[Q] Home button softer then other units - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
My unit has 1 year and a half and when i can i compare pressasure of my home button with others of same S2 units; i conclude my one needs less preassure to activate but works ok; the feeling is not quiet ok...
Anyone experienced this situation? Do you think it is better to take it to Samsung services?
Still on Guarantee but rooted and CWM...
Thanks to everyone!
Fernando

If it does stop it from working considerably then you could take it in but personally I would see the need to be without my phone for two weeks for only that reason!

My wife s2 does that, it's brand new. Compared to mine, my button is better. When I bought this I know that Samsung quality is not that good.

Hello to everyone,
Well with your posts i can conclude that it's natural, or every home button are equal, no big deal bur we must change ideas better before garantuee finishes...
Thanks!

[Q] Thinking of getting a white SGS2...

Hi guys,
I'm a current iphone 4 owner who's thinking of getting the SGS2. I've heard a lot of good things about the phone and would like to try Android and love the big screen on this phone. I've been reading a bit more and it seems like there are issues with the wifi signal being quite poor on the phone. Is this still the case or has Samsung fixed this?
I'm hoping most of you don't have the issue or maybe there's a workaround for this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
The WiFi is excellent. If the wifi is poor in comparison to another phone then there is a hardware fault with the phone.
I got one off ebay and wifi was awful, had to return it and seller has since returned it to Samsung.
I got a 2nd one off ebay and wifi is perfect, better than Galaxy S.
For a detailed review, check out anadtech.com for the Galaxy S2 review and wifi performance.
lost my iphone 3gs few days ago and just bought a black sgs2 i'm very happy with it love the big screen
Totally get the white one. Bought a black one but sold that for the white. Best phone i ever owned.

Thanks guys! So it seems those who were complaining might have had a faulty unit after all... I think I will go ahead and order it in the next few days
order the black one!
i prefer the black one but white phones are always better for fingerprints and smudging
You´ll be happy with either of them. And there iss no problem with the wifi.

There is absolutely no wifi problem. I had the black one and now the white one and wifi on both are excellent.

Hmm, in my honest and humble opinion. I DO feel that the wifi signal on this phone is weaker than my other phones... just a fact. Even compared it to my friends iphone 4s at school. Im sitting there beside him trying to browse (so slow), i barely get a signal while my friend is just going at it on his iphone 4s with full signal on wifi. Again i know the wifi bars dont mean much as each phone callibrates/displays signal strength differently but my sgs ii can barely browse in some parts of the school while my friends 4s/ my other phones work fine.
Just my 10 cents.
If you are having wifi issues thrn compare with another sgs2.
It sounds like you have a faulty one.

Galaxy S3 VS Note handling & unlocking

Hello,
Is there anyone who had/still have a Galaxy Note & bought the SIII? I'd like to know how it feels when used by one hand. Can you touch the status bar without having to move your hand (only finger)?
Same question for typing. This was not possible for me on the Note, and i have average sized hands. Last question, and sorry if it was said already, is there an easy unlocking app coming or there won't be?
Thanks!
The note is a tad too wide, I love the stylus features of it. But being uncomfy in my hand i chose for the s3 being very comfy and easy to hold unlock and cal.
Well review were saying you still have to move your hand a lot to use it with one hand...

Anyone else?

I had the note for a couple of months and fumbled around with it constantly but got pretty good with it. The .gs3 is easy to use with one hand and reach the bar up top with no repositioning. I am pretty sure that the width helps quite a bit with that.

i can't check in with 4sq using only my left hand w/o repositioning...

I recently just switched from the GT- N7000 to this phone. I loved the big screen. But this is a lot more manageable size wise for me. Stupid fast. I'm not regretting the switch at all.
I can swype again. Swype two handed was kind of pointless. Was too awkward one handed on the Note. Everything is reachable one handed without stretching my reach so to speak.
Mine came unlocked so I can't answer that part for you.

This one has perfect size. Yes to hr first to questions. The nite was fun the first few weeks then u realize it was too vig for a phone.

Galaxy s3 home button issue?

