Today I converted my black 1 1/2 year old Evo 3D to a sweet looking white and silver. Wow 1 1/2 years already!! Well I found the HTC knock off with all the white buttons on Ebay, look for it yourself unless someone lets me know if I can post an item number or link. Well the battery door looks perfect and no different then the original white door. I decided to remove the metal front housing with a little pull since it was already loose from wear and tear. It came off completely with no bends. Watch out the camera button and 2D-3D buttons will fly off! I then cleaned all the adhesive off the back of it and the phone with goo-gone and some nail polish remover. I grabbed my dremmel and with a steal wire brush wheel attachment began to remove the black paint. Then I buffed it with a fabric wheel and it came out sweet! much better then painting. Not smooth but ruff and shiny. It mached the silver on the battery cover nicely. I then washed it and got ready to install it. I placed the buttons in place then applied brush on crazy glue on the lower half where the buttons are and then glued it. Be carfull not to glue the button or switch, a little glue goes a long way!!! I then pulled it back glued the upper half and bammm it was tight and straight. Wow it looks so cool! I love it! it cost me 15 for the battery cover and 3 bucks for the glue. I already had a dremmel kit with all the attachments. For 18 bucks I now have a cool looking white Evo 3D! :victory:I will post a pic if you like but you can pretty much imagine how it looks. FYI dont try to paint the black front face...it will just rub off like the original crappy HTC paint or worse.
Peace!
A pic would be cool... i might consider doing this myself

Ok here are a couple of pics....It looks shinier then on the pics. Had to use another phone to take the pics. The semi dark shades on the metal are from the metal itself not left over paint. I think its some kind of aluminum alloy or something. It gives it a semi ruff look, I love it cause it looks custom! Also the smooth texture of the raw metal feels so cool!

Thanks...Everyone at my job loves it. Yes it will eventually tarnish if it is aluminum. I believe its some type of mix aluminum. If it tarnishes I'll just run the disc on it again and clean it right up back to shine. I guess well see how long it stays clean.

Just finished painting the extra Commuter Case Plastic Piece.
I started out by isolating the upper part with blue painters tape. Then I spray painted it with Rustoleum Red for Plastic (wanted Krylon Fusion but I couldn't find it anywhere). Sanded down and repainted like 4 times. Finally I took some Brasso and gave it a nice finish. I probably should've used some clear finish, but there's always more time.
Comments?
looks cool, did u sand it first or did ya just paint it? i think im going to do that but im going to have it john deere colors, green on one half, yellow on the other
Nah I didn't sand first. The surface seemed rough enough. Just covered the bottom with painter's tape .
Well it looks cool, just might have to do the same!!!!

So I was a little tired of the bulk the neo hybrid added (or maybe coz of the same looks for almost 3 months ). I ordered an aluminum bumper from eBay (which is still on its way) and a battery cover (which i received). Here is the back case . It was the Angry bird one that i selected. But when it arrived It was a really cheap print job and didnt go well with the phones overall premium look. but it had a perfect fit and no creaking noise. i was not sure what to do next .i.e. if i should rock it as it is or just forget it ever happened.
On a second thought, Its a cheap case and i had time to spare. I took an old tshirt and some synthetic resin adhesive. Put the adhesive over the back of the angry bird battery cover and placed it on the tshirt backside down. and let it stick on for a minute or 2. then cut the cloth around it in a way that it had only 1-2mm sticking out on all four sides and wrapped it onto the inside of the cover and put a thin line of the adhesive running along the border of the cover. Its pretty simple if you have the right adhesive. the only tricky part was the camera cut out, which took time and patience as i didnt have a sharp blade, i was using a small knife instead and was too lazy to go buy one .
Here is the end result. (time spent 30mins)
The last pic showing the inside might look like the wrapped in fabric is going to come off, but i can assure you that it is stuck pretty well and feels solid. Now that is one custom case
What do you guys think?
Update
And finally the bumper arrived. here are the pictures. I had some clearcoat scratch resistant sticker lying around so put them on the corners and sides of the bumper for more grip and protection (hopefully).
Looks good. Did it tear above the S-Pen when installing the bumper?

Actually a grey fabric strand came off revealing the black cloth behind thats all. it does look like its torn on the pic may be i can take another pic later.
Cool idea. How did you wrap the fabric around the outside edges and still get it to snap on properly?

