Galaxy s3 home button issue? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I got my galaxy s3 for a little over 5 months now. About 3 months ago this started to happen:

This clicking noise and the loose home button (end of vid) is bothering me quite a bit. I was thinking
to go to the store and ask what they think about it, however i'm aware that if i can get the phone replaced
the new one may even be worse ( screen problems, overheating, short battery life, etc). So i thought i'll ask
it here first , what do you guys think and do some of you have the same problem?

I also think that the home button becomes loose
Plus the power button becomes loose,too

Hmmm, maybe then its just normal ...Anyway then I just have to hope the home button won't fall out my phone

It isn't normal, mine doesn't have that issue. (6 months)

Go back to the store. And look if you can get a new one. I think they will send it to a samsung repair center.

I want to go back but the problem is that the button is working fine and gives me a satisfy click. As well my s3 is awesome in every other way: very long battery life, phone is not getting hot, etc. I think i will contact the customer service first. I will let you guys know.

i think it is normal, my brand new white also clicks when you hit it like than, and also it is a bit loose when sliding up and down. but it works perfectly and i wouldnt even notice this if i didnt watched your video

Help! My touch pro's keyboard wont work!

Hey guys, I just got my touch pro last week and now the keyboard wont work. No drops or water damage. It wont light up or anything. I dont want to have to go back to the sprint store, so if u guys have any suggestions that would be awesome. Thanks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had the same thing happen to me. I spent probably a combined total of 8 hours on the phone with different people before I got any kind of solution. I couldn't find anything online. I was out of the initial Sprint Warranty. So Sprint said, sorry, you're gonna have to pay for a whole new device. That wouldn't work, the device was just 3 months old. So I called HTC, and at first they said there was nothing they could do either, until I talked to one person who forwarded me to PCD. They were able to fix it, for free under warranty, they replaced some RFID tag (IDK what that meant, it was in this checklist of tests they sent back) and sent the phone back. All I had to pay was shipping to their Repairs center. The bad thing was, it took them 3 weeks to work on it (only 4 days were shipping there and back). I hope I have been helpful, and I am sorry about the bad news. I know the feeling.
Hey, i had the same problem but i went to sprint and change my device, the new one works perfect, my advice go back and change it.

i had the same problem i went to sprint and change my device, the new one works perfect, so my advice go back to the store and replace it for a new one, take care......

Had one that same thing happened. Performed hard reset and corrected it maybe temp fix though but it worked so far about a week of good use so far.
I had the same thing on my Verizon Pro, what I found was (I took mine apart) was that the cable had came loose from it's connector, I just had to reseat it and works perfect. By the way I bought it that way (got a great deal because it didn't work).

I have the same keyboard problem...it doesn't work most of the time, but once in a blue moon it will....the keyboard lights come on, but no input from keys work....so is that still a connector issue you think? Did you keyboard backlight come on?
2nd question: How do I open my TP?

I am not sure if my keys lite up or not, it has been a while, but it sounds to me like a possible connection issue with it being intermittent.
happened to me twice hopefully tp2 fixes this little issue.
same problem!!! just go to sprint, they can fix the problem... "they changed my keyboard"!!!
yah me too, i took my touch pro back to Sprint and they changed the whole touch screen part of the phone for me in 45 mins and for some reason that fixed the keyboard as well, so i guess the problem is in the touch-screen part of the phone, not the keyboard itself
Try this. Take out the battery and pinch extremely hard on the space button to re-seat the keyboard cable.
I'm not completely sure if it will work as I got my phone replaced before I found this fix.
Try it and let me know if it helped any.

Genius! However, i am not. Your solution worked, however i fear it may be a temporary solution? I want to get this fixed while under warranty and dumb ol' me fixing it, well, now i won't have anything to show the sprint store

this worked for me! thanks!!! I was getting ready to open up the phone or go to the sprint store. You the man.

the represenstative told me that putting on 3rd party software can help the keyboard going out

go to your phone carrier.
demand a NIB replacement. (new in box)
it states in the manufacturing warranty that you get a NIB replacement for the keyboard. it's a known problem, tell them to call the tech department or htc tech support and they will tell the rep the same thing.
Don't leave without a NEW replacement.
Don't take a refurb(mailed out) replacement.

