My Atrix 4G is soft bricked? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to unlock the bootloader using a guide called "Motorola Atrix 4G: Full Update Guide." I can't post links, but it should be the first result in Google using the keywords "how to unlock the motorola atrix bootloader cyanogenmod."
I tried to enter the ''fastboat oem get unlock" command, but it wasn't recognized in command prompt. I tried to flash a stock rom but that didn't work either. I have a hunch that I didn't install the drivers correctly... I was running Android 2.3.4 4.5.91.
Anyways, it gives me 14 options to choose from, is there anything I can do?

When you boot, where is it getting stuck? If it's the 14 options, can you post them?

I also have the "Failed to boot 0x1000" issue. Under it are the options.
1 RSD
2 Fastboot
3 NVflash
4 BP HW Bypass RSD
5 BP HW Bypass QC DLOAD
6 BP HW Diag & Boot AP
7 BP HW Bypass BP Only
8 BP SW Bypass RSD
9 Android Recovery
10 Boot Android (No BP)
11 Device UID
12 console=ttyS0, 115200n8
13 Early USB Emueration
14 BP Tools
As now, whenever I try selecting the fastboot option, it says "Battery too low for flash." When I disconnect my Atrix from the wall charger, it shuts off, but the notification LED comes on. It stays on regardless of whether or not I have the battery in.

If you've done the oem unlock portion with fastboot then you're fine and this happens to everyone when they unlock their bootloader. First thing, let it charge for a couple of hours and don't touch it (just let it sit with the LED on, that's normal when the battery is too low.)
In the meantime, check out post #5 here and be sure to read the rest of the thread, good info on this but ignore all of the people saying "it's dead Jim", etc. and to get to fastboot, don't hold vol up and down, just hold vol down button then when it says fastboot, hit vol up once.
What you're seeing is normal but it sounds like you did it on too low of a battery charge which is really dangerous. Always be 100% charge before you start flashing or restoring.

[Q] hard brick...?

i'm sure there is a thread that has my specific problem here somewhere and i deeply apologize. if there is one please direct me to it.
i got my atrix rooted and was looking for a way to revert it back to stock.
i was using rsd lite 5.3.1 and an sbf 1.5.2 i believe and now all i get is a brief screen and then it goes blank. the screen says:
svf:105:1:2
failed to boot 0x1000
then it starts to flash a third line of text but the whole screen goes blank immediately. if anyone has any ideas. i bought it from a private party so i'm not sure if i could get it warranted...
any help or direction would be great.
just for additional info, my battery was charged prior to this happening (92%)
Read this
thanks. i actually just stumbled across that thread like 30 seconds ago. hope i can fix it. =/
Actually, if it shows starting RSD protocol or something to that effect, it can still be fixed.
If it shows nvflash than currently no, it cannot be fixed
i'm actually not sure what the third line of text is.
this is actually exactly what it does:
http ://youtu .be/ 3fwcoin3c_I
i'm not allowed to post links yet so i had to space it out.
Ah... It says entering Nvflash recovery mode. Sorry, it cannot be fixed. I feel for you, but one of the main 'rules' while using the atrix is to never flash a FroYo sbf over a Gingerbread one.
He didn't flash froyo he flashed the version before froyo. And yes your phone is officially a paperweight.

I just recently did this and my heart sank. I kept trying thou and found a way out. I held down the power button and the volume up key while placing the battery in. It gave me the following message.
SVF:105:1:2
Failed to boot 0x1000
PwrReason: PWR_KEY_PRESS
Starting Fastboot protocol support.
From here I was able to fastboot and unlock the phone and install the CWM recovery. I did fastboot reboot at the end and now I have a functional phone again . Useful information
Also, sorry for digging up an old thread, but it's one of the first ones that google pulls up when you look up that error code.
please help, same issue
Hi
I recently did the same thing, however I used 2.3.6 4.5.141 sbf to flash my currently 2.3.6. 4.5.1.45 . There was a problem with a font installer i and this this turned out to be my last restort. RSD Lite failed, twice o nthe 100% completion, something to do with failed to enter BP mode. Note that, on normal power on i am getting failed to boot 1.
Power + Vol Down
entering nvflash recovery, cuts off
After a full night charge, same thing but says battery too low in ddition.
Power + Vol Up
failed to boot 1,
power reason :charger ;
Starting fastboot protol support
Battery too low
prior to allow this battery low issues, when i did the power + vol up and used fastboot, i was abel to run fastboot commands, but was not able to do anythin successufly, example, i got device ID, but erase failed, even oem unlock. I believe the bootloader is still locked due to the update i received 4.5.145. Device is rooted.
Note i had unlocked and rooted and used all sorts of roms before, then reverted back to stock to simply get the 4.5.145 update, then re root.
I really need some assistance, anyone.

