Patch to clear the WiFi icon coming - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Verizon tech support dude has stated to me that there will be an update in December that will remove the WiFi icon from the corner of the screen. Thought I'd share that with everyone.

Awesome! Hopefully we'll all have S-OFF before then and it won't matter.

Joy!!

Boston area 4g outage

Okay, starting this morning my 4g will connect (says ip address and connected to sprint) yet will not pull down any data. That includes no webpages or if I try speedtest it hangs at testing ping. Zero data. I'm currently using warm rom with stock kernel for the past few weeks. Definitely not a 4g service issue as someone with an Evo 4g was able to pull data with no problem standing next to me today. Tried wiping all and flashing the latest warm rom to no avail. Any ideas? Anything else I should try?
Thank you for any help you can offer!
I have no data also. Never rooted and with the original stock firmware (so if I want to root) and the most recent PRL. I am in Boston if that matters. 3g works just fine.

Thank you that makes me feel a little better as I am in the Boston area as well. Really strange though that someone with an original evo was able to down 4g data today. I might give sprint a call to check on any outages.
Talking to sprint now and they say NO network outages in Boston area. Strange.
I had this issue in the morning a day or two ago but it went away after an hour or so. Problem returned this morning and have had to use 3G since then because Wimax isn't working.
I'm on the latest Warm nightly and too am in Boston. Sounds like it's specific to Boston.

Let us know what they tell you at the store. Hard to believe that this many of us are experiencing the exact same issue and its not on sprints end. Lol I forget how slow 3g can be as most of my travels are normally covered with 4g. Hope its back online soon. Anyone else in the Boston area that wants to chime in?

Just got back and what they told me is they disconnected wimax and it could be this way for a few weeks! They are gonna be testing LTE and just keep it on 3G. Thanks for the heads up sprint!
WTF?! That's BS.
If it's not back by the end of the weekend, I'm writing a letter.
4g Still broken in Boston area. Many reports....when a phone is mentioned it is the Evo 3d. Was there an over the air update yesterday?
An OTA should not affect it since I haven't upgraded since the first one. Also, people that I know who have the Evo 4G can use data just fine.
Dose everyone with the issue have the evo 3d or is it whit all phone, because sure seems like the ones with the issue are evo 3d users
as well as everyone should! this is BS!! i am more mad that i called CS 3x and they kept telling me there's no outtages in my area! how could they not know about something as major as this????? I had to go outta my way to a local store for them to tell me this crap??? my cousin called to complain and they hung up on him! called back to speak to a manager and they just kept him on hold! kinda missing T-Mo right now!!!!

Wow, glad I found this thread! I got the same problem on Nexus S 4G located near Norwood. In my case, I just got a replacement phone yesterday. 4G was fine yesterday but today, nothing. I was starting to think I got a defective phone. The worst part is that with 4G enabled, I got a signal so it doesn't even try to fall back to 3G. I just checked Settings > About phone > Status > Mobile network state says Disconnected when 4G is turned on.
I can only get 4G service while at work so if they've disabled it, I'm gonna be mad!

can't speak for everyone else but i don't mind at all. Just don't like the fact that Sprint has no idea whats going on and sending people to local stores to me is BS! they should be more informed of something this major going on and not making everyone think there phones are junk! all they have to do is inform their customers of the testing and to put their phone on 3G! i had no idea of that and had no data till i went to the local store today and they told me to put it on 3G.

