I just got a Motorola Droid Razr and I have rooted it. It is running stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM. I would like to get Google Wallet on it. The method I found online invloved putting a modified apk in the app/system directory of my phone. I did that and rebooted my phone no luck. And since the apk was modified the signature of course was bad so the standard install method obviously does not work.
Any other suggestions about how to get Google Wallet on my device?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Did you fix the permissions after pushing the app to the system?
I'm not rooted and don't have Google wallet installed.

Yes, I forgot to mention that but I did update the permissions to 0644 prior to rebooting.
So basically as of this day, can it be installed on a non rooted RAZR? My girlfriend is getting one and she doesn't want me rooting or doing anything out of the ordinary to it. Looking around the forums hadn't yielded much.
And if so, how do I go about doing it?

If it was done I'd have done so, we should file a complaint against Verizon for blocking it and being anti-competitive

Let me start first by saying, this is my second maxx because I rooted and bricked the first one the first day I had it.
I'm posting this to see if anyone can confirm a wifi tether app working on the stock rom (rooted of course) before I root this one because when I root, I'm gonna leave it on the stock rom til the bootloader is unlocked and cwm has a fully working recovery for this phone.
I am currently unrooted with firmware. 181.XT912.Verizon.end.US.
Thanx in advance.

Ill check out the wifi tether app in a few minutes here for u, but cwm does have a fully working recovery unless u mean something different than I'm thinking of. And the boot loader may never be unlocked as far as I know

There is a mobile hotspot hack on these pages somewhere. I couldn't get any tether apps to work but the hack worked wonders. Been using it a lot the last few days I've been on vacation.

I just use FoxFi for a tether app and works great
Foxfi works well and doesn't require root.

FoxFi is a free app in Google Play, and does not require root. BTW, it's very doubtful that Motorola will ever unlock the bootloader.

Yes, I've been using FoxFi for about 4 months now, and VZW is non the wiser. My bill has stayed the same.
Just a note about FoxFi- occasionally, when you turn the hot spot on, it won't show on the device you want to send wifi to. Turn the hot spot off and back on again, and normally, you're good to go. It's not a perfect app... but it is free, does not require root, and won't effect your bill.
Roommate downloaded the update twice this morning and got the message "update cannot be validated"...... Any ideas what's up? He isn't into rooting or anything, stock phone and only a few months old, let me know if you have y ideas

Intrepid, in your case, have you disabled any system apps? Re-enable them and try again.

No apps have been disabled. Its pretty much stock.

Try a factory reset first....That will make sure you're bone stock.
Thanks. Ill give that a shot in a few minutes.

Accepted the update this morning... went smoothly. Took forever to download though, think the servers were slammed with everybody doing the same thing. I am bone stock, for now.

Having same issue. Stock nothing removed or froze. Was rooted with voodoo. Temp unroot didnt work. uninstalled all root apps unrooted with voodoo. Did factory reset downloaded again . Gets about half way through install.....Triangle and android on screen. Then it reboots and says update failed. Any ideas how to fix this?

same issue here, trying hard reboot!
will keep you posted
Just curious. If you are having this problem, did you perform your download over 4G or WiFi? I have no clue about what is causing this problem, but if you were on 4G perhaps you can try downloading again using WiFi (or visa-versa)? Yes, I know this shouldn't matter. But it is something to try.
I was downloading through wifi.

I just did a factory reset including internal media and the SD card, downloaded the update and tried to install but got the triangle and android on the screen about halfway through. Any thoughts?
Did a hard reset, wiped user data and that seemed to do it
If you are rooted, uninstall bootstrap or safestrap if you have those. For me safestrap was breaking the update. Thxkbai!
Just did another hard reset with no luck getting through the update. Willing to entertain any suggestions...
How far do you get?