I was able to get rid of the "battery too low" message by popping my battery out, cutting up a usb cable, and then plugging the cable into a usb charger ac adapter. The two cables I needed were red and black. Red went on positive lead. Black went on negative lead. I had to let it charge for at least a few hours. This is kind of dangerous and can cause a fire. Don't leave it unattended. Make sure the battery never gets hot. Mine never even got warm. I used three pieces of tape to secure the cable to the battery. I used scissors to cut the tape. One large piece of tape to hold the majority of the cable. One small piece of tape to hold the two shielded red and black wires in place, and another small piece of tape on the end to hold the wires onto the leads. Be careful not to let the wires cross over onto the any of the other leads.
But now I'm stuck. If I hold vol down, it will say "booting into nvflash recover mode" and then quickly go black. The led light goes off also. It's very quick...maybe half a second. I had to take a picture of it in order to be able to read what it says. If I hold vol up it will go to fastboot. If I press nothing it says "failed to boot 1". I can't go to rsd protocol or do anything else.
once bricked phone no longer charges battery you must buy a wall battery charger or a 5 wire usb cable. I bought the wall charger and extra battery for 15 bucks off ebay. battery must be fully charged before unbricking your phone. you need to flash the proper pudding files for the version you are running. i used xatrixweb.webs.com to fix my bricked phone worked great

worked very well for me once i used a full battery. and had to read up his instructions forgot to mention fail to boot XXXX automaticly puts phone in a rsd protocal state after 5 seconds if you dont touch it i beleive it was step 2 where he said to select rsd but phone would read fail to boot just run rsd there and after phone boots with stock software.

Low Battery charge in Ap Fastboot Fix

Hey guys, I recently found an alternative way to fix the low battery problem when your in AP Fastboot and able to get it to charge without the soldering of usb cable or the factory cable. So for those who do not want to open up their razrs or pay 40 bucks for a cable use my method.
-Make sure you have the charging cable connected to the phone and the cable to an outlet not an computer.
-While in the ap fastboot screen with the low battery problem, just push & hold Vol - and Vol+ and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds
-Then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Vol - and Vol+ for 10 seconds to get back to the boot menu.
-Then once in the boot menu go down the the one option that has the word tools on it which is the last one.
-If it does not do anything just press volume up or down and go back to the tools and click power (enter) again.
-Then you should be boot to the M logo.
-Then after a bit you will be presented to an battery icon charging your phone!
-After a good charge up to 50% or so download the program called
New Link
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2248-droid-razr-utility-16-contains-612181-fastboot-files/
-Download that program and make sure your phone is back in AP fastboot and your battery should say OK meaning you can now program again.
-From there run the Droid RAZR Utility you just download it and choose option 1 and let it do its thing.
-Once done you should have the original stock rom and if you had root you must re-root it.
-Please message back for any questions! I am happy to help because I know how frustrating this is!

This really works for corrupted systems after a flash failure without a working fastboot?

As long as once it is plugged in and the screen comes up in the AP Fastboot it will work. Just hold power plues volume up and down then once that turns off immediatley press the volume up and down and it will boot you right to the boot menu. But just wondering what shows up for you if it is not the fastboot?
I can't get it to work, after I select BP Tools, it flashes the Motorola Logo and goes back to the AP Fastboot screen again. I don't think it works if you formatted \System.

Definitely didn't work. When that m logo comes up, it disappears and the screen goes off. The charging icon does not show.
Sorry for the late reply but it is good to hear this method to work for jaredakelly . For those who are having problems did you have the phone charging in the wall outlet and not on a computer usb? The best steps is to choose the the tools option then just let the phone boot to the m logo then just leave it there on the wall outlet. Make sure you are using the Motorola usb cable that came with your phone and its usb adaptor that might make a difference.
I just tried this tut and it works as far as I can tell I am at the screen for battery charging but there is a big "?" in the center, the phone doesnt know what level its at lol..
I suggest you space out and make your original steps in bigger and bolder text for the specific buttons because I almost missed the power + vol down + vol up and was just pressing the volume buttons
This thread should be stickied!
Yeah sorry if my instructions were not to clear this is my first time posting anything like this on this site, but I am glad to hear it is working for you too. I don't even have this phone lol , it was my friend's and he had it stuck on the fastboot so I messed around with it and in the end this was the result.
yep
i think my battery is too low to attempt this i got it on 3 times and tried to fastboot restore but battery kept dying before completion so i guess im just screwed
no you should be fine because as long as the power cable is still plugged in it should work regardless of the low battery level. I did this on my friend's phone with 0% battery.

It's difficult to help when there is a lack of information for anyone to help you.
If you can't update with RSD lite, try RSD alternative:

If you have the factory cable, always use that when flashing.

