Seeing how the NDS isn't a super powerful console (albeit having good games), I was wondering where we are with the NDS emulation now? I remember a while ago we had some TigerNDS emulator which got kicked out of the Android Market.
I mean, theoretically, isn't the hardware in say the Galaxy S3 sufficient? Or in other quad core phones/tablets? Isn't it "just" a matter of software? Say if someone took the source from say DSmume and got it to work on Android? I read something about some ARM dynarec, although I haven't the faintest idea what it means.
Ah, Shawty. The problem is that NDS emulation on the PC isn't even close to perfection. It's not that our hardware can't run it, it's just that the emulators aren't powerful enough to run the games.
It's the same "Release Exynos sources" conundrum all over again except that this time, Nintendo WILL protect their intellectual property. It's their duty to do so.
There is an emulator, I used to have it but it was too slow. But the dev is still committed to it. If anyone can do it I think he can. Will link when I find it.

How do you figure?
Well, the only reason why developers can't make perfect emulators is that the source codes for the NDS are locked up. As you know, developers can't really do much without the source code (the CM10 dilemma).
Nintendo's DS and Sony's PSP are the company's intellectual property. If anyone were to get a hold of the source codes for these devices, it would make the devices completely obsolete. Everyone would download the required emulator and ROM, and then run the game on their PC/Smartphone. Hence, it's their legal right to protect their property. It's alos why emulators and ROMs are banned (except where you own the original cartridge and have the sole intention of using the emulator and ROM to make a backup).
---------- Post added at 03:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
It's also why most emulators are getting the boot from the Play Store; they fall under the "warez" category and are illegal in most countries.

Hardly. It would be illegal if they were to distribute copyrighted ROMs without permission and BIOS files (for those emulators where not everything has been emulated). I don't know why TigerNDS was removed, but yongzh's emulators were removed because he's a bellend - he'd take GPL-licensed code and use them in his emulators but would not then release the modified code. Good riddance.
If we look at the Play Store, there are two emulators for Nintendo's GBA still going strong (MyBoy and VGBA) and two for Sony's PS1 (ePSXe and FPSE). These might be old consoles, so perhaps they don't care, but were the DS emulators on PC like DeSmuME etc. were using code copyrighted by Nintendo and not their own implementations, you can bet that's when Nintendo would step in with something like a cease and desist. DeSmuME's still going strong after all these years.

lol. You mean old consoles like the SNES, Genesis, GBC, GBA, PSX?
It took the developers some time but they managed to code their emulators properly! Also, these consoles weren't really demanding (spec-wise)!
Patched roms won't load in any of the Android DS emulators, though they work fine in DeSmuME. Trouble is, unpatched roms, such as Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, freeze a lot.

I am just taking a shot in the dark here but but couldn't it be possible to emulate the PS Vita on the prime since they both use the Quad-Core ARM Cortex A9. I don't remember how the gpu's stack up against each other but the specs are pretty close. Only thing would be that it is an emulation and that even though they share similar components it may still not be possible.
I highly doubt the vita would be possible as the devise emulating must have 4 times the processing power, but while we're on that note I would love to see a psp emulator or maybe even a GameCube emulator or a dream cast emulator. Anybody thinks this would be possible? These 3 systems are about a decade old now and should thearedicaly be possible. I know I would pay 20 bucks if my games were playable on my prime!
Could be possible because of the fact that the processors are similar it would be sweet if we could just dual boot with the PS Vita OS
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
could be possible or porting the games over to us to make it easier. One thing though this NeoDeoid(NeoGeo Emulator) that I have one my prime is sick! I've been playing Metal Slug3, Last Blade2, Double Dragon Fighting Game, EightMan, and Fatal Fury1. They all look n play great on the Prime. Only thing is its a hit or miss finding the NeoGeo Roms that work. I've ran thru a bunch and found those ones I've listed to work so far. FPse(PlayStation) emulator works good also. The roms be huge though..lol. I have my X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Einhander on it. Its so crazy playing these fighting games on the Prime now.
A dreamcast and Gamecube one could easily be done if someone made am emulator for it. I'd want a 3DO or Sega Saturn Emulator Also. Good old SnesDroid and GeneDroid(Genesis and Sega Master System)plays whatever you through at it basically. its when you get to emulators requiring a BIOS that things get tricky and not every game wants to work. Or even better an Xbox emulator is possible also. Prime has more than enough muscle for it.
I remember reading something about their being some sort of sony SDK that allowed you to offer your games for the vita and Tegra 3 devices idk where but this would be exactly what we need!

