[Q] DId i just brick my htc hero?:( - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i got a problem im not sure but i think i bricked my phone i dont really know how to expalin it either, well i want it to update it so i downloaded update from htc website for sprint but i think i had to download it for hero G2 with i found later so i installled it i had an error phone turned off now i cant do anything with it it wont turn on only vibrate 5 times? if i connect it with usb laptop wont see it i cant boot it or nothing but when i put it on charge it heats up? any ideas?

Sounds like a brick to me... Do you get any output on screen, what OS are you using on your PC, any response from it ?

nothing happens when i use usb cable and windows 7. Today when i was trying to turn my phone on again power on/off + home it vibrated 5 times?

Pull out your battery, plug it back in, hold POWER+VOL DOWN, and it sould take you to HBoot, if you cant do that then im very sorry and your phone is hard bricked...

i was wondering would that work?
How to flash stock ROM through SD-Card
*This only works with current stock ROM or newer version. Downgrading will fail till we have SuperCID. More about that in here!
1. Run the RUU and get the rom.zip from it. (Find it in here "c:\users\%usrename%\appdata\temp\")
2. Copy rom.zip to the SD-Card and rename it to PJ46IMG.zip
3. Put the SD-Card in the card reader.
4. Put the card reader onto the USB Y-Cable.
5. Plugin the USB Y-Cable to your One X.
6. Hold volume down and press the power button while keeping the volume down pressed. This will get you into HBOOT.
7. Wait a couple of seconds and you'll see that it finds PJ46IMG.zip
8. Follow the instructions on your screen =)

Biggest question is - can You go into fastboot mode? Because there is a way to flash Your phone is You can go into fast boot, and there should be a manual somewhere here, not using One X, but hero ;]
Let us know, does the phone respond by going into fastboot.
Additionaly : how did You downloaded firmware for sprint, as You should give IMEI number on HTC site.

Can't Open Boot Options

Hi Guys,
I lent my old Hero to a friend and they stuck a passlock on it. annoyingly they now say they can't remember what it is. So I've been trying to figure out what they set the passlock as, would have been something pretty easy I thought as they aren't that clever! Still can't seem to get it.
So I thought I'd go into the boot menu and try to restore the phone. Remove the battery and then turn the phone on by holding the power button and home button but I get this screen http://grab.by/9dYe which is giving me a bad feeling.
Is there any other way I could wipe the phone?
Thanks,
Charlie
Ok, from reading another thread I'm wondering if it's possible to place the newest RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622 in a .zip files named HEROIMG.zip in the root of the SD Card. I can then hold the Volume Down button on boot and use hboot to flash the phone with the new rom.
Is this correct?
Here's a video of me attempting to install the RUU via hboot.
To be honest I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. My device still has a passlock on it, so I can't run the .exe on my computer because the phone can't sync.
hmmm... as seen from the video, You can get into fastboot menu and connect your usb to the PC. then run Your RUU exe. Have you tried that? Does a passlock lock the exe from doing it's job?

Why do you need sync? if you have drivers on your pc, then the rru.exe should do it's job...

Hello everyone,
Short and simple....I've f*cked up.
A) I have no recovery flashed to my device
B) Fastboot/ADB is not working with my device, because the original cable it came with got destroyed, and all other microsd cords I've tried, charge only.
C) I have no rom on the phone.
All I have access to is a 8GB microsd card with adapter to read it in my computer.
My phone is useless right now and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have to ask, how did you end up with no rom or recovery? Have you tried putting a recovery on the phone yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521169
Use the second option (marked easy), granted that works then it should be a matter of loading a rom onto the sd card and flashing?
Good luck!
If you can't get into fastboot, you're pretty screwed... Try and get your hands on an original cable

well good news is that you're not bricked... bad news is that you need a working cable to get into fastboot to flash a recovery as previously mentioned lol
also for future reference this should have been posted in the general sub-forum btw lol
im sorry but i think the only difference between the original cable and the USB Cable Micro USB is that i htink the Original cable has a better layout so it doesn't fall out now? like on my other blackberry the usb comes off so quickly. Here its imposible for it to come off. Shouldn't they function the same? it just has a different head size.

I tried to use the wind RUU, but don't you need to be oem locked, which is done through fastboot?
If I was to gain access to fastboot, what would be recommended to do right away.

