Access Number On My Android Device! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there...
I have a very bad problem with my android device...
I have a android tablet device and I like to use 3G on it but my 3G career settings need access number value. It's *99# but I can't find "access number" section on my APN settings. Please help me to solve this problem!
Thanks a lot!

Access number is used if you're using a 3G modem on a computer. It's like an initialization so that computer thinks it's dialing up. Modem would still have APN settings set up inside.
If you have a tablet, you need the APN settings. Generally, copying everything from another phone on the same carrier does the trick. Calling up your provider and asking them directly will also work. I've had to do that before.

Thanks for your quick answer!
As I said, I have an android tablet. When I use my tablet modem on my PC, it works perfectly! But when I connected it to tablet it didn't work. I try another simcard (with different career) and it works on my tablet then my tablet, modem and simcard works but settings on my tablet for 3G simcard is wrong!
Only different between settings on tablet and PC is "Access number"! So what's my problem? I'm so dizzy!!

Ok, lemme understand it correctly..
First of all, you have two sim cards that you can use in the tablet. I'll refer to them as card one and card two.
Card one - you put into tablet, and the internet doesn't work. However, when you tether tablet to a computer internet works. Right?
Card two - internet works fine on the tablet, and if you tether it to the PC.
Is this about right?
Ok so, here's what I would do.
Insert card two, check APN settings on the tablet. Settings -> Wireless(2.3 and below) / More... (3.0 and above) -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Take note of the name, APN, MMSC
Insert card one. Check APN, and see if they have changed. If they're the same, then the sim card doesn't specify APNs, and you'll need to talk to your provider. If there's nothing there, same story. If they have changed to something else, then it's a good sign. Keep troubleshooting.
What I mean by sim card specifying APN... Some providers encode their sim cards with all the APN settings, so you can easily swap them. Others code those into devices, so if you insert sim card from second type of provider into device from first time of provider or no provider, you won't get any settings and will have to do them manually..... Sorry if this is confusing
Ok, so, if there are new APN(s) after inserting card one, check if you have packet data enabled (same menu - Mobile Networks). Then check if you get 3G(Edge,H+,4G etc) symbol showing up on the notification bar..... If you don't then most likely APN settings are still wrong, which brings me back to call your provider. Otherwise, you may have problems with proxy, or somewhere in the system.
Oh, and that access number, seriously that's not your problem.
So try the above, and let me know how it works out

[Q] My Atrix 4G does't connect to mobile internet

Hello,
I have an unlocked AT&T motorola atrix 4g mobilephone in Spain. If I put inside it a Vodafone SIM card I can connect to the internet (3G) without any problem after setting the APNs, but when I try it with a Euskaltel SIM card (an Spanish virtual mobile network provider that uses the Vodafones network) I can't connect to the internet (3G) even if I set the correct APNs.
The problem is not the SIM card because it works in a Nexus S after setting the APNs, and as I have said, the Atrix also connects to the internet with a Vodafone SIM card. But Euskaltel+Atrix doesn't work.
The wierd thing is that after I set the APNs, or activate the internet roaming, sometimes appears the arrows that it is connected but just for a few seconds and then dissapear, but even with the arrows if I open quickly the web browser it claims that doesn't have internet connection.
I have tried with other ROMs and the same thing happens, and also with an AOSP ROM like CM7 beta, there is no way to make it work.
Does any one have any kind of clue to solve this?
Regards and thank you

Try creating a new apn & call the first field "euskaltel" & the second one "internet", leave the rest as they are, click save & activate it. That worked for me a couple of months ago with a yoigo card.
It doesn't work, but thank you anyway

PROBLEM WITH 3G IN NO MINICM7 make or receive calls, SMS, PLEASE HELP.

