Once he s-off's the device, do not let it flash the JB hboot, that way it says locked, then you can s-on.

Find the correct ruu for your phone in the development stickies and run it take the ota updates and back to stock please be aware your bootloader will say relocked as you used the HTC method you maybe able to get locked following my instructions but I'm not sure if it will work relocked means for warranty purposes HTC and your supplier can see if you have s-off your phone warranty viod

first you need to make sure youre still unlocked , then the file i gave you, copy that to your computer in the same folder as your fastboot.exe file and then on your phone hold the vol down button and press power to get to your HBOOT screen... the list of options there select the first one, which says fastboot, by pressing the power button once, it will change screens and give you different options.... at this point you connect your data cable to your phone and you should see it say fastboot and then USB should appear once you plug it in... once you do that you open up a ms-dos screen or a terminal screen and change over to the fastboot folder , when youre there type in this
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
recovery_signed.img is the file i sent you , you may have renamed it but the screen will say its sending it then writing it... if successfulk youll see it say "ok" then from there you reboot your phone and youll have the stock recovery back.... if youre going to return the phone for warrenty reasons be sure to relock the bootloader as well...

[Q] need stock hboot to replace ugly Junu...labeled hboot

ok, so i went through the s-off process and completed it successfully. It asked me if I wanted to flash the jb-hboot.zip which I said yes. Now, when I boot into hboot it has this ugly pink bar accross the top that says "juno..." (the name of the team). I am currently on the new firmware running BAMF Evita sense 4. Is there a stock ics hboot or something i can put back in its place that will leave s-off, be compatible with new firmware and not give custom labels accross the top?
Please help....

Technically, you could just reflash the leaked RUU then and you will still have S-off. Changing Hboots , won't affect S-off, Numerous threads have popped up with just radio's and Hboots to flash. Just be careful and don't mix and match Radios and Hboots to avoid trouble.

do I have to relock anything like when I upgraded to the new ics firmware? I was hoping for a straight forware ph98img.zip flash. i know, thats lazy but easy.
IMO, leave it. Put up with eye sore. If the flash to the stock one goes belly up, you will brick the phone. Leave it til you need to go back to an S-On device.

Technically true, but really as long as he doesn't pull the plug while its loading the Hboot its not a great danger.

I am pretty sure , their hboot is already relocked . So shouldn't have to relock , I went all the way back to GB and used the full exe RUU and relocked since I didn't know that it was locked initially and it ran just fine.
I would try without relocking , it will either run or fail before it starts doing anything.
Thank you mjh. Yes it is relocked & again leave it as is. Trust me you will thank me later. No need for unlock codes anymore and just waiting for roms to be rebased and official OTA(not for the actual OTA but for kernel source if released).
you guys know how to frustrate a guy, geez. What a great world that everyone can have their own opinion. Now, who's do I want to have?
I know exactly how you feel. Cant make up my mind what I want to do either. Currently on ICS S-OFF displaying Tampered/Locked
Do I RUU back to GB and flash the ENG Hboot?
Do I go ahead and flash jb_hboot? And which one is it actually. There have been way to many threads and posts on S-OFF and a bunch of different answers.
Do I leave it alone and wait to see what happens with the next release?
In some ways it would be nice to be back on Hboot 2.11 and have ENG S-off but is it worth it? Wont really know until the next official release comes out.

I am not telling not to flash, just telling you after S-off and using their Hboot it is already locked, but you can still flash the stock RUU. I did and haven't had any issues , but I didn't realize it was already locked so relocked and unlocked by HTC dev without knowing it . I am still tempted to flash the eng hboot , but not sure if I really have a need to.

whats the big deal with the engineering hboot? is it different or is that the standard one in the ruu?

There is more difference than this(allows more commands to be ran in prompts) but with an ENG hboot, you can keep it locked and s-off, along with still being able to flash anything your heart desires. ALTHOUGH if you wish to go back to s-on, flash an RUU of your choice first. As when you do write secureflag and a few reboots on an ENG hboot, you could brick.
Leave the hboot they give you. The tag might be annoying but it is better than having to re-unlock to use fastboot commands.
Why is un- re locking not ideal? It takes 2 minutes.

Scotty posted earlier if your S-OFF then unlock and relock again it will alway show relocked again unless you RUU then S-ON and then S-OFF again. If you S-OFF and don't unlock it and RUU it will say locked but its best to use the patched hboots supplied to be able to use certain fastboot commands that way you don't have to unlock and not have a problem with it saying relocked.

Aside of the text difference on the bootloader and potential warranty comprimising, is there any other downfall?
No downfall. But again, nor needed to unlock if s-off.

