Galaxy Note - Gingerbread/ICS Update - Help! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have a Samsung Note that I tried to upgrade when the ICS update leak came out, and it changed the Baseband to I717UCLC5 (which is ICS) but the Kernel is still 2.3.6 (GB).
I've tried Odin, and it always fails, I've tried rooting, it fails, and I'm stuck on GB and want to update/root/anything.
I think I need to either flash the Baseband back to GB stock, or the Kernel up to 4.0.3? If so, does anyone have the download for the i717?
Thanks

Connect to Odin and try to flash clockwork recovery from stickied rooting thread.. If that succeeds then put your external SD into another device and download a custom ics kernel from dev section. Put the sd card back into the phone. Boot into recovery and flash the kernel zip. Your phone should now be able to start.
Right now you have a GB kernel on an ICS ROM. That's why it boot loops.

Follow this to get back to stock gingerbread and reroot. After that be sure and update cwm or flash twrp and choose any of our phones fine ROMs or the official ICS to flash in your new recovery . Ur choice after u r up and going.
And with using Odin u should see a yellow box with numbers on the left of ur PC screen. If not u need to update the drivers for the note on ur PC.

[Q] help! cant get rid of i9000 leftovers in t959

Need some help for a strange situation
I was attempting to flash my samsung t959 to froyo 2.3 and came across a site the stated I could use the files for the vibrant gt i9000 and flash via odin. Well guess what that didn’t work it booted up and worked ok but some functions were severely hampered. So I reinstalled eclair 2.1 via odin everything was fine but when it boots up the gt i9000 screen shows first than the vibrant screen followed by regular boot up.
I rooted the phone and tried installing a rom but it wont install. when in recovery mode it will just install the update.zip folder and not the rom I downloaded with the rom manager. I have a feeling there is some of the gt i9000 software still in the phone but cant figure out how to get it out.I have flashed several times using odin but still the same. If I want to get into recovery mode the 3 button way I have to use the buttons that the i9000 would use not the t959. That’s what makes me think there are remnants of the i9000 left over.Anybody got any ideas for getting the back to stock 2.1 so I can install a rom?

thanks button if i helped
Thanks for the info I am going to try that when I get back from Alaska. In you opinion what is the best most stable rom out there for a t959. When I download the rom and put it in the root of the sd card it should not be unzipped correct?

yes you dont unzip the rom. also one of the most stable roms for me on 2.2 is trigger 3.1 and for 2.3.4 simply honey
Is there a rom that uses odin to flash the t959 to 2.2.1? Any rom I have tried using the reboot recovery method does not seem to work. As far as I know I am installing correct.
Downloaded update.zip to the sd internal removed external sd
ran recovery and installed update .zip
have superuser icon so the root has been made
downloaded rom manger looks like it works connects and lets me look at the roms I can use etc.
downloaded several differant roms and tried to install all it wants to do is install the update and does not install the rom files.
The rom files are zip files and I do only leave one rom on the sd card at a time allong with the update.zip file. I dont get it.
Did you flash recovery in ROM manager and reboot into recovery. Then reinstall packages and reboot into recovery?
You can keep as many ROMs and kernels and whatever you want on either sdcard. I have both filled to the brim.
Eitherway you could use Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick in ODIN but that might be 2.2 actually so ignore that, lol

[Q] Failde to upgrade galaxy s2 to ics

hi there
i was trying to update galaxy s2 o ics 4.0.3 using odin. but wen i click start it starts and ended up saying failed. my phone in download mode says upgrade encounter an issue please go to kiess and use recovery mode.. but i cant find it anywhere. plz help me m very nervous about it.
Re-download you old stock firmware, reboot into download mode and flash with Odin but make sure you read the Odin flashing instructions correctly.

After you reflash back to your original firmware flash the correct cfroot kernel to root your device.
Then make a backup using CWM. This can be restored later if you choose to downgrade from ics.
Then find the thread that has CWM flashable ics versions and download one then flash it via CWM.
If it's no good for you can simply restore your backup via CWM and you will be back where you started.
Enjoy.

[Q] Kernel Panic with Many ROMs.

