Hi all,
I have already unlocked my Sola's bootloader and I have also rooted it using B4nary's tool.
I was able to install CWM via RecoverX v1.4.6. I believe the installation was successful. There were no error message during the installation and I followed all instructions (rooted phone, super user permissions , busybox, etc).
I was not able to enter the CWM menu when I restarted my cell. I am not sure what the key combination is.
I tried holding the power button and the volume up button, that did not work.
I tried holding the power button and the volume up/down buttons which lead to several vibrations and a black screen but nothing more. I think that's the fastboot mode button combination.
I looked through some of the XDA forum topics on that matter but I was not able to find the proper key combination. Please help. :silly:

Please read carefully :-
1) Be it on whatever firmware you running GB/ICS you cannot just install CWM unless you flash a custom kernel which has recovery (CWM) in it...reason to it is that there is no recovery partition to install in Sola
M not sure about recoverX installation tho
2)(this goes if you hv found a magical way to install CWM without flashing a custom kernel not sure of your recoverX thing) the key combination is wrong and also there is an timing when you hv to press it... It's when the phone vibrates after Sony logo and a custom led light (colour as per the modder) flashes...
Combination :- boot the phone and when the phone vibrates after Sony logo + led flashes then press only + volume key n spam it if possible...
3) the combination that you did which switched the phone off is NOT fastboot... Its force reboot and force shutdown and that is
Combination ;- volume + & power button for 5 sec- force reboot continue pressing booth for couple of more sec - force shutdown
4) there are plenty of NOOB friendly posts which I don't think you bothered to search or read!!!

Thanks again for the useful info. However this time you were too fast to judge me in your post - point 4.
I did read the noob friendly posts and I did find out about the led flashing thing and the volume up button pressing. It was explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922029 , which I read. However, since I am a noob, I did not know that I specifically MUST HAVE a custom kernel. I am familiar with ClockworkMod Recovery from my old HTC Wildfire cell phone and this is why I used it in a similar fashion on my Sola.
Maybe it was my mistake to consider ClockworkMod Recovery is similar to RecoverX, it certainly seemed that way to me
Anyway , that is the XDA thread for the RecoverX thingy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
I was not able to find any information regarding having a custom rom on that particular thread. Anyway, I have also read this thread so if I must I will install a custom kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766892.
Thanks for the hint. But just to let you know, I do read threads prior to asking.

It seems as the cell phone has to enter fastboot mode prior to installing CWM. The developer just posted that info today Fortunately he is working on a new big version

Hi,
I use stock ICS + stock kernel on my Sola.
Here is the thread where the developer of RecoverX admits there is a problem with his code: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227&page=18
This is what he says :
"In fact, before begin the installation, RecoverX check if there is a phone connected to the computer thanks to ADB. But I have forget that when the phone is in fastboot mode, ABD doesn't work (it's a big error from me ) so RecoverX can't check if there is a phone connected.
So, the tool is currently not able to install a recovery on Xperia U, P & Sola due to an error in the source code (sorry guys...)."
The nickname of the developer is LEDelete.
So this should be helpful to all noobs out there who do not know how to install a non-stock kernel. Or to people who just do not wish to do it. Very soon all of us will be able to install CWM with this simple to use tool. It is very user-friendly and the developer does provide feedback.
Cheers.

1.Turn off your phone
2.Reboot it back
3.The first Sony Ericsson should show up,don't waste your energy to press the volume rocker (down) button
4.When the boot animation played, press the volume rocker button several time until you enter the Clockwork Mod Recovery OR wait until the blue led appear (which only around 2 seconds I think) and press the volume rocker button several time until you entered the CWM Recovery

Doesn't matter how many times you click it, once is enough, but you can more also.
I always, when restarting, I do other stuff while clicking the volume down button rapidly, too lazy to wait.
nothing works except xparts... Help!
Okay I rooted my LWW with stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and installed CWM through xparts.
I can boot into CWM through xparts, create backup and also have flashed it back.
But the problem is, I can boot into CWM only through xparts. I tried manually as explained above (pressing volume down key and when it didn't work, tried the volume up key too) but nothing works. Every time I try, it boots into system and I've to go through xparts to boot in CWM.
My concern is I'm afraid to install any custom ROM's now. If my phone gets stuck in boot loop, I won't be able to boot into system and hence no xparts and no CWM.
How to have a full fledged recovery CWM, like I had in HTC Pico/Explorer(A310e) which could be booted through it's fastboot menu.
Please help, I'll definitely press thanks.
Have you tried installing a custom kernel? Flash your specified kernel through flashtool and boot to CWM via the button. As soon as you see the Sony sign continuously press the volume down key.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I've just rooted my Sony Ericsson xperia neo, unlocked the bootloader using Sony's website, and just installed CWM using the 'install-cwm1' script in the usual 'CWM-Install.rar' file used for installing Clockworkmod recovery.
Everything has worked fine so far, and I have root access and unlocked bootloader. The script pushes all the files correctly to my Neo and seems to install CWM just fine. However, I can't seem to boot my phone into CWM at all.
I've tried holding volume down and power, volume up and down and power, and the back key and power, but none of them get me into the CWM menu at boot, they just boot the phone as normal.
Anyone got any suggestions, or am I missing something really obvious here? I did a search on the forums and couldn't seem to find anything about this problem.
Thanks for your help,
Rory.