First off, this shouldn't be here but in General/Q&A. I'm sure binary will move it there.
Secondly, just to go step by step... When you pull the battery and restart while holding the volume down key what happens?
Lastly, I would recommend placing the wind RUU on your sdcard's root.
Step 1) Visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...;<br />Rom||RUU|| Shipped Ruby ROM Collection
Step 2) Download the appropriate PH185,,.zip file to the root of your SD card...
Step 3) Put the sd card in your phone, Boot into HBOOT by Pressing VOL DOWN + POWER together...
When you can get into HBOOT, the system will identify the PH185 image on your card and will ask you if you want to update. Press VOL UP for YES to confirm... and let it flash.
Step 4) Grab a beer and enjoy your Amaze
p.s. If you cant get into HBOOT, than your screwed...
I am able to get into hboot, when I get into hboot, it takes a while for it to read thr file, when it finishes it just dissappears, no prompt to apply update.
I think my usb port is short circuited or something, because sometimes it shows hboot usb, but it flickers on and off. Tried three other wires, only the one shows any sign of usb functionality for me. If going out and buying another wire will help I will go, but I have no idea if it will.
I had the cwm 5.5.504, I had the dual cpu rom on it, but i wanted to change to sense 3.5, and I got stuck in the bootloop. Then when I boot into recovery again, my batt died and now when I try to get into recovery, flashes for a second then goes to white htc screen and hangs there indefinitley.
Usb wires only charge my device as of now.

this is why you flash stuff with a full battery... you probably got stuck in a bootloop because you didnt flash the sense3.5 kernel, so my first recommendation would be to flash the dual core rom.. but since you cant get into recovery... hm...
HOLD ON. cant you flash the older cwm through hboot?! wasnt that the old method? place the pxxxx.zip on your sd and wait? why dont you try that and see if you cant get into recovery?
Do i rename the wind RUU PH85.img as well? or .zip?
I just went through all these steps, and then the PH85IMG.zip loads and reads, but no prompt comes up to update or not.
My phone is relocked via fastboot oem lock
so you got fastboot working, or what?
if so, there was some method to flash that PH85IMG.zip manually
kind of 'fastboot oem rebootRUU' something like that
I just tried that, it brought me to an hboot screeen with a RUU highlighted option, no option to do anything with it.
it should been reboot you in to RUU flashing mode (black screen with some logo in the middle of it)
you didn't answered, your fastboot is working now, right?
so why don't you just flash a recovery? or you tried?
I ended up with this.
my fastboot is working, only because i have the wire contorted in this weird way
If fastboot is working then try downloading the toolkit and using it to flash recovery. First thing to do though is make sure that battery is charged up.

Xperia S stuck in CWM loop

I hope this is in the right section, don't know as I am new to XDA.
But I have a real issue. Here goes.
I recently updated my Xperia S to ICS. And I thought I want to root it.
So I went ahead and started, but when I should have placed a zip file on my internal memory, I extracted the files there instead.
So no, on CWM, when I am supposed to install from .zip file, I can't, since I do not have .zip file there.
I have tried almost all of the options on CWM on the phone, nothing works and I just get back to the start.
So my question is, how do I get out of the loop?
Is there any way I can access my phones files? So I maybe can put the SuperSU .zip file in the directory?
I can boot the phone in fastboot mode, but then it doesn't show on the computer.
Or maybe I can just reverse everything? An easy way, because I am not the best when it comes to this. I have found some solutions, but they ALL require that you put files on your SD card. Only problem is that my phone doesn't have SD card, only internal memory. ANd I can't access that right now.
Please help
Download Flashtools from http://androxyde.github.com/
Download a stock ftf rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
Put the downloaded rom in the flashtool/firmwares/ folder, then go to flashtool/drivers/ folder and run Flashtool-drivers.exe, when that has finished restart your computer.
Turn phone off, now press and hold the volume down button and connect the phone to your computer with the usb cable, when you get a green led you can let go, you are now in flash mode.
Start up flashtool, or flashtool64 if your on an x64 system, click the thunderbolt icon in the top left corner, select flashmode and click ok, in the left hand window select the rom you downloaded and then click ok in the bottom right corner.

Is your Bootloader unlocked?
Hello, I'm having the same problem too, but I wonder how do I "turn off" the device, since I keep pressing the top button to do this and it reboots and goes into CWM mode? Will I have to remove the battery?
Good news. Luckily I managed turn off the device. In the CWM main menu, keep the cursor positioned over the option that resets the device. Hold down the power button and immediately after, press the volume up and hold. Wait until the device vibrates 3 times. Now ready you run the procedure to connect in download mode and reinstall your firmware.
You guys must have used cmd to flash nozomi-recovery.img?

Yeah, exactly. I used recovery-nozomi.img with CWM version 5.5.0.4 ... but I made a mistake in not installing SuperSU.