I am using SGS2 i9100 and rooted and CWM installed as follows:
1. PC Odin Flash LPB Firmware (ICS 4.0.3).
2. PC Odin Flash CF Root LPB Kernel.
3. Mobile Odin Flash Stock LPB Kernel to remove Yellow triangle.
4. Mobile Odin Flash CF Kernel again to get CWM Recovery as well as root.
So far everything is OK. I can boot to recovery and installed CheckROM v6. Perfect no problems.
Then decided to try MIUI (ICS) when it was released. After complete wipe, ROM installation completed and on reboot > Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Couldn't boot to recovery Just to Download Mode. Had to follow steps 1 to 4 again to get Phone working with root and recovery. Tried a couple of times with MIUI from different sources like miui.us or miuiandroid.com but same result. So back to CheckRom v6 which works without problem.
With recent better ICS ROMs available, tried to install Omega v1.0. Again Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Followed steps 1 to 4 again. Tried Omega 12.0 used by lot of people. Again Kernel Panic Upload Mode. Tried PC Odin Flash of Siyah Kernel. Got the Siyah screen to show on bootup but this remained a while ... ROM did not boot and then screen turned to Kernel Panic Upload Mode after waiting a couple of minutes.
After again doing steps 1 to 4 I am back on CheckROM v6 which works flawlessly.
Why can I not use any rom which tons of users are using? Is there a hardware peculiarity which is preventing this? Should I try out old or new or ICS bootloaders? I don't want to mess with bootloaders as I hear these can hard brick the device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
PS: My Complete Wipe steps are:
1. Remove user data/Factory reset.
2. Clear Cache
3. Clear Dalvik Cache.
4. Optionally Format system partition in mounts and storage.
The reason is obvious ....Why old LPB???? Stay away.....
Start again from the GB rom better 2.3.5 from odin
Root with cf root and flash any rom what you want from CWM...
No need to change bootloader again...the one you get along with the gb rom is enough further for all
OK I have KE8 (Gingerbread ROM 2.3.3 which is latest for my location) downloaded. Will a PC Odin flash of this remove my current troublesome bootloaders? Or should I download another GB Rom 2.3.5 or newer for PC Odin Flash?
PS: I used LPB assuming that an ICS Rom would give me the bootloaders which would not give me headaches from installing custom ROMs from XDA here. If someone could explain to me where my logic went wrong?
ZACQ8 you called LPB old, but wouldn't it be newer than the 2.3.5 GB ROMs?

you can flash the one which you are having now, but make sure CF-root is available for that to Root and install CWM, for your further flashing of ROMs,
yes that will replace the bootloader, but doesnt matter, it will be ok for all custom roms, (unless some Rom devs insist to replace bootloader first for their Roms)
I told the LPB is the old in the sence, it is old beta release among the ICS versions. Kernel Panic was highly reported while using this version.
Kernel panic Mode is hardly reported when people are coming from GB roms and installing Roms from CWM. that is why I sugested flash a GB rom from ODIN then move to any ROM through CWM.
You can also flash and try latest ICS version from ODIN.
Cool. That's the task for tonight then.

if you are flashing a custom ICS ROM take the LP9 version,
one custom ROM with LP8 version has gaven me once the Kernel Panic
Goodluck
Thanks that worked. Installed Omega 1.0. Downloading Omega 2.1. No kernel panics. So from now the phone shoul dbe trouble fre hopfully.
wen u get prblms instead of keeping on flashing jus stop an ask..
flash stock gb after wipe..
then root properly..
don go for any rcs, beta, alpha root release....
then its a good idea to flash stock ics ...
wen u get a clear pic,u can go for aokp, aosp which will b diff...
bottom line kno some basics instead of jumping far away......cheerz
Looks like I'm in the same situation, I had used odin to flash with I9100_CODE_I9100XXLP2_CL57619_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 back in Jan/Feb and flashed it with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LP2-v5.2-CWM5 kernel.
I was then able to flash new ROMS no problem with CWN
Then flashed the other day with the latest Ressurection Remix 2.2 and am getting the dreaded "Kernel Panic...."
So I'm back to the I9100_CODE_I9100XXLP2_CL57619_REV02_user_low_ship ROM.
My plan is to flash it with a 2.3.6 ROM using odin, then apply the CF-Root kernel and from there I'm hoping I can then apply Ressurection Remix ROM.
I'm just a bit unsure of which versions of the ROMS to use, I haven't been able to find a guide to selecting the correct versions for my phone. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Why can't I root again?

Okay so I rooted my Note once using Odin and left one rom on it for months. I recently needed to take it into the service center due to a stretched out charging port so I downloaded and flashed the stock .tar via Odin, now I'm trying to reroot it again using the same Odin method I used the first time and my phone just gets stuck on the bootscreen. I've reflashed the stock .tar and tried reflashing the root 3-4 times now and nothing is changing. Could somebody let me know what I'm doing wrong? Is there another way to get my phone rooted again? I tried just installing superuser and rom manager thinking maybe it was already rooted and they didn't work. Thanks.
You should be first flashing CWM.
Then you can flash a rooted rom.
All you need is your phone in Download Mode (not recovery mode) and Odin3 ver 1.85 on your pc, then flash the CWM tar in odin's PDA slot.
As to your current problem, if you are GB you have to flash a GB rooted kernel. But possibly your phone is ICS now, so you have to flash a rooted ICS kernel.

Alright thanks I'll try that out, I was under the impression that I needed to root before I could use CWM, as to being on ICS, I don't think so seeing as I was rooted using the same rom for the past few months and haven't updated it, I didn't even know ICS had been officially released until today lol thanks for the info I'll try it out.

i need kernel have CWM for stock rom

i flash stock rom 2.1 but i don't see rom manager on market.
so i can't flash new rom.
please give me kernel have CWM for stock rom and it flash by odin
thanks you so much
Your best bet is the development section. There's even a sticky with all available roms/kernels.
There is no stock kernel with cwm. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 and download update.zip B to get cwm on stock 2.1. Put it on the root of your internal sd card (not in a folder), it should look like sdcard/update.zip. Now boot into recovery and reinstall packages 2 times, it will not work if you only do it once. Keep this file on your phone at all times, next time you go back to stock you won't have to do it again.
