oK Guys im going to buy a new S2 of ebay wan basically wanted to know which version of the S2 is the best to buy
Depends on what country your in and intend to use it in, But generally I would recommend the international version GT I9100
The plain gt-i9100.
I have to agree with the above users. The international one is the easiest to handle when it comes to rooting, flashing etc A lot less hustle imho

hey guys,
i'm currently doing some research for the 14 y/o brother of a friend, whose parents have just allowed him to get a smart phone.
i only ever bought nexus devices and would recommend him the nexus s, but unfortunately his limit is ~180 euro and the nexus s is ~270 euro here in germany. thus i need some advice.
he can't decide between the galaxy ace and the wildfire s. which one would you pick? i'm looking for things like easily unlockable bootloader, stock android and cyanogenmod support. but those things seem to only be found in older, cheaper devices.
what would you say has the best bang of the buck and is future proof and could possibly get cyanogenmod support?
thanks,
x
I would go for the galaxy ace because it has more development.

yup, that's my observation so far. there's even an unofficial cm7 port for it.
until i can come up w/ an official supported device in the price class, i'm gonna tell him to go for the ace, or if possible pay 100 bucks more for the nexus s.
Yeh galaxy ace if you want to root it, wildfire s has not been cracked open yet so has very little support

Not true .
galaxy ace..
samsung updates their firmware fast compare to htc..
I would go with ace.
However i found only one issue where you will need to remove the battery to get it back to work. When you enable the wifi and leave the phone idle for a long time, the screen goes blank and none of the button seems to work. You will have to pull the battery to fix it.
Lol looks like someone prefers form over function.

I was just saying that not any samsung phone could "fit the bill" .
Galaxy Ace for sure. It has more support, plus, he's 14, I'm sure he and his friends will care about the looks a lot. Teenagers are very judgmental really.
I am confused.
I bought myself a brand new Galaxy S2 in white color.
On the box it says GT-i9100. Color: Ceramic White. Made in Vietnam.
When I turn it on it says I9100, not i9100g.
So I want to flash ICS but I am a bit afraid as I am not sure whether it's i9100 or i9100G.
Does the i9100 exist in white? It's from Vodafone Germany, and comes with lots of bloatware.
Go to settings and then about, will tell you the model number.

Given everything else you've mentioned, if it says "I9100" on the sticker under the battery on the phone chassis, I think you can safely assume it's an I9100. Colour has nothing to do with it. For example, in Australia, carriers here sell the I9100 & I9100T and both are available in white.
Edit to add - Rizur is correct, if it has I9100 in settings then you've definitely got an I9100.

Thanks a lot. Well, it is a GT-i9100. So I think it's safe and I will flash through Odin to get rid of all the crapware it has.
Is there any ICS custom rom you recommend? (For battery and performance purposes) Or should I just go stock?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks! Well, I knew it all along, it's a I9100. But I just was confused.
There are many custom ROM's to choose from. But make sure you back up everything and read lots and lots.
You get Samsung based ROM's and Android Open Source Project ROM's, read up on differences and what can be expected from each ROM, including pros and cons.
Good luck!
Edit: if you already know all that^, then I suggest HyDrOG3N -ICS, I'm really enjoying it

Thanks I will try it out. First I'm going to install the stock version and if it's laggy, I will try the one you pointed out!
As I am on a Galaxy Nexus with AOKP, I wanna see how ICS stock performs on the Galaxy S2. It's not for me but for my brother, so I still want it to perform well

I don't know about gt-i9100g, but I'm using SHW-M250S (korean gs2) now.
as i know, there is three type of korean gs2, m250s/k/l. s/k is for gsm, and l is for cdma.
m250s/k is i9100+nfc+dmb(korean tv broadcast)+some pit difference.
if u just flash pit for i9100 on m250s/k, you can flash all roms for i9100 on m250s/k.

I don't know about the Korean variant of the galaxy s2, but the major difference between the GT-I9100 and the GT-I9100G version is the SoC. Exynos (made by samsung) is present on the normal (non g variant), and has a lot of dev support because it is the first international variant. The G version has Omap4 SoC, the same as galaxy nexus, which makes it more dev friendly as Omap4 is more easy to develop. However, the G version has 1 GHz processor, not 1.2 (like the non G), tho users are very happy with the G version. It all depends on what you plan to do. If you want to flash AOSP (such as CM9/10) ROMs, you'd be better off buying the G (version) since developers are now leaning towards that. Both phone have custom ICS and JB ROMs, so you don't need to be worried about that.
As far as the battery is concerned, I'm happy with my S2, I can easily spend a day using it with normal use. I plug my phone in at night and plug out after waking up, and use the phone for the whole day without charging again. I guess you could say its reasonable for such a smartphone. I don't know about battery life on the G version, though.
Both phones are alike in physical appearance, and the way to distinguish between them is just the from the bootscreen or written behind the battery on the phone, and on the box ... maybe someone else may tell you more about it.
Sorry for the long post

People in India are not happy about getting the g model in the box when they have paid for the non g model.

the i9100 has the dual core exynos 4210 with mali 400 gpu specs on sheet its faster than omap 4430 , but u wont tell the difference ! the i9100g has a better battery life and is powered by sgx 540 but its overclocked from 233mhz to 384mhz other than that they are the same ! plus i noticed that my i9100g comes with 11gb storage only not 16! which is kinda weird
Dude, give up on the idea and just get a Nexus 4 if you want Jelly Bean.
Don't even think about getting any other Android, it just won't be the same as getting the updates straight from the big G.
Good job necroing a 12 mth old thread
ok so i have 2 S1 phones and 2 S3 phones. i loved the S1 and has been great to me and i bought the S3's because they are power houses BUT its not comforatble to me and i like the S2 look and feel and size of it is just righ tto me and i know that with so many differnt types which would be best??

get the I9100P if you are interest in using the NFC feature in the future.
otherwise the international version is fine.
It truly Depends...
What you need and in what u are interested...
Like SGS II X and HD LTE have greater Hardware... But i9100 have best development support
Peace

I tried searching the forums with no luck. My question is very straightforward: Are Samsung Galaxy S II custom roms compatible with the SGSII Plus?
Thanks in advance.
u mean are the i9100 roms compatible with the i9100p variant ? if yes then yes c: btw make sure ur phone is unlocked first before monkeying around with the roms
SII plus is slightly different than I9100.
Don't flash anything just yet.