This is how I did it. You need RSD Lite 5.6 and ROM you already have and, of course, pretty much battery charged (50% at list, otherwise could be a mess). Also, you need ADB installed on your computer in order to get the phone recognised.
Power down your device. Press and hold the Vol+ and Vol- keys, then press and hold the power button until a white screen appears and you can now release all three buttons.
Use the Vol- key (and ONLY the Vol- key) to scroll through the list. Scroll until “AP Fastboot” is highlighted and press the Vol+ key to select it.
Connect the USB cable to both your PC and phone. NOTE: At this time, you may see drivers trying to install but they may not all be successful (that’s okay). But your computer does need to recognize your Razr as a ADB interface device (if it does not, you probably do not have ADB configured properly and you will not be able to flash your phone.
Open RSD Lite and use the program (button to the right of the “Filename:” box) to open the .zip file containing your fastboot files.
When prompted, select the “Uncompress Only” button on your PC.
After it has uncompressed the files, ensure that RSD Lite shows “connected” on one of the ports and make sure that your phone shows “USB Connected”. If you are still not connected you may need to unplug the device and plug it back in (I had to do this one of the times I did this procedure).
Press the “Start” button at the top of the RSD Lite application and let it do it’s thing. Don’t touch the phone, don’t unplug the phone…just walk away or sit quietly and watch. This process should take approximately 15-20 minutes in total so BE PATIENT and just wait!
Once the steps have completed, your phone will reboot…JUST KEEP WAITING. You will see the stock recovery screen and it will need a few minutes to flash the factory ROM.
When you see the phone’s lock screen you disconnect the USB cable and close RSD Lite.

[Q] Atrix bootloop problem

Hi there guys, first of all thank you all so much for the support here.
I have a problem with my atrix, i googled a lot before posting, but i still can't find a solution:
I have a atrix 4G, unlocked, was running successfully neutrino 2,8 version.
After 2 months of being (almost) fully functional, the phone crashed(i didn't do anything particular at that time, i think that i was browsing google maps) suddenly and now i have continuous boot loop, i get only the classic red dual core logo, with the "unlocked" notification over it, and then after 10-15 sec it reboots.
I try to open it with holding volume down, to enter recovery, nothing happens. It reboots again. The computer doesn't see it, in this case.
I reboot it with holding volume up, says "starting RSD protocol suppport", and pc sees it and i get the cling-clong sound of usb.
I would do the recovery using rsd, but i read that it is not for unlocked devices, is this so? What can i do in this case? Thanks a lot!!!

You'll probably need to flash a new recovery partition. Check out this thread:

flasing a recovery is done via fastboot so you don't have to enter recovery but fastboot (hold power and volume down till it shows fastboot, then press up) .

hello i had this problem yesterday, it happens in neutrino rom to alot of people!
and btw i could not open recovery either
ill explain what i had to do
i had to use moto-fastboot and install a new recovery, basically your recovery is dead and your rom is unbootable
heres the steps
download the moto drivers and install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1381183&d=1349549067
then download the motofastboot zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1381414&d=1349555102
and create a new folder in C: (computer) called Android and then drag the files from the moto zip into android
Then download a new recovery http://www.mediafire.com/?6ww8wrjrdqq9m97
place the recovery.img into the android folder
now you have all the files needed to reflash your new recovery and fix your phone the whole idea is to reinstall recovery so you can access it and wipe and install the rom fresh again
now you need to do these steps
1) Attach your phone to the PC via USB (use a port closest to the power supply)
2) Reboot phone while holding volume down until you see "fastboot"
3) Press volume up to initiate fastboot
4) On your PC click the Start menu, then in the search box type "cmd"
5) In the command prompt type the following commands (no quotes, hit enter after each command)
6a) "cd c:/android"
6b) "moto-fastboot devices"
your CMD promt should show something like this
C:\Users\Me>cd c:/android
c:\Android>fastboot devices
TA20703SX9 fastboot
c:\Android>
now if that has all worked type the following phrases
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.4-maguro.img
moto-fastboot reboot
now the phone should reboot, unplug the usb and pull battery out.
put battery back in and then try to boot into recovery like you normally would (power button + Vol Down)
and your new recovery should load!
from here you can wipe your whole system which i would reccomended as your current one is corrupt and install a new rom or reflash your current on onto a clean wipe. if you dont understand how to clean wipe do all of these steps, factory reset, clear cache, clean dalvik cache then go to mounts > storage and format data + format cache + format system
now install new rom and let it boot up, should bootloop a couple of times then start! if not unplug battery from phone and ask for further assitance

Thank you for your help, the problem is exactly here, i put on the usb, i power up the phone by pressing the volume down, and the phone does nothing, doesn't show the fastboot, and after 10-15 secs starts rebooting again. This is my problem!
The only response from my phone is when powering up, and pressing the volume up, it says "starting rsd protocol support"
Is there any case that my volume down is dead?

unplug usb
remove battery, then put battery back in make sure phone off (no green light)
then hold power button and vol down at the same time for a few seconds
Fastboot should appear in white writing then press up volume and it should say starting rsd protocal or something similiar
then plug in usb and follow the steps i have written above
i do exactly what you said, but doesn't show fastboot. from switched off, if i press volume up with power button, i see the message "starting rsd protocol support" .but no fastboot option!
Is there any chance that you can access adb after bootscreen? than you can use "adb reboot recovery" to get there...

