[Q] ROM recommendation - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
What is the best/most stable ICS/JB ROM for the Atrix?
I am going to use it as my primary phone so all phone functions are a must, plus (and this is the main point) I need proper camera and camcorder (not video illusion...)
But I also really need something stable
Thanks!
P.S - I need the same for Galaxy S 1. I will be posting the same question in the forum for that phone as well

If you need a proper camera, you'll need Gingerbread.

You have to use GB as was said. A wee bit of reading in the OP's of the ICS/JB threads would have netted you this information very quickly!

Any GingerBread rom like CM7.
Atrix 4G, CM7 based TopSmarts 1.3 rom, Faux123 1ghz kernel.
If I m helpful dont hesitate to thank me.

OK, I guess it's back to GB for now. Any idea why the camera is such a problem on ICS/JB?
Is it not possible to use the GB camera?

Consider that ICS/JB and GB are different OS's like windows xp and 7, they have different drivers so as long as these aren't transfered there will be no camera support.
There was an ICS leak which has camera support but is not really for daily use as this is still really buggy (screen issues, battery life terrible, ...)
Dev's are working very hard atm so you can check again in a while but read before you ask as this has been dealt with extensively...

I use MokeeOS is best for me now, but cm 10 somebodys is good, only problem is stack at 456mhz od cpu bug.

[Q] wanted...custom rom + info

I'm still really new to custom ROMs etc and so far all i have done is rooted and cleaned certain apps off my phone then added sd tools etc 2speed up the processes etc. I have been looking into using a custom rom the past few days.
I am hoping to find a fully working ROM especially as I use my camera quite alot for work (tattooist) but also with good speeds etc (basically the best possible lol)
Can anyone suggest a good ROM to use that is fully working? i only want to experiment for now so will try any suggestions for the fully working ROMS.
Also if anyone could also tell me (in simple terms) how to install them would be much appreciated
It's a personal choice. All custom 2.2+ ROMs don't have the SE stock camera, so you may lose some functions like zoom. Wolfbreak's 2.2 CM6 V007 is my favorite. Look around in the development section.
Also, have you enabled JIT (optimized) on your rooted 2.1? That will give you major improvements in speed and smoothness, and you can keep the SE stock camera.
On 2.2-2.3 custom Rom you might experience video lag with the camcorder.
It may not work properly once you need it spontaneously.
For example like you want to video your tattooing work.
I am using Wolfbreak's v007.1 with custom kernel.
I needed to camcorder today but the video lag was horrible and ruined the video I wanted to capture.
It really depends on what kind of function you need.
There is simply NO full (100%) functional 2.2+ custom ROM for X10.
Stay with stock one. Try JIT and wait until official 2.3.3 is ready (probably in august)
there are very functional roms, I'm on miui. 2.2 with zkernel and everything works and FPS is removed so you'LLC definately experience a giant leap toward in smoothness. Plus the miui. Camera isn't bad at all, it takes 8mp photos full screen. Or you can go with Wolf's Rom, these are the best, most stable roms IMO
OP said "fully working" ROM twice. Also said "I use my camera quite alot for work."
As agentJBM suggested, none of those custom ROMs has a "fully working" SE stock camera. Therefore SE stock eclairs (or custom eclair ROMs perhaps) are the best bet. The speed improvement of custom ROMs exists but not as huge as some people want to believe.

[Q] please share your 4.x Daily Driver ROM

Looking to Flash a ROM for the first time on my Atrix. I want a ROM based off of either ICS or JellyBean (ie, 4.x).
I don't want to test out unstable ROMs. I only have one smartphone, so it needs to be reliable. Are there any 4.x ROMs that are stable enough for daily use? If there isn't, please tell me that.
Requirements:
Reboots no more than 1, maybe 2 times a day
4.x build
all hardware works, except for these things which I don't care about: fingerprint reader, laptop dock
Nice to have: in-car mode.
AtrICS looks nice, (video works, fingerprint reader works) - but lots of posters are saying it reboots on them.
They all have the same problem since they use the same kernel.
- They all have the reboot problems
- Camera has fuzzy lines on the Blur based ROMs (can be easily fixed by turning widescreen mode on/off)
I'm currently on Someone's CM10 and I think that it can be a great daily driver (I don't use my Atrix to call/ SMS anymore though, so I can't really tell) and it doesn't have fingerprint scanner and web top (both of which you don't care).
And as I typed this, my phone rebooted.
Sent from that Atrix.
Even I'm in the same boat. Been on CM7 since ages.. waiting for a stable release before jumping the wagon.
Hopefully, epinter or jokersaxx will adopt the new libs and new stuff to their mods and we will get a new ICS/JB daily driver.
Im using miui 2.10.12 by thebill currently and no reboots. I dont play games dont use lapdock or fingerprint. Only bad thing for me not working buttons backlight