Dont press the buttons at the same time.
Press the power button untill it starts to turn on. then keep pressing and letting go and pressing (Very quickly) the BACK button whilst the boot screen appears.
Or you can install xperia reboot options from the market (There is a free version in the x10 thread from DooMLoRD, who developed the app). That has the option to reboot into recovery, so if you have cmw installed correctly it will boot into it without having to press any buttons.
This is DooMLoRDs link to xperiarebootoptions app.

When the phone boots up, I believe you get a multi-coloured illumination of the LED Bar (Red Green & Blue). When this comes, just press the down volume key repeatedly (usually once or twice is enough but it might take some time to get used to it)
Do report back your results so we can help you further.

Hi,
I am also facing the same issue. I've rooted my phone and installed CWM also. Now when i do restart to my phone, when sony logo appears (without multi-coloured illuminating LED Bar ), I start pressing 'Volum Down' button repeatedly. But it doesnt enter into Recovery mode. I simply goes to Xperia logo loading and then after that it starts loading the Internal storage and starts up with older ROM.
I dont know, if I am doing something wrong or I am not getting the correct way to boot it in recovery mode.
Plz Help.
Thanks in advance.

Check for root. Also try this:
When the phone boots, it will vibrate at the Sony logo. Try tapping the screen multiple times at that moment. My current kernel (Sliding XSola V4) has this tap to enter recovery.
Try that and report.
I'm getting the same damn problem.
Im on stock ICS
rooted and confirmed by root checker
unlocked bootloader via sony instructions
installed cwm with recoveryX
cant get it to do **** except enter a stupid safe mode
by thrashing the volume down button
up does nothing

Hey guys!
I'm not allowed to post this into the development section for the xperia p, so I have to do it here.
I've decided to root my xperia p. So, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device following these instructions using flashtool method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900172. Right after that, I flashed over this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894463.
I was pretty happy with this setup until I realised, that this kernel still has some bugs that need fixing and is not ready for stable everyday-use. (In my opinion..)
What I did next was flashing back to the stock kernel, which can be found in the same thread in the first post (for people who want stock kernel with custom CWM) and now my p is in a constant bootloop, turning on and off, without showing any logo and not giving me any access to recovery. I can't even initiate fastboot.. WHAT DO I DO NOW? I really need your help with this..
AND by the way, I have a lot of experience in the matter of flashing and android development, but this is the first time I really don't know what to do to fix this issue!

dont panic if you have boot loop all you need to do is hard reset the phone this is dont by holding power button and vol+ till it vibrates 3 times this will switch the phone off and allow you fastboot to flash cwm recovery again and then you can recover your backup
Xperia P.... has a removable battery right, if I recall.
Remove battery, hold vol up, place battery. Phone should vibrate 3 times.
Keep finger on vol up, shove USB port in. You should get into fastboot.
If you're aiming to go back to stock, then just go into flashboot (vol down), and flash a stock ftf file.

Hi first of all just want to thanks for this forum though I know it's wrong forum I think but I can't post under Android Development. Anyway thanks again for this forum again, I was able to root my Xperia P because of this site. Just want to clarify and ask some things about this one:
-In my first attempt rooting my phone, I experienced that my phone display is not normal like it's blurry. Anyone experienced that? Then I re-root my phone again but this time I chose Superuser, in my first attempt I chose SuperSU. After that, everything went fine, display is now okay then I download and installed SuperSU (granting permission with Superuser). Having those two at the same time is okay? Though I really don't know what are these two are for.
-Then after that, I proceed in CWM Recovery. At first I'm having trouble with accessing the recovery then finally I was able to access it. Then as per guide, I chose "Backup" then I just wait after that the Backup Completed then I'm just curious what is "Choose Backup Format" so I click it then it freeze. Anyone experienced freezing in CWM Recovery? And what is "Choose Backup Format"? And fortunately, I was able to reset my phone by pressing "Volume Up + Power Button". I saw it here too in this forum, to quote:
