Razr MAXX stock or rom - Motorola Droid RAZR
Hi everyone ,
I'm running ICS on my RAZR Maxx and wanted to consult with all of the knowledgeable people here on xda about whether or not I should flash CM10 Jelly Bean on it or if I should just stick to the stock ICS.
I am running Jelly Bean on my nexus 7 and its so smooth and quick that I really want the same experience on the Razr but I am worried it won't be as smooth if I dont wait for an official update.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you have the CDMA version you can try the full throttle jelly bean ROMs over at droidrzr.com. everyone says how smooth they are.

Cm10 is still a bit buggy but ics based roms are amazing.

Well I went ahead and used safestrap which is amazing. Its not like it used to be where I have to wipe the device first but they have different slots allocated to different roms so I can go back to stock if I want easily plus have 3 more roms to choose from
I went with cm10 which is a bit buggy but still works pretty good so now I'm on cm10 jelly bean on razr maxx woooo hoooo

Many flashing directions say to wipe device. Does safe strap leave a clean place to install the ROM without wiping? If I go back to stock, will all my data and apps be intact?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
if u have gsm then stay with stock until cm10 is stable enough for daily usage
The new safestrap allows you to allocate 3 slots to different roms so if you want tp.flash cm10 and 2 other roms you dont have to wipe your device. Its really cool

Yes wipe device after creating and selecting the new ROM slot. You just don't need to wipe when switching between slots 1 and 2 after each one is set up.

I don`t like do wait for operator official ROM so I`m using AOKP ROM. I recommend that.
I didn't wipe the device at all.
You can create the new ROM slot and select it without the need to wipe anything

If you're on GSM, I'd say stick to your Stock Based ROM and work on modifications yourself wih init.d, build.prop, app debloating, etc.
If you're on CDMA, you can try to go with Jelly Bean based ROMs though they're still kinda buggy.
I quit JB ROMs on my GSM due to Mobile Data Problems and System Deep Sleep
Yes, I've studied xda for three weeks on the Droid Razr, and I still don't know how to flash a ROM on this thing. Information is scattered, disorganized, and much of it is old.
Let me tell you, figuring this out is a Holy Terror, unlike my old Nexus One. And as a bonus, almost no one will answer any of your questions!
Good luck man, you'll need it. Most ppl give up.

Well its pretty simple actually once you spend time and do the research
First you download safestrap from here:
http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/downloads/
Then you follow the safestrap installation instructions here:
http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/how-to-safestrap/
then you download CM10 Jelly bean here:
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/spyder/cm10
Get the latest version and save it to your device (Its a zip file)
I just saved it to a dropbox directory and then exported it to the phone but you can do it however you want.
Then you can watch this youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0i-KZ3dJL0&feature=related
Im sure there are others but he uses safestrap v3 so its easy.
And voila you have a buggy CM10 but its jelly bean

Jb rom for cdma droid razr?

thank you for replying with this information. and thanks to all the developers for building the roms.
I looking at my magic 8 ball and it says a JB ROM is most likely in the distant future.
I have never built a room, but i would think this would take a lot less time then ice cream sandwich, especially if its the same kernels and radios. Now undoubtedly if we get official jellybean it'd use newer kernels then we have now. And since we can use the same radios and kernels, i would think the locked bootloader wouldn't be an issue. Bit I'm a newb and could be wrong. Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app

There could be some major hiccup along the way and delay it, or it could be done by tomorrow.. I'm hoping for the second one in that But we'll see
Personally, I think that we won't see Jelly Bean from Motorola, if we get it, will be thanks to the dev community...
i read somewhere on a XDA port for galaxy nexus i think. That JB is almost the same as ICS but it need a modification in ramdisk to work, unless what it wont boot. So without an unlocked bootloader and/or KEXEC we're done
I am trying to get my head around porting ROMs...but my severe lack of knowledge has been a roadblock so far. If someone can and want to join hands in this venture, they are more than welcome...PM me with the details and we will take it forward... Always remember, great things have small beginnings. Cheers!
New to the GTab
Hello everyone Not new to rooting and romming. Plan on doing a bunch of reading and will make every attempt to refrain from asking repetitive questions. But was hoping i could get a few points in the right direction. I am currently running 3.2. Is the jump to ICS worth it? My phone device is bionic and ICS basically turned a crappy bionic into a superphone...im hoping for a similar advancement from honeycomb to ICS. Is there a particular " rom list" short list a few of you fine folks could recommend? Any pitfalls to watch out for or a good thread I should read. Im going to check out all the stickies before I get going. Thanks for the help.
I would look into jelly bean for your tab. I installed it and it was like a new device. Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium

JB performance on RAZR maxx
Hi, One of my friends has asked me to root and install a custom rom on his phone. I havent been following the RAZR's community. Can someone please answer these few questions: 1. Is there any STABLE JB rom for RAZR maxx? I do not care much about fancy features or anything 2. Do all the roms etc work on droid razr maxx too which are for RAZR only Thanks Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Click to collapse The ROMs that are available now are not ready for daily use IMO. Data is pretty wonky and the camera doesn't work. There's also more lag interface-wise based on my own experiences with different builds. They do have ICS builds of AOKP and CM9 that have working camera and data seems more reliable if you want to check those out. Also, as long as it's a CDMA ROM you should be fine.

Click to collapse Well, you should forget about custom AOSP ROMs (Android 4.2 & above) because HDMI functionality is not fixed yet in the Kexec kernel, although it might be fixed someday for 4.4 ROMs (not sure though). So, you should try Stock-Based ROMs which are based on Motorola's OMAP4 Kernel in which everything works out of the box. There are plenty of these, search on the development section of Droid Razr here on XDA. Remember that in order to install custom ROMs you must first be rooted and with a custom recovery installed on your device. Anyway, click Thanks if I helped you