Hello,
I got my galaxy s3 for a little over 5 months now. About 3 months ago this started to happen:
/watch?v=yck3t4-tDDA (youtube vid, can't post links yet)
This clicking noise and the loose home button (end of vid) is bothering me quite a bit. I was thinking
to go to the store and ask what they think about it, however i'm aware that if i can get the phone replaced
the new one may even be worse ( screen problems, overheating, short battery life, etc). So i thought i'll ask
it here first , what do you guys think and do some of you have the same problem?
Thx in advance!:good:

Hmmm, maybe then its just normal ...Anyway then I just have to hope the home button won't fall out my phone
It isn't normal, mine doesn't have that issue. (6 months)
Go back to the store. And look if you can get a new one. I think they will send it to a samsung repair center.

I want to go back but the problem is that the button is working fine and gives me a satisfy click. As well my s3 is awesome in every other way: very long battery life, phone is not getting hot, etc. I think i will contact the customer service first. I will let you guys know.
i think it is normal, my brand new white also clicks when you hit it like than, and also it is a bit loose when sliding up and down. but it works perfectly and i wouldnt even notice this if i didnt watched your video

Camera WONT focus..

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issues? My phone is brand new and has never been dropped. It's like the camera will NEVER focus for taking pictures. It makes the sound like it's focusing but still stays blurry no matter zoomed or not.
Any ideas or suggestions?

That didn't fix anything for me. I finally e-mailed HTC and this was their response which also did not fix anything.
Safe Mode
1. Please turn off the phone.
2. Then briefly press the Power button to turn on the phone.
3. While the phone powers on, press and hold the Volume down button until phone loads the OS and "Safe Mode" should appear on the lower left part of the screen.
After you put it in safe mode, try using your phone, if it works perfectly, then the problem may be caused by an application your phone. Which you will need to remove the applications one by one to see which one is causing the issue. If the issue persists, please reply to this email so we can further troubleshoot and have this issue solved.
All I know is I'm about ready to sell/return this HTC One and go get the Galaxy S4. My S3 treated me fine and the camera was far superior.
Was told it's a software issue and the update isn't expected for at least a month. So until then I have a $600 phone with a useless camera. Returning this and going to the S4. Not sure why I doubted it when I loved my S3. Figured I would give HTC a try again from my Sensation 4G days but what a waste of time. I can say the build quality of the phone along with the screen were definitely the things that attracted me.
What about an exchange, since you just got it? Did you get it in store? If so .. you could test out the one they exchange it for while at the store. Mine works awesome, and many others are very happy with theirs. So it sounds like you got a lemon camera. And we all know there are some bad ones in all the phone models.

True. I actually returned it and went with the S4. I'll give HTC another shot once their next big phone comes out. I did find myself missing a bigger screen also. It may be lacking a few PPI compared to the One but it's just as nice. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I see that you already returned the One. But I do not see how it could have been a software issue. If you were stock, you should have had build 1.27.531!8. I have that build and my focus works fine. Sounds like you should have exchanged it because it was clearly defective. Too late now, though.

In my phone this strongly correlates with heat. Once the phone gets hot from being at high brightness or doing something graphically intensive it will not focus. Sometimes you can get it to work by giving it a sharp slap or pressing gently on the glass in front of the camera. If you let it cool down for a few minutes then it works. But it is definitely a physical problem.
I'm having the same issues. My first HTC One was fine but had a power issue so it was replaced with this one that will now not focus. I contacted HTC and T-Mobile and was told that there would be a software update in the future to fix the issue but there are no specified dates. I asked T-Mobile if they could exchange it since it's only 2 months old and was told I would have to wait on an upgrade or purchase at full price. I'm really not pleased about any of this.

Drawbacks should I encounter after buying S3

Hello,
I want to buy a second-hand pebble blue S3 for 220euros. Apparently it is in good conditions, it works perfectly, everything is in order. I wanted Note2 but there is no longer in stock (~350euros 2hand). I want to know couple things about this S3. My brothers have S1 and S2 and no serious problems so far (owned for more than 2 years)
1. Is it a durable device?
2. What problems could I encounter?
3. Is there any way to check the history of the phone? (e.g. how many hours have been spoken)
4. I am not going to root/mod it in any way, which genuine software version seems to be the best?
5. Is there any differences between white and pebble blue version?
6. Compared to Note2, is it a major difference? (apart from the screen size)
7. What about the price? Does it seem right?
I would appreciate if anybody would sincerely answer my questions.
P.S: I do not want HTC/LG alternatives as I do not trust them. (already had experiences with their products and they're rubbish).

