[Q] Samsung Galacy Ace 2 won't start after Firmware Upgrade - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA-Developers,
yesterday I flashed my Galaxy Ace 2 with the JellyCreamMessi10 Rom.
The update worked fine, but not so the Rom. It looked quite well, but didn't detect my SIM Card.
So I wanted to downgrade my phone again to the original firmware with Odin, which also worked well until the phone said "Now rebooting...".
Nothing happened, the phone did not reboot, so that I powered it off and tried to power it back on.
Unfortunately, the Ace 2 does not react on any button, display stays completely black.
:crying:
Tried several things like connecting the phone to USB and inserting the battery, afterwards, but nothing happens.
For me it looks like my phone is broken, but perhaps you can give any advice how I can get it back to live?
I would appreciate each single hint...
Thanks folks!
Regards,
TobaYn3

Did you accidentally have PIT checked in addition to PDA when you went to flash the stock firmware? From what I can tell buttons not at all responding and completely black screen could indicate your phone is hard bricked, in which case you would have to use JTAG to unbrick your phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

First of all thanks for all your replies.
I don't think that PIT was checked, but the other thing sounds like exactly the state, my phone is currently in.
Can you please shortly explain what exactly JTAG is? I can only find links for the XBox at Google.
Can I buy it somewhere?

Most likely you lost your bootloader, when its was being flashed ( due to power loss) or whilst initializing...best thing to do is take it for replacement IF still under warranty. rather than trying JTAG. Samsung will not be able to detect your tempering
Look in My Android Solutions for similar problem ( scroll down)

I'm sad to say that you most probably lost your bootloader... No way other than the assistance(you WILL have to lie) or the jtag.
#include <studio.h>

printf("Im awesome" );
}
return 0;

[Q] Completely Dead :( !! Wont power-on!

I tried to root my phone using universal-androot and it was successful. After that i flashed clockworkmod recovery. And i thought of making a back-up of my current stock-ROM and there it was... my phone suddenly got blacked-out. Now i cant even turn-on my phone. I tried all the different possibilities like holding 'vol down+home+power', 'vol up+vol down+power', dint work .!! help me please
I was told that you can't backup stock roms using clockworkmod.
Can you turn the phone on in any mode? normal/download/anything else?
Nop !! can't do anything. Tried all the patterns.
did the phone do anything before it turned off? or did it just go blank?
Also, can you remember what clockworkmod was saying before it went blank? e.g. what processes it was undergoing?
I think the problem is with clockworkmod recovery. Coz while trying to flash the recovery, I was asked to select the phone model, but 'samsung galaxy 5' was not in the list, So i selected 'Huawei model' or something in order complete the installation! but still the installation was successful. And when i clicked 'Backup my current ROM' the phone suddenly got switched-off.
Were you trying to install the recovery from rom manager?
You need to install it via odin for the Galaxy 5.
Your phone probably needs a time+materials trip to the service centre.
Yeah, flashing that can't have done your phone any good Rom manager doesnt (yet) support our phone
have you tried firmware download mode?
remove your battery, put it back on
now press volume down, central select button and power.
keep holding till a yellow sign appears with android and a broom
now go to odin and flash CWM recovery or other rom.

It appears to me he did.
I had the same problem.
I removed the battery for 30 minutes, and removed the SIM. SIM removal was necessary.
Remove the SD Card too; it might help.

[Q] Possibly not bricked?

Hi, I've gone through all search engines and am slightly confused whats going on.
I was trying to flash my sg2 today and it was at analyzing part of in my odin and was stuck at do not turn off warning, after waiting for 5 minutes, nothing happened. Googled it up. various places (including this) suggested removing the battery and restart. However I pressed the power button first to power it down.... removed battery, poped everything back in. no response on phone, tried hard reset combo, nothing, removed battery couple of times, just no response. I take the phone is bricked?
However what really makes me doupt is, I plugged phone into charger. phone was hot at that point. So I left it for another half hour, came back. It was still quite hot - i mean the cpu must be working to generate that kind of heat. So I am just wondering, is it still def bricked or since cpu is working there could be a way to it?
P.s. I know its carrier specific, but if I have insurance, will self flashing/upgrading ur phone without official release void the warranty?
small update, I removed battery for 15 minutes, to let it cool down, touched it, it was all cool, put the battery back in - and 5 mins later, the cpu area is all hot.....yet no buttons are working... at least the hard reset is not responding....

