[Q] Baseband version changed after restoring. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Facing a problem, I had backed up my rom using temporary cwm. I changed to an aosp custom rom, used it for few hours and restored my rom again. But after restoring my build and csc version changed.
Any reason it got changed? Is it normal
What if I want my older versions back?
Fortunately i save my version details each time. The screenshots are of before backing up and after restoring.

It looks like you have the baseband version for ICS 4.0.4 ROM.
Have you tried flashing a stock ICS 4.0.3 kernel?

No I havent, too lazy for that.
If i get a problem then I will for sure.
Just wanted to know, will it cause any problem or issue in usage, if I use a 4.0.4 baseband on 4.0.3 Rom?

I don't think so, but if you encounter any, then you should try flashing to a 4.0.4 ROM.

[Q] XXKH3 ICS Update?

I have the following Galaxy s2:
PDA: XXKH3| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: OXAKH3
Rooted and Siyah Kernel.
I was wondering if there is a way to get ICS update through Samsung Kies (when I plug the phone in it keeps telling me it's up to date)?
I want to keep all my setting and data.
I know it's possible to do it through Odin but all my apps and data will be erased
If there is no way to update using Kies what is the best/latest stock ICS firmware available now? Which one will get the latest updates first?
you can backup your apps and data using Titanium backup and flash a Custom ICS rom from CWM
latest stock is XWLP9 and reported very stable...you can get it from here Rooted and CWM flashable : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
don't really want to keep backing up the app every time there is an update. I just want to go back to stock...

You answered it your self, custom ROM......
Stock is buggy. Dxlp9 is good
I kind of want to go completely stock as I mentioned so when new version of Android comes out I can just update using Kies. Don't really want to deal with all backup and restores.
FYI, there is no guarantee a Kies update won't screw up either though. Always a good idea to back up before an upgrade, be it a Kies update, or an Odin flash. And if you're going from stock to stock with an Odin flash, that won't wipe your phone anyways. (still a good idea to wipe anyways, though...)

rolling back to gingerbread from ics

so im sick of the massive overheating issue when i do anything on my phone, so i want to roll back to the previous version of gingerbread i had. is there any issue if i just flash an official rom using odin? or is there anything else that ics updated, that could cause problems? i updated to ics through kies.

Could be that Kies also updated your bootloader.
Just try to flash an GB ROM.
If you experience any booting issue, you may have to flash an GB bootloader.
You can find the different bootloaders here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16781156&postcount=2
Just look for a grey box with red text.
You can flash the bootloader in PDA section of Odin - same way like for the ROM or kernel.

Heat issues usually solved by a wipe, modem change, kernel change.
If you have not wiped, it's a good time now, as you have to do it anyway when you go from ICS to GB.

How do you change baseband?

Sorry to sound Noob but how do you change baseband? and does your firmware affect anything else?
I came from android 2.3.4 installed CWM and Root. Then Flashed Revolution HD 2.0.2 without updating to 4.1 Firmware first.
Does it affect something or nothing really?
I also want to know how to change basebands?

Baseband controls your radio chip... Unless you have network problems. I don't find a good reason to change it..

You can change baseband by flashing another one with flashtool, it's very simple and fast.
Anyway you need an ICS kernel to use an ICS rom, so you should flash the whole fw related to the android version of the rom you want to use, then install rom.

There are some ftf files around here which only contain the baseband. If you flash them you won't change your whole rom but baseband.

graphics decreased a lot after downlograding from 4.0.4 to 4.0.3?

this is a very weird issue , anyway games like blood and glory used to have AMAZING graphics on 4.0.4 but now after downgrading graphics decvreased a LOT , i used to own modern combat 4 as well and it dosen't even run just black screen , i though chainfire 3D was causing the problem i uninstalled it but graphics are still very bnad compared to what they were on 4.0.4 what might be causing this problem?btw i restored the games from titanium backup didn't reinstall
Which rom you using, have you checked roms thread? Or are you using Sammy stock?
Its more then likely a kernel issue, what kernel version you on, have you tried a custom kernel like Siyah? Why did you downgrade to 4.0.3?
Its common sense to provide such basic relevant info when creating help topics.

What "root" issues did you have?
Btw, your phone didnt "brick", if it bricked then you wouldnt have been able to flash back to 4.0.3. Definition of brick is when you cant flash device or enter into recovery/download by normal means (ie via device or PC).
Its most likely that when you was on 4.0.4 you had root/freeze problems because you was flashing incompatible kernel.
I would advise you to update back to 4.0.4 either with Kies or via OTA and then flash Siyah v4 kernel via ODIN. You shouldn't have any problems.

[Q] Should I upgrade EFS?

Hi,
I'm currently running Paranoid 3.97 (I think), but the phone is currently acting up. I'm stuck in the loading screen, so I thought perhaps I could use the chance to flash a more recent rom. I can't remember the exact baseband version, but it uses "EFS 1".
When flashing newer roms, such as Temasek's 4.4 or CM10.2 stable, would I have to upgrade to EHF 2 first? If so, would I need to flash a stock rom first, so as to upgrade the EFS, and then flash a new baseband (if not already included in the stock rom)?
If I don't have to, are there any real benefits of doing so? Or should I just use the EFS and baseband I am currenly on and forget about it?
If no to the above; would it make sense to flash the latest stock rom anyways (I guess 4.1.2 with EHF2) or is that just a waste of time?
Thank you in advance for any assistance!

AOSP roms do not touch modem/baseband and efs.
You'll fine.
"Trouble" lies in stock roms newer than MG4 (inclusive)
Thank you for clarifying.
Would there otherwise be any benefits of upgrading EFS and baseband?

None at all.
Allright, thanks again. I'll let it be, then!
