 4, it never came out so I wanted to know if anyone has heard anything of the phone, romes, facts, release dates, ext. I really love the photon q 4g lte, but its very sadly only for sprint. So the unlocked milestone would be best runner up for me but theres no sigh of it. Thanks alot for your help guys.:highfive:

Hi guys I've had my atrix since the day it came out, its been my first android phone and I've loved all of it. But I was just wondering when the time comes when will you be selling your atrix and for how much? I'm just trying to get ideas on what phone to buy after this and when. I like staying on the bleeding edge of technology.
-thanks for your time.

So in reading the latest news, I came across this article where Samsung states that Verizon specifically asked for a locked and encrypted bootloader for the new SGIII. In fact, the article stated they are the only carrier to ask for it.

I know a lot of us feel like Motorola is not holding up their end of a promise, but perhaps it is a carrier-side issue. A little communication from Moto would help though.
I don't think it's any secret that it is the carriers that want locked boot loaders. Why would Motorola care one way or the other?
Wow, just wow. We got the only locked SG3.

old news
thot this was old and not surprising news
verizon wants total control (monopoly and high prices)their excuse is people altering their phones can screw up their network....riiiight
i never blamed moto they only build what is ordered
And when I bought my phone unbranded and unlocked (international version) why is Motorola still locking my bootloader? I dont even live in the US.
Ya... no surprise vzw wants the bootloader locked! I think back to my evo on sprint... i had unlocked bootloader, and was able to use hotspot for free(sprint wants $30/mo) i was also able to flash full 3g verizon prl's.... what does that mean? I was able to use vzw towers 100% of the time roaming with full 3g data... that means sprint had to pay a lot of roaming fees, for me to try vzw's network b4 i actually made the plunge.... add that to the many other posibilities that an unlocked bootloader mames available, and i can see why they want a locked bootloader.
this razr maxx is my first verizon phone after coming from tmo... are all verizon android phones boot loader locked? is this the reason for such little development on this razr maxx? i didnt look into how healthy the dev for it was... and im going to miss swapping roms! i hate moto blur...

No, all are not locked. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the HTC Rezound are both unlocked.

Verizon phones are a little weird. The OG Motorola Droid was bootloader unlocked, as is the Motorola Xoom. HTC devices are typically locked but the bootloader can be unlocked (or bypassed) soon after released. At the end of 2011, HTC decided to unlocked all of their current phones (Thunderbolt, Rezound, etc). ALL Nexus' (any carrier / any Nexus) are unlocked. Google wont allow a Nexus device to be locked. Unfortunately a lot of other Samsung devices are locked. Hope that helps.

My backup device is wifi only for a reason. I do not need verizon but for now the 1 line I have is good enough for all my phone needs and 69 bucks a month is about as cheap as you can get for a web phone.
The locked loader on the razr is an issue but rooted and an app turns on wifi tethering and works flawlessly, foxfi
they have a right to restrict but I will look to unlocked in the future, I expect to keep my razr for the forcible future. the battery in the maxx is no joke , 2 days using gps, wifi and data
Okay, so here's the deal. I Bought this Photon in March, unlocked the bootloader, got CM7.2 running on it, set up the dock so it works with an external HD and runs shows and movies on my TV. Then, last month Sprint up and cancelled my phone with no warning. I'm on Verizon now with the Droid X2, which I noticed is startlingly similar to the Photon. I already know the Photon can be unlocked for international use, but how would I convince it that it's now a Verizon phone? I've got a couple really simple "You can't do it" with no explanation, but I've seen them for sale on ebay claiming to be usable on Verizon domestic, and in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664212 - which I cannot post on, there are a couple posts towards the end saying that a couple people managed to get theirs up and running on Verizon, albeit with a few bugs.
Now, I'm not expecting miracles, but these two phones are so alike it's not even funny. I don't care about 4G, need 4G, or even *want* 4G access. If flashing my phone somehow irrepairably damages 4G, I really could care less. They're both CDMA/EVDO networks, so there's *got* to be a way to make this work. I know that's an oversimplification, but it's basically true.
As a side note, since the two phones are so similar, is there a way to use the sbf file (it's like, ten meg) that unlocked my Photon to unlock my X2? *edit* Tried it, didn't work. Oh well, worth a shot.

You need to get Verizon to activate the ESN on their network. Which is not likely to happen. But if you can the rest is simple.

