Hi everyone
Hate to ask a stupid question... but here it comes:
If I go and root my Hero and install a custom rom (2.0 or 2.1 ?)
Can I then still install the original rom when HTC releases there 2.1 version next month ?

In short yes.
Installing an official update will wipe absolutely everything on your phone.
It may be hard to root again if you do that though so it might be best to wait for a rooted version of the official rom (should be out about the same time as the official one)
So it will not disable my ability to install the original version again if I root now ??
Have never tried to root yet

You will be able to install the official rom if you have a rooted phone.
the issue might come, te root your phone after the update from HTC though....

Go to this thread. Download an official 2.2 firmware and flash it through KDZ. All the how-tos are present in the same thread.

my phone is unrooted...and basically the main reason i want to downgrade it is to run an app without rooting it.

To flash an official ROM through KDZ, you need not have root access.
And stop asking the same question over and over again.... Please....

I've bought a X10i phone, but now I have a few problems:
- When I've bought it I've checked for new updates and with that PC software (Sony PC Companion) I've made the firmware upgrade to the last one available from sony ericsson;
- After that the phone started to reboot and at the end stoped working;
- As i know the battery is not ok, I've bought a new one with more capacity (Gold 2680Mah from ECELL);
- As the phone don't start, I've made a "repair" from PC Companion and phone start working... the problem is that the reboots continue;
What should I do?
- Downgrade? How?
- Install custom rom? How?
Please give me some advise on this. I think my phone is not rooted yet (when is starting i press the BACK key and nothing happens).
Thanks in advance.
Is your X10 used or unused? You might got a defective.

It's used.
For now this phone looks to me very defective :/
The day I've bought it was working fine i think, after update and after i try to recharge it is all problems. That's why maybe it's not bad idea to downgrade or change to custom firmware.
Try to download the 2.3 version from the forum and flash it with flash tool. (Wipe everything.)

I've managed to download and install flash tool and flashed 2.1 version. I can't find 2.3 version or higher versions - links are not active.
For the moment I thought i have my problem solved and installed some nice themes on the phone (go theme) , but unfortunately i keep getting random reboots.
Any ideas? Should I make some firmware update? Should I try some other custom roms?
Please point me to the links.
Thanks

Try to root your phone, install recovery and install a custom Rom...When in recovery and before flashing the custom Rom,wipe everything(dalvik cache aswell)...I will look for the links on 2.3.3 later on and try to upload it if I still have it on my pc and if the links are down....If you can't wait for this, root your phone and install a custom firmware as stated above and see if the problem persist.

Yes, I've seen that and is already on my "favorites"... the problem is that the padlock is in grey, so i can't root with flash tool... before I install firmware 2.1 all was usable, so maybe i can do it if i update firmware.
Thanks anyway.
Ok, I think i have it root and Recovery installed
Can I use custom roms now? Or do i need to do something else?

You still have stock kernel, for now its ok.
With that kernel you need to stay with stock based custom roms, like x10s, wolfbreaks.
Cm 7 & 9 and ics roms require a different kernel
I would start by flashing Rom in cwm then use flashtool and flash a Doomkernel. But dont forget to get WiFi.zip for that kernel.
Once you have done that and all is well start reading up on your favorite Rom and go for it. I say to start with stock and DooMKernel cuz there hard to mess up

thank you Jeramie,
As I am i still have some random reboots.
I think i can't unlock bootloader because the "key" on flash tool is gray. I'll check it with that program soon.
Can you please point me some links of roms that i can try to update and stop those random reboots?

Well you can do a couple things.
You can flash stock 2.3 and unlock bootloader.
You can flash a kernel, may get rid of reboot. Rom stays the same.
You can flash a Rom.
My opinion is unlock, kernel then Rom.
Root is built-in the custom roms, so dont worry about it. you will have it.

Not unlocked yet.
Rvrosa should read through the x10 development. Read the OP 's of different Roms, including the one from brenty108. Look at screen shots. Check for known bugs. A lot of Roms do not have fully working camera.
My favorite Rom is X10S

I also use kCernel a mod of DooMKernel6

Ok, I'll do as you say.
But i need someone that upload stock 2.3 (with portuguese language) because all links that I found are not online anymore.
That kernel you're talking where can i find it? What should I look for?
This is what I have from flasher:
07/023/2012 00:23:28 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging on
07/023/2012 00:23:34 - INFO - Connected device : X10

start here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19685019&postcount=7
from this link download the first link 'global' . this is only for unlocking bootloader not the final rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28235376&postcount=2
follow the unlock section and verifiy unlock.
if you get errors take a screen shot or copy log from flashtool.
good luck
Sorry I ment to say locked bootloaders. And here is the like to the 2.3 stock from thread. Which is in my signature if your having problems.

I've a device having Honeycomb and would like to upgrade it to Jelly Bean at least.
Does anyone know where to download Android Jelly Bean from and what it takes to upgrade it?
Thanks
Anyone?
What are the Android upgrade steps?
Can you do the upgrade yourself ?

It needs a Custom Recovery & a Custom ROM(JB or Above) To Upgrade, Search In XDA or Google it, Does Your device Has These Two Means You Can Upgrade..

There is no custom recovery or a custom ROM available that I know of. The device is Vizio Co-star.
If you don't have these 2 things, does it mean you can't upgrade?
Are they are patches or can something be done if the device is rooted?
Thanks

No There Are No Other Ways, if Your Device Supports Official Updates Means You don't Need These Two..if Your Device Doesn't Support Official Updates Means You need Custom Recovery & a ROM to Upgrade From One Version to Another , & Root Helps In Flashing a Recovery, If Your Device Doesn't Have A Custom Recovery Means Root Can't Do Anything With That.. Root is Just a Assistance for Flashing a Custom Recovery ..
CM ROMs Even Have In-build Root With ROMs, So Root is Not A Big Issue Here ...
