I just received an S3 ordered via an established eBay seller.
However, the seller neglected to state that the S3 is Polish - instructions and some box text is in Polish.
Is this ok or am I likely to experience any oddities? Do I have the correct firmware that I want/need for regular UK use?
As yet unopened.

Yes it's fine and in fact you get the official JB update without doing anything except doing it OTA.
You may need to enter your network settings manually is about all .

And that is easily fixed by flashing the latest UK ROM (doesn't increase counter) and changing the CSC code to your region (BTU), App on the appstore and requires no root.
So basically yeah it will work 100%.
I was on the verge of keeping this phone, but I just bought a new Three UK monthly rolling sim today and I am getting download speeds of around 100Kbps and poor vice call quality. I don't know whether that is just Three but the data is way too slow. Could this be because of the modem software on board?

Skander, could you point me to those things please? Would changing the CSC do anything to help me? Whilst that may not reque root, I guess flashing a UK rom would, right?
Flashing from 1 stock Rom to another does not require root and is done by Odin

Yes it could be the modem. Here is a full modem list:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061
You flash them with odin. Make sure to get 4.1.1 modems if you have updated to JB. The csc includes things like apps from three, and won't effect your download speeds.
I would recommend watching the youtube video on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
This will give you a better grasp on what is what
Ugh, confusing. So, grab the 4.1.1 package download and flash that? Thigh the thread doesn't say, it should contain some Three stuff?
I'm on the verge of just returning the Polish phone and having the seller mail a UK handset or refund entirely rather than messing rand.
Thanks for the tips.

Have you noticed the "Roll up sticky thread" in the general forum? The noob friendly flashing guide is a great place to start.
The csc is not needed at all, and most would be happier without it.
There is no hardware difference between a polish and british handset. A few hours to get used to flashing and you can get a fine working S3. This includes JB, ICS, polish csc, british csc, modems etc exactly to your tastes.
I had rooted and flashed before with my S and S2, but kinda wanted to start my S3 life in its virgin state.
Though I had been attributing the horribly poor call quality on my S2 to my network this year, it may even be down to whatever I've flashed on to it.
More JB rolling out now i would wait for the correct one for your phone .

Hey guys. I recently rooted my galaxy s2 (Vodafone UK White) using the method of flashing an insecure kernel, then using one click root. My original kernel was I believe i9100BUKI1, I couldn't find the exact insecure version so I flashed i9100BUKE1. I didn't think to backup my original one so I was stuck with flashing back the secure version of i9100BUKE1. The problem I have is that now my phone has washed out colours on the screen and the battery life is shocking.
Is there any place I can get hold of the original kernel that shipped with my phone?
Thanks.

I really think I need to have the right firmware. With the stock one my phone randomly turns off and on again. Is there anywhere I can get the BUKI firmware or kernel, I cannot find it anywhere.
I'm also having problems with a washed out screen. I rooted my s2, and noticed that the screen became really washed out, particularly noticeable on the camera and on video playback. It was originally kernel xwkdd. I decided to unroot it and went back to a samsung repair shop. They tried fixing it but it did not work. He now told me that he was waiting for the white s2 screens to come, he would try replace that and if that did not work, then he would send it into samsung. The kernel version is now xwkd6 which i've never heard of or seen on the internet. (for insecure and secure kernels) Shall I try fiddling around or just be patient and get samsung to replace it? If i were to try something, can you tell me what to do? Thanks
I think the only way I can fix mine is by getting the original firmware that I had. I cannot find it anywhere on the internet though. I really need someone to post the kernel or a backup of there rom. Please can someone do this for me?

I have tried all these firmware already, the colours are either washed out, or the phone just restarts constantly. I really don't understand how no one has ever posted this firmware. If you google it, people talk about it but it is no where to be downloaded. It needs the be the BUKI one, not the BUKE or BUKG ones. Definitley not the XX ones.
Please someone post this

I have tried every unbranded and every vodafone firmware now, and all of them have obscure results with my phone.
There must be another unlisted version??
Are you sure it's "washed out" Can you get pics? maybe it's a coincidental hardware fault? I mean.. It should work?
Have you tried fiddling with the display settings? There are various DNIE modes that could be the cause.

I know that passed 6 months,I have the white SGSII Vodafone Spain stock.I have the BUKI1 version. How can I make a Backup of stock ROM and kernel if something goes wrong with rooting and installation of custom ROMS?Can somebody tell me how to backup and I will upload the stock version for this phone.
LE:This is my phone version and I think is the same as the owner of this post:
I am looking into getting a newer version of Android om my SGS II, and so I wondered what the differences between different "providers" were, and if my binary counter would be affected from flashing it.
I have this installed:
PDA: I9100XWKI4
Phone: I9100XXKI1
CSC: I9100DBTKH1
That means that I somehow got a hold of a Debitel phone (Germany), even though I bought it from a company that sells electronics. Debitel never updated SGS II to 2.3.5/2.3.6.
I would like to install a "Open Europe" official ROM. Will this affect my binary counter? How can i flash it? The full file name of the file is: I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1_OXA.rar
I would NOT like to root, nor to lose my warranty in any way.
Thank you
Each branded rom is geared toward what the provider needs WITH SETTINGS SOFTWARE ETC packed in there.
Standard rom more to the point none branded is a rom with just the Andriod and samsung gear packed in there and is updated quicker than the branded roms.
If you look in the firmware section you can see and may understand much better.
All the question your asking has already been post please go to the section of the forum and read this saves bandwith here. Look in Q & A or use search button..
Flashing etc...
The phone itself is not branded, but somehow the CSC is. Can I flash an Open Europe one and keep my warranty?

