Hey guys, just for you to know, epinter found a ics leak for Atrix 4G (and as we know, the Atrix and the Photon are very similar).
The thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928569
Edit: the thread is down (you can check the conspiracy theories on Atrix general). Now we talk about "that rom"

Thanks for letting us know. While a leak is very exciting it isn't source code. Lets keep the pressure on them!
Just a sum of the current status, till now. A guy has managed to get it boot on his Atrix. According to him, Video Camera works fine on the build.

But no webtop, as expected
He said very clearly in the second video he did that the About phone screen shows Webtop 3.0 but apparently there's nothing in the actual leak to do any updates (and that's after the second flash where he did flash the vendor.img which apparently is where the Webtop code should/would have been).
So far, everything seems to be working for him as well: camera (photo and video recording), fingerprint sensor (shows him unlocking it with just that), and so on.
Good news overall, at least for Atrix owners. Now, if they can find some use from the code for Photons, or heaven forbid the Photon gets a leak, so much the better for all of us.
This is great news for our Atrix brethren. Hopefully we can benefit from this.
Hopefully the libs should be compatible with Photon/Electrify too.

Th3bill said in the AOKP thread that he thinks it might have what we need to have a fully functional ICS and JB build on our phone.
I'm sure this libs works on Photon too, just be patient.
Would reallly be nice to see ICS on this Photon working well. I haven't committed to flashing any ICS or JB ROMs so far, just got CM7 installed and it's damned fast and works perfectly, not interested in losing any functionality with the ICS or JB ROMs at this moment but, again, let's hope this all bodes well for us Photon owners.
Oh, and that potential Photon ICS leak would be most welcome too, if it ever happens. Motorola did some work with it, would be nice to see (and take) whatever they had developed and make some use of it instead of just letting it vanish in a bit bucket someplace.

For those of us that have unlocked bootloaders? I read a thread that said Th3bill and jokersax were working on a method to unlock us 2.3.5 users. Hopefully he means for all photon users.
i think Th3biill ca make it work on photon just be patient
what about wimax? can that be made to work? Yes I know that all (or most?) of the roms for the photon break wimax.
Or will that require a Photon ICS leak?
atrix doesn't have wimax so this probably won't fix wimax on the photon.
I dont even know what it is, so I dont think this leak have what you need... but I just flashed it, and hw is working fine, video cam too. Running google chrome and sh*t
U flashed it on photon ,and i works fine ?

No, I'm an atrix user. I dont recommend you flashing this on photon
Lots of lag on the rom
it's mean that they worked on rom, but kill all development because of bugs?
good news - now developers of custom rom have drivers for video?

The Atrix Hd has been released for ATT and the Electrify has been released for US Cellular. Both of these phones have been given ICS in the stock form, i don't know about the boot loader but my thought is that with them both being Motorola and both of them being close to the photon, if we were to get a dump from one of them if not both of them we would be able to get the drivers and everything else that we would need to make all of the custom roms that are having camera issues and stuff get fixed. Has anyone taken a look at them and seen if we can use them?

Nope im afraid not. None of the new moto releases are of very mu h help to us. Different processors and everything.
What about the ZTE Grand X? Thats a Tegra 2 with stock ICS...

Yeah, we could probably benefit from that. Though i have a feeling joker and bill are already aware. But perhaps not.
I just pmed bill about it. We will see what happens.
Would be nice really .
Motorola seems so reluctant to help out photon users
Really they haven't fixed anything significant in past few months.

there has to be a way we can get the drivers and stuff if Motorola isn't going to update us to ics any time soon. Hopefully if the two phones i posted don't work maybe the grand x can do the trick . I just hope the developers get a chance to take a look at one of those phones and see what they can pull from them

According to Bill, he and Joker tried to implement the Grand X libs before but had trouble doing so. He informed me he was going to take a second look at it when it comes back from vacation. That phone seems to be our best bet at the moment. It's probably a lost cause though, unless Moto backs out for whatever reason those ICS drivers should be dropping for the Atrix very very soon.

Hi there!
So I've been searching for the newest and rom that works 100% (as of today) for my Motorola Droid Razr. I know CM has come out with some good roms, but I can't keep track of all the different roms that are out there. More specifically, I want a rom that works 100%, no bugs, no nothing (for the most part that is)... To my understanding the ICS and JB roms have some problems... maybe I'm wrong though? I've read I may have to downgrade to Gingerbread in order to get a rom that works 100%, BUT again, I want to ensure I'm not missing something. Can someone direct me?
Yes, I've searched this forum, other forums, blogs, news sites, etc... BUT I want to ensure I get the newest and best working rom (not the NEWEST JB rom - unless that works 100% - but the newest rom that is best working).
Thanks so much!

