I've been wanting to get a couple, but other than having one on my nightstand for setting the alarm, I'm not sure where I would use it.
You could probably take apart your key fob and put one in there.

Love NFC. Using it with NFC Task Laucher app. Have one tag in my car to turn on GPS and increase volume via Tasker app. Another on my Stand next to my bed to put my phone into "sleep mode"...turns down the volume and disables data/syncing to save battery while I'm sleeping. I bought my tags from tagstand.com. They cost me about $1 a tag.
Just got some of the round disk kind. I thought the sticky ones were pretty flimsy. These are like cardboard disks. Figured they would stand up to time and reuse. Don't know what much to do with them yet. I did one to toggle wifi, bluetooth, and gps in the car.
I really like the key chain type in your picture.

You don't. It comes from the national weather service only when there is some type of weather related emergency in your area. It's all in the name of safety.

Happened to me tonight for flash flooding and a severe thunderstorm. Mine and my wife's phone got them and we were together. Made for quite the racket. lol
Still, as I said earlier it's important info so I keep it on.

Heh. I think I got 8 or 9 alerts yesterday for flash flooding and thunderstorms but I've not seen a drop of rain in the past 48 hours. Anyways, I turned off severe alerts but left extreme and amber alerts on. Plus, I was wondering why I couldn't turn off "Presidential Alerts" and here's why:

You can delete the sounds from /system/media/somefolder
I forget the folder name (might be mms) but there are a few audio files you can delete if you want the alerts but want them silent.

You are correct. They are in the mms folder and called: atis_tia_cmas_alert.mp3 and kddi_earthquake_alert.mp3.
you can also lower your "media volume"

Everyone is right, this is a new type of alert that the FCC is starting to use across the nation. It is supposed to alert you of anything that may harm a population.
To turn it off, go to your stock messaging app. Go into settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click "Emergency Alerts" and uncheck any that you don't want. The only alert you cannot opt of is the Presidential Alert. Also, you do NOT get charged for anything.
Also, does anyone know if you will still get this alert if you do not use the stock messaging app? I'm using goSMS.
I have gotten the alert twice in the last week, once while driving in a severe thunderstorm in Connecticut and the second time today during a severe thunderstorm in New Jersey.
Both times the alert was for a Flash Flood Warning. Are these the only ones currently going out? I actually wouldn't mind alerts for Severe Thunderstorms, but I have not seen any.
Also, you will still get the messages in GoSMS. They show up as coming from "#CMAS#Severe".
Thank you!
The FCC has said about the alerts is that you will get an alert for:
1. Alerts issued by the President
2. Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
3. Amber Alerts
I think severe thunderstorm warnings would at least be covered - I'm not sure about watches though. From what the FCC said, it makes it seem that they warnings would at least be covered, since severe thunderstorms can definitely pose "imminent threats to safety or life."
Alright, I will start. I forgot my plug at home so I used this.

why would you bother turning it on and off all the time?
there are a lot of programs that might need your location to work properly, plus its a PITA to constantly turn it on and off..
there are plenty of market widgets that allow you to turn that off and other things, plus, some roms have that ability in their pull down menus

"murder"?
don't think so...
besides, why did you buy a full featured, smart phone, if you aren't going to utilize all that it offers?
as others have said, I still get a full day on my battery, and have tons of stuff running all the time.
Your GPS is only actually on when an app requests it. When its on there's an icon to show you its on and searching or on and fixed.
I use tasker to automatically enable the GPS whenever I launch an app that would use it and then disable GPS when the app is closed.

My proximity sensor is busted. I've tried all the different things like odining and getting compressed air and blowing it in the ear piece (which actually worked for like a day). So when I place a call the screen goes black and it won't let me turn the phone on at all. I know if the proximity sensor driver is just disabled I'd be able to turn the screen on and off by the power button while in a call. at any rate I was wondering if anyone knows what the driver is called for this phone. I would like to just disable the driver so I can get my phone functionality back. If anyone has any other ideas too that'd be more than welcomed. Thanks!

Go into Phone > call settings, then UNcheck "turn off screen during calls." That should allow you to use your power button while on a call.

Hey thanks so much for the response!! I should have specified i'm not a huge fan of touchwiz roms and that setting isn't in aosp for some reason :/ right now i'm on a touchwiz rom just because it's given me that option but i would love to be on the 4.4 aosp roms which i've tried and loved.
I haven't ran AOSP for awhile so I'm not familiar with the call settings, but there has to be a similar setting to disable it in there somewhere. This actually just started happening to me, I think my proximity sensor crapped out as well Look around, or ask in the ROM thread that you're using.

Fix!!! well sort of
ok so i found a workaround not really a fix but i guess it's gonna have to be good enough for me. I found an app called intelliscreen which gives you the option to set screen on/off rules for different apps. I set screen always on for the dialer and phone apps in 4.4 kk rom and now basically the screen still turns off during a phone call but i am able to turn it back on during the phone call with the power button or home button. pretty awesome because i really didn't feel like being on a tw rom forever lol.
Glad to here it

Doesn't that break auto rotation?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
The method of disabling the sensor in the .so folder seem to break auto rotate. For me however its kinda worth it. Anything I usually want rotated is always rotated on its own anyhow and not being able to use my phone as a phone is kinda the worst lol.
Some users in the CM 11 thread have had success using a Q-Tip with a little alcohol on it to clean a black haze on the sensor. This, however, requires you to take the phone apart, which is actually a lot easier than it would seem.
