Dell Streak 5 Custom Internal Memory - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Based any some other threads on this forum, I've been reading about swapping the original 2GB internal card for a new 32GB card, and the one principal question I have is, does the new card have to be formatted first on a PC, or does one just plug it in 'raw' so to speak?
Thanks in advance.

you dont go straight for 32gb card without knowing anything... have more read first... take your time understanding.. no need to rush anything...

Thanks for cautioning me, can you recommend a few links somewhere that can educate me better, in the successes and pitfalls I should know about.

So, whats the size of the included SD Card? 8gb as planned or 2gb with sprint trying to pull a fast one?

And hey man, I've read the rules and I know how to search. Its not like this is the fisrt post in the last 5 minutes that isn't repetitive. You go over the speed limit sometimes right? It was just poor judgement lol just chill.
some people dont have nothing better to do than to F5 and wait for a new thread to pop up and get their flame on if at all possible.

Yeah...search is broken for most part and even if you did search, there's mixed views/answers on this. A thread was necessary.

The funniest part to me was that the first 3 responses had nothing to do with the thread topic. Not until the fourth post did the question get answered lol.

There are 200 useless threads in this sub forum already. Why not find a thread where some one says they got the phone today and ask in there. There are several of those already around. I have read a couple of threads today on people getting their phone and this question has been asked in those threads and answered. I do not go around and try and flame people or troll threads. I can put up with a lot of non sense threads, just because I choose not to read them, but there are so many threads that don't even need to be started.

Same error. I figured I'd run into issues when I copied the SDCard contents. I have an extra 8GB Class 6 and replaced the included 8GB Class 4.
My Evo 4G had a Class 2.

How to prep a microSD memory card

New to Android and searched but found no answer.
Could someone please explain the best way to prep a memory card for the S3?
Do I need to format it (in a certain way, FAT32 or otherwise), create dedicated folders for the kind of contents or just dump everything in there?
Does the phone create the folders?
I have read conflicting info about whether the S3 supports 64GB cards. Someone please confirm.
On stock the phone will support 64gb cards formatted with fat32 or exfat, SOME custom kernels support both but some only support fat32, for now.
As far as folders go the phone creates the ones it needs.
Basically just stick it in and go from there, its a pretty pain free process!
You'll manage fine.
As far as I know they are already formatted as fat32.

Thank you for your help.
Does the phone create the folders as soon I insert the card the first time?
Sorry didn't buy one yet, hence all the questions, I would otherwise just stick it in and see what happens.

There are several graphical SD card graphical analysis apps... did you bother to take the time to use any of them or even search for them?

This is the general section, not development. No need to answer like that. It's a legitimate question. It would have been easier to point him to the apps you mentioned. Not everyone knows about those. It's a perfect opportunity to teach someone without putting them down.

Its a perfect opportunity for the user to try to do some researchnon his/her own on something so minor. If he/her didn't bother on something so easy can you imagine how they willing want to be spoonfed in the future...?

On my TP, in the SD Card storage settings it's color coded. I have 16G's free out of the 25G. What takes up the most space is purple which is songs, pics, and videos.

[Q] RAM Increase

Is it possible to increase ram, by swap or whatsoever
And please do not reply negatively. It is just a question

Using swap is the only way I've heard, I think after too much use it can burn out your sd card. I read that somewhere. Dunno if its true.

swap decreases the life of sd card...
but
here is my question,
how long you are gonna use your sd card ??
better the class, longer the life..
a class 8 sd card may have 7-8 years life...
swap will increase the r/w cyles and hence life decreases.. (may be by 1-2 years)
it's not like that you are gonna use your sd card for 5 damn years
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
Man if it keeps on working for even one year, i will be damn happy XD. But please tell me the final ans. Should i do this? Plz help me out.

If you really need this - you should calculate how much memory you need for your apps... you can try even with programs that making swap image on sd card. If you will see no difference than you may just delete this program. Other way to increase ram place is just to kill / uninstall apps thats are not needed and taking part of memory like autoupdates and synch.
This is the reason why i like bareboned roms.

soo Do I HAVE to have a sdcard to root my verizon s4?

Bought a galaxy s4 about a month or so ago because I was forced to change carriers (long story) and about 2 weeks after I dropped it and broke the screen. Just received my replacement and it is the me7. I was excited to root it and had no idea there was any issues. So do I have to have a sdcard to root or is there any other option? I really don't want to read through pages of info just to find out there is nothing I can do.
Verizon is really starting to suck. So glad I gave up my note 2 for this

You have to have an sdcard for the me7 root process and it has to be formatted to exfat