I call BS on that one. lol.
I did it... removed bat', piched key b'. it now works... eeeeeeeeyesss
Got a 0 hour touch pro less than 2months, keyboard started lagging since 2 weeks ago, then extra spaces and duplicate letters and finally died after a charging session in a hot weather day.
Removed battery and press spacebar top and bottom very hard to resit the keyboard connector fixed the issue.
Same happened to me on my Alltel CDMA Touch Pro after having owned it for about 4 weeks. It would also not shut off the screen backlight. Was very odd. Luckily, my Alltel store is literally across the alley from my house, so I ran a full backup using Sprite Backup, walked over there, and they swapped it out for a new phone within 10 minutes. Took me another 45 minutes to restore the backup, but wasn't nearly as bad as sending it away for several weeks to be repaired.

Vertical lines when waking the device just a short deepsleep state

Unlocking the device about 3-4 seconds after its been locked display a few vertical lines ( random places ) from top to bottom, this happens maybe about 50-60% of the time, but does not happen if the phone is locked for more than 25 seconds or so.. Is this something that should be worth any concern? I never noticed this with my 2 previous units.. The vertical lines are not that bright so someone testing for this might look for a spot with minimal light reflections.
Guess it's time to call in for the 4th unit. Reading your posts from other threads i thought you exchanged at least a dozen. On a more serious note, i can't see this problem on my device.

4Th one wasnt a success, the last 4 phones they had on stock had various other defects. I've went over a dozen phones before I got my 3rd one only to find out that it also has some defects.

Unfortunately, even though everybody wants a perfect phone, we have to agree it doesn't exist. There's no perfect SII till now, so i think you're on a quest to find the Holy Grail.

I cant recall looking for a perfect phone but I can recall looking for a non defective screen or at least with in the normal specification. Thanks for your concern
I suscribe to EarlZ`s problem, just bought the phone today, the problem appeared after i hit the update button and the update was finished, makes me think that it is a software problem, I hope. If not, going to get a new one

It happens to me on the following ROM's / Kernel XXKF1/XXKF2/XXKG2/XXKG6/XXKH3, But if the phone's been locked over 30 seconds or so I believe the vertical lines never appear.. the only way to describe this is like the screen is powering on rapidly or something, a friends Galaxy Ace also has the same effect.. I wonder what this entails, hopefully nothing harmful.

Hardware design fault in all galaxy aces

I started a thread about the digitizer problem in Janauary about things suddenly scrolls rapidly, especially when browsing webpages.
Then on the Jan 15th, I took it to warranty, but without being able to demonstrate the problem clearly, all they done was reflashing the firmware.
I've already tried to fix the bug in the driver, but it is damn hard to filter the "noisy" touches without side effects. (like ignoring movements that are too quick, then i can't type in swype quickly)
I should have known *#0*# earlier, as I'm now able to reproduce the problem right in front of them.
On March 15, I took it to them again. Today, got my phone back with replaced touch screen. Then, tested it in front of their CS and reproduced the bug as shown in the attachment again.
I suggest anyone who owns an ace, please go into *#0*# to test your phone. Keep circling around the lower-left box for at least 10 minutes. Reply to this thread if you're able or not able to reproduce this. I may print this thread to Samsung on my next visit to them.
I've also uploaded a video to youtube to show this. (it's around 1:51 for the bug to appear)
We need to get Samsung to fix this!!

*#0*# doesn't work for me, probably because I am rooted and have a custom rom. (ICSunday by Jusada).
That probably means I lost my warranty

I have the scrolling problem and when you are viewing really long pages and the screen suddenly starts scrolling rapidly

Yes, it's Samsung's own test menu in stock roms. But it should be reproducible in whatever drawing app.
Thought i ONLY had this PROBLEM!!
Its not only in STOCK browser also in DOLPHIN, OPERA.. And others. The page suddenly moves to the end with a slight touch!! Wat does the SAMSUNG ppl say about this??