I love Eclipse ICS; it is my daily driver for the foreseeable future. Absolutely amazing and stable, with all features working:
Link to the original page for CDMA devices (there is a port available for GSM too. Let me know if you need a link for it.): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795493
The Cyanogenmod 9 and 10 ports are now in beta:
Page link, GSM only from what I can tell: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801379

Awesome! Thanks so much. I'll check it out. Is Eclipse what most people are using?
Yeah, I wanted to get Cyanogenmod, but I've heard that the new updates are kinda buggy (no camera, etc...)
Yeah, Eclipse is probably the most popular ROM for RAZR. The Gingerbread build DEFINITELY was.
Also, apparently the camera and everything works on CM9 as long as you download the right version. I haven't had any experience with it though so I couldn't help if you chose it.

Cool. Thanks for the info!
I think I'll go with CM9... I've been looking at the AOKP as well... sounds pretty nice - have you ever tried it? I'll try them out and see what I like the best.
Thanks so much,

Oh, and I've tried to find CM9 and AOKP for the Droid Razr, but to no avail... Well sorta.
I was going to post a link, but XDA Developers won't allow me to because I don't have 10 posts yet...
I found one that says CM9/AOKP (leak rom), BUT I don't understand what they mean when they say I "leak rom"... I think it means that ICS hadn't been released yet when they released this rom? I don't know... And although the site is rootzwiki.com, I am hesitant in loading it onto my Razr because it doesn't actually say it's for the Razr, AND I can't find CM9 for the Razr anywhere else. I feel like these are for the .181 while I'm running .211...
I can't find anything for AOKP that doesn't seem like it's too old to try. It just seems as if everything is outdated... I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong places? I don't want to mess up my phone by installing a ROM that is too old.

CM10
I'm on CM10 now as stated in the earlier post. It's super smooth but I don't think it's ready for daily use.
Will look into eclipse though.
Boohoo, Eclipse is only for CDMA. Mine's a GSM.
Just remember, you are currently on ICS. You can't leave ICS.
It is a one-way street and there is no way to flash gingerbread without having some major problems.
I use Eclipse and I would highly recommend it.
Have a look here http://www.droidrzr.com/
there are a few more roms here that i havent seen elsewhere
try epsilon v3...you wont be changing that for a long while

I decided I'd take a look at this one. I was impressed by the stability claims but I don't know if I want to flash this because it still looks like stock Blur.
Currently running CM9 now; there are some bugs for sure but all main features work.

Motorola Droid X uses different BP from QC, which will probably be trivial to handle (QC MDM6600 is known to work well with kexec). Motorola Motoluxe is not an OMAP phone at all (QC platform).
This is mainly for OMAP3 phones with Wrigley 3G as BP.

But thanks for the link, it's a really good thread, full of real developers.
I saw a thread saying that jokersax and thebill are working on a method that might unlock the 2.3.5 bootloader somehow, but I can't find it right now. Is there a glimmer of hope that whatever they're working on along with these files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925102, that us 2.3.5 users MIGHT have some light at the end of the tunnel?

I get the feeling that by the time joker and thebill get this to work
1. Wimax will be dead
2. Most photon owners turned off my Moto's crappy customer service will have moved on to another device.
Not downplaying jokersax's and thebill's work. I was on MIUI and CM9 for a while before flashing back to stock. I just feel that the cliff is steep, and the rewards are small in comparison.
So as I understand it, the Photon has drivers issues which is why we dont have a port of for instant a droid bionic version of moto ICS, or moto jellybean. I am wondering what we need to get a kernel going. If this happened this would open up the possibility for doing webtop on a non stock rom.(Which I really would love cm 10.1 with ubuntop) I have been using linux for many years and am familiar with compiling and modifying kernels and packages I am just still new with android I came from the Epic 4G. I just would like to be pointed in the right direction or maybe someone who already makes kernels has attempted this and we could work together.
Thanks for your time.
You need source from Motorola and whatever company it was that Apple bought. You can try the Compendium thread for kernel links but as of now a new kernel is highly unlikely.
So then maybe we should look into writing our own? I mean if they can do it why can't we?

There's a thread over in the Atrix 4G forums where some people are working on a port from the Galaxy R kernel. You may want to follow that thread and offer your assistence there, because chances are that any progress that benefits the Atrix will benefit the Photon in the long run.