As far i know..
1. It's up to you... do not try harmful things (installing wrong roms/mods) and it will be solid as a rock.
1a. If you install the correct mods/roms (which one is ok for your phone) it will fly!
4. the latest Official (4.1.2 At the moment; watch out for EMG4 new EFS Data format) firmware
5. Colour? :cyclops:

Read the threads here about Sudden Death and Freezing. I had fits with the freezing issue. While mine is working fine now (after a LOT of pain), I would not recommend it due to this.
I'm about to sell the phone, honestly I would recommend you go and get the Note II if you are on a budget, this isn't the best phone ever, it could have been the best phone of 2012 if it had 2GB of ram, 1GB just isn't enough anymore.
I dont see any reason not to get this phone, if you get it that cheap in a good condition. 2gb are not really necessary. The only downside it has is the UI touchwiz which is kind of slow and overloaded, but this is still an issue on the note 2/3 and s4. But to be honest, other custom UIs from htc and so on are not really better.
The sudden death syndrome also shouldnt affect you, as long as the phone was updated to 4.1.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I found a cheaper one, at ~210 euros, white, 16gb. I know that 1GB RAM might not be enough, this is why I wanted Note2 (i like the bigger screen too). Unfortunately, I am worried about the durability of the Note2 because theoretically it does not come with Gorilla Glass. I work in kind of severe conditions, I'm a mechanic (ofc the phone will sit in a comfy hard leather). Also, is more than 100 euros more expensive and I'm a bit tight with money. Regarding the S3, I've read about the update that fixed the sudden death syndrome, but I've also heard that the phone might stop working after 150-200 days (at least some people said so). Should I be afraid of this or not?
Update: the cheapest Note2 I've found is at ~330 euros. The extra 120 euros are not justified. My brother has S2 (same 1GB RAM) and it does just fine, not to mention that even the S1 handles pretty well with 512MB .
In conclusion, I am going to buy a 2nd-hand S3 i9300 (used ~ a year or less). It looks and works normal, as it should. Considering the fact that I am paying over 200 euros for it, I really want to be sure that I am making a good decision. So far, S1 and S2 did an amazing job, so I am expecting the same from the S3. If are there any problems/reasons not to buy it, please enlighten me up. (apart from SDS if it isn't already fixed or it won't get fixed after software update)
I just want to say, like you, I went with the exact same reasoning about the 1gb on the s3. I upgraded from the s1 and also thought Samsung did a good job with the s1 and s2, etc. Well, not so. Thing is, they bloated the phone so bad that 1gb is really REALLY short. All i'm saying is that way of thinking is wrong and I thought you'd want this clarified.
That said, 1gb is not the end of the world (just the end of multitasking lol) and for the price you're paying I do believe it's totally worth it. Phone is still a beast on most cases and you probably won't be disappointed.
About the sds, had one s3 failing 1 weak after buying. Ics was the firmware of the moment and therefore not safe. Was replaced by a new one and never had another issue. If you can use the phone for 1 day before buying you can check for random freezing and rebooting. Those are really clear signs of imminent failure. To be honest, I've not heard of anyone's phone falling on a 150, 200 days timeframe. People do complaint about a bit of lag from time to time and and like to think thats the 'fix' working.

Thank you for the 'gold' info. about 1GB RAM not being enough for S3. Obviously, I/we tend to mix things up and compare an unknown thing with a related known one. But at the end of the day I have no other choice, I just can't see any better option at this value. Moreover, I had couple occasions to play with it a bit and I find it really fast, responsive (while surfing on the internet for instance). Anyway, I am not going to push it to extremes. Mostly surfing the internet, talking, messages, FB, maybe music, couple games (just in case I get too bored when I am waiting or sth ). After all, every phone freezes from time to time, it isn't something specific to S3.
Thank you for the precious info, mate. :good:

Those phones dont fit his current budget. Also, htc is definitely not fast at updating their devices. It only seems to look like this, since they recently updated their flagship, but thats it.
@op, you are definitely not doing anything wrong with the s3. Guess why it was and is still very popular

The only thing that holds me from buying HTCs is the fact that the battery is not removable. I always had a spare battery with me wherever I went (in the car/jacket/blazer). Same rule will apply for the S3.