You can do anything to the fone and keep its warranty my friend. You can even fire rounds at it with a AK47...LOL
Now the main thing is you understand what your doing when rooting, changing roms etc. changing case.
Just follow the details to the letter on flashing, backing up, installing drivers etc and you'll be fine. Lets say you fine a open rom or any rom come to that which does not have a CSC you want you can still flash the rom and flash the CSC there afterward.. The only other non standard thing you'll need is a USB Jig. to reset your count.. ebay..

Hi all. First, thanks to anyone who can offer any help. Second, whenever I use a rom based on CyanogenMod 9, my network shows up as Orange or T-Mobile. I live in the UK and should be on Virgin Mobile. My other roms pick it up ok. I can not manually find Virgin in network settings. Any ideas on how I can correct this. Many thanks to any ideas

You do not have CSC for your network .Enter network settings manually .
OR

Do you have any other recommendations? I dont think it's a bad flash as everything else is working perfectly (i do full wipe before any flash)
EDIT: never mindd! i restarted my phone and now it sees a whole pile of APNs. yay!
Hello guys,
I bought this phone unlocked from a store in Cyprus (not from cytamobile vodafone as stated below). When I came to the UK, as I'm a student) (and inserted an O2 Sim-card) I got asked to update, which I did, but I haven't noticed anything difference and I'm still in 4.0.4. I've seen most of the people (in this forum at least) have upgraded but I still get that there is no update available for me.
So I've downloaded checkfus and the results are in the attachment... So i've searched in the checkfus website (it won't let me link it as my account hasn't got many posts) and I got some weird info and I'm trying to figure out what's going on without any luck.
As you can also see from the attachments here are the info and on the right the country results I get after searching in the checkfus website:
Product Code: GT-I9300MBDCYO (Cyprus (Cytamobile Vodafone))
PDA: I9300XXBLH1 (India, Kazakhstan (Kcell), Serbia (Vip SRB), Ukraine)
Phone: I9300XXLH1 (Kazakhstan (Kcell), Serbia (Vip SRB), Ukraine)
CSC: I9300OXFBLH1 (Serbia (Vip SRB))
So if you check the attachment you will see most of the information about my phone.
Also, please note that I've tried searching the above but haven't found anything useful. If I missed anything that has the answer I'm really sorry for creating a new thread.
Anyone knows what's going on? Is this normal? Should I flash another stock ROM (and which one)? Should I just wait?
Thank you very much for your time and I would really appreciate any helpful reply! If you need any other information please let me know as I really want a taste of the buttery update!

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, but I don't want to start rooting and adding custom ROMs yet, as the stock one (until now) works for me!
My guess is that jb updates haven't rolled out in cyprus yet. As you bought your phone is cyprus, it won't follow the uk schedule.
If you don't mind flashing, just get any official i9300 firmware from sammobile and flash.
As you mentioned you don't want to amend your phone, or the sort, you can just wait for the cyprus jb to roll out?

Well, I don't want to mess around with the phone this early as it's only about 2 months old.
I wouldn't mind waiting but as it's kind of weird that I haven't got it yet! Do you know if it would make any difference if I flashed the UK one?
If I get the UK Universal one (is that the BTU?) and flash it through odin as a PDA will that work? Will that make the flash triangle appear?
Sorry for asking so many questions I'm kind of a newbie and a bit of scared of the flashing process and don't wanna lose the warranty!

Hi all. I would like to keep my stock firmware up to date on my rooted S3, but have a few questions about this. From what I can tell the easiest way to do this seems to be by downloading the newest firmware (say from SamMobile) and using Odin to push it to the phone (since I can't use OTA updates and Kies refuses to connect to my phone). What confuses me about the stock firmware for this phone are the different country/carrier codes. Do I need to be concerned with using one from a different country than me (I'm in the US), or are they just generic firmwares that can be used by any country? SamMobile shows a bunch of new firmwares for the S3 released in February but they all have different country/carriers, what's the point of this? Currently my phone is running baseband version I9300XXELL4 which doesn't seem to coincide with the US, which I guess is also part of what is confusing me.
Thanks for your help!

I've checked my CSC and it comes up as unknown - is this an issue or does this need to get fixed before I update my firmware? My phone works fine right now. Also, how do you try a different "modem". Do you mean just flash a different version of the firmware?
Believe me I have checked every sticky in the I9300 forum and none of them explain the difference between the different stock firmwares. None of those links are helpful .

Wow, I come here to politely ask one question (essentially) and this is what I get. In case you have issues reading, read this: I have read every single sticky thread in its entirety (something it seems you haven't done, might I add) and none of them answer the question I am asking. I'm not asking you to "spoon feed" me and hold my hand through rooting my phone or how to use Odin (since all of that info is on sticky threads). I am simply asking what the difference is between stock firmwares that have different country codes. If you cannot answer that, please do not waste my time by responding to this thread. It would do you well to read my entire first post before giving me answers to questions I did not ask to begin with.