Its all thanks to the adhesive i used. Really strong. do not use super glue as it will leave blotches of dried glue visible through the outside and will not give a even finish. Also when selecting a cloth for this make sure it is very thin and not too stretchy. thin coz we dont want it sticking out on the sides when wrapped around, it will not let the bumper fit in properly. not stretchy coz it wont give the fabric an even lay on the back.
Hope it helped

Well, got a surprise from the post office as they delivered my skins today! Just installed the Distressed tan skin and wow, I now have the sexiest N6 ever! Thanks so much @slickwraps! I did take the stock plastic cover off and I am using a old skin as a base layer below the leather skin. Sits flush with the phone now and looks like it was made to be there. The leather is top quality, smells great and is super grippy, way grippier than the carbon fiber skin I had. Because this ****s flush, you can use any case you want. I am using the Ringke Slim fit for when I'm at work. Enjoy the pics.

Yes, you can probably tell from the black around the trim that this started as a blue N6. Just sanded away.
Looks good.
This is soo cool, well done! Also, the metal part is awesome! I am still waiting for my leather to arrive from slick wraps. As you have stated in your post, you have put the leather on top of your old skin, was it due to a thin leather? Or what was the reason?

First reason was because I wanted a buffer in between to cover the holes(pattern)so the leather wouldn't show these "dips", just a smooth leather back. I also wanted protection for the ribbon cable for the side buttons that runs back there, I didn't know how ofter I would be swapping skins and I didn't want it pulling up on that ribbon when I took it off.
I also have the Bamboo back and a extra middle housing and I can tell you that the bamboo won't work as is. It's maybe .2 inches too wide so it bows in the middle. Not a huge problem since it's Natural wood and can be sanded very easily(carefully)to fit. This is what I'm going to do. Just take about .1 inches off both sides and it should be Golden.
Awasome!
Regarding the sanding of the metal part, how hard was it to sand the buttons? I have a white version of nexus, but now seeing how brushed/polished metal frame looks makes me think of doing same ?!

I left the buttons just natural aluminum. My hand was sore from polishing the frame so I gave up lol!
I just did the same thing with mine. I was ****ting bricks while removing the back plate in fear of damaging the ribbon cable, but damn was it worth it.

On Jul 3rd I pre-ordered two dBrand skins for my OP5 and they arrived on Jul 6th. The two skins were the Mahogany wood (back and camera lens cover) and the Hyperblack Titanium (back with red camera lens cover and red 1+ logo). Even though I wanted to add the front Mahogany skins the fact that I've also ordered the Ozly tpsp screen protector made me realized I'd have issues whenever I needed to replace the screen cover.
Attached are pictures of both skins with accessories un-applied and the Mahogany skins applied including the camera lens cover. Notice that the two Mahogany skins have different wood patterns. Running your finger over each skin I realized that the Mahogany adds almost no additional grip to the slippery naked OP5 while the Hyperblack Titanium skin has more texture which I believed would add more grip. This is not to say that once applied the Mahogany skin did not reduce the overall slipper feel of a naked OP5, as it did. In the future I'll likely try the Hyperblack Titanium but right now I really like the Mahogany's overall look the best.
I still bought a cheap clear plastic case which is currently on a slow boat from China. I'll use it when I'm going someplace where accidents are more likely such as camping or a party. These skins are so thin that I don't anticipate putting the case on to be an issue.
This is the first time I've every bought or applied a skin as I've previously only gone with bumper cases. Over all I think the application went well but I certainly don't have the corner flaps applied as well as seen on dBrand's OP5 application video. Most definitely you need a hairdryer during application as I had a bubble under the skin and heating that section and the bubble's path to the outside saved having to peal the skin off to start again. It works much like you push bubbles out from a clear plastic screen protector. Getting the initial bottom alignment applied properly is the key to the rest of the application. Mess that up and you alignment issues multiply. Heating and stretching the skin is dangerous and only helps with the tiniest of misalignment.
The dBrands fit overall and specifically around the buttons is as perfect as a mass produced item can be. In conclusion, if you choose to use a skin you'd be hard pressed to find a brand with a more accurate fit.
P.S. For grip the Carbon Fiber would likely be your best bet but I thought it was butt ugly so went another way.
Edit: Added top, bottom, right and left side pictures.
Hyperblack comes along with the white 1+ logo? Or is it just the packaging design?
I am thinking of buying Black Dragon.
Usually, when is the Dbrand Sale? Any idea?
Thanks

