It is possible, but highly illegal. Windows is not open source, so pretty much anything you do to 'hack' it on to a device it was not intended for is a violation of the license that covers Windows.
Does that stop us?

Okay, thanks, guys. How can I get anyone to port a WebOS rom to my device? xD
Crespo4g
Firstly, webOS is closed source, and won't get ported. OpenWebOS, however, is being worked on (should be close enough, no?). Having said that, there have currently been no successful ports of OWOS... yet.
If you need to have it done for your device, and you need to have it now, then offer loads of money, and the freelance developers with come (virtually) running. I'm sure that would be a most welcome gesture.

Thats just not gonna happen, as suggested, you can get a launcher to give it the look and feel, but forget anything else, we have barely just got gingerbread, and i don't see much more development after that.

Maybe I'm lost, but please explain how this will help in trying to get a windows phone operating system on an Android phone..
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
It was in response to your comment about barely getting Gingerbread. Regarding Win Mobile 7.x, there is no way to put it on the Streak as far as I know. Win Mobile 7 is as evil as iOS, in that Microsoft tells you what you want and you will like it.
Microsoft took an approach in between Apple and Google, their operating system is still closed source, but manufacturers can license it. They control the hardware it is on, like iOS, but they allow it on any phone that runs that hardware. We don't have the source, though, so it would be really hard (and I would imagine not worth it based on the response so far) to port it over to our hardware.

Oh geeze. Do we really need more drama again ala Team Touchdroid?
At this point it really doesn't matter to me who gets things working but it would be nice if people could cooperate and not get into mud slinging and that sort of thing.
Internet fame is a silly thing. At the end of the day no one knows who someone's handle really is in real life and they don't care, they just want a decently functioning ROM for their device.

I for one am glad to see that progress is being made. If it take's the Devs time to co-ordinate a release, that's all good. Consider that the TouchPad has ICS, and in a state that is serviceable for many apps. When the HW accel is available, it will just make it sweeter.
Not bad for a $149/$99 tablet, IMHO.
Not sure when or the likeliness of this not getting extended but thought it'd be worth sharing. The exemption that makes jailbreaking the iphone and rooting android is going to run out and if it doesn't get extended, these activities could be deemed illegal.
http://gizmodo.com/5879180/jailbreaking-or-rooting-your-phone-could-become-illegal-again-fight-it

I thought it was all about Apple too, but they did make reference to Android in the article. But it never was that big of a deal before with Android, was it? I just hope carriers don't look at this as an opportunity to pounce on the users.

I am sure they can twist the Legalese to say that you own the device, but Apple merely let's you lease software at no cost to you. This means that they still own the software, and if you modify it, it's illegal.
Gotta love EULA's. Check out iTunes one, it actually says that you cannot use iTunes to develop nuclear weapons... I am sure they could easily hide the "We own the software, so you cannot jailbreak it" somewhere.
Should not apply to Android, since it is open. Google could possibly pull a very **** move, and say if you root it, you lose the license to use gapps and market, but that is highly unlikely.
Android is and always will be open source. As long as android is Linux based rooting and modding android will always be legal.

This, all of this. I don't care what they do for Apple's ****ty software and operating system, but Android is open source and is licensed under ASL2.0. You can read about it all here: http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html
ASL2.0 is basically granting permission to do anything with it so long as the license is distributed with it, and that you indicate what exactly you've changed in each file you've changed.
Open source is open source is open source.

Paranoia? Wouldn't trust myself with one personally. (I like guns, but I don't have sufficient training to use one responsibly, and I don't believe that 99% of people do either.) But this isn't a gun debate ;-)
Insane to try and make 'rooting' illegal. What a complete waste of the earths resources. Only reason for this is to try and please the money makers.

I AGREE!! the way I see it once I give them money for the device I can do what ever I want to it because it is no longer their property, it's mine!
so if they want to not honor warranties then that's fine but making rooting illegal it completely stupid and I don't see how they could stop people from doing so...

Sure but windows is a closed source OS,so unless you can make drivers for ever peace of hardware in the device you have no chance.
Plus the only version that will run on ARM processors is Windows 8 RT which requires a special locked boot loader.
Short answer not possible
Long answer...would take alot of people alot of hacking to even have a chance of something even then likely not to happen.
However you could install Linux very easily!

Sure but I still really highly doubt it seeing how locked down Microsoft plans to make Windows 8 RT
Personally I would rather see a complete working native boot of Ubuntu first.
But stranger things have happened so we shall have to wait and see

Thats soooo olddd omg. There is an app called carrier iq to tell if u if you have it. Most of providers have removed and almost every single custom rom has it removed. Dude this article is form december 2011.
That's old news. Like, really old. Look at the date on the article. Verizon doesn't use CIQ on any of it's devices. It may use something else, but so far we don't know of anything, so any claims otherwise are just FUD.