[Q] [UPDATE] My LTE works great, is it launched nationally?

nothing officially yet....likely still testing in your location...dont be surprised if you can't connect to LTE in those same locations in near future as they go back to blocking them....
unless they stop that practice and start allowing devices to connect to the already tested locations...
Update guys: After leaving an area around a corporate store, the LTE disabled. I guess it was just enabled around a certain area, as I don't get it by my house! :'(
Hope they enable it soon

Thanks, I was just curious on the speeds. Doesn't look all that fast especially with no one on the network. I actually miss wimax a LITTLE bit. It was just nice to have as an option if I wanted it. Gonna tough it out till LTE is up. I wish Nextel would just shut off, instead have to wait another year plus will have to buy new hardware for 800Mhz band.
Really you will have to buy new hardware in a year?
I wish I knew that!! I thought this EVO was future-proof
*falls over face-forward*
Its not a bad thing really. 800mhz LTE wasnt approved yet so they couldnt build it into the EVO LTE. If Lightsquared was approve we would all be sitting on some pretty fast LTE speeds rite now.
Is there an LTE "Air Rave" ? maybe the store was using that, causing my LTE limited radius Also it might explain why it's so slow compared to the speeds reported in live Dallas LTE
Also do you think sprint will let me upgrade sooner if the 800mhz LTE launches within two years? I bought this phone to be future proof with Sprint's "latest" network, only to read in this thread that the current-gen LTE will be replaced by an even newer/faster/better/stronger 800mhz LTE in a couple years.
Dont worry. It won't be replaced. They're just adding a band and future phones will have connectivity to 1900 & 800 bands. AFAIK

sprint to launch lte services soon

So I was ready an article that was released this morning http://blog.chron.com/techblog/2012/06/sprints-lte-network-launching-very-soon-in-houston/ and was curious... does this mean that our custom ROMS will not be LTE compatible for some time after this upgrade occurs.
"Sprint is already selling LTE-capable devices, such as the HTC EVO 4G LTE, but they can’t yet access the LTE network, even though it’s already active. Before that can happen, Sprint will push out a small upgrade to owners of those devices that will allow it to use the LTE network."
If that's so, it'll be up here for download on the same day, I'm sure.
It will still work with custom roms. I was on charmeleon Rom and LTE was working for me
Sent from my EVO LITE using XDA-Premium
Yeah, worst case someone will probably get a stock rooted version of it up the same day and the devs around here will integrate that code into their roms pretty quickly, at least a lot of the devs here seem to be really good about updates so far.
I'm sure the only thing that will update will be the PRL and maybe profile. I doubt there would be any software updates.

Good to know... it would be a shame to have to wait any longer than we already have. At least the 3G speeds seem to be reasonable in the mean time.
What's the news on lte in Memphis? I know we are second round... But I think.I seen somewhere on s4gru that the process is happening fast in Memphis. That was like almost two weeks ago... Can anyone post some updated news on this please?
The LTEVO says hello!
the current software connects to LTE as it is. sprint has most of the LTE sites blocked.
I know the galaxy nexus shipped with LTE disabled in software but I've seen enough evo users showing LTE speed tests to know it's already enabled on the evo.

This tool doesn't know what he's talking about.
Sprint just needs to change the tower ID and your phone will see it. Right now they have most all LTE towers with a testing flag so your phone doesn't see it.
A few have been slipping through the cracks without a testing flag which is why you see random speed test reports showing up.

There's more to it than that. True, our phone can pick up lte once they remove the flag, but there are still issues with it. The phones still hadn't passed sprint testing when they were released, but since all of the issues were related to lte, they decided to release it anyway, and push out an ota once lte goes live.
I honestly do not think it will be a ota as it will be more of a profile n prl update. A ota would require a lot of time for HTC and sprint to get one around. As the other guy said the dudes a tool.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
he may be a tool, but an ota isn't as far fetched as you might things based on the internal testing docs.
It seems to be that Sprint has decided to proceed with distributing the EVO LTE before the LTE connectivity issues are solved. They probably will be correcting the issue via an OTA (Over-the-Air) Update. Notice that the EVO LTE timeline is marked in yellow, meaning "Risk with Mitigation." Could the mitigation employed be a future OTA?
If this is the case, this seems to be a smarter solution than to delay the shipment of the EVO LTE. After all, if the only issue with the device is maintaining a connection to LTE signals. And if that can be corrected with a software update, why not push them out now? 99% of their customers are not located within coverage of On-Air LTE sites at the moment. And Sprint is blocking access to LTE now at any rate, as we have reported. In fact, it may be the very reason why Sprint is blocking access to the LTE network.
I asked all of this speculation with the source, and he said he only knows what he sees in reports (which is all we know, too). And the last report he has seen says the LTE connectivity issue will be resolved with a software fix. But he is unsure how and when it will be implemented. But he is skeptical that the fix is already in the devices scheduled to be shipped next week based how he just learned that a fix was discovered the end of last week.