I'm not trolling or trying to start a argument, but if that's a big deal to you to have the pink junabear banner across your hboot screen then you should have never s-off. I mean really. Who sits there and stares at the hboot screen and decides that it doesn't look good. Lmao.

Bump. I need the stock Hboot to send back to Verizon. The GB hboot if anyone has it please.

Ruu help.

I going to get a replacement from Verizon and I need to revert my phone back to stock. Right now I'm s on and my boot says tampered and unlocked how can I get back to stock. Will an ruu work?
If you look for the hboots thread in the dev section, there is a modified one that will say 'locked'. You just need to download it and flash. I believe you may actually have to re s-off temporarily to flash it though. Could be wrong

Could I just not flash the ruu I have on my SD card? Or would I have to soff for that?
Sent from my Rezound using XDA
You can, but it wouldn't do any good as the ruu would not clear the tampered, unlocked message. This is why you need the modified hboot I mentioned. It has the message modified that has the correct message of 'locked'.
Grab the one called 'locked'

Why would he use that? It won't do what he needs to do. Seriously now, we appreciate your effort to help, but please don't add confusion to a simple task especially after I've taken the time to tell eris exactly what he needed to do..
And you do need to s-off then flash the hex edited hboot.. all you need is for that phone to stay locked and be on a stock Rom and your good. Verizon doesn't usually check as long as you went thru the trouble shooting process with them over the phone and theyll send you a new one in the mail and you'll ship the old one back. They can't technically send you a phone and then charge you for the old one (if it is ***tampered***) cuz they wouldn't have done the proper trouble shooting before sending you a new phone. For all they know you got your phone that way.

Bootloader to show "Locked"

Dudes,
Too many dead pixels dying on my phone and ATT is sending me another replacement device through warranty. I RUU'd and brought everything back to normal from the CID, hboot, radio, and back to s-on but I cannot get my bootloader to show "Locked". It just shows relocked. Im certain I cannot send it back to them saying relocked. Ive searched and maybe im not searching good enough. Care to share some commands?
"fastboot oem lock" only relocks it.
I restored the phone to 3.17 firmware and RUU but before I update it to the 4.3 id like it to show locked. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: Nevermind I found my answer. Read that this was not possible.

If you're s-off it is totally possible there's a command for it built right in to revone.

to my knowledge any htc device no longer show "locked" after you unlocked it the first time..it will always show relocked when locked again..

Something went wrong and now I have a message in hboot that says "security warning" and tampared over the words "locked". I doesnt boot to the rom again just goes to recovery im guessing with the phone and the red triangle. lol Pain in the butt.

For anyone that's searching for this exact issue ill share what i did to get my phone completely back to stock. I did search the forum but the info was all over the place and in my opinion it was as clear as "I" needed it to be hence me creating a thread for something so simple. Ok as follows here is what I did step by step.
First I had to make sure I installed HTC sync of course. At the moment my firmware was 3.57 and I downloaded the 3.17 RUU.exe from HTC.com
Your firmware *HBOOT* and the RUU you download have to match or you will get errors. Well, least I did.
Make sure you download some type of toolkit it would make life a lot easier. I used this one it worked like a charm!
At the moment, my phone is bootloader unlocked and s-off fyi.
Next, Use the tool to "lock" your bootloader first not "re-lock" just "lock". If you're having issues push revone again and follow commands on toolbox.
Now, check hboot to see if it shows "locked" if it has tampered above locked that's ok the RUU will take care of that.
Run, the RUU, make sure usb debugging on and htc sync already installed. Let it run.
After its done, start up phone again, turn off fastboot under "power" and turn usb debugging on again.
Start up toolkit, look to the right and it will say "s-on" device. You can only s-on after you've ran the RUU and are on stock hboot and rom.
Check Hboot again and it should read "Locked" and now "s-on".
Phone now ready to send back for warranty or etc.
Hope this helps anyone that searches. I found a few thread via google and they helped out a bunch.

S-off to S-0n

Hi Guys, I am in the process to put my M8 back to stock, currently I am s-off, how do I convert it back to s-on? Do I remove the custom recovery first then unroot, then S-on?
What is the proper sequence to do it, thanks

Just leave it soff. It throws a security flag when you turn security back on. There is no way around this at the moment but i'm pretty sure the command is
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Double check this before using it, this is off the top of my head.
Its in the all in one toolkit.

I agree. Unless you are selling the device, I don't see the reason to s-on.
AT&T doesn't care if the phone is modded, if returning for warranty service.