Okay, what is "the rest"? I don't honestly know what needs to happen for this to work, which is what I'm trying to find out.
As I said above I currently have a Droid X. My upgrade is up and I'm debating on whether or not to get the S3. I was really gun-ho about it until I heard of all the locked bootloader issues and thought "Oh boy it's the X all over again".
It is my understanding that currently what holds back the X is that it runs it's ICS roms on a gingerbread kernel which causes all sorts of lag and other issues. Being that the S3 is locked down, will it eventually hit this problem?
I mainly want a phone that's dev/manufacturer supported for at least two years, I can deal with the stock rom, but I've come to find that others are far superior. Will the S3 for Verizon be limited in it's roms because of the locked bootloader?
Basically it all comes down to should I get the S3 or wait?
PS~ Switching Carriers is not an option due to living in the middle of bum-f Egypt.
The bootloader i think has been unlocked...YES get the 32gb version of S3..its worth it..
I don't think that it is unlocked yet, there is a bounty on it though. I'm still skeptical. To add to the pressure of upgrading, my fiance wants to swap onto my current family plan to save an extra $40 a month.
What to do what to do.
Okay... so... it seems like hell trying to figure this out... and I'm sure its probably a really dumb question BUT I have to cancel my order for the MAXX before Amazon ships it tomorrow if I can't figure this out. Trying to get info on the MAXX is worse than making my own damn HTC gold card.
The RAZR and MAXX have the same hardware from what I understand? But there are different ROMs depending on what phone you have? I ordered a Verizon MAXX through Amazon Wireless... I have a few questions.
First off, custom ROMs - how does that work?
Secondly, if Verizon pisses me off I understand these have GSM radios with at&t bands (I currently have Straight Talk running off of at&t's postpaid network) but it seems like different models don't support US bands?
I know about the OMAP bomb... Where basically if the bootloader is hacked, the phone basically self-destructs... at least that is what I heard - I haven't ever had to deal with it.
This is more confusing than the gold card mess so can someone please explain to me, within the next few hours, if I should cancel my order and compare the brick ratio to an HTC gold card process?
All I want is a phone that can run CM10 without losing anything but the camera - without having to worry about bricking it. I originally ordered the RAZR 4G... but I canceled the order because of people saying it was anything but durable and I wanted to grab an S3 but I won't pay 150 bucks when I can pay a penny...
Please tell me I didn't just make a huge mistake... My Captivate is on its last legs... the eMMC keeps crashing and I can't use wifi on it or it shuts off the phone when it goes to sleep... even on a stock ROM... I gave away my Inspire (which honestly only "inspired" me to want to smash it into the nearest wall anyway) ... so now I will be stuck with a refurb E-71 that won't power on unless I fidget with it - Unless I made a good choice getting the Maxx.
Any help is greatly appreciated - seriously... I understand the hardware is pretty much the same with the RAZR and RAZR MAXX? Besides the battery?
Sorry, I'm rambling, but for once, my head is spinning... And I already canceled one Moto order today because everyone said the RAZR 4G (that's what Amazon Wireless was calling it) was breaking randomly and the MAXX came highly recommended... I wanted a GS3 - but I don't have the money and besides I heard that the reception sucks on the GS3 and my roommate has one and I think its a plastic toy... Great camera, unlocked bootloader, etc., though...
Basically... if I'm going to leave my 50.71 a month Straight Talk plan and enter into a 2 year contract with Verizon paying 90 a month plus tax just for 1GB of data, I want to make sure I'm getting the right phone...
Razr and Razr Maxx are both Model XT912. The only difference is that the former has a 1780 MaH battery and the latter has a 3300 MaH battery. See this Wiki page.
Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD are both Model XT926. Like the XT912, the only differences between HD and Maxx HD is the battery.
Hi i font know about that omap bomb you mention.. I have had the razor maxx for about 5 months now and i can assure you will love it.. Well at least i do
I have it on ics stock with frequent CM10 booting so you can rest assured that you can relatively safely mess with it
There is a rom installer called Safestrap 3.05 that is probably the best thing ever
It bypass the bootloader by installing roms on a safesystem file that does not tamper with the stock system or bootloader. You can also load roms with custom kernels there
Hope you keepit ń

As gierso says it is a great phone. I have had the Maxx since August.
Don't worry about the locked bootloader.
There is Safestrap as referenced above. It does not mess with the bootloader. For lack of a better term, it "hijacks" the boot process after the stock boot loader loads.
It will allow you to run multiple ROMS kind of like you can dual boot your computer into windows or linux if you wish.
I am running CM10 as a daily, but my factory ROM is still intact..
There are a few more problems on the Jelly Bean ROMs other than the camera. One is bluetooth. Mosst are minor. But with safestrap, if I need to take a video, I can reboot the phone into the stock ROM, take my video, and then boot back into CM10 and use the phone as normal.
You have not messed up. It is a great phone with the best battery life out there.