BUT lets not twist words around like the guy was in the sketch blog....Req an OTA to be able to connect to LTE when it goes live and free is far from the truth or something that you can say is fact like he insinuated there...The fact that phones have already proven to be able to connect to LTE towers before they get blocked shows that this is not the case for certain...
Now will there be an OTA to address LTE issues? quite possibly so. BUT that doesn't mean that there will have to be an OTA to use LTE when it goes officially live either.....which is what that guy is spreading there...

I suppose so - I don't know for sure that Sprint will be pushing out an ota like the article stated. I just think its very plausible, based on those testing docs. They've been working on the documented lte connectivity issues, and had a fix for them since what, early may? There haven't been any ota's yet, so that fix hasn't been rolled out yet. I don't know how that fix will get to our phones other than an ota update.
I just don't think it will be as simple as removing the testing flag from the towers. Had they not posted the lab reports, I might think otherwise, but I think we'll all be getting an ota in the near future.

Lots of people have been able to connect, even with stock (as I understand it) - but that doesn't necessarily mean that all of the issues have been resolved. Who knows whats going on behind the scenes. And yes, I'm jealous. I'm the second round though - I should be getting lte in the next 6-8 months (hopefully).

Dur, you're right. I was focusing on the word use instead of access, and then got cought up in the thread.
This may be totally off the wall, but could the OTA have anything to do with the embedded SIM in our device that is require to access LTE?

Slow Mobile Data

Hey all,
A few weeks ago, I switched from MeanBean to Jelly-Bam ROM. At the time, I thought this was a Jelly-Bam issue, but I'm pretty sure it's not now. When I switched ROMs, I noticed that my data was slow. I work in Baltimore County, MD and lost my 4G signal. I have occasionally seen 4G at home since I noticed this issue, but it's rare. I typically only get 3G and often it's less than 1MB/s. I tried switching back to MeanBean and that didn't help (I had updated the radio before switching back, I would think that would only help). I have updated my radio (currently running 1.12.11.1210) and that hasn't helped. What made me think it's not the ROM is that my wife has a stock Evo 4G LTE and she also has slow data speeds. BUT, my brother has an S3, also on Sprint and in the same town and he's getting 4G fine. I do have my have my Network Mode set to LTE/CDMA (actually on Jelly-Bam it's LTE/CMDA/EvDo). I'm running Jelly Bam 7.8.0 (CyanogenMod version 10.1.0-RC2-jewel). Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions as to what could be the problem with my phone. If I can provide more information, let me know and I'll get it for you.
Thanks so much in advance.
Baltimore and supporting areas are still going thru LTE upgrades, it's still on-off for some areas. Annapolis is lit 100% as far as I can tell.

Is your evidence of the S3 pulling in 4G while your device does not anecdotal or have you performed a side-by-side comparison? The answer to this will help us narrow down your problem.

Unless things have gone backwards, I don't think that is the case. I used go get 4G in Baltimore. I've seen as high as 25MB/sec, maybe even higher. Now I don't see 4G ever down here. (I've seen it a few times at my home in York County, PA since this issue, but it doesn't last long and the fastest I've seen is maybe 5MB/sec. But most times its 3G and less than 1MB/sec.)