When i start up phone, the only combination possible to stop restarting is by pressing power+vol up to show that with RSD. There is no other option then selectable. Power + volume down does not work, doesn't show anything, has anyone of you experienced this thing?
If the only working option you have is RSD, then I'm afraid you're stuck with having to flash a stock SBF. I hope you know/remember exactly what stock version you had installed before any modding or flashing, because the SBF has to match exactly. Choose wisely and read up as much as you can before flashing.
I have over a year now with custom roms, and i can't remember which version i had. Why do i have to find exactly the version that i had? The latest stock version won't work with rsd? It will make it hard brick? If i manage at least to recover the fastboot menus etc it would be great!
I will later also try to open it, to see if the side button "volume down" is not working,.
I have another question, in your moto atrix, if you press on startup power+vol up, are you also seeing the "starting RSD" etc option??

Yes, flashing a wrong SBF will most likely hardbrick your device.

Can't try right now, but as far as I know, yes, that is a standard way to enter RSD mode.
thank you, so, i know that at least my phone responds to some instructions.
Is there anyone else to suggest me to do anything else?
IN rsd mode, (other than flashing a stock random rom with chance of hardbricking,)the phone can be read by usb, can i do anything there?

Sadly no. The RSD mode can only ever be used to flash SBFs. That's it. Nothing less, nothing more.
I will now try to open it to see if vol down is not working well. If it does work, i will select a stock rom 1 year old and i will flash it using rsd, and whatever happens....:good:
I disassembled the phone, the button seems to operate fine(?).
I flashed with RSDlite the 2.3.6 version, the RSD stuck to waiting for phone to restart.
The phone restarted, the "unlocked" logo disappeared.
Starts normally, passes the red motorola logo, shows the graphic of AT&T, and after ~10sec starts restarting again. Bootloop again!
At boot, pressing power+vol up, i can still get the RSD support. Pressing power+vol down does nothing, I don't see any error messages, like the ones in hard brick.
What can i do now, any ideas please!!!
try this

Yesterday I had a hard time getting my phone into fastboot mode, after loading a bad SV kernel,it only wanted to start the RSD protocol mode. I eventually got into fastboot by plugging into the wall charger, then removing and installing the battery while holding the vol button. When fastboot appears, unplug the charger to allow sd access.
Thanks for the suggestion, i tried even this,it didn't work. The funny thing is that it shows the battery charging level full screen if i connect the charger, as it starts.
I noticed also that when i press vol down now, it takes longer to start and continue to the moving red logo, it stays for a while stable red, feels like it is thinking whether to start or not lol (if i don't press vol down, on the power up the red moto logo immediately starts the classic "waving" effects)
Anyone having any kind of suggestion?I guess you don't, right?

[Q] Is my RAZR MAXX hard bricked?

When I click power + volume keys (-, +, and both) nothing happens, 10 seconds later motorola logo appears for 2 seconds and then shuts down again.
Can you give more info?
1. Is your battery charged
2. Did you tried to flash stock roms with RSD, if you did, tell which xml you tried to install.

1. Was charged 80-90% when it bricked. I cant see how many battery is remaining but if i see the moto logo, something have to have.
2. I need the bootloader before trying that. The RSD doesn't detect my phone.
Hi all,
I have Motorola XT621 Primus, after some playings with it and trying to root and add RTL patching i got a brick.
Now the status is that i have fastboot mode working but bootloader is locked, no recovery working and no ADB working, no boot too.
I tryed many ways to flash or unlock bootloader but nothing works. Any commands like fstboot oem got output like (...)
Is there any way to unlock bootloader via fastboot and flash new rom or it completely bricked?
Thanks!

Ok first hold the two volume buttons then push and release the power button. Then click on bp tools and see if the logo comes and than goes to the battery thing. Or try to just go into the same place and say normal boot. If all else fails do a fast boot. and use the droid razr root utility to restore back to stock. Let me know if any of this helps or you have questions.

Try this exactly to get into fastboot mode...
Power off phone
Press and hold volume down and power button
When the screen flickers release only the power button.
If you can get into fastboot you can use Matt's DROID utility to flash OEM Jellybean Rom onto it in an attempt to resurrect.
