Hello XDAdevelopers,
My GSII wont turn on after i auto reboot or auto reboot into recovery.
So i installed the stock ICS rom via ODIN, everything went fine. but when the installation finished, the phone stay dead, it wont reboot unless i remove the battery, wait a few seconds and put it in again.
So i booted into download mode, flashed the Root BOX JB, with syah via ODIN, everything fine. But it wont boot again.
I removed the battery, wait few seconds, place it again, then it turns on.
Every time i reboot my phone or turn it off, it wont turn on unless i remove the battery.
Do you guys know why this is happening ?
Already flashed stock AOKP, CM, STOCK and now trying with ROOT BOX, always the same problem.
Update1: Flashed the stock ICS ROM and Kernel trough Odin and still cant boot without removing the battery =/
Update 2: Flashed with PIT and Re-partition checked, still the same =/, what else should i try ?
update 3: Flashed the stock XXLPH kernel after the PIT, still the same =/
Exact Same problem

Hello guys!
First of all, I wanna tel you that I've tried everything in my knowledge to fix this issue, but I had no success so far...
My phone keeps freezing in the lock screen for no reason...
Please watch this video I made for better understanding:
I've tried flashing all kinds of ROM and the only one I don't get this issue is ICS XXLPB, which got me thinking that it must be due to a downgrade issue as I have previously flashed KP8...
I've tried flashing the complete XXKI3 ROM WITH PIT file and Re-Partition ticked, but it didn't solve this....
I'm really out of options here...
It started with LA2 all of sudden... I thought it was a system thing, so I wiped everything with no luck... then tried all kinds of ROM...
This is ODIN's Log:

EDIT: Just flashed CM9 and it works without any problem!! WTF is going on??! Gingerbread ROMs got this problem but ICS ROMs don't!
Is there any way to pretty much format the whole phone? So it doesn't hold any information? Start from scratch??
Any suggestion guys? Please, I already ran out of options here...
you could try super wipe

its in the download bit of the first thread
do u have a backup b4 , u can long press shut down and boot to recovery , restore your backup
do a hard reset, maybe itll help
no wipe worked... system, cache, data...
i think it's not hardware as ICS ROMs work normally... i really don't get what' going on...

I read somewhere that this problem came from "enable hw acceleration" under developer options on ics leaked roms.
May be that u enable it on ics? It's weird because I understood that u have this issue on gb...
I would try if it was my phone to flash ics and enable and disable that option then reflash GB....

hmmm I don't know about that... Why would an ICS setting remains active in GB ROMs? Even after wiping all data, system, and flashing a new ROM with PIT and Re-partition ticked?
I've been noticing that the phone won't turn of the screen if you let it sit doing nothing... doesn't matter if you set 15s, 30s, 1 minute.... the screen doesn't turn off by itself... it just dims the brightness and stay that way...

Agree with you 100%. So it's hw related? If it is hw why with ics it works fine?
Did u format system&data from cwm->mounts?
Another question is if u did enable hw acceleration in ics. If u didn't do this forget my doubt...

Yes I did.. data, system, cache and dalvik from CWM...
If it was HW issue, it wouldn't work in ICS aswell... that's why I'm so pissed off...
I'm not at home right now, so when I get back, I'll try flashing XXLBP again and checking the Development section...
I thought of some firmware issue, or driver... like a firmware that works fine in ICS but no in GB, maybe screen driver or GPU... I've flashed Speedmod, Syiah and NEAK's kernels... but don't know if that is related...
Ok... tried flashing SuperWipe, flashing XXLBP again and checking Development settings (everything was OK), tried wiping data, system, cache then flashing KI3 with PIT and Re-partition... NOTHING worked... seriously, there's no way to complete format this phone... everytime it retains stuff from last ROMs...
I give up... I'm taking it to a Samsung repair center tomorrow... hopefully they don't take too long with it...

I appreciate your help but it didn't work...
I've flashed this kernel cleaner then flashed a normal CF-ROOT and no deal...
Thank you, but i don't see any other option... I'll take it to a repair center...
Just came back from Samsung's Repair Center.... showed them the problem... Apparentely it all went fine... Now I just have to wait untill tomorrow...
They said this: "It's probably just a software issue, we'll have to re-program it".... I hope they don't use Odin 'cause it won't work... Hopefully they have a JTAG for that...
Good day gang,
I was trying to sort out a USB Host problem and from another forum I was following a thread in which they stated to flash a .pit etc etc etc. Last time i do something from another forum. Ive been here since WinMo days....i know better than that....
Well...I've loaded up Odin....got my ROM (Factory) and it would hang on NAND Write Start. From there it would do nothing.

Had that yesterday (only worse, Odin stopped half way during the flash), pull the battery and wait 30 seconds, put back battery and cover. Insert a jig in the phone`s usb port and you`re in downloadmode. Now flash a stock rom with Odin V3 3.0.4.
If you don`t have a jig you could try in manualy (volume down + menu + power button at the same time). If that doesn`twork there are threads on this site to revive your phone after a bad flash, please search for them. Good luck

First close everything Kies related, also in the windows traymanager. Rightclick on the bottom windows bar and select taskmanager, there are Kies aplications also and end them. Tick autoreboot and f.reset.time then retry flashing the rom with Odin. You don`t need an extra pit file because it is inside the rom already. Report back after you`re done please.