here you go. sounds great! Article says Tegra3 should easily be able to push n play PS vita games. Also that future PlayStation certified devices will include Tegra3 chipset. Sony and Nvdia have a good partnership going. Plus we can expect PlayStation classics and vita games to roll out very soon for Prime.

yeah i was just emulating a ps1 game and without the filtering off it was able to almost get 100 FPS which is really good! we can almost push some PS3 games if we can push VITA games cuz the graphics are so close!

Hey,
I recently saw somewhere (on XDA) post that PS Vita has similiar hardware as smartphones that are coming pretty much now (SGS III, powerd by Tegra3 etc.). So is there a possibility for making such emulator? I know that it won't provide similiar gameplay as with hardware buttons on PSV but some games propably would still be playable without them (or with less) like racing games etc.)
I'm just asking for technical side of this task and if there is someone who plans to try and make one?
impossible.

I guess for now still impossible to do. Even PS1 emulator on android is still not perfect enough to play all PS1 game.
So, still long way to make PS Vita emulator on android
Agreed.
I have a hard time getting my Atari ST emulator to run.

Yep, i was more like porting Vita systems to android or something then emulator but if it's still impossible, thats ok

No it isn't you have to understand that processors in a phone are not close to having the same power as a dedicated games device. The vita has a quad core processor and another quad core for the graphics
It has 512mb of ram and another 128mb vram this is much more than the ps3

it generally takes YEARS for an emulator to be developed for a console and the first place it will appear is on a PC.
Besides, can you imagine trying to cram all the controls for a Vita onto one touchscreen? Yeesh....
I know this is an old thread but it has also copped a lot of wrong answers.
To all of those people saying that it's impossible and that PS1 emulators have barely been perfected and blah blah blah. I will say this now: The PS1 has a completely different architecture to any Android phone/tablet (apart from MIPS ones, which are very rare.) The Vita on the other hand has a CPU with an ARM architecture, which nearly all Android devices have, the Vita itself needs to be hacked for all of the API's and the OS to be emulated but that will probably be the hardest part (apart from emulating the Graphics chip and other complex hardware.) It should be a similar task to emulating Windows programs on Linux and Mac with Wine, or emulating different x86 OSes on x86 hardware, this is also the reason that I think iOS can be emulated but nobody wants to do it because Apple will find a reason to sue them (a reason why I have never bought an Apple product and hopefully never will.)
The message here is to be an optimist, never say impossible and good things will follow, possibly in the form of a Vita emulator on Android or an iOS emulator.
Yeah Seriously

lol 30 years, honestly you can expect an emulator within 10 years of the system release date, if we had dedicated users, I'm sure it get could quicker but it's not "impossible" as PPSSPP, a PSP emulator was recently released on the google store, which runs games PERFECTLY on PC or Mac, it's pretty laggy on my S3-i747m but what games you would expect to run nicely do, of course.
I'm sure newer phones run it smoothly but PSVita games will probably be emulated when the "hype" dies out...
So basically if your asking, can i screw mobile gaming and just buy a phone and bootleg the systems and possibly even play with friends? No.
Can you expect to relive your classics games after you've played them on a legit PSVita in 5-10 years on your Samsung S9 with 16core graphics? Yeah most likely depending on how laws go with the GNU/OSI and how pissed off company's get that they're old ass systems get emulated.
At-least that has been the trend since Atari

From what I remember, bios and rom files are illegal to download. You can make backups of you own the game, and bios file, but they have to be yours.
I doubt this thread will stay open, as asking for that kind of stuff should be against the rules.

As KeylanHalfdan said, there won't be much help found.. I'll start with the easiest part, the emulators..
FPse is $3.95 on the market. PSX4droid is $4.99 on the market. Distributing them would be piracy, so your only legal route is to purchase one or the other, or both?
You can easily make your own ISO images of the game with any number of readily available programs (Free, shareware, commercial and open source).
The bios image is a legal gray area. You can legally make a copy of the bios image in your PS1 console, but it's proprietary code owned by Sony, so unless they give you a special exemption, distributing it is technically piracy. a few years back there were plenty of forums that told you how to extract the image yourself, but it can be tricky and requires a bit of know how and some hardware.
On the other hand, square may port it in the future, since they are porting games to iOS and android. (notably, the DS remake of Final Fantasy 3 is on iOS and Android, and Chrono Trigger, Tactics, and FF2 I think are available for iOS so android ports may come soon.

