Broken Phone with T-Mobile Monthly 4G - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey Guys,
Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I am a tmobile monthly 4g customer and I purchased my phone off ebay from another tmobile customer.
My capacitive lights just stopped working yesterday. I know this is probably a good thing! Nonetheless as we brush up against the very end of the first year the phone has been out, I'm wondering where I would go for repairs, service or an exchange.
I don't imagine I'd have any luck with tmobile, but maybe you all have a differing opinion.
Conversely, should I go directly to HTC with the issue and if so, what does HTC typically do, fix it, exchange it, replace it with an alternate model, or tell me to go pound sand?
Finally, I am presently S-Off. Do I need to S-On before taking it to anybody?
Your help would be appreciated!

HTC would warranty it in, if it still has a warranty. T-Mobile will NOT warranty it. You have to be S-On on a stock ROM and DO NOT mention that it was ever rooted or anything.

[Q] Replacement through Sprint; will root cause issues?

Yesterday, the vibration motor on my phone stopped working, so I went to Sprint, who ordered me a replacement through the HTC warranty.
I used the HTC Unlock method, therefore, my warranty is void. Is Sprint going to check this when I come in for the exchange? Or will it just be an even swap with no questions?

They will just swap it. I have had them swap my phone after I unlocked it no questions asked. I even left it rooted custom rom and all. Now if it was bricked that might be a different story. They might check then but not for a motor issue.

Actually, yes. He said that since the phone came out less than a year ago, they don't open any of them there. My friend actually came with me because his 3VO has a broken speaker. They told him that he has to go to the corporate location, as that is the only place that will actually open the phone without voiding the warranty, and if they can't fix it, they have to replace it.
He told me the vibration issue can't be fixed, and they have to order a replacement model.
i just put a stock rom on my phone and took it in and im not sure if they knew or not but i got a new phone
Sprint doesn't seem to care most of the techs are rooted. If it was bricked then yes they would be looking at you funny and you might have to pay a fee or your warranty is no good.

[Q] Broken Vibration

I bought my M7 brand new from eBay and everything worked fine when I got it. Somehow between unlocking the bootloader, installing recovery, rooting, and installing this (M7 Unofficial T-Mobile 1.29.401.13 OTA GSM Deodex) ROM, the vibration no longer works. I can feel an EXTREMELY faint vibrate. So faint that i had to mute the TV and put my ear to the phone to hear it.
What can I do to try to get this taken care of?

OK so it's definitely busted. I ran the vibration diagnostic (*#*#3424#*#*) mode and ran the vibration test. If I knock the phone around a bit it comes back but never lasts more than a few seconds. Will T-mobile honor the warranty if I bought the phone from eBay and have unlocked my bootloader?
Okay, I had this problem with another phone I had (HTC Sensation 4G). I found myself with little vibrations, so faint that it wasn't noticeable in my pocket. Instead of going back to another stock ROM I left it the way it was. A few days later my speaker shut completely down, so I freaked out and installed a different ROM. Speaker didn't work, vibrations worked though. I called HTC and they told me I screwed something up in the phone's circuitry. My recommendation would be to go to a different ROM, if that doesn't work, go stock, and if you still have problems call HTC.

I reflashed my stock ROM backup I made and its the same thing. I'll text myself and sometimes it vibrates and sometimes it doesn't.
If you have it covered with insurance by T-Mobile then I see why not unroot it, lock the bootloader and return it to T-Mobile. It's sure worth a shot!

Got it off eBay. Whats the manufacturer warranty on these things?
Usually HTC would charge you a hundred something, I usually buy my phones from anywhere other than T-Mobile and still get insured by them. If you've insured your phone it should still be covered through T-Mobile. Try that first because I know to replace a damaged phone through T-Mobile is a sure a hundred dollars and not a day without a phone because it gets replaced in like 1 day if anything.

I just got back from tmobile they told me since I didn't buy it at tmobile and i'm prepaid they can't help me. I'm going to get a refund through ebay. The description stated the phone was new and defect free but it isn't so according to ebay's policies I'm eligible for a refund.
I think I'm going to buy ANOTHER M7, when I get it go to t-mobile to transfer my service to the new one, then send the old one back through ebay buyer protection for a refund. I'll be out almost $600 until the ebay refund goes through though.

if you bought it brand new, its a 1 year warranty with HTC, you can do t his through T-Mobile and they will charge you $20 to call and deal with it for you however, since we dont have SOFF, they will know you rooted it, there is this video that says rooting does not void your warranty so if you can prove to HTC that you rooting did NOT cause this, they shouldn't care

Is this $20 fee documented somewhere? Although I believe you I can't really point to an xda thread as source if the guy in the store says they don't do that.
Also, I'd be out a phone during this process right? And what if HTC tells me that me rooting my phone caused the vibration hardware to malfunction?

Okay then, if you bought it brand new, you have the receipt, you still have HTC 1 year warranty. You put it back to stock, and you tell them there is a problem with your phone. The vibration is off and its too weak. Then thats it. You will be out of a phone, if they do notice its rooted, which they probably wont if you resort it back to 100% stock and lock the booloader thought I am not sure about this, you can try to argue that it started happening way before you rooted it to fix an issue they are at fault here.

I bought it from eBay, no receipt. I could ask the person I bought it from for their receipt I guess. And if I brought it back I would put it back to stock but the bootloader would still say relocked and tampered since we don't have an RUU for t-mobile yet.