No, what appears on the Hyperblack picture as a white 1+ logo is just the skin's backing tape. The Hyperblack I picked has a cut out of the 1+ logo then I ordered the red colored logo cut out to fill in the skin's logo cut out. On the Mahogany skin I chose not to have any 1+ logo so the skin was solid (no logo cut out at all). The Black Dragon skin was already available when I purchased my skins. I was tempted to get that instead of the Hyperblack.
I have no idea when there will be a sale. I didn't feel the price was too excessive. In fact I would have only bought the Mahogany at this time but the added $5 for shipping meant that a second skin only cost me an extra $6 and the shipping on both skins became free. That's much like how Amazon prices small items to be just under the free shipping costs to get you to buy one more item. In this case I went for it as a Hyperblack skin also tempted me.
I just got the black dragon skin with orange logo and camera cutout. I previously used the titanium and the hyperblack on my Nexus 6p and I can say that the dragon skin has a very similar texture than the hyperblack. IN terms of looks, I have to say that it looks similar to the hyperblack except for the cracked look/texture and the slight silver highlights in certain areas. All in all, I think it looks amazing on this device.
Im looking to grab one of the Mah Wood one and having it under my Orzly flexi case. It looks pretty amazing with the wood skin. Would you be able to show off the sides of the phone? I would love to see the fit on the sides

Just be careful with that combo on a Rhino Shield. they can rip off Tempered glass and the cases lately have been so tight getting them on with even a skin on is really hard and taking it off is even worse. I damaged my OP3 trying to get the Rhino Shield off when using a skin. best results is to cut the skin so it doesn't go up and down the sides or corners of the phone.
I still remember ordering that case there was no warning on the prouduct page about it not working with tempered glass and when I complianed and got nowhere a sudden disclaimer went up :/

It definitely has some texture that helps the phone be less slippery but not as much as I expected. But it certainly help add a decent amount of grip, especially on the sides of the phone which are very thin and rounded.

Ye my mate was saying the RhinoShield on his OP3t is way too tight and difficult to get off. I saw one on a S8 and looks a fair bit looser, hoping it's a bit looser on the OP5 and fits.

I know DBrand are big state side but with the phone not being available for our American counterparts it'd doubtful they'll do a skin for the P20 Pro so I've order a brushed slate skin via xtreamskins. I was just looking at this today. Instead I ordered a few cases off eBay. They look like they better protect the cameras. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/112914026578
I'd appreciate that
Got my skin from these guys today. It's not that great of a product but works for the price. Application is pretty straight forward but a pain getting it to align with the cameras and flash. The good part is that you can peal and reapply and it doesn't affect the stickiness of the skin. The edges don't stick down at the rounded corners so you definitely need a case over this or it will peal off

You need to heat skins on if the edges are curved.....get your mums hairdryer on it
I had same ssue with mine. Emailed Xtream Skins who offered to send out a replacement (I've gone for camo this time as slate doesn't look as good as on photo render).
They sad that they've changed the design and after looking back at their website you can see that the the skins now wrap around the sides of the phone.
Regards the sides not sticking. I put the case on over the skin and over night the skin stuck completely due to pressure from case. Beats the hairdryer technique that didn't work for me.

Any photo that I can take a look and decide to buy one? I interested in the black camo
I have got this one from 7layerskinz.com. Fits very nice.
Got my black camo skin from Xtreme in the UK. Came within 2 days. The video instructions are really straight forward, I got the back glass one only.
Would take a pic, don't have a spare phone at the minute to do so! Was cheap too. £6.99
Fitting was easy, the key is to activate the glue by using some gentle heat and pressure. No lifts on any corners or sides. No bubbles as it's got air release channels in the back, but you gotta push the air out before you seal the sides! Made that mistake on my iPhone seven last year.
It's definitely less slippy now with a skin on.

Do remember that the application for clear skins will be problematic if it is not a wet install. With skin installation, generally you would have to handle the adhesive with your fingers and that means imparting fingerprints on it. With non-clear skins that isn't an issue as you will not be able to see the smudges. With clear skins you will and the only way to prevent this is to perform a wet install.