They said they will be replacing my phone's motherboard, as they have already replaced my touch screen.
I wonder if it's fixed in S5830"I", otherwise even exchanging with a brand new ace won't solve it. I would try to ask them to exchange with an ace plus, or maybe I had to escalate a brand new ace first, and take it to "repair"
Well, since its a hardware problem, I don't think they can fix it with an update. I've experienced it my self countless times as well.
I noticed this when playing Air Control...
Also the rapid scrolling in Dolphin Browser is familiar to me!

Well I faced that problem too while using DiskUsage App. Just a slight touch and it moved to right end corner.
i have the same problem.
I've had this happen to me as well, can be quite annoying.
I'm not sure there's anything we can do about it unfortunately, but it doesn't affect the phone all the time. If it did, I'd be asking for a refund
Although, those Galaxy Ace Plus' do look nice...

Hi all. I want to talk with all of you who had or have problems with SXS.
1. YELLOW TINT
First of all, a way famous problem is yellow tint (which i sadly got it).
Does someone has some tricks, advice, any thing.
2. DELAYED TEXT AND CALLS DURING IDLE
Second my phone got weird problem (while sleep) might be kernel related.
To get the point, my phone went sleep for a while, if you try to call me you will get message that my phone is turned off (but is not, just in sleep), when i make a call to someone, then my phone freaks out and recive every call and message that i receive during IDLE TIME.
Few more people have this problem on diffrent operators, difrent country.

3. PHONE GETTING FREEZE - TOUCH UNRESPONSIVE
One more problem which i got, when i play some games (angry birds, tower and trolls, defender 2) my phone heat up a little and then touch screen get unresponsive while game graphics continue to work (3 buttons below screen dosnt responsive to) so only way to get phone back is restart.
4. BUZZING NOISE DURING CALLS ON WIFI/3G
I have also problems with this noise during calls (in earspeaker)

got no.3 when in .73 fw. now in .76 it's not anymore..
for no.2 i think it's related in kernel (and cpu)
for no.1 it's just pure luck, but warranty should cover it.
for no.4, dunno for sure.
btw, i have none of those issues (at least for now)
for me just the BUZZING sound , but it is only in GSM mode,at 3G is ok/clear

@OP.. u might wanna add an option like "no problems with SXS" to ur poll (as the percentage doesn't make sense without it imo).

Got number 3 (but rarely) also sometimes the phone freeze then reboots.
Got none of the problems.
Screen was kinda yellowish but all hints of yellow disappeared after a month or so.

Unresponsive Lockscreen......and problem when answering calls,(issue with the slider) on .76 firmware.
I don't have my warranty of the phone and have the yellow tint issue so i am basically SCREWED......
now if i need to get it repaired i've to pay
edit- screen is always yellow not only when it is above 40 degrees.....
my screen sometimes get yellow...most of the time...but sometimes is not
No problems at all here. And still got my warranty so still no problem. I'm just one big happy XS owner here.
Hope ICS will fix some of the problems people have, and not add more to the list.

Hello, i would like to know if someone else have this problem and maybe if they can tell me how to solve it. I have put a picture on a phone contact and for a few calls everything is alright, the picture is show in full screen. But after a whille the picture is become smaller and i don't know for what reason. Thanks...
My first unit had yellow display tint but i got that exchanged and other than the yellow tint i have'nt had any problems. As this is my first smartphone i was initally unhappy with the battery capacity but with every update (*.62 - *.67 - *.73 - *.75) it's gotten beter and better and now i'm well satisfied.

Only a bit house in calls with 2g in .73 now I'm on 75 haven't tried it yet, and sometimes it freezes but most of the time when is charging apart from taut all ok

[Q] Home button softer then other units

Hello everyone,
My unit has 1 year and a half and when i can i compare pressasure of my home button with others of same S2 units; i conclude my one needs less preassure to activate but works ok; the feeling is not quiet ok...
Anyone experienced this situation? Do you think it is better to take it to Samsung services?
Still on Guarantee but rooted and CWM...

If it does stop it from working considerably then you could take it in but personally I would see the need to be without my phone for two weeks for only that reason!

My wife s2 does that, it's brand new. Compared to mine, my button is better. When I bought this I know that Samsung quality is not that good.