It's amazing the amounts of items that are on this, but without any solution. And the cast is bothering me to keep him for 2G (although the battery is good for: -
So here, I want to comment very detailed experiences, all they did before the 3G phone runs out.
I also want to try and see if I am not alone, go to: Settings / About Phone / Status and look where it says "Type Mobile Network." This do it once with the SIM card and then put the SIM card no.
When I do it without the SIM card in "Network Type" I get "UMTS", which is what you should say to run the 3G, if I remember correctly.
When I do it with the SIM card in "Network Type" I get "EDGE", which is what we do not want to say ..
Also when I put in "Flight Mode" (Settings / Connections wireless) appears as Type Mobile Network: UMTS (Put it in flight mode it does is turn off the radio telephone, cuts all signals)
Reading around, I saw someone mention something about EFS folder that contains the frequency and the IMEI of the phone (admittedly not very well that this folder is enrealidad EFS). The look in the phone and not. If anyone has a working 3G, PLEASE, find this folder, copy it to the Root Explorer to the SD card and if possible, upload it to any server. (Not that this folder contains files, but the IMEI is not what interests us, and do not know if anyone will want to hang your IMEI on the internet)
Another thing I read is of the NPC. The set number of times. But I say they are misconfigured the NPC does not make the phone can not have telephony network without being in 2G, at most not be able to get online, but that does not always required to take to use 2G networks.
Probe many tutorials to no avail, so here I need great minds to join the forum and help us think about how to fix this and if possible, make a fix to upload to the forum.
I thought about testing a virtual machine for Android, but without a cellular connection on the PC, half would be useless. Like I'll see browsing files in a clean install on the PC to see that match.
Anyone who can bring something, please, would be helpful. We are several with this problem of having to leave the phone to use only 2G networks to work. Nothing is impossible and everything has a solution, although not enough, if we give hard (we can) all, we will solve.
Of course, thank you very much and greetings to all!

Lumia 800 on Straight Talk . . . Live Services Borked

Anyone try this? Windows Phone on Straight Talk?
Mobile data (internet) works perfectly fine (and fast!) but I can't connect to live services . . . which kills the user experience of a Windows Phone. The Live services work over wifi, but when there is no wifi connection, the services, including marketplace, bing search, scout, etc simply refuse to connect.
Any thoughts on how I can correct this? I've tried everything I can think of and spent hours searching to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi, I have the Lumia 800 on Straight talk and everything works perfect.
Make sure the apn setting are good.
Is Straight talk a network that gives you SIM card and no phone?
If it's a network that uses some other carrier's masts i.e. O2, Vodafone for example, then there is a solution to it.
How do you get your APN settings on your phone? Do you enter it manually?
Here is what will help you:
Once you connect to wifi to do whatever you wish and you complete using wifi, go to your network settings, mobile settings, then edit apn - enter your APN settings manually. I am not sure what Straighttalk APN settings are but you would surely find it somewhere.
After saving the APN settings, restart your phone but make sure wifi is switched off before you restart.
After the restart you will be able to use Live services with 3g.
However as soon as you reconnect to wifi, you will have to re-do the whole cycle each time in order to get Live services working on 3g again.
This might or might not work. I had exactly same issue on giffgaff. I have spent 3 months trying to figure out, flashed ROMs, hard resets, swapped carriers etc and finally have found this to be the way it works. I own a HTC Titan. Till today I thought, it was HTC's fault because I have ruled out carrier and MS for this. But if the above works for you then, it clearly isn't HTC's or carrier's fault but sure OS that keeps forgetting the APN. The reason this happens is because Straighttalk in your case and Giffgaff in my case, DO NOT have APN settings stored on their SIM cards. The OS doesn't seem to be configured to remember it. Ideally when you swap from wifi to 3g, your OS shouldn't have to read your SIM. However WP in current state seems to be reading SIM everytime you swap from wifi to 3g. However, when it can't find anything on the SIM i.e. APN settings, the live services won't work.
If this works, please please please drop me a PM as I don't use this Lumia forums at all. I have a Titan, so I wouldn't know. But if this works, I will have to write to WinPhone Support with whom I've been conversing for about a month now!!

