[Q] Kied does not support upgrading... - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hy there. I need some help. I upgraded my phone month ago to 4.0.3 and it is an official rom...(I used Odin because I had the same problem) I don't really know what to do with kies but it says upgrading not supported via kies... my binary counter is on 1. But when I want to upgrade my phone in the software update option in the settings (using wifi) it says that there are no updates. I KNOW 4.0.4 IS OUT. Some informations..:
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.3
Badeband version: I9100XXLPQ
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505
[email protected] #3
Build number: IML74K.XXLPQ
It's important for me because I want to stay at official roms and I want to use kies to get OTA updates. It's easier..I think.
Please Help!

Why have you joined here if you want to stay "official ".The minimum you should be doing is at least rooting your phone.
You wont catch me using kies or official 4.0.4........lol

Thanks. I'm downloading the new rom. But in Hungary it says only 4.0.3 is available... but it's newer than mine so... i try it. I hope kies will work after this process. Should I do a factory data reset or it's not important?

No don't need to wipe data ...your just updating from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
When installing totally different releases...ex ICS to JB ... then you would wipe everything
If you had Kies & all required Samsumg / Android drivers working properly ....then it updated to Kies 2 ....then you can try uninstalling all Samsung /Android drivers on your system & then reinstall using Kies 2 engine.....that may resolve the detection issue

Check out Tsar3000.com also .....but I took a look for you ....Hungry 4.0.4 isn't available yet
...so just keep checking Tsar3000 ...they will have it soon ... ..If you don't get Kies fixed by then

[Q] Updating S2 via Kies "this device cannot be updated"

Hello all,
I have used the following guide to debrand my S2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894 (I followed it to the letter including step 8) I assumed this would debrand the phone and allow me to use Kies to update the phone as normal without having to wait for my carrier to release updates. Note: this is the only reason I performed the debranding, I had no intention of ‘rooting’ the phone.
So you can imagine my horror when I connected the phone to Kies and was presented with the message:
“This version of the device cannot be updated”
Have I done something wrong? And is this fixable/reversible? I am now starting to wish I hadn’t been so impatient and tinkered with my new toy instead of leaving it to Vodafone…
If anyone knows how an idiots guide on how to fix this I would be very grateful for your advice. Below is some information off of the phone itself and Kies.
Kies says:
Current firmware version : PDA:KDD / PHONE:KDH / CSC:KD1 (VOD)
But if I press *#272*IMEI# The phone says: Sales code XEU
Note: Kies says VOD and the phone states XEU (is this where the problem lies?)
Also in settings>about phone, the following is displayed:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKDH
Kernel Version: [email protected]#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKDD
Vod = Vodafone
XEU = UK
KDD very old firmware
CSC KD1 is VOD Vodafone CSC
Phone details all KDD
Kies never use it as i have never had an update after changing firmware and i have no intention of waiting six months for firmware .
Kies just does not like some changes made but works with others .
You can always put a Voda firmware on from provider roms thread .
or flash stock rom from stock rom thread .
jje
Thanks for your reply JJE, i thought i had flashed a stock rom? what have i flashed?
I would prefer to get the updates working over Kies if possible as if i had bought an unbranded phone. I thought that completing step 8 of the guide would change the CSC to a generic one, what is the reason for Kies seeing 'VOD'?
Thanks for sparing some of your time!

Never mind, i have solved the problem. Incase anyone else has the same issues the solution can be found below.
Update the phone by going to settings>about phone>software update then register for a samsung account. The phone then downloaded the update over the air and installed.
After this when i connect to Kies i get the message "This is the latest Firmware"
What version is the phone now after doing the update?

PDA : I9100XWKF3
PHONE : I9100XXKE7
CSC : I9100XEUKD1
Kies says:

I cant update via kies too. When i try ota update, cant connect to the server!

Another way to go is to use SpoofFw if you are rooted. It will spoof another branding and will let you update to that branding using kies. Root and busybox is needed.

When i come home, i will try it.