My evidence is based on my seeing absolutely no 4G at the time (I've seen a few few times briefly as noted in the post above.), while my brother who is less than 1 mile away see's great 4G (faster than his home wifi so over 15 MB/s). I have consistently had terrible speeds around town while he consistently has good speeds. No, we have not stood side by side and done a test, but I know how my signals used to be and how they should be and I'm nowhere near that.
I was actually near the Key Bridge last night and where I usually get LTE or at least have in the past, I got solid 3G, I tried airplane method and reboot, switching from CDMA back to LTE to no avail. Soon as I got back into Pasadena the LTE was solid. I never was sure about the differences between the Samsund devices vs. HTC but for me, the signal is sporadic which in the past has been due to Sprint upgrades. Hope it gets better and check out the SG4RU site for specific information about your area. Thru have a ton of info that will let you aware of the work and or upgrades in your specific area in Baltimore.

It just doesn't make sense to me that Sprint reception would decrease by so much and (as far as I can tell) completely lose 4G coverage at my work and mostly lose it at my home at the same time, while my brother continues to receive great service on his S3. I just don't see how that could happen.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Any ideas what could be wrong with my phone? Anything else I can update? Any settings for me to check that I might have missed? (I feel like I've check them all, but I'm up for anything at this point.)
Thanks in advance. This is driving me nuts.

I'd like to throw my own recent experience in here.
My wife has the OG Evo. I have the Evo LTE. While I do not get LTE in this area, I still get 3G coverage. The other day, out of the blue, my wife's 3G quit working and she has next to no service while I have solid coverage, and yes this is side by side.
Call me crazy right now because if what I am about to say, but I have this inkling of a feeling that Sprint is directly behind her almost completely losing signal in an area where 3 towers surround us to attempt to get one of us to call in, complain, and get coerced into an upgrade (she's due for one as of June 1st, go figure right?
I've noticed this happen whenever I was due for upgrades on my older phones too such as the Hero, Moment, etc... if I could pinpoint what they're doing, if they're doing anything, they'd be in some majorly serious ish.
So, I called Sprint and they walked me through #72786# update on my wife's phone. Apparently both of our phones were "off the network". We went through it for my wife's phone and it put it back on the network, whatever that means, but it didn't improve her service. They're now telling me our options are to take it to the nearest Sprint store with a repair center (the closest 2 are about an hour away each) or pay the shipping to return it to HTC.
They told me I could do the #72786# update on my phone and that it would not get rid of my root. Does anyone know this to be true? I'd like to try it on mine since they say it also is not "on the network". Because it does a firmware update, I wanted to check to see if that would interfere with the root access on my phone or my ability to gain root again, should I ever get rid of root.
Which brings me to my next question, if the above is safe for my rooted phone, I try it, and it does not work. How do I go about returning my phone to it's stock configuration? I've read a little about RUU, but haven't been able to figure out enough of it or where to get the RUU to feel comfortable doing it yet. If I do an RUU, will I be able to get my root (and s-off) rights back on my phone? How about if they try to bring my phone completely up-to-date? Is there a way to root currently up-to-date phones?
I know I've packed a lot of info and questions in there, but I would really appreciate any help and answers that people can give me. Thanks so much!!

Yeah there is quite a bit more to it. Is she rooted? Because that will help save her data if a hard reset (##786#) is in order...

No, she is not rooted. So for now, I figured I'd start with trying this on my phone. Unfortunately, the MSL reader app wasn't able to read it. I'm actually in an old version of my phone. I'm going to install my last backup and work from that since I'm somewhat hopeful this will fix my problem. I might as well do it from my latest ROM. I'll have that up in 10 minutes or less and I guess I'll try to work through your instructions...
If it works on my phone, I guess I'll go through it with my wife's then. I have everything important backed up on mine. I'll have to check hers real quick to make sure she doesn't have any recent pictures, but I think those should be on Dropbox. I assume it will tell me before I might have to do that so I'll know to double-check everything if it comes to that.
Sorry if I've asked any questions that are explained in the instructions...I just wanted to reply and now I'll continue reading through them.
Hard reset on your phone will wipe everything in data/app as well as your internal sd. Your external will be fine as well as your wife's external however she will lose all apps, sms, mms, call logs, bookmarks via stock app, as well as any system settings.