I use nes.emu, SuperGNES and ePSXe for Android. All work as advertised.
Emulation is okay on the evo lte, the sound stutters if you take off frameskip. Couple that with bad touchscreen controls and I pretty much hate it. Nothing can beat the superior control of a real Sega Saturn controller or genesis.

Actually it's free on SlideMe. In fact all of Yongzh's emulators are free, except n64oid. I'm not sure why the developer suddenly released them for free but it's not pirated. He even released a limited free copy of n64oid but it's back to 4.99

You need to get roms, image files of the cartridges you own. Technically you can download roms you don't own but legally you only get to use it for a 24 hour period. It's basically an honor system. They trust you aren't breaking the law. Luckily for me I own a ton of games for several systems lol

Was wondering if you ever got any roms and emulator to work? It's easy as pie. All you do is dl whatever NES game you own (chuckles) put em in a folder n name it whatever u want. I named mine NES. I haven't messed w/emulation much on this phone. Iv nesoid (must have) for me anyways. I'd like to get a mame emulator on here n see if it n my phone will cooperate w/one another. I'm gettin ready to test a few out on the HTC EVO 4g LTE. Afterwards I'll post a list of the good, bad n what not.
And finally... Are we allowed to post links to sites like Rom sites?

I would not, its a grey area that's best to avoid. Mame emulation is very fickle, even on the best pcs. Some sites will not post the full romset, some have to be edited because they work on certain boards and need to be set up a certain way. I have reloaded and I've had to "scrub" my romsets and some still don't work.