REFLASH. usual fix .
Recovery Mode
Download mode ???

Flashing stock Samsung rom may void sellers warranty but Not Samsung warranty .
Custom roms or rooting voids all warranty .
Flashing wrong rom may void warranty .
I would presume any flashing voids any insurance .

I should also clarify, it all went fubar after following these instructions for DarkyRom:
Unzip the BASE ROM into one folder. It should have a file PDA. Open ODIN now (I use 1.7), in the PIT file option, select the pit 512 file. This should automatically tick the repartition option in ODIN 1.7 (if not, make sure it's ticked). Select the PDA file in the PDA Box. Connect your phone to the PC, make sure it's connected. Click start, wait for it to finish. Close ODIN, let your phone Reboot.

you may need to try using the usb jig which typically forces it into download mode again. search "Samsung USB Jig" on ebay

Dude you messed up, that ROM is not for the SGS2 and neither are the instructions, You need a Samsung service center or a de-bricking service
what?
Damn I cant post links, well I got to it via samsware 2.3.5 leak announcement, there was a link to darkys custom rom, from there there was at top Beta noob guide, I clicked english version, I landed on the page that was called: Beginners/noob friendly guide to flash any BETA release and from there I ended up on the ...Final v10.2 - Official DarkyROM - Gingerbread (JVQ 2.3.4) - Noob-Friendly...
sigh, i didn't see it mentioning not being for sgs2, and since I got there by starting from sgs2 article, I thought they are all linked....
I've sent it to service...
where did I go wrong....
When you go to return it, do not tell them you flashed it. Always worked for me just playing dumb.

[q] bricked s2!! Pls help!!!

Hello everyone,
I've just bricked my S2.
It won't start at all.
I've flashed I9100XXLP1_I9100OXALP1_OXA and tried to root it with cf-root-sgs2_xx_oxa_ki3-v4.1-cwm4
After the root it won't start up, it was showing SAMSUNG and the yellow triangle with a ! in it.
I've tried to re flash the XXLP1 and it won't start flashing, so I pulled the data cable.
And now it won't start.

1) You didn't read instructions... Why would you try to root a XXLP1 >> ICS << Rom with a KI3 >> Gingerbread << CF-Root ? It states in Chainfire's thread to find the matching letters and root it with the corresponding kernel... You DIDN'T bother to read.
2) Like the poster above said, try entering download mode, and flashing stock ROM again... If you can't, read >> 4)
3) You can try with a USB Jig, though i doubt it will help...
4) Seems like it's completely bricked, probably will need jtag repair, or maybe you can get lucky with warranty + samsung repair service
5) Learn to read...

yes, my bad
do you think that if I send it back from where I bought it and lie them that it didn't start at all, and that I didn't do anything they will replace it?
it is worth it to try or they will figure it out?
thanks
You could send it into your carrier/Samsung for repair & they might repair it anyway, but there's a much greater chance they'll charge you for it.
A jig is very unlikely to work, but for the sake of a few dollars is worth a try.
Do a search for JTAG repair on here/Google (here's one to get you started). This will probably be cheaper than having it repaired by Samsung/whomever does their repairs in your country.
Which option you choose is obviously up to you.
As MistahBungle said, you could try taking it to samsung and they might repair it under warranty,no questions asked...then again, they could charge you more likely than not... If that happened to me I would take the phone to samsung as i don't trust those shady guys doing jtag repairs... they fu** something up, you lose warranty, you get left without a phone...my 2 cents

[Q] My Samsung Galaxy S II is fully bricked

Yesterday I've start data wipe (going to give the phone to my wife).
Data wiped, started rebooting and I've got a black screen.
Seems the phone is fully dead. It's not turning on, not entering recovery mode (Volume Up+Home+Power), not entering download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power). When I connect charger it does not show battery charging on screen. :crying:
At Samsung Official Service Center they said me that it is motherboard fail and it is need to replace it and it costs $270. F4k them, I sure that this is a software problem, not hardware.
And when battery is in phone, the battery is heating up, so phone is on.
Can I do anything myself?
PS. All manuals here assume that one can enter download mode (Volume Down + Home + Power), but I can't enter it.
You could try using a usb Jig to get to DL mode.