Your choices are the unstable ones with poor battery life based on the leak with everything working or the ones not based on the leak which are stable with good battery but no camcorder and flakey hw acceleration. Pick your poison.
Hopefully the project to port the Xoom kernel goes somewhere and we have something more solid, but until then if you want something flawless you should stick with gingerbread.
Since your new to custom ROMs, I highly recommend you check out mrom. Its based on cm7/Gingerbread, and the best non-4.x ROM for the atrix. Coming from stock I think you'll find it a noticeable improvement in terms of performance.
Sent from my #motofail. No ICS for 2011 AT&T flagship? #boycottmoto
This is good info guys, thanks, MROM looks really interesting. I guess I'll unlock my bootloader now,
Just started this game too. I need a daily driver for my only phone to use for business and personal. I don't use fingerprint or laptop (except as a charging base/alarm clock stand). Although I would love to be able to use the laptop again someday. This my opinion based on limited experience with the following ROMs. This is in no way a knock on any of the fantastic work the Dev's have put in any ROMs, merely my experience.
IMHO
Somebody's- great JB ROM but too many random reboots and to short a battery life for a daily driver on my only phone, chrome works because hardware acceleration works. ROM didn't work for me but I really wanted it to because it was sweet!
Cyanogen 7 Stable- Rock solid, great battery life, dependable but not much different than stock except for the ability to play with root access, firewalls etc. I know iti's not 4.x... but as a daily driver it's fantastic work
Epinters - Wow! JB, video chat, battery life in the 8-9 hours with daily use for email, phone, music, text, light internet and gmaps (result may vary), no random reboots... no chrome due to lack of hardware acceleration (i think, but may be wrong here). Overall his was the best for my circumstances. Of course mileage may very depending on your phone, mine is USA, ATT with apparently the right tegra part. I have been running it for 2-3 weeks and keep coming back to it for a daily driver.
AtrICS - too many random reboots but another great JB ROM, really wanted this one to work too
My opinion - Epinter's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781970 works for me. I am very happy I unlocked/rooted and started playing this game.

[Q] The fastest STABLE rom availibile for this phone?

Thinking about getting this phone as I'm on a low budget and I'm looking for atleast a midrange android phone to buy at the moment....
One thing I really need is developer support for a phone, and I was wondering if there's a ROM for this phone that can suit my needs if I purchase it...
I'm basically looking for a stable rom that's mostly bugfree and without annoyances such as FC's, reboots and so on...I'm also looking for a JB CM10 base...but I don't think I'll be able to find a stable Jelly Bean ROM at the moment so I guess any android version will do!
What I absolutley need:
-SPEED and RAM optimization for multitasking, gaming, and music
-Camera for photos
-3G, wifi and bluetooth
-Mostly bug-free
-HDMI mirroring
Things I can live without
-Excessive Customization
-Camcorder (though it would be nice to have)
-Webtop
Please help me find a ROM like this! Thanks!
Nutrino (CM7) or MROM (CM7)
Edit: Nutrino EE (CM7) is the most stable Nutrino rom, GT gives you more speed and don't worry about GT+
Top Smarts 1.3

Those roms have 100% camcorder? 1080p?
I want the same things that ReDDs3D, i dont have webtop but i like to view my movies on my LED.
Also this is my only camera xD
Where are the links to those roms? i havent found them
Thanks for all guys, i want to learn fast to help anothers :3
PD: Sorry for my bad english, i need more practice
Nice thread!!!
I went with MROM and am very well satisfied. Incredibly simple install.
Don't forget (as I did) to go to settings / mrom settings / applications and uncheck use internal sd card if you want to use your external card.
I know it's a bit dated, but for CM7, I love Dorian's RedPill ROM. It flies and has some great mods incorporated within. Good luck and happy flashing!

Yes, they have 100% camcorder with 1080p and flawless HDMI mirroring. If you want the best that's out there for the Atrix, CM7 based roms are your only choice. CM9/10 are too incomplete at the moment (no camcorder, flakey HWA and HDMI mirroring), and blur is kinda buggy and slow. I second MRom, it seems to be the best CM7 one out there.
You can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836674

[Q] Just Got An Atrix - What Is the Best Vanilla CM9 ROM?