Nothing to worry... Happened to me too.
Use flashtool to reflash entire ftf(if you have ulbl) else use SEUS to repair (if you have lbl, I hate pcc!).
If lbl.... Then ulbl.
Use cmd to flash a custom kernel(don't use doom kernel its for gb).
Finished....
Thank... If helpful

Had a similar problem.. FIxed it with a lot of reading but now dnt remeber anymore :/
I'm having this problem too...
Almost everything is ready for flashing now, except the phone is not really turning off, even after 3 vibrates when holding down power and volume up... It turns off, but coming back in flash process!
That's how far I can go: It turns off, I hold down volume down, connect it to PC, have a green light. Flashtool see the phone, I push Flash button,Program gives "Device connected in flash mode" message, then "Selected Xperia s (LT26i)_WORLD_6,1,A,2,50_IT.flf" message, "Preparing files for flashing" message and "Device disconnected" message, because this stupid Recovery back on my screen again...
If I just can find the way to turn off my phone, so it's not come back to live when connected to PC...

SOLVED!
I manage to fix it!
Just wait for Flashtool to give error message (with phone picture and USB cable in it) and ask to reconnect device. Unplug device, press power button and volume up button until vibrate 3 times. Push volume down and plug usb cable, to get green light. Flashtool continue process from where it was broken.
Error message popped up not from first try, so hopefully this will be helpful to somebody...

HTC One stuck in bootloop.

Hi All,
I have an HTC One that is stuck in a bootloop and have no idea how to fix it.
Unfortunately, there was a screen lock and after failed attempts, it started to delete the data. Stupidly, I tried to reset the phone at this point. As a result, it is stuck in a bootloop.
I have tried holding power and volume down button, volume down button by itself, both volume buttons and still can't get it to fastboot screen.
I am using Mac OSX.
Also, nothing had been done to the phone prior to this. All stock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have a few options, though it would be helpful if you had access to a PC, because then you could just use the RUU program to set everything right. You will need to know which variant of the One you have as in from which carrier or region, if it is an international version, as well as the system update that it was on as you can not downgrade while stock. The phone will eventually reboot if you just hold the volume keys and power together for like 30 seconds.
Option 1) Find a Windows PC and download the RUU exe, put the phone in bootloader mode, and follow the directions of the RUU.
Option 2) Unlock the bootloader at htcdev.com, install a custom recovery such as TWRP, and use a custom rom to get going. (This one you should be able to do on a Mac - voids warranty if you have one)
Option 3) Find a way to extract the rom.zip from the RUU exe and use fastboot to flash it. (Might be able to do on a Mac, though not familar with it to tell you what tool you could use to extract files from an exe on OS X)

Thanks for replying.
It is the HTC6500L that was originally used with Verizon in the US. Not sure if it matters but it is currently unlocked and using Optus sim in Australia. I'm not sure what system update it was on
I am going to try and get it working on my Mac first but it is good to know that there are options for me with a windows PC.
So you say that the phone will eventually boot if I hold both the volume buttons and power button down for about 30 seconds?
The phone is currently off as the battery has drained. If I charge it, it automatically goes to the HTC logo and into the boot loop. In order to get anything fixed, I need to get to the recovery screen right?

Try to boot into fastboot (phone turned off - connect with data usb to the computer - vol down + power on). Extract rom which is currently installed or higher (for your respective model) and flash from it:
fastboot.exe flash boot BOOT.img
fastboot.exe flash recovery RECOVERY.img
fastboot.exe flash cust CUST.img
fastboot.exe flash system SYSTEM.img
Reboot.

That is what my phone is doing, I tried to upgrade to marshmallow though with no root!! I put the zip in the dload folder and went through the upgrade process everything went through the phone rebooted and now its dead. Blank screen and if you hold power after a few seconds it will vibrate but that is it. I presume its hard bricked? no matter what combo of buttons I press I cannot get it in to fastboot.

ok I'm looking for a solution for hours now... so I just lokked how works our phone and I think the trouble must be in the preloader, because I can't even make my phone being recognized by any computer and I can't access to recovery.
I found this :
http://www.droidgyan.com/soft-brick-vs-hard-bricked-vs-broken/
Which could help. I'll leave that topic on for some days (if it could help someone) and I'll open a new one to know if there is any easier solution ! thanks and good luck.
I sorted mine, it was only 2 days old so I got it replaced by the shop I bought it on. I would say it was something like a pre loader from what I saw. I have never bricked an Android phone and I must have had 15-20 of them since my first HTC Magic and before that Windows Mobile which again I messed with tons reloading with all sorts of ROM's!! These phones are wayyyy too sensitive to being messed with, I always remember though that you never mess with the boot loaders, but it looks like these updates do to get it bricked to that point.

I just hard bricked my Honor 7 the same way. Is there really no solution? Other China-Phones are pretty much unbrickable, since you can always fix it via the preloader. No such luck here? Back to the shop and hope they actually replace it? While I admit it was stupid to just hastily start the OTA while having twrp and not stock recovery (no root, though), this is a terrible design flaw on Huaweis side.
Anyway... any hope or no chance?

@Idiocrate try to boot into bootloader mode just by pressing Vol DOWN button and simultaneously connecting it to a PC, don't press Power button, if it boots into it, then follow the method given by @piskr in third post.