This may seem like an odd suggestion, but if you keep failing to install the OTA pushed to your phone, try flashing the file from the root of your SD card.
About a quarter of the way through. It showed a triangle with the android on the screen when it stopped.
Hi Community,
I was wondering if anyone has got Good Mobile enterprise email app to work successfully on a rooted device? I tried renaming Superuser but no go, when it tried configuring the device it says it will not run on a rooted phone... If someone has got it working please share.

Huh??
Are you asking if there is a good alternative email that works with Exchange?
If so, try Enhanced Email, works perfectly for the year + I have had it, also allows bypass of the PIN code.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
No not exchange, there is an app in the market called "Good" for connecting to an enterprise exchange server. Larger companies have started using this to replace Blackberry devices. They make an app for aOS & iOS.

You can hide the fact that your rooted threw different apps available on the play store. Try a few to see if they will help.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\=LTE
I never had an issue with Good and my rooted OG Evo but I don't use it on my LTE Evo.
I am currently running Good for Enterprise on my rooted LTE with no problems. Ran it on stock rooted, Meanrom, and now Tranquility without any problems. Never gave me an error or message about being rooted. I also ran it on my Evo 3d and Evo 0G.
I think it may only check for a rooted device if your company enables the check...The company I work for says on the policy doc that you are not allowed to access the company email with Good if you are rooted and it checks during authentication. I will try those apps on the play store that hide the root status and report back if they work. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Laie! I found "Hide my root" and it hides the root binaries and temp removes superuser so I think that will work, the app has over 10k DLs and many 5 star ratings...I'm too excited been wanting to root this bad boy since I got it but couldn't because of this issue. I appreciate the idea don't know why I didn't think about that...there is an app for almost every thing these days!

Hi, so did Hide my root work? Don't want to root my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and start fresh then realize I can't access Good. I had it rooted a while back and my company definitely has that check enabled
I'd also like to know if OTA Rootkeeper or Hide My Root work for this. I have MobileIron coming down the pipe and would like a way to keep my custom ROM and remove root.

After talking with verizon they said my RAZR was rooted. The tech even asked me if i had a app called! Superuser"
The tech said he could tell my phone was rooted
You would think a company would need some sort of warrant to scan a personal device
Anyone know what we can do to protect our privacy???
Plz no lame response.. like dont root ur phone

Yes, they can see this background information by qe logs.
Check you razr for a qe file and open it with a txt editor.
Im not sure this is legal in your country, but here it isn't.
Im a lawyer and can tell u the should ask clearly your permission to see these background information.
Cheers

There is a background app called Verizon remote diagnostics. I Keep it disabled with titanium but I would suspect that is what they use to check the md5sum of your system files.

So if i root my phone and unroot it before i give it for service, would the tech guy from Moto be able to tell i was rooted and lose my warranty?
I got the GSM xt910.
Erm... I don't think disabling it will help much... After all, the fact that you were able to disable it (like the word game ) clearly shows you're rooted...
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk 2
If I was going to turn in my phone for warranty I would use The RAZR utility to flash the ota first that would fix the system md5sum. I don't know about the XT910.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Yes. qe logs will show all the system modifications/installations you did.
The only way to get ride of it is by replacing a qe log from a fresh Razr soon as it comes out of the store. Kinda 'impossible' to find it right?
by enabling adb anyone with a never rooted/modified system can do an adb pull and grab those files. Or listen to it's contents to alter an already modified system.
But man, how many times did you heard Motorola deny a repair or replacement for this? Flash a stock rom would be my way to send it to services.
Cheers
I have Verizon Remote Diagnostics frozen myself.
Last time I called VZW, a prompt asked me if I authorized Verizon them to Remotely Diagnose my phone for problems. I did not accept.
OP, did you get that message?
After many replacement devices, Verizon is sending me a different device for this current one (Droid DNA) The only problem is that I've rooted this one after installing the JB leak. I'm not concerned about having the leak on my phone because I can just say I got it on Christmas through OTA, but I do need to unroot. How does one go about doing that? I have Safestrap installed btw.

Go into your super user app, there should be a option to do a full unroot.