In theory that is sound, but the Atrix has a much newer kernel version than ours from the start (not sure how that happened with our device being more recent release). If you're planning to try, make sure that you have device protection or a good number of devices to work with....they've already hard bricked one or two from what I had seen.
What drivers are required, and I assume you mean for a 3.x kernel?

Unless you want to rev-eng a couple of parts of the kernel to make the GalaxyR kernel exaclty compatible with the Photon, you won't be able to use the stuff. Sorry.

maybe, jut maybe some day it will be leaked.
after the screwing Moto gave us he might as well post it. wtf are they gonna do? lock our damn phones?
My guess is it just never panned out and the guy didn't want to disappoint us. This was around the time of the Atrix leak, and that never amounted to anything, and a bunch of people got let down. It's my theory, which is far from concrete, that the leak included Photon files as well, that also never amounted to anything, but less was said here, so fewer people will be let down. I'm personally not worried. Come whatever may. My phone may not be able to do MMS or camcorder, or run Chrome or Swiftkey Flow, but I like it. It does the things I want it to. And it looks sexy as hell. I'd appreciate this mystery kernel or whatever, but I'm not gonna lose sleep if some mad scientist is holding out. Not saying that's what cybik is (I actually don't know much about him), just saying neither of the two extremes affect me much. And they shouldn't affect y'all either. If you're locked I'm sorry, that sucks, so is my brother, but you can run Holo Launcher/Locker and use either utter!, Maluuba, or Dragon Go! for voice commands/personal assistant, Notification Toggle for, well, the toggles, and Dolphin for your browser, and that puts you fairly close to Android 4. Motoblur can't keep a WiFi lock to save its life, but there are apps for that... I'm trying to test one on my wife's phone, but I'm not getting very good data from it. If you're unlocked, you have a lot of good choices as it is.
I may be an Atrix owner, but if the 2.6.39.4 kernel that is being dev'd for the Atrix is a success, couldn't you take the post-dev'd 2.6.39.4 kernel and port it to the Photon?
I've read many forums and blogs regarding unofficial CM10/10.1 work on the Motorola Photon 4G. Most of what I read indicates existing ROM's from Th3Bill and others have issues with important features (wifi/data) and in some cases could even damage hardware.
Anybody have experience with the ROM below? If so, is it truly stable?
Anybody running Android 4.x on Photon 4G with most features working? What ROM and what works/doesn't?
As you can see, I am definitely n00b (nice video during registration by the way :laugh. I did search XDA and google first but I'm really just looking for an update from any users more than anything. I have 2.3.4 now and have rooted, on Ting 'carrier'. I already froze updater.apk to prevent an OTA update to 2.3.5 which I read will lock my bootloader and prevent any custom roms.

Anything can damage your hardware.
Go and attempt the installation of ICS/JB and check if you keep GSM functionality. If not, just go back to stock, MAKING SURE IT IS 2.3.4, NOT 2.3.5, as many guides teach you to. Flash KDDI radio if in US, otherwise, don't bother.

I saw evita in the filename but device:sunfire is the Photon 4G. Not sure what it means if the filename and description don't match.
dwegiel, point taken. I don't have the time at the moment to attempt something this unfamiliar to me especially if I end up with radio problems. Since I'm on Ting (Sprint MVNO), do I need to worry about GSM and KDDI radio at all? Also, I'm absolutely certain I'm on 2.3.4 and I have already rooted.
I was hopeful some progress had been made on Android 4.0+ for Photon/Atrix but it seems the lack of Tegra drivers is either severely hampering development or may eventually kill development all together as these products age. Thanks for the replies and to the devs for their work thus far.

Went to Joker's CM9
For those who land here wondering if I ever explored the cybik ROM above: No...and I won't be either.
Using various XDA threads I unlocked the bootloader, flashed clockworkmod, Installed Joker's CM9 (beta 0.8.1) unofficial, and found gapps-ICS-signed.zip on the interwebs and installed that. I kind of jacked up my phone by accident and found this was the better solution instead of trying to fix the stock GB.
For anyone looking to move from GB...I would recommend this. I've read a lot of threads about various issues in current CM10.1 for Photon so I was hesitant to try those. CM9 feels very similar to 10.1 and as far as performance the issues on CM9 I've found: MMS requires GoMMS Pro app, no camera video (stills are fine), Swiftkey "Flow" causes force-close, and battery life seems to have decreased from GB (despite downclocking to original 1Ghz).
Pretty much everything else works...Bluetooth, GPS, calls, SMS, Chrome browser. Despite my original concerns, this was clearly the way to go. Mods you're welcome to close this up.