So, I'm not an Android N00B or even a CyanogenMOD N00B -- I'm just a Motorola N00B. I've been hacking CM9 on HTC and Samsung phones for years so I don't need any "how-to" help.
I've gone through the forum here and I can't make heads or tails about what the general consensus is about different ROM's.
I don't need (or even want, really) Jelly Bean so I'm looking for a pretty vanilla (but solid) CM9 ROM.
Also, are there any issues with different radios and call quality? I ran into that a lot on the T989 (TMobile Galaxy S2) and I'd like to avoid it if I can.

Performance, working features and stability have come along way since cm9. I'd be looking at epinter's cm10 or cm10.1. But there are camera / video camera issues with all including cm9. If you want cm and with all things working then it would be cm7. Once we have a new kernel the cm9/10/10.1 roms will finally be fully optimized.

ICS ROMs based running on the leaked kernel are pretty good too, and include all the features except fingerprint reader and Lapdock support, the cons may be the battery life (Sometimes problematic AFAIK) and stability (Only for a little handful of users).
There is a CM10 ROM based on the leaked kernel but it's no longer under development, I think you'll prefer using ICSrom in that case.

Is there one that you suggest?

Suggested ROM

Friend wants to update her phone to ICS or jelly bean. I am looking for suggestions to the LIGHTEST and FASTEST rom with the fewest if any bugs that anyone knows of. Theres a decent list here from what i see so any suggestions would be great. I am not looking for ANYTHING fancy or colorful or features. Features are great but as long as it dosnt hinder the speed.
Thanks for your time.
AtrICS v 2.0 by Team Hope is pretty decent. Not much experience with JB except epinter's cm 10.1, so i can't give any advice there either. I'd just download each of the ICS and JB roms and try them out and find out which one works better for you.

Thanks, bad part is its not my phone, i just know how to root / install these roms so i just want one that has the basic required upgrades. Ill try the ones you suggest. Thanks. If anyone else has something to say about a particular rom it would be greatly apreciated. Reliability and speed are number 1
In that case, stay with an ICS rom. Most are pretty stable, but will be more stable after kernel development is complete.

There should be a webtop with that rom. I don't quite remember, i was on that rom for a short time before going back to gb.
All other problems should be fixed with 2.6.39.4 kernel development (see atrix dev section, ics/jb kernel thread for dev status updates) and implementation in the boot img. Be patient, they're working on it

Your sugested ROM work the webtop with lapdock? and all teh other features work welll??
I am want use a stable ROM ICS( Ice Cream Sandwich) with fully work Webtop.
thanks
I tried Epinter CM10 and it is a great rom. Smotth, reliable and responsive.
BUT !!!! There is a "but". There is a lot of functions that do not work anymore due to a lack of tegra drivers for ICS / JB... :
- no video recording (except in a very bad resolution 640x480)
- no hardware acceleration so you cannot play your video on your mobile stored in mp4 (native cam format), mkv....
- games will have a strange behaviour (lag, screen scrambled...)
For this reasons, I comeback to Gingerbread ROM and I have a full useable phone !
Make your choice, but You will are not able to get all
If you can get away from the idea of wanting just a JB or ICS rom, I'd suggest Neutrino Rom. Its GB and really stable.
Any rom u install which is not GB is not stable
U can go with Epinter cm10 much stable but u cannot video record using the phone the battery is also good.
On other hand u want everything working u better want to stay with MRom

Standard versions of CM, MIUI, CNA, etc
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
Battery life is decent
Disadavantages:
No HWA, which means video recording doesn't work correctly, games with heavy graphic demands won't run decently (you can forget about running GTA III, for instance), Spotify won't show album thumbnails, and there will be some screen lag.
No fingerprint reader
Currently available HWA-accelerated versions of CM (such as AtrICS and any ROM running "That Kernel" or "Those Libs")
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
HWA is available, which means everything runs silky-smooth and beautifully
Disadvantages:
M I S E R A B L E battery life (as in fully charged to completely discharged in about six hours, even if you're not using it)
Video camera still has problems
Still no fingerprint reader
A Tweaked Gingerbread ROM (such as MROM, Neutrino, etc.)
Advantages:
EVERYTHING WORKS! INCLUDING THE FINGERPRINT READER! w00t!
Full HWA
Excellent battery life
The Holo Launcher makes everything look very ICS-ish
Disadvantages:
You're still running Gingerbread
Some apps (such as SoA and XDA Premium) won't work, because they're ICS or JB-only
RaiderDuck, you forgot the lapdock, other than that, your comment should be a "sticky", not that everyone reads them, but it would cut down on the GB vs ICS/JB questions that have been answered over and over.