Note: All these fixes must be preformed on a stock or stock based rom with epst support and make sure you are in a known good signal area

So I should not be running these from my Jelly-Bam ROM? Or is that OK? If not, should I run an RUU will holding down volume while powering on and doing a factory reset work?
Thanks so much for your help!

As long as you have epst support you are fine. Just try one of the codes... If it works your golden.

I guess if it tries to dial and says "The feature code you have entered is invalid" or something like that, I'm not golden...

Yeah, I didn't dial. But when I hit the last #, what I entered before goes away and nothing happens.
Will these changes stick through a new ROM update? I guess I'll try them on the last stock save I have and then try to restore my MeanBean ROM (the last ROM I had that worked with 4G...Jelly-BAM seems to be what broke it.).

Yes these will stick through Rom updates. I know epst works on meanbean, viper, operation jellybean, and the sense 5 port from my personal experience.

Verizon LG G3 switching to 3G

Noticed for the last couple of days that the phone will switch to 3G when I know there is an LTE connection. Switching it into Airplane Mode and back kicks in LTE again. This happens frequently. I know there aren't many Verizon G3 users yet but I'm curious if anyone else is having this problem.
Could you post a picture of your back cover? I know people are wondering if it has Qi charging or not.

In regards to the 3G issue, you can try updating the PRL and see if that fixes the problem. I have similar issues with other devices. It deals with the SNR on the device. Most of the time the LTE signal is far lower than the 3G so it will switch.

What is that white looking thing under the two NFC contacts? is that metal or just something on the case?
Basically, does QI work out of the box?

I have two QI Nokia Chargers are home and it won't charge on either. No idea what the white thing is.
So 4G LTE is not good on this device Alla note 3

re
the two contacts on the back are for nfc.. if it had four it would support qi wireless charging.

Let's stay positive here lol..
This has been discussed with other phones. When the phone is performing actual phone operations (calls, texts, and other such communications), it is using 3G. Some manufacturers actually make it indicate this is happening with the switch back and forth. I've seen phones updated so it no longer does this because people assume it's a problem with the phone's reception.

Are you using VZW or AT&T? (your user info states AT&T). Most AT&T areas other than major cities and suburbs is not a 4g LTE connection, its HSPA, so your spectrum for your area may not be as strong. Secondly going to your local brick and mortar store and getting a new SIM is always a good starting point and one of the easiest possible fixes.
I'm using Verizon. My profile hasn't been updated.

Oh Boy
I have noticed this happening very often Im in the same office where I used all my LTE Verizon phones in the same office and never had this problem of signal switching to 3G. Not good.
Update: I've noticed that if I switch from Global to CDMA LTE the 4G lte signal stays.. I'll keep my fingers crossed and update.

I did that also, ended up doing it again. I returned my LG G3 and return to the HTC One M8. I'll miss the G3 camera but the lag really bothered me.

What do you mean by lag?

Status bar drop down lag, swiping lag, recents lag. I don't mean data connection, LTE speed, just talking about how slow the UI feels.
I'm too impatient to wait for the bootloader unlock. Once it gets unlocked I might come back, but i'm used to the lag free HTC One m8.

There must be an issue with a certain batch or something, I really have zero lag.
I have this issue as well, phone just randomly drops to 3g when I pull it out of my pocket. S5 right beside it, stays on 4g

This is happening to me too and is incredibly frustrating. I only got the G3 because my Moto X was destroyed by a roller coaster, but in areas where my Moto X easily kept 4G my G3 keeps dropping down to 3G, forcing me to fix it by activating airplane mode. I'm wondering if I should return it for a new one, or if this is a software issue that is affecting all phones. I have 13 days left to decide, but if this is affecting a wide range of users I may pick a different phone.