Kind of related to this thread... I had gotten the same message with stock firmware unrooted with KG2 firmware. Once I rooted it and flashed back the stock firmware, the message changed to "No updates currently available" instead of "This device cannot be updated". Strange.
Samsung understands when you root your phone the ROM or kernel you have put will not be recognized by them and hence the message...However, if you put in the stock firmware back then the updates by Samsung for your firmware version(if any) will be available for you.

It's actually backwards. When my device was completely stock, it said "This device cannot be updated". But now that it's rooted, it says "No updates currently available".
I tried everything and still indicate that the phone can be updated!!! this is sooo bored ... have someone idea what to do next? if next exist!

You can update to official ics even without kies . Download the official rom and flash via Odin. It would save you time

Thanks for the link but I've used CheckFusDownloader to get the firmware. But still not recognized.
English translation from the guy that cannot write according to the forum rules and must be year one at skool .
Your Product Code is under the battery .
Its worth repeating methods of updating .
One official via Kies when an update is available only .Providing your phone presents the correct hidswver codes to match a firmware on the Kies server .
Two join XDA Developers forum and download stock firmware as soon as its released .
As oft repeated mix and match may not work and its rather pointless choose your path for up grades and stick with that method .Probably more time wasted trying to go back to Kies from stock than any other .

Ok so I don't know where else to ask I need help, for some reason after I updated to the latest ICS, I can no longer tether my phone to my computer via usb, Bluetooth, or wifi as a hotspot. I have tried different computers and devices that use wifi and Bluetooth nothing works. So I thought maybe if I reverted back to the original firmware I could get it to work. That is the where I come to a new problem Kies no longer supports software upgrading to my phone after I used Odin to update to ICS.

Have you updated your phone with official ICS firmware through ODIN? Have you checked the drivers are properly installed? I updated my phone having Saudi Arabia gingerbread firmware with ICS India firmware recently..... after seeing your post I checked the USB tethering, it is working fine......below 2 drivers were installed when I started tethering:
1. Samsung Mobile USB composite device
2. Samsung Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device
Also, I had same problem with KIES not recognizing my phone, but it was resolved itself after I did a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache (you need to take backup of your data before you do this, as it will wipe all user data like contacts, messages, applications, photo, video etc).
Please check
Thank you for responding, after I posted I kept searching the internet and found a ICS update from last month for my phone, I wiped my phone and gave it an install and so far it seems to be working, this was the 2nd ICS build I found tonight. I am happy it works.

ICS is flowing down through Kies right now to my Skyrocket. The error that the device didn't support upgrading is nothing at all. Just make sure you're on stock.
Woo Hoo!!!!
Your Device's current firmware version is not supported to update FW via KIES..
Hi.. I'm using a galaxy S2 I9100..
My current FW version as shown while connecting to PC via KIES:
PDA: LPT
PHONE: LQ6
CSC: LPA(XEH)
But while checking directly on phone using the code *#1234# everything is appearing as same except the CSC.. Using this code in the phone, my phone is showing the CSC as I9100 XEU LPA.. Means my phone's CSC are not coming same on both.. So, is it the reason that my phone's current FW is not supported to update FW via kies??
If it's so.. Then, how to resolve this problem??

[Q] Stock kernel, how do i tell please

Hi Guys and Gals. I am a noob trying to update my Galaxy s2 to ICS and have hit a brick wall. I received the message that an update was available and downloaded it OTA, but the install failed for some reason. When i plug in to Kies i get the " Device doesn't support software upgrades via Kies" message.
After a little searching it seems the main reason for this might be a modified Kernel. The phone is an unbranded XSA model and i have never modified it in anyway. I have no idea if the dealer did any modifications before shipping.
What i need to know is, how do i tell if it has a stock kernel or not, and do i need to re flash the entire firmware to get it.
This is all the info on the phone.
Baseband version I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version [email protected]#2
PDA I9100XWKK2
Phone I9100XXKI4
CSC I9100XSAKE3
Build Info Friday Nov 11 18:05:58 KST 2011
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and sorry the lack of knowledge.
I believe it still is the stock kernel, also XXKI4 is a stock baseband version for Gingerbread. Looks like you didn't get updated. Best thing to do is do it on this website if you want the proper ICS experience, and not all of that Touchwiz nonsense Samsung loves.
Chris.
Unless you flash custom roms or kernels it always has Stock kernel .
Use CHECKFUS to see if their is an ICS update for your phone if not you wait or flash stock ICS roms from here .
jje
Thanks for the replies. Just wondering what the issue with Kies would be? I am a little unsure as to which ICS version to get and also, what will happen to all my data, settings etc..
Backup your data factory reset phone and trie updates again .
Fails then flash stock firmware for your location from XDA ,

Get the correct official firmware version from samfirmwares.Com.
Flash using ODIN.