I believe it is the International Version, the ROM is brazilian if I am not mistaken (I9300XXALF2_I9300OXAALF2_I9300XXLF2). BTW this is a Demo Unit, so I don't have the calling services. But I do remember that when I was inquiring about aftermarket ROMs I found out this one was Brazilian.
So yes, this is the International version.
So you borked your partition table by flashing a .pit? It would probably be a good idea to go one step back and fix your partition table before trying to flash a Rom.
I'm sorry but I have no idea where to find a .pit to return your partitions to the factory state.

Hello,
Is your Galaxy S3 with internal 16Gb card?
Thanks in adavance.

Hi everyone i hope somebody can help me my problem is that i was on Stock Rom 2.3.6 and i want to put a custom rom so i root it, i did it everything good.
But then following a tutorial of how to put cwm i did it like the video flashing with odin and mine said success but i have bootloop. I never tought trying to enter cwm so i tried to flash stock rom again but didnt have success.
It started but have only fails in odin and now i dont know how but it haves a NAND rw corruption and doesnt let me flash roms only kernels.
When i try to flash a rom i have that problem. So looking on internet now i know that is a soft brick because only i can enter download mode not recovery.
I already tried to do what a thread over here says about how to recover from a soft brick with a recovery package and a kernel, also tried to flash a bootloader that came with that but it doesnt let flash. It stills turns on but only download mode.
I take it to repair but here in Mexico cant even tried something they gave me back my phone and they have it 3 days there for nothing, is it hard brick or something like that because it doesnt come back with that tutorial of soft brick
PS: It haves the triangle i know that is something normal when you flash it, but in the download mode my count number is 24 ._. too much i know but thats because i already tried everything i found and still like that, is there a problem with all that counts? i dont have a jtag
I think this is the LONGEST sentence I've ever read in my life.
Would you mind if you put some periods? I'm having a hard time decoding what your post means.

I put enters dont know why it go out there like that, but sorry the point of my problem is that:
1.- I was on Stock Rom 2.3.6.
2.- Rooted and everything fine.
3.- Tried to flash cwm following a tutorial and didn't start had a bootloop.
4.- Then i tried to flash back the stock rom and there came the problem:
- I can only access to download mode.
- No recovery mode.
- Sometimes it said on the screen when turning on "Samsung Galaxy S II" with the triangle, but other times says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again".
- Always says fail in Odin when i tried to flash a Rom (Only Kernel success), the problem is the Nand rw is corrupted.
- Already did a tutorial to recover a soft brick but no success it gaves the same error of nand rw.
- Cant flash an old bootloader that cames with the tutorial of soft brick.
I don't have a Jtag but i can put it in download mode so i think i dont need it or im wrong?

You should not flash with bootloader. Try flash the recommended .pit file instead. After a successful flash, flash the ROM.

I tought that when is Hardbricked it was when it doesnt turn on or go to download mode, but maybe your right.
Im gonna try that thanks, but I think it will have fail because it says to flash PDA .OFFICIAL XWLPG and as I said it doesnt let flash any rom with that NAND rw problem.
Anyway if i try only flashing Siyah Kernel could it help? I was reeding something about dual boot or something like that

no.
-Nand corruption is also hard enough to make your phone useless.
-that method should work since you are only flashing kernel as pda
I'm waiting for your feedback

Anyway, if your phone is still under warranty, you can probably send it for repairs

It didn't work for me because it needs to flash the XWLPG first but i can't flash roms, so I couldn't pass from there to Siyah Kernel.
Thanks anyway, I can't take it I bought it used from a friend, RIP my S2
Youll still get around £120 for it on ebay.

Thanks, i've read that guide earlier and tried a few steps with no luck.
Is this what i should do?
"WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues "

no dont mess with that 'Bootloader' one ma8, there is one on how to use pit file look into that
look for this in that thread
Recovering a soft bricked phone
1) Grab the Recovery Package, and you'll see a bunch of .tar files. Take a look at the names. You'll see CODE, MODEM, CSC and .PIT. Put each one in its place.
2) Turn off your phone. Enter Download mode by presing Volume Down + Home + Power button.
3) Plug in your phone. It will show you, in a yellow box in ODIN, ID:COMx (x being the number displayed, sometimes displays 7, sometimes displays 9)
Now here, take a breath
First try flashing WITHOUT the .PIT and re-partition. And only if it DOESN'T WORK OR FIX then you flash with the .PIT and Re-Partition ticked.
4) Once ready and done all your prayers, press Start. Wait patiently. It usually takes 5 minutes to flash.
Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!

What do you mean splitting the firmware? Are you talking about decompiling it and breaking it into system.img, boot.img, etc?

Are you trying to flash the entire firmware or are you trying to install those separately? I ask because it is already in tar.md5 format to flash the entire thing with Odin.
In fact the instructions to flash the entire firmware are on the page if you scroll down.
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

If you still want to break it apart I can probably help you

To completely reinstall the firmware use the directions on the Sammobile download page.... the ones I posted above. You only need the one file. Besides, I am splitting the tar.md5 apart now and there is only boot.img, system.img, etc.... they are not Odin files like in the video