Its my 1st post!!
In the months since our initial release
of the Most Hardcore Emulators on
Earth, there has been a plethora of
Android emulator releases, and so our
emulation-meister, Travis Fahs,
decided that it an ideal time update
and augment his epic list, and so we
present to you The Most Hardcore
Emulators on Earth 2.0. ~ed.
We all love our Androids, but let’s face
it. We still have a way to go to catch up
to iOS’s massive library of games. But
Google’s permissive market standards
and Android’s ease of side-loading
(installing non-market apps) makes it
the king of emulators, opening up tens
of thousands of games that iOS users
can’t play without having to jailbreak
their phones.
Those same lax approval standards that
allow emulators to run rampant also
mean there’s a lot of garbage to filter
through. Many emulators on the
market are just clones or hacks of
others’ work, while others are
overpriced compared to more robust
alternatives. It can be tough to pick the
right one for your favorite system, so
Hardcore Droid is here to share our
picks for each of our favorite systems.
(1) RetroArch
RetroArch is an effort to bridge the gap
between PC and Android emulation, by
offering a very powerful, accurate
emulator that supports more than a
dozen systems, and by doing it all for
free. With such broad support, it’s
pretty much a must-have for any
emulation fan. It’s the only way to
play Virtual Boy games or Cave Story,
and it offers the best Sega CD emulation
you’ll find on the Android. While it’s a
bit lacking in terms of interface and
usability, and some of the cores are
pretty slow, it offers some of the most
accurate, high-quality emulation
around, and support for more systems
is on the way.
(2) MSX.emu
The MSX probably isn’t nostalgic for
many English-speakers, but the 8-bit
computers had some of the best
Japanese computer games of their time.
Home to many Konami classics,
including the original Metal Gear,
Metal Gear 2, and Snatcher, the MSX
came in a variety of flavors, and quite
a few add ons. MSX.emu is based on
BlueMSX, arguably the best emulator
for the system on PC, so expect nearly
flawless compatibility and support. As
an added bonus, there’s also support
for the ColecoVision, which featured
very similar hardware. The price tag
may be enough to scare some away,
however.
(3) fMSX
Marat Fayzullin is one of the
godfathers of the emulation scene,
developing some of the very first multi-
platform emulators in the world,
establishing many of the cores that
would be used by others, as well as
creating some of the file formats still
used today. He began fMSX 20 years
ago, and amazingly enough still finds
time to work on it. There are a number
of appealing features here, including
interesting video filters, music
recording, and touch screen mouse
support. Best of all, it’s available in an
ad-supported free flavor, as well as a
paid app.
(4) Marvin
For kids who grew up in the UK in the
early ‘80s, the ZX Spectrum conjures as
many memories as the NES does for
those of us in America. Uncle Clive’s 8-
bit computer led the charge of
inexpensive PCs that parents were
scooping up for their “educational
value.” Of course all most kids wanted
it for was to play games. The primitive
graphics and sound haven’t aged well,
but that doesn’t make Jetpac or Knight
Lore any less of a blast. Marvin is a
genuinely great little emulator, and one
of those that is completely free, so even
if you’re a newbie to the system, you
might want to dive in. Lots of great
control options and speedy
performance make this a stand-out,
even with other options available.
(5) Frodo C64
Any discussion of 8-bit computers
would be incomplete without some love
for the Commodore 64. There are a
few options out there, and none of
them are perfect, but Frodo 64 offers
solid emulation in a free, open-source
package. Those SID tunes still sound
great with a pair of headphones.
Juggling keyboard and joystick controls
can be a bit of a bear, but maybe that
will finally justify that iControlPad 2
purchase.
(Arcade)
(6) MAME4Droid Reloaded
Arcade emulation has always been
tricky, since it’s really a collection of
hundreds of different pieces of
hardware that may or may not share
some components. MAME is one of the
most important emulators of all time
because it manages to cull all of these
into one package, and for broad
compatibility, it is the only option. But
MAME was built for accuracy, not
speed, and even high-end PCs can
struggle with some games. As a result,
most versions of MAME made for less
powerful or portable systems have
been based on a version of MAME
released in 2000, back when speed was
more of a priority, and this is the case
with the classiv version of
MAME4Droid as well. This means it
runs a tiny fraction of the games its PC
counterpart does, and features many
bugs that have since been squashed.
Seleuco’s Reloaded release puts Big Boy
MAME in the palm of your hands for
the first time. Based on a relatively
modern build (0.139, released in 2010),
it features accurate emulation and
broad compatibility. The downside, of
course, is that it requires a monster CPU
to run, and anything past the 16-bit era
is still probably too choppy to be worth
playing, but we can’t wait to see what
it can do on the Nexus 4. Alas, both
versions of MAME are badly crippled
by poor control options, and an
inability to save these options on a per-
game basis, so it’s not recommended
unless you have a good control pad.
(7) NEO.emu
MAME may be the all-in-wonder, but
there are better options when it comes
to specific systems. NEO.emu offers
fast, accurate Neo Geo emulation for
both the console and arcade versions.
As the most popular arcade hardware
of all time, this opens up quite a few
options for classic 16-bit action. Bonus
points for making sure the touch screen
controls support four presses at once,
for those bold enough to attempt King
of Fighters without a controller.
(8) CPSEmu
Capcom’s CPS2 was their go-to 16-bit
machine from Super Street Fighter II
all the way through Marvel vs. Capcom
and beyond. Although it’s mostly of
interest to fighting game fans, a few
oddballs like Progear and Super Pang
buck the trend. This emulator is
available completely for free from
XDA, and is not currently available on
the Play Store.
(NES)
(9) NES.emu
Robert Broglia’s work is going to come
up a lot in the feature, because every
one of his emulators is top-notch. They
share a common framework and
feature set, which includes excellent
external controller support and robust
video options, but they also go the extra
mile for their individual systems. Not
only does NES.emu support a wide
range of mappers for broad
compatibility thanks to the FCEUX
codebase, but it also supports the
Famicom Disk System, which opens up
a sizable library of imports, as well as
the famous zapper, so you can play
Duck Hunt on the touch screen.
(10) Nesoid
Nesoid was one of the first emulator
casualties of the Android Market. At
Nintendo’s request, a small handful of
emulators were permanently banned
from the market, including Nesoid.
That hasn’t stopped it though, as you
can still download it and side-load it
manually, or nab it off of an
alternative market app. Nesoid isn’t
quite as polished as NES.emu, but it is
available for free now, which might
make it an attractive alternative. It’s
also very fast, for those still rocking a
G1.

Read the forum rules then, also I recommend watching the noob video again. And as it happens outside of the Galaxy Y forums there is hardly any warez. Galaxy Y just happens to be a hotbed for warez due to a lot of pre-teen users.
Do not post warez in future, it is not looked upon well.