Yeah basically so you will have to argue with then that this happened before you flashed the new Rom thinking that would fix it. My phone vibration starts strong and gets weak but it last like a good minute just vibrating in a decreasing way.
.I was considering rooting and flashing the new 1.29 update because ny buttons don't work eithe but since we don't have SOFF they will know

[Q] unlock and warranty

I searched and couldn't find a clear answer to my question:
I bought an AT&T HTC One off CL and want to flash the international ROM, however, I am afraid of voiding my warranty...
1) is there any way to restore htc one back to its "locked" state after unlocking, from what I understand it is only possible to change it to "relocked"
2) Does the "relocked" status imply voided warranty? has anyone dealt with AT&T in the past?
I have seen my share of smartphones failing, including my international S3 failing into its 14th month so would really like to keep the warranty intact
Unlocking the bootloader does not necessarily void your warranty in the U.S. But it will probably make your claim a little more difficult. HTC has, in the past, honored warranty when the fault was clearly not the users fault. For example, if your power button gets stuck in the down position and can't be raised. At this time, there is no way to get the phone to show LOCKED again instead of RELOCKED. Now if HTC gets your phone and determines the issue was caused by the user, they will still replace it but charge you for the parts. You will probably have more luck working with AT&T reps in your warranty claim because they aren't trained on how to tell if your phone is unlocked/rooted as long as you aren't obvious about it.

Simply unlocking your bootloader isn't an automatic voiding of a warranty.
I am doing a warranty return myself and the terms I agreed to were the phone must not be physically damaged, or water damaged.
Also HTC THEMSELVES will repair a phone UNDER WARRANTY with a HARDWARE DEFECT despite having an unlocked bootloader.
I have never in my several years of dealing with AT&T had a warranty refused because I rooted my phone.

Until we get S-off (which is coming soon) the bootloader cannot be made to say "LOCKED" once it has been unlocked.
Sorry for the double post, but thought of one more thing. I had to get my phone warranty swapped for dead pixels. The AT&T reps I dealt with in person tried to convince me that my device wasn't covered because, like you, I bought the phone from an individual. They said warranty are not tranferrable and only belong to the person who bought the phone. This is not true. Warranty is on the device and provided by HTC, not AT&T. They are simply acting as an intermediary to facilitate the exchange. I had a whole lot less trouble dealing with the phone support folks in getting it swapped.

If past exploits are any indication you're going to need root to gain s-off so go ahead and unlock.

Former Verizon HTC One Owner - Need Some T-Mobile Guidance (Hacking)

I'm reading through the threads and forums and maybe I'm just missing it... Is there a way to get S-Off/Unocked on the Tmobile One besides htcdev.com? My One is a warranty replacement, and also I just now received it back from having the camera repaired, so I really don't want to officially unlock it via htcdev for warranty purposes. On Verizon we had Rumrunner just before I switch to T-Mobile. Is there something similar? I see rumrunner for the int'l variant, but can't find if it'll work on T-Mobile. Again I apologize if it's right in front of my face or if I'm looking in the wrong places, but I've been looking for about an hour with no luck.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong - I've read (haven't tried yet) the int'l rumrunner will get S-Off, but you have to be rooted first - i.e. have to unlock via htcdev anyway.
You are correct the current T-Mobile build IS supported by rumrunner, and yes, you must be HTC dev unlocked first. Contrary to popular belief, however, this does not completely void your warranty with HTC.
Hardware issues (like your camera for example) will usually still be covered by HTC, but you can go directly through T-Mobile. Going through warranty with T-Mobile is very easy. When you go through them and the only downside is the replacement will be a refurbished phone, but sometimes they'll even send you the refurb before you send back the defective one. T-Mobile is really great with warranty replacement.
They honor a one-year device warranty, all you would need to do is set your bootloader back to "locked" (which you can do once you've gained soff) and place a warranty request with T-mobile directly.
Thank you - that's exactly what I needed to know. And I forgot you can set it back to locked with S-Off - good to know!

[Q] noob bluetooth htc rezound verizon need help

I have HTC Rezound. Verizon. It is plain jane stock. Insurance replaced assiorion or whatever.
Bluetooth not working.
Would like to load unlock something to get updated Bluetooth drivers or something for my phone. Verizon Tech support less than
useless. Can anybody help today like upgrade my phone to a ROM thing?

If it's not working with the stock rom, I doubt switching roms is gonna help.
If you wanna try another rom, gotta start by unlocking the bootloader via the htcdev.com website.
Follow up to step 6 to get unlocked, after that you need a custom recovery then you can start flashing roms.

If after a factory reset Bluetooth is not working, I would call Asurion and get another replacement that does work... plain and simple. If it doesn't work on stock, the chances it will work on anything else are near 0, and unlocking may void your warranty, resulting in a charge to you if they have to replace it later.

Asurion is the problem of Asurion. They have been pointing there fingers at eachother then they say they have never heard of an HTC resound having a Bluetooth problem. This is driving me crazy. Had this problem about a year ago. Verizon had an update and it fixed it.
Problem is I can not update my Adroid version to do this because ASS surion and VerMoran have it locked.

No... Asurion is wrong and they know it, the phone is defective, you should insist they give you a working device, that is why you had the insurance, not to get a defective phone