Mind sharing what settings you're using? Also, are you using WP's built in APN tool or Nokia's Network setup?
APN is: att.mvno (all other fields are empty).
Using the built in WP APN under cellular in settings.
Tried the Nokia but it messed up the phone so I took it out.
Let me know if this helps.
I'm using my 800 on StraightTalk and have had the same issue. I found there are essentially 3 places where the APNs can be set up, and reboots must occur at the right time. (Win settings, ##634#, and Nokia tool)
it seems to be overly sensitive as to how they are configured. I must have reset this thing at least a half a dozen times before getting it to work. Ultimately, I ended up with the settings in all 3 places, but the sequence I did it in is Win Settings (network APN), ##634# (both network and MMS settings), a reboot, and then download the Nokia tool via WiFi and use it to enter the settings there for both network and MMS followed by another reboot. That issue is most definitely related to the APN settings, but I'm not quite certain why I had to do the hokey pokey to make it work. None-the-less, I hope this helps a little. Once you get it working, it seems to stick through reboots, wifi, or pretty much anything except swapping out the SIM card, which hosed everything up again.

Interesting. . . There doesn't seem to be anywhere to do that in the most up to date version of the diagnostics tool. (I know they changed a few things in the most recent update.)
I may have to restore to a previous version . . .
Thanks

I just activated my Straight Talk SIM yesterday (I was on T-Mobile's EDGE connection) and used Nokia's Network Setup tool to add, and make current, a new APN with att.mvno under the Internet APN's 'name' field. That's all I did, and data works fine (surprisingly, even on the RM-801 which doesn't have AT&T's 850MHz band).

How is call quality and what are your download/upload speeds. Been debating whether I should get a RM-819 device which is harder to obtain than a RM-801.

[Q] Adding New APN

Can someone please help me with a most irritating problem I have
I have just bought the 3g stick and got a giff gaff sim card which I have inserted.
I am trying to add the APN in the 3g stick settings and all goes well until I get to the point where I want to save the entry.
I can't for the life of me find out how I save. There is no menu key to press that gives me the save option so I don't know what to do next.
Can someone please help me so I can get some 3g on my Archos
Thanks
Brian
I looked and saw now obvious solution either. your best bet: http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/index.html?country=gb&lang=en
Hi,
first of all i assume you'Re using Android 4.0.x, a.k.a ICS.
If so, it's simple... at least it was for me, as i created a customized APN for the e-plus network.
Please remind that you'll need to activate the USB 3G stick, before you may edit or create APN's.
After the USB 3G stick has been powered up go into settings menu.
Select the settings for 3G networks and enter mobile netwrok settings.
Enter acces point names and touch the 3 dot's at the top right corner.
Select new APN and edit the entries to fit your giff gaff.
AFAIK these settings are getting stored but might not be visible unless you power up the 3G stick.
After activating, you simply select the APN manually and it will be used.
Another alternative is to replace the factory APN list inside the filesystem by a customized one.
This would only work, if you use rooted images with r/w access.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
scholbert
Thanks for the info.
I thought that just plugging the 3g stick into the archos would be all that was required to activate it.is that not the case and if not how or what do I need to do?

Unable To Edit APN Settings

I am putting this here in case anyone runs into a similar issue. When I first got my 7T Pro I could not edit my APN settings which meant I wasn't able to make my mobile data work. For some reason, all the settings were greyed out and I did not have the "+" icon at the top to add a new APN profile.
I did however found a solution. I borrowed an active SIM card from a friend and inserted it into the second SIM slot while my own SIM card was occupying the first slot. This allowed me to add and edit APN profiles. I don't know why or how but it worked, maybe it had something to do with the network? I'm with Telus, my friend is with Koodo. As far as I know, Telus and Koodo are one of the same so I don't know if network plays a factor in this.
Anyhow, I'll leave this here for someone to try if they ever run into a similar issue!