If the phone is not booting at all (and it doesn't have any signs of life), then it's definitely hardware problem.

The only sign of life - is heating when connecting the battery
But how can this be a problem of hardware, if this problem arose after a reset to factory settings?
Seems that u wiped data on 4.0.4 with stock kernel .. which has the brickbug ( i mean the emmc brickbug , it corrupts the emmc , once it is corrupted, u must replace the entire motherboard ..i had the same problem last week .. sent it to samsung and was out of warranty too)
Sorry for your phone

Galaxy Tab S6 SM-T865N using Odin To flash other country firmware on it

Hello,
I've purchased a Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T865N) International version, mainly to use it with with 4G in US on Xfinity Mobile. I received the tablet, inserted the SIM card and it was working 'relatively' on the network. Every now & then I would get a message 'failed to register to network', but for the most part, mobile data is working.
Since it is a Korea version, certain things don't work. Nothing major, but I would like to make it perfect. Certain User update posts in the Galaxy store display in Korean Language, and the weather app is slightly limited, with the error 'not available outside of Korea'.
I did some searching and found other firmware available for this exact model on Sammobile. My country (US) is not supported, but I would like to try the UK firmware, if nothing else, to fix some of the language issues. I downloaded the UK firmware package and Odin (3.13 & 3.14.1). I installed the Samsung drivers. I booted the tablet into recovery by holding 'power & volume up' then connected it to the computer. Odin WILL NOT found the tablet. I rebooted into the normal OS and connected it and Odin then found it, but obviously that doesn't work. I can not get Odin to connect while in recovery.
Does anyone have suggestions on what might be happening?
And maybe all this effort isn't worth it either, hard telling whether it'll work better or worse with the UK firmware on it. Any tips?
It's been several years since I did this sort of thing, so I'm a little rusty. I thought this would be a simple procedure.
it sounds to me like you are not putting it into download / Odin mode, but I could be wrong. I haven't tried to use Odin on this tablet yet, but was actually about to do this same thing as well, as my device has an origin CSC of singapore, and hasn't had an official update in almost 2 months, so I was going to flash the UK version as well.
---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 PM ----------
So I just tested it on my tablet, here is what you need to do:
Power off the device
Press and hold the Volume up button and then press and hold the power button
When you see the initial boot screen, release the power button, but keep holding volume button
When you get to the recovery screen, you need to use the volume up / down buttons to highlight the option that has "bootloader" in the title, and press the power button to select it.
Then you should see a screen that says "Download" or something like that.
Plug in USB, and Odin should see the device.
Yeah, you're booting into recovery, you need to boot into Download mode - Hold both volume up and down whilst inserting the USB-C cable to enter Download mode.
Your correct

IF you mean did I succeed in flashing it through Odin then yes BUT unfortunately I couldn't get it to reboot correctly & it takes a lot of time trying to reboot but still no luck. How can this be even possible IF I still can get it to connect to Odin and download the firmware successfully BUT no luck in getting it to reboot correctly!!

So, I took it to a repair shop & they told me it needs new motherboard !! How can this be even possible IF I still can get it to connect to Odin and download the firmware successfully BUT no luck in getting it to reboot correctly!!

Have you tried reflashing the old firmware of your country? Weird that its not working.
I did try that and managed to flash it successfully to the old firmware using Odin but unfortunately I still couldn't get it past a full reboot as it got stuck after a long time and it takes me to the Android System Recovery screen wherein also tried to 'wipe cache partition.’ and try reboot again but I still end up with the recovery screen!

Can't you put in a warranty claim ? Here where i am based i had a new battery, and new screen installed from samsung! this was a Galaxy S8+ was well over 2 years old they did it for free! New screen and new battery! My Note 9 is going this monday for a new battery my Tab S6 works flawlessly so don't need to send that in! but i'm sure if you ring up Samsung they will replace the motherboard for free as it's not even 12 months old!