What you mean "not officially"? You mean via Odin/Mobile Odin?
Re-install Kies.
No custom kernel right?

Hi friends I own Galaxy s 2 i9100....I got it from UK 3 mobile.. After coming to India I have flashed it with a ROM which is unlocked version as its is locked to 3 network...after the flashing I connected it to kies for backup and found the same message as others in this thread mentioned...so I tried reflashing it with a ROM that is compatible with Indian version and got the issue solved ...I am providing the details of the rom now I am using

But recently KIES software in my laptop got updated and when I connected my S2 it stated that my phone is not compatible to update from KIES. But, the same day when I connected wifi in my phone I got a message that an update is available and its done successfully.
Now can any body help me to get that issue sorted out when connected to KIES as it accepted before and now why it is not accepting ??
Thanks in Advance
This is all about csc codes and roms/firmwares from specific regions. csc changer from play store will fix most of the problems for you although root access is required in jelly bean. change the csc to your country and if all the planets are aligned in the third 1/4 of Aries your up and running..
However why the bloody hell you would want to use kies for anything other than backing your stuff up is completely beyond thinking about its the worst bloody piece of bloat you can install on your pc. Use odin you can flash any rom from any country you like its makes little difference as to weather your phone works in your country or not. HAPPY FLASHING.
@#1 If you really want too and jelly bean is available in your country install that via odin and that should also fix your problem.
Current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies
Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) about 2 months ago and I want to update it to gellybean. I tried to update via kies but it says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies". then how do I update my phone. Please help...! Thanks in advance.
Details about phone,
Model no: GT -I9100
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPQ-CL975203
Build no: IMM76D.XWLPU

Stock Firmware problems please help!

Ok I went to update my phone through kies and forgot that i have a different kernal than before. Kies told me i cant update through it. I assume thats cause im using a different kernal.
Here is the details from my phone.
Model - GT-I9100
Android Version - 4.0.4
Baseband Version - I9100XXLQ6
Kernal Version - 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
Build Number - IMM76D.XWLPT
I am locked on O2 UK i think.
I have noticed since flashing this kernal last july that my phone performance has been poor in terms of it switching off by itself and so on.
What I want to know is how can i get the original firmware back on my phone so i can update via kies. And I also want to know how to install Jelly Bean on this phone and how I go about it?
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Aaron.
Hey,
i have found out that the latest rom O2 UK has released is android 4.0.4
you can download the firmware from here
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/159884527/f4d3bd8/I9100XWLPD_I9100O2ULP7_O2U.zip.html
You will have to flash that with Odin, just unzip the file and put it in the pda section on Odin.
After that kies should be able to recognize your phone,
if you want to update to 4.0.4 from kies you will have to pick an earlier firmware from
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9100&pcode=O2U#firmware
same precedure as above for flashing it, i have not used kies since i bought my gs1 2 years ago but i believe it will work
Good luck friend!
Thanks for that dude, much appreciated
Is this a Jelly Bean ROM or just original stock ROM for O2??????????
no, just Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is stock Touchwiz. (Samsung Rom)
but the Jelly Bean update must be around the corner i guess.
if not you could allways flash a stock Samsung JellyBean rom that is open for europe,
the main difference may be a different modem and that there is no O2 apps prebaked into the Rom.
i think the one for nordic counties should work well since you are in the uk,
you can find it at
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9100&pcode=0#firmware
Thanks again man, you have been very very helpful.
Thanks
no problem mate, glad i could help you out,
and please let me know if it works with kies afterwards
What will the difference in modems do? Will there be any affect on what I can do with my phone?
What is the modem for? Internet connection i take it?
Kies doesn't let you update with the nordic counties rom at all. But it works sweet on my S2 so I'm happy.
